I recently purchased a Baofeng UV-B5 because of it's improved receiver however when I try to program with Chirp it does not recognize the radio. Chirp works perfectly with my UV-5RA and I am wondering if Chirp will support the UV-B5 in the future or am I doing something wrong. Jon

[chirp_users] XP Runtime error

I am trying to run Chirp on an ASUS Eee PC with Windows XP. The OS is a stripped down version to fit the limited storage on the PC. I get the error message "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." Can anyone suggest the cause please? Thanks Howard

[chirp_users] Baofeng UV-5R+Upload Error

Model: Baofeng UV-5R+ Firmware: BFB297 Driver: Prolilfic 3.2.0.0 Operating System: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Chirp: Daily Build 20121222 I just purchased the UV-5R+ and tried to connect it up to Chirp. Got through the driver installation and Chirp software install thanks to the documentation provided on MIKLOR. I am able to Download the radio parameters into Chirp fine - the "Cloning" window pops up and everything appears to show fine. However after making a frequency change to one channel and trying to Upload the changes back to the radio, I get the message: "Unsupported Firmware Version BFB301 BFB297". This happens right after the "Cloning" window pops up. Since there are so many variables to analyze for potential problems, I downloaded the Baofeng VIP software version: V120725 and tried the same scenario - everything seems to work fine there - Download/Upload. Is Firmware Version BFB297 supported yet by CHIRP? Thanks, Doug

Hi I am having trouble with Chirp. I have chirp running a windows XP home desk top and it works great. I have it running on windows 7 Laptop and it works great. My son windows Vista Laptop and we are having trouble openning a file or saving it. When I have a file download from the UV5R I can enter anything that I want to. but I can not save that file. When I click "save as" it does nothing at all. If I close the program it opens a little window open and asks if I want to save, delete or cancel, I select save and nothing happens. I can also click open from the file drop down and nothing opens or happens. I think this Vista machine is the problem, what do you think Thanks Dave Barber

So your having problem saving the chirp file that you created. Question is can you save in other applications? For example can you save somthing in notepad? NO same error ? then its something with your operating system. If yes then its not the OS but its pointing towards the software. Remember its BETA.. which means it may be something that does not like your hardware or something like that. Make sure you have the current version of CHIRP. Try removing and reinstalling.. make a small file so as not to waste time adding a lot of information in. Can the software read the information in your radio ? Are the drivers installed correctly? Check your MSCONFIG file for anything that might be a problem with your system. Temporally, pause your virus program.. Try these tips one at a time to find out if any of them work. Have you tried the software that comes from the manufactor of your radio? You have to try determine if the problem is with your OS or with the program. Hope this helps.

Hi all, I am using a Baofeng UV-5R with BFB297 firmware and CHIRP daily (today's build). I have used Chirp successfully with the Wouxun KG-UVD1P, Baofeng UV-3R and Yaesu FT-857D, however, when I use the USB cable I got for my Wouxun to try and download the img from the UV-5R the radio does not communicate with the software. Chirp sends two magic numbers to the rig, but the rig doesn't reply. I have tested Chirp with the Wouxun and the UV-3R, and it works fine. Many thanks Matt M0ZAI

You might wander by the Chirp website and let them know that. They have the UV-5RC on their list for future development because ONE user has repeatedly reported that Chirp crashes on this computer ever time he tries to read the data from his UV-5RC. i am kevin, i have both a ham radio callsign n0ukm and a public safety callsign for part 90 operations. i am using a baofeng uv-5r radio that has bfb297 firmware. version of chirp that i am using is: chirp daily-20130216 what i am needing to do is this: program only a transmit tone and it does not matter if it is ctcss or dcs. the agencies i work with do not require a receive tone. only a transmit tone is needed. what do i need to do with the chirp programming software that allows me to do that. this is the first time for me programming this radio with the chirp software with both public safety simplex and repeater/ham radio simplex and repeater. can someone please help and if i need to clarify something let me know thanks -- Doc

How do I merge data from a CSV file into a file read from the radio? If I import, it just overwrites the previous read data. I want to take a file with 10 channels and import a file that has 20 channels. ending up with 30 channels Can that be done in a bulk fashion or does each channel have to be copied and pasted? It has a data connection that will allow SDR or CAT commands so maybe this radio could be added to the list of supported radios? First try using the mailing list I was wondering why finding free programming software for the Yaesu FT-90 was almost impossible? I have found and used the Chirp software for most of my handhelds radios and I love it. Well done team and a big thanks. The FT-90, modified, is a great little radio for the car but a real pain in the afterburner to program especially since it occasionally looses ALL info about once a year. When I do a Query Data Source I get frequencies from my zip code but they are all Public Service like police, fire, EMS, Schools, road departments etc.. While that's fine and dandy there is an amateur section at radioreference.com that I can import amateur frequencies using one of the Commander series softwares for Yaesu radios. Please check into this because radioreference should be exporting amateur frequencies along with public service or their should be a choice given in the query operation. Or if I'm missing something let me know what. This is one of the daily build, it's a week or so old but it works great with the Wouxun KGUV6D-Ham Only radio. I'm aware of and use the Scanning feature on the Baofeng UV-5R and was wondering if a Priority Scan can be set & if not could that feature be programmed in the Skip column of Chirp with the Skip feature or elsewhere? Thanks, Bill

All, I cannot get the Ubuntu version of Chirp to function CHIRP daily-20130209 GTK 2.24.13 PyGTK 2.24.0 Python 2.7.3 to work with an RT systems interface cable on linux. But, Under Windows XP SP3 running on the same system under Virtual Box, Chirp 0.3.0 works. Ubuntu 12.10 KDE Virtual Box 4.1.18 radio: yaesu ft-7800 or vx-7r RT System adapter cable. for the windows system the Data Terminal Ready/Request to Send lines go high (the rt system adapter is power by the diode OR of them at a positive voltage) for the transfer, On the linux version DTR/RTS stay negative. The RT systems adapter must have DRT or RTS high to be powered. I am a member of the tty and dialout groups on the linux system. Any ideas or more information? 73s jim ki6njf

CHIRP version 0.3.0 has been released. This is a major revision from the previous stable version 0.2.3 and includes a hefty number of bug fixes, features, and support for new radio models. Hi All- I've had great success using Chirp on my Mac to program my UV5r's. I'm now trying to use it with my FT-2800m Yaesu mobile. I get a sense that the cable is communicating with the radio, as I sometimes get a message saying the program couldn't get header info, while other times I get an Error message on the radio. I've seen reports of people using different key combinations when powering on to put the radio in pairing mode, which I've done. I'm a little unclear what to do at that point. Can anyone point me to a step-by-step list for programming the ft-2800m with Chirp and a Mac? I'd be forever in your debt. Thanks and 73, Jeff

1--After installing Build 20130208 on my Baofeng UV-5RA I get an error while Uploading to the radio from Chirp, that Radio did not respond. I checked for good cable connections, Com Port, all to no avail. Uploading previous Builds were no problem, this is 1st problem I've experienced. 2--Also, when a new Build is issued, an *.asc attachment is included. What is it and I'm unable to open it. What program can open it? 3--How are Bugs reported, I'm newbie to this list so please excuse me. Thanks, Bill

Hi Everyone Well my main computer is a Mac and I can't get it to Read from a Yaesu VX-8G. I have kk7ds python in there And I think my driver is correct, it is /dev/cu.PL2303-002112FD I turn on the radio wed have the F/W pressed CLONE is displayed I select the BAND button and wait and it displays ERROR Can anybody give my any hints I can do? I just returned from a business trip where cell phone access was minimal and internet access was completely non-existent (so no, I didn't fall off the edge of the world). I am in the process of uploading a new version of the Chirp LiveCD. It should be available around 0200 GMT. sourceforge.net/projects/chirplivecd/ The only change is that it contains the 4Feb2013 daily. If you are using the previous version on a USB drive or through a virtual machine and have updated using the Chirp updater, then you are already up to date with this release. Bob

Hello I am having a small issue I tries to program my UV5R with the frequencies of my job and I cannot transmit on them, all it does is receive my co-workers, but no transmit. On my repeaters it works fine. the frequencies in question are in the 161 MHZ and 162 MHZ range. I used the Baofeng Software, and did not work. So then I used the Chirp and was able to put it on the radio but again no transmit. Version on my radio is the older version. If there is any other software I can use to unlock those 2 frequencies let me know, if you have any questions for more information just email me. Thanks, Harvey.
