[chirp_users] Application Crashes in Mac

After some help from some folks on this users group I was able to get my Mac to recognized the the serial cable. However the problem I am having now is the application crashes after the upload from the radio is complete. I uploaded the latest version of Chirp(20170627) but that did not solved the problem. The Mac is running macOS Sierra version 10.12.5. Thanks for the help. John Laiosa N1BSO

I believe, "there are ways" to prevent particular drivers from updating, but not being a Windows user at home any more, I can't say how you'd do that. Blocking all updates, is *not* recommended, in this insecure day and age. Best to use a newer cable with genuine chip-set in (it doesn’t have to be Prolific) though that can be difficult to impossible to check without breaking it out of the packaging, and even then, not always easy for many... If it's any consolation (probably not) 10's of 1000's of genuine companies got caught out by the Prolific counterfeiters to their (and our) cost. The only guaranteed way to get a genuine chip-set, is to buy direct from the makers, or their official agents, but as well as the cost, you then you have to make up an adapter from RS232 to whatever connector the rig of interest uses. But, isn't that what were all supposed to be able to do? (Tin hat at the ready!) Such an adapter would be good to have anyway I think. Regards. Dave B. PS: I have personally come across, a "so called" (and marked up as) FTDI chip, but it identified itself as, and worked as a Prolific chip! The counterfeiters are using micro-controllers programmed to emulate the genuine chips, and other than a few esoteric little used functions (changing the function of I/O lines etc) they have actually done quite an impressive (I'm not saying good) job. Someone programmed that one wrongly, or forgot to set it's emulation mode. Take care. >><<

After doing a little more digging re this. http://systemfusion.yaesu.com/faq/does-yaesu-have-programming-software-for-… Seems to show that there is as yet, NO official programming software available. But also found:- http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/ftb2d.html But see the link "Withdrawn from sale" that goes to:- http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/c4fm_radios.htm Does not look promising. As it is possible to clone from one rig to another, presumably by using a "special" mini USB to mini USB cable? (i.e. non standard.)Â Bob HFD has done an amazing job getting as far as he did with the original firmware shipped with the radios. Perhaps the Chirp dev team could work with Bob G4HFD to a common end? I do also see some comments that it may be possible to edit the radio's config file, by saving it to a SD card, and putting that in a PC, but I couldn't find any details as to the structure of the files(s) used. This is another way for big companies to tie users into their expensive infrastructure, at the users expense.Â Â And, when the companies decide it's an old product and drop support, your on your own. No doubt over time someone will reverse engineer it, to our benefit, and Yaesu's shagrin, but that might "take a while." 73. Dave B.

Hello Everyone, I was curious if anyone here knows of a good source for 4-pin TRRS connectors or solder pigtails that will fit *PROPERLY* into Yaesu HTs like the FT1? Argent Data sells one but it looks like it might be too wide at the tip: https://www.argentdata.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=68 At $6/ea, is not exactly cheap and it only offers three out of the four wires. I'm also curious if the threaded-style TRRS connectors will work ok for non-threaded radios. I would assume so but thought I'd ask. There are connectors like these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/172931701263?catId=12576&item=172931701263&rmv… but I've always found these contact solder-type connectors very difficult to get a good, lasting solder contact to. There are also some pre-made cables that look "promising" but I have no idea if they would actually fit deeply enough (they seem fairly narrow at the tip) but are all four wires connected? --David KI6ZHD

[chirp_users] CHIRP DOWNLOAD problems

I downloaded CHIRP from the Web Site to WD 10 and after the down load was completed there was no sign of a CHIRP shortcut on my desk top. Went to C: (x86) CHIRP and found shortcut. I dragged the shortcut to Desktop. I clicked on the CHIRP ICON and Chirp loaded. I then installed the Baofeng USB Programming Cable for Baofeng Two way Radio UV-5R, BF-888S,BF-F8+ With Driver CD to my BF-F8HP Radio. I attempted to install the Driver CD and found it corrupted. I thought that my windows 10 had the most up to date USB Driver and I would not need the one that came with the Programing Cable. I may have been wrong and do need a special Driver. I than plugged the programing Cable in to the USB Port and then the Radio, turned the Radio on, started CHIRP, clicked the Radio Menu, input vendor info, started download. Message: Due to the fact that the manufacturer continues to release new versions of the firmware with obscure and hard-to-track changes, this driver may not work with your device. Thus far and to the best knowledge of the author, no UV-5R radios have been harmed by using CHIRP. However, proceed at your own risk! Typed USB in port assignment box and tried again with the following results. Do I need a special USB Driver? Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks in advance, Scott

[chirp_users] IC-2100H Failed to communicate with the radio: Unexpected response from radio

Hello Chirpers; Having problems connecting my IC-2100H to Chirp. I'm running Windows 10 and downloaded the latest Chirp tonight , but still cannot connect. I have used Chirp with the Pofung without errors. Purchased the USB interface cable from Kj6ZWL through his ebay site. Thanks; Doug WB4JPG
