Ok, rats, and I thot I was doing so good... have no idea where the other firmware came from because I don't own any other radios and have never been in chirp before today, but nevertheless... May I ask how you could tell about the BFB firmware? I would like to confirm I understand what needs done here before I do it. So now I need to actually upload an old build (7-14-2014) into chirp. Then I go to the KC9HI site and click on the F5R3407 BF-F8HP(150319N) (factory) img and that will load the factory image into chirp? (if I don't have the old build loaded this wont work?) and then I need to upload the factory file into radio 1 and then I have to reload the latest chirp build. Do I have that right? Will the other images I currently have in chirp be deleted when I load the old version? You should be able to able to upload an image from any one of them to any one of the others. The reason you can't (and it is a good thing you can't) is because someone has uploaded and image from a radio with BFB firmware into radio #1. It probably doesn't receive signal without pressing the [MONI] button. You definitely do not want to upload BAO1.img into radio #2 or radio #3. You need to follow the procedure in the link below and upload either BAO2.img or BAO3.img (they are both identical) into radio #1. http://www.miklor.com/uv5r/UV5R-Recovery.php#N5R Once radio #1 if fixed, be sure to upgrade back to the latest CHIRP daily build. I have three radios. I used chirp to download an image of the first radio, made a few changes just to practice the process (added some NOAA frequencies), saved that file and uploaded it to radio 1. Changes uploaded fine. I thot' I could use that same fine to upload to the other radios so they would all be set up the same? I downloaded the image of the second radio and saved it, then tried to upload the changed file from the first radio to the second but got this error: An error has occurred. Image not supported by radio: 'XXXXXXX' where each X is actually a rectangular box with an upper case X inside. I saw where someone else had this error and it was noted that the firmware was not the same for the two radios so I checked it and the firmware displayed in the Firmware Message 1 for both downloads is identical: N5R340A So I'm not sure where to go from here. I guess I can recreate all the changes in the download from the second radio (?) but kind of wanted to know what I am doing wrong so the upload of the image from the first radio is not being supported by the second? I was trying to get the chirp software loaded so I can get it setup. I used the daily build install from the CHIRP website. It seemed to run ok but did not give me a desktop icon. I was following the very clear and easy miklor instructions but I have a version of windows that does not provide a start button, neither does it give me an "all programs" selection (don't ask me what version of windows I have because I don't know how to find that either). So I used the "file explorer" option and found the CHIRP folder but I do not see anything to click on to open the software. The folders I see include: etc, lib, locale, share, stock_configs. UV5RE+ firmware N5R-213 chirp-daily 20150814 Problem: radio is set to dual watch with no priority. radio set to slot A and receives RX on slot B radio then flips back to slot A to TX. Same happens if B slot is selected and picks up RX on slot A, it reverts to slot B to TX. New Baofeng uv-5r out of box, purchased Saturday 9/6 at hamfest from vendor. Installed chirp 4.1 and downloaded driver prolific, 7/31/2007, version 3.2.0.0. Device manager tells me it is working correctly. I can download from the radio and add the NOAA bands into the software. When I attempt to upload I receive an ERROR of unsupported firmware N5R3409BFP3-25. I previously installed chirp daily build for 8/15/2015 and got an error of wrong model selection of radio, there was only one uv-5r to choose from. Good Day, I have two models of Wouxon; the 2d and 6d. I am able to upload from both radios without any problems. I can download to the 2d with no problems either. The problem I am having is when I try to upload to the 6d, the pull down menus for radio selection is greyed out and is on the 1d. (not a problem with downloading to the 2d). I have a legit Baofeng usb cable with the 2 leds, I also have downloaded the latest version of Chirp, I have been able to program all of the Baofeng radios including the GT 3 model with the higher power after I found that you need to remove part of the side of the 2 prong end of the cable so it sits in correctly. Programming was successful after that with that model. The problem I am having is programming a Kenwood TH D7A/G radio. Leaving the usb cable in the same usb slot on my laptop using windows 8.1, and not removing it at any time, when I try to download the radio image it comes up with an error message can not open comm port 5, access is denied. This is the same port I use for programming the Baofeng radios. Also with the usb cable inserted in the Kenwood, it flashes PF 3 which indicates to program function 3 button. This radio shows up in the drop down programming box just before you attempt to download or upload. Any suggestions? I tried restarting the computer and other things with no results. Again I am using windows 8.1. Glenn

I haven’t used my Chirp app in over a year and I am trying to add a repeater to my BaoFeng BF-F8 channels. I was able to open the .img file and make the addition, but I am unable to either download or upload from or to the radio. My Chirp app says it’s 0.4.0 Do I need to upgrade Chirp? Is the plug your using that goes into the radio a screw in type? The VX6 uses a screw in type plug for the microphone / headset. The part of the body of the plug that is closest to the pin has threads on it. It's designed that way to help with the waterproof nature of the VX6. When I tried to plug in my generic plug (without the threads on the body) it would not go in far enough to make contact and would not communicate with the radio. I trimmed the plastic on the body of the plug next to the pin of the plug with wire cutters to make it smaller. It still was not small enough to just push the plug in, but I could then screw it in far enough until it made contact. Then the computer would communicate with the radio and I could use Chirp after that. I have been using Chirp for years with amateru radio HTs I have a new Icom IC-A24 which is an air band AM HT to carry as a backup in the cockpit should the radio or power fail and before startup. Is there any risk using the 3.5mm TRS tip used for Icom amateur HTs? Has anyone known of Chirp being used with Icom air band radios? I am thinking that sending the dump command should not brick a radio but it was purchased used and therefore has no warranty.

Good Morning All: I am using a Yaesu VX6, iMac 21.5 and OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. and a cable from KawaMall. When I am attempting to download the contents from the my Yaesu VX6 into CHIRP while in the clone function ,I get an error message saying “an error has occurred” failed to communicate with the radio-no response from radio. I have been using chirp for years on my amateur band UV-3Rs but now I have received an Icom IC-A24 air band nav/com HT to replace my old air HT It looks like I will need a new USB-serial-3.5mm cable with TRS rather than TRRS perhaps a different pinout, ebay has them cheap The question is, can I even use chirp to program and clone the radio or does it use a different format than the amateur radios? Is there any risk trying to dump with chirp and the correct cable or do I need to run the official Icom software with WIne or virtualbox in Ubuntu?

All, I sent to developer as well but maybe ask here as well. I have a circa 2000 Icom IC-2800H with virtual box XP on OS X for CS2800.exe cloning software. I am sucessfully downloading to ubuntu KBOIQ on old MacBook Laptop (64 bit) and maybe older HP 1125nr Netbook. I have been able to get memory sized and names in browser with skip bits mapped. I also figured that the memory frequencies are really weird to see in browser as hex. portmon, ICF and screen capture of CS-2800 are completed. Using Macbook Pro with OS 10.10.5 (Yosemite)Chirp 0.4.1Radio - Baofeng UV-5R I've been successful using older mac os' in communicating to this radio in the past I try to download the radio's program i get this error message "An error had occurredcould not open port /dev/cu.vernebrownscomputer-Blu:[Ermo 16]resource busy : '/dev/cu.vernebrownscomputer-Blu' Not sure what I'm doing wrong or forgot to do. did the cable check - it recognizes the type of chip in the cable as the debug instructions.

I am having a problem programming a couple of my local 70cm repeaters into my baofang UV5R. The problem is that I can access the repeater but although the repeater responds, as indicated by the green light being lit, I hear no audio. This is because R-CTCss is set to on. These two repeaters do not transmit a CTCss tone so I need to program R-CTCSS off on the radio but so far I have been unsuccessful in doing this! Manually loading the repeater into the radio it all works fine, just using a memory channel programmed with Chirp. It is just two repeaters that give probs. all others are OK. So question is how do I program the R-CTCss off for these two memory channels, but leave T-CTCss active of course. Martin G3ZQU.

Have received 3 UV-82 with firmware version N822411N822411. Downloaded from radio the programming template. Entered tones freqs and other info try to up load to radios the new img. image and it says radio model not detected, then I manually enter that it’s a UV-82 and still try to upload to radio and as soon as I do it says firmware not supported. I’ve loaded daily build from yesterday have done a recovery which I think is not need for the 82 and still no luck. Even went so far as to reload the driver program. Not sure what this has done now. I see Pofung is now Baofeng again on units I received. Any help appreciated.

Hello, All... I have the above radio and I'm trying to get CHIRP 0.3.1 on Linux to connect to the radio. I'm using an USB cable that shows up as ttyUSB0. None of the lights on the radio change (LED should blink, right?) and CHIRP errors that the radio is not responding. Any ideas where I should start looking? Take Care & 73 Charles KC6UFM

Hi, I have a Baoefeng UV-5R that I program with chirp. Some of the frequencies I just want to monitor (such as the fire department). I did a search and it led me to Bug 211 in the Chirp Issues. I've just installed the latest build of chirp but can't seem to upload to my Yaesu FT-817nd. I can download the memory without any issues, but when I try to up load I get an error, 'radio did not ack block 0'. Any ideas how to get round this?

I have noticed that no matter how I program my Baofeng UV-5RA (CHIRP, Baofeng Software, manual programming from the radio's keyboard) the offset will reset to 000.000 and not keep the programmed offset of 000.600. Does anyone know why this particular radio does that? I appreciate any help I can receive. Kiera KG7RKU

THANKS Chirp developers! In the past few days, I have programmed 4 Baofeng UV5R radios of various vintage, a Kenwood TH-F6, a Yaesu VX-8GR, and Wouxun KG-UV8D and KG-UVD1P radios using Chirp latest daily build. (20150702). I found 4 generic programming cables in my programming box, all apparently Prolific chipped or clones, all worked. All the cable chips were identified as Prolific by Windows or by Linux. I have used Windows 7 on an Asus laptop, Windows 7 running in Virtual Box on a MacBook Pro, Kubuntu running in Virtual Box on the MacBook Pro, and Ubuntu 14.04 running on an HP Spirit 13 (I dumped Win 8) to do the programming. Chirp just worked on all of that hardware and different operating systems. I briefly tried to get Chirp going native on the MacBook Pro, but didn’t spend the time as Chirp was working great on the Mac in Virtual Box. Things I learned: plug in the programming cable after Chirp is running; and you have to find the correct port that the programming cable is on. Chirp just works!!! THANKS! THANKS!! THANKS!!!
