Hello fellow CHIRP users. I am in need of some assistance. I recently programmed by UV5R after a lot of time spent messing with drivers and cables. Finally got everything talking to each other. Recently went to use the radio with CTCSS tones enabled and discovered an issue. No matter how many times I would program a CTCSS frequency into the menu (11 and 13), the second I move to another menu item and switch back the frequency resets (and yes I hit menu again to confirm each time). In my case specifically the R-CTCSS menu resets to OFF, and the T-CTCSS menu resets to 67.0. I don't even exit the menu, just go to #11 > menu > set for specific frequency > menu to confirm > jump to menu #12 > back to menu #11 and it's sitting at OFF. I know I need to set both to the same frequency for this to work properly but I can't even jump between menu items without it getting reset. So I figure that either I need to adjust something in the radio and from what I've read in all the online manuals I'm doing this right, OR, I have programmed the radio as such to reset to these settings every time. Right now in CHIRP my Tone Mode is set to Tone and Tone frequency is set to 67.0 which is the only frequency the T-CTCSS will set to, but I'm hoping there is a way to program this right so that I can choose a CTCSS frequency on the fly in the radio and not have to program the specific code using CHIRP each time. Ok, the Win_Driver_Prolific_3_2_0_0 with a FTDI chip cable and Chirp (or UV-3R tranceiver software), all work great on my XP and W7 machines. Installing the same driver and cable on my W8.1 Laptop produces the following error: This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Not Enough Quota} Not enough virtual memory or paging file quota is available to complete the specified operation. Any suggestions on how to solve the W8.1 problems? When attempting to save a frequency file for a BF-888S using a 2014 version of CHIRP I noticed that the Save As function would not work (no prompt for file name). After downloading and attempting to install daily build 20150702 I received a "Error opening file for writing" message regarding file _ctypes.pyd (and _hashlib.pyd, _socket.pyd, _ssl.pyd, etc.) Any guidance for solving this installation problem would be appreciated. Please read carefully and you will see that I am not having radio problems I am having software problems. I was trying to use CHIRP with Windows Vista Business. I already have UV-5 and UV-82 loaded and they work, but when I try to run Chirp I get the following: C:\Program Files\CHIRP\chirpw.exe The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more details. I am using chirp-daily-20150702-installer and the cable driver I am using is Win_Driver_Prolific_3.2.0.0 and it works fine on Windows 7 and 10 John Milkor suggested I contact you. Larry Nation K0SLZ

I bought two baofeng radios, one is UV-82C an the other is BF-F8H and I can get neither one to up load to the computer it says in the paper i got with the radios that the small CD disc has all the software on it but when i click on it open it there is just a bunch of files, it says in the instructions that to click on the radio on the menu bar but so far I have found no menu bar with a radio to click on. It says I have to upload to the computer before I can program the radio OKAY what do I have to do get past this point. I'm lost I can't even get started till this happens. thank you Jim KM6WC CM97iw

I have a Baofeng UV-5R radio and am attempting to download from radio and get the error that radio rejects download. I have the programming cable for the radio from Baofeng and it is a USB on the computer end. I even attempted to use another port on the computer.I get it to download from radio but gives me a new set of downloads. I then take the program I had manually set up on a Chirp screen and then export/import to the new download set up when downloaded to radio. I then attempt to download to radio. It will not clone and it says radio rejects clone, or radio rejects download. The manual does not have much information that came with the radio. I thought if I did a factory reset on the radio and wipe out all that was on the radio and then do the download from and to radio it might work but i can not find where to even do a factory reset on the radio. Hello! I recently bought this radio and was very excited to get chirp to work with it. However, it seems like the nuances of "a+" are different than id-51. Hello All, I am trying to load CHIRP onto my desktop (Windows 7). I did check the FAQ and searched the CHIRP website before asking this question. I was looking for step by step instructions for installing CHIRP. My apologies if I overlooked it. What I have done so far is to click on the latest daily builds link. I then downloaded chirp-daily-20150702-installer.exe which when I open it brings up a blank page though there is a RADIO tab with options. I have yet to connect my radio to the computer as I have the computer cable on order. Do I also need to download the <http://trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp_daily/LATEST/chirp-daily-20150702.app .zip> chirp-daily-20150702.app.zip file? I did download and unzip it but now what? [chirp_users] IC-T70A SCAN behavior incorrect after being programmed

Folks, I programmed my IC-T70A using Chirp daily and it programmed successfully, however I found that during SCAN mode any T SQL channel has the beep icon displayed as it’s passed during the scan. If signal is found the radio starts beeping. This behavior is only supposed to be in place if pocket beep is on and therefore I thought it was a programming or firmware bug. I then used RT Systems IC-T70A app to download the memory and immediately program it back. The beep icon and issue went away. My conclusion is that either I’m using Chirp incorrectly to set T SQL or Chirp has a bug where it’s programming T SQL incorrectly. I noticed that Chirp has two identical strings named “T SQL” in the drop down menu and wonder if that could be related to the issue. Perhaps Chirp is programming the memory channel with T SQL with the beep bit turned on. Does this sound like a valid bug? If so, I will file it. Thanks

Hello all: Using the latest CHIRP (daily build 20150702) on a group of BaoFeng UV-82C. The last one I received causes Chirp to quit unexpectedly when I try to upload an image. I can download from the radio and upload new settings but not the cloned image from the other four UV-82C’s that I use. The program crashes and quits within the first 3 seconds of attempting an image upload to this one radio. I’m using MacOSX (10.10.4). Firmware is US2S25 on all five UV-82Cs. Any help appreciated. James

I just won a Baofeng UV-5R at our local hamfest today. Holding "3" down while I power on reports BFB-297, however when I run CHIRP and try to read the radio, CHIRP reports "Incorrect model selected" and I am unable to read the radio. However when I do the same thing using my older UV-5R that reports BFB-251, then CHIRP properly downloads the radio data. Has the Baofeng firmware changed that much? If it helps, the BFB-291 new radio has serial 13U1006381 and the BFB-251 older radio has serial 1010024752. The only difference on the label that I can find is that the older radio claims 480MHz as it's upper frequency, while the newer radio claims 520MHz. I am using the latest 'chirp-daily-20150702-win32' daily build under windows 7 and a FTDI cable, but did try one earlier version with the same results. Any suggestions, assistance, or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and effort. *.....Bob, VE5XEF*

[chirp_users] transfer random frequencies to chirp

I am able to import frequencies from radio reference but there are other frequencies that importing doesn't include. I tried copying the freq's from the reference page to my saved image but the fields don't match and it won't save such as tones and modes. Is there an easy way to get these 20-30 freq's into chirp so to upload to my radio? Do I have to have all fields entered or can I just enter a frequency. Thanks for the info and help.

Hey Marco, fellow Chirp users, Thought I'd chime in mention that programming my FT1D with the Chirp daily went well after a few minor bumps. Thank you to Marco and everyone to make Chirp possible! I searched for them here in the archive and didn't find any so I thought I'd mention them here: #1 - In bringing in memories I saved as an export from a Kenwood TH-F6A, things went very well! #2 - Few questions - Left Hand "Settings" tab APRS General - What is the "User Selected Symbol"? I already have /[ for the APRS "person" symbol - "My Position" says Manual Lat/Long though on the Radio says "GPS" - Time Source says "manual" when the radio says "Auto" APRS Transmit: - Chirp calls it "TX Beacons" is set to "interval" when the FT1D calls it Beacon TX and the Radio has it actually set to to AUTO (not SmartBeacon). This means use SmartBeacon if it's enabled in it's own menu APRS SmartBeacon - I would encourage you to make Chirp a little more verbose. Please rename from Type1 to something a little more helpful like: Type 1 - High Speed, Type 2 - Medium Speed, Type 3 - Low speed APRS Messages - It's pretty slick you can capture these messages but what if I don't want to clone them to another radio. Can you give me a checkbox to delete or not export some/all of these? APRS Beacons - It's pretty nice you can capture these messages but really not useful to clone them to another radio. Can you give me a checkbox to delete or not export some/all of these? I have tried downloading previous daily installs and have had no luck correcting this. I start to edit some of the channels and it says its writing the memory but then the program locks up. Hi, I tested chirp 0.4.1 on Debian Jessie with my Kenwood TH-F7e via USB-serial Adapter and a serial-RIG Cable. It worked very well and I could read and write data from and to the handheld. It failed while reading Frequency Names like Düsseldorf or others with Umlauts. I am running UTF8 on my box. Are there other recommendations on the Locale to be used? Thanks Christian = DG7PC :wq!

Hello, I have a Baofeng BF-F9 tri power. I am using CHIRP daily-20150623 .... GTK 2.24.10 PyGTK 2.24.0 Python 2.7.10. I can download my radios image using BF-F8HP, but when I try to import my local frequencies from radio Reference, I get an error that I need a sud's memory package installed. Has anyone else experienced this or know what I need to do?

Hello, I hadn't installed the daily builds in awhile so the other day I tried to update to the current daily build. I had a message appear on my screen that the computer couldn't find and various files and maybe I didn't have proper permission to access them. Once that popped up my antiviral software treated the setup file as if it was a virus. I tried going back through the daily builds until I found one that would install and the was for the 6/8/2015 one. So what changed? I am running Vista. Thanks, Don Stewart

Hi, I am hoping someone can help. I have a Baofeng UV5 which I got to work perfect with chirp. I ordered a UV82 and can not get it to communicate to chirp. I have downloaded the latest version of chirp, tried going back to a older com port driver and no success. I am running win8 / 64 bit and using driver version 3.6.78.350 which is supposed to be the latest driver. When I try to download from the new uv82 I keep getting error has occurred, could not open port com3: {error 2} the system can not find the file specified.I have the true baofeng usb cable.My original goal is to clone or export my channels from the uv5 to the new uv82 but without connecting to chirp I am lost. I have spent numerous hours trying to search for a fix to no avail.Please help ! Thanks

I just got the radio and finally got CHIRP working on my Mac (drivers for cable – duh)… I’m trying to figure out how to program the A level and B level with different frequencies, but after reaching the end of the Internet via Google looking for the answer, I’m completely stumped. Could someone please let me know where in CHIRP the setting is located?? Thanks in advance!!

Hello - I am a new CHIRP user and have two Baofeng UV-5R radios. I was able to get CHIRP to communicate with one radio and uploaded some memory channels. However, when I tried the second radio, I got an error message "The upload was stopped because the firmware of the image (Ver BFB297) does not match that of the radio (BFB299 BFB297). However, when I power on the radios holding the 3 key down, I see that the firmware version of both is the same - BFB297. How do I resolve this??? Thanks. First of all, I wanted to send my greetings to the e-mail list, as I am something of a novice to newer radio technology. I have a Baofeng UV-5R, I am running Ubuntu 15.10, a USB programming cable, and the latest daily build of CHIRP for Linux systems. When I follow the on screen instructions for CHIRP, after attempting to connect to my radio, the software comes back with a 'Radio did not respond.' error. Richard, My experience is that Apple is the one not playing too nice, although I'm sure they have their reasons. When Yosemite came out last fall, three things happened. First, Apple added their own FTDI driver, which doesn't work with most cables. Second, they put in extra security around all of their drivers that can't be easily bypassed. Thirdly, if you edit the FTDI config files, OS X marks the driver as unusable (because the file checksum changes). I tried many solutions (all pre-Yosemite) and none would work. I ended up moving my Linux machine closer to the radio. It works like a champ with Chirp and fldigi where the Mac would no longer work after upgrading to Yosemite. That said, I found this <https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/how-to-install-ftdi-drivers/mac#yosemi…> that says it works on Yosemite, however I have not tried it. Good luck and 73, Robert AF5RA

My old system died so now I have a new win7 pro machine with all USB3 ports. I cant read from either Baofeng or wouxun rigs. My old system was win7 home with USB2 and another running Vista with USB2. Am using the same prolific cord that worked perfectly on the old systems. I have installed the 3.2.0 driver, device manager tell me it is working properly and to use port 3. When attempting to connect to the radio it tells me there was an error and it cant be found. My USB3, USB2, and USB1 devices work OK when inserted into the USB# ports. Only thing that does not work is when connecting to the two rigs mentioned above.. Any ideas???? *Jim S*

Good afternoon and happy Father's Day Eve to all the dads out there! I have had a PowerWerx DB-750x since February and had had a chance to play with if off and on for the past few months. I purchased it from a national dealer at a hamfest along with the legit RT Systems Cable and software directly from the dealer. It's windows software and I'm a hardcore MAC guy. I borrowed an old XP machine from my Dad, loaded the software, unlocked the rig and did some elementary programming knowing that CHIRP also supported this model, I gave the pc back and started enjoying the radio. Now that I need to reprogram the rig for new memories ect, all I have is my MAC Book Air and was hoping to use the legit cable. Well it turns out that the third and latest version of the RT systems cable apparently doesn't play nice with CHIRP. RT systems apparently did something to make the cable incompatible with third party software.. Since the DB750x is just a clone of the POLMAR and Anyone rigs, I bought a programming cable online for the Anyone model, hooked it up, and am able to do a preliminary download of the radio, but when I go to "open up" the channel views, CHIRP crashes whenever I try to view memory channels above #40. (I can upload the debugger log if necessary) In addition, some of the programmed channels aren't transferring over, and some of the data is actually incorrect. I have tried the POLMAR, Anyone, and the PowerWerx download options, all with the same result. So now I stuck :( I like this radio for operation, but hate manually programming the channels. I'm a huge CHIRP fan and have become spoiled with how easy it is to update m other rigs. Now it looks like I am either stuck finding an XP machine, or maybe another radio. Any suggestions that the group could provide? I should also mention I have tried the stable and daily build versions with the same result. There is an RT systems "Driver" available for the MAC which I have tried, but again their software is not MAC compatible. Thanks in advance, and I really appreciate everyone's time! Richard

Hi Guys, I am a newby to chirp and I am having a problem looking at the memorys in my FT857D. After I down load from the radio none of my memory info appears. But down the bottom of the screen there is a message saying "(0) Completed getting memory 200 (idle)". What am I not doing? Thanks for the help. Hi, longtime CHiRP user for Icom,Yeasu,Wouxun,Baofeng here. I just got a Yeasu FT-8900R (and a USB programming cable) and am having difficulty getting it to download. I'm running CHiRP 0.4.0 on Python 2.7.8 under Ubuntu 14.10. I put the radio in clone mode, have CHiRP waiting for the data, and as soon as I press the V/M button to send the data, I get the error: "ord() expected a character, but string of length 0 found" and the radio shows a clone error. I read the recent (May 4) thread on this list between Dan & Benjamin entitled "Chirp IndexError" that describes the same error. In his case, Benjamin wasn't getting anything from the radio, and it proved to be a loose cable. Not so with me. In my case, here's what I know: I can connect a terminal program (PuTTY) to the correct port and get echo. I also receive data from the radio when pressing the V/M button that looks right. Specifically, the radio sends this string, viewed in PuTTY: AH008$.$ ("." is non-ASCII char) I captured it to a file and this is the exact data stream in hex: 41 48 30 30 38 24 80 24 The correct data stream only appears at 9600 baud, which is what ft7800.py says it should be fixed at. AH008 is the model that the code shows for the FT8900. Here's the terminal output from the failure: ...
