Hi I wonder why my Retevis H-777 Radios don't get connected to chirp. They do under Win10 (2 of them need a lot of tries even under win) but in Ubuntu/Linux they don't connect at all. brgds ME

[chirp_users] With Windows 10, how do you change the driver for a prolific cable?

I recently tried to roll back the driver for a Prolific cable, but couldn't get my version of Windows 10 to allow this. The tab for "roll back driver" is grayed out. I tried to use the update driver, which I had downloaded the correct driver from Miklor, to load in. It kept saying that I had the best driver. Is there a workaround for this, now? I finally found my FTDI cable, and then didn't have any problems. But, I do have a couple of Prolific cables (no doubt fake), so, I would like to be able to use them. Thanks, if anyone has a solution.

Setup: PC: MACBook Pro, late 2014, running Big Sur , USB- OPC-478p cable Radio: Icom IC-2820H Sequence: - Install and start CHIRP - install clone cable USB-478p to MacBook, recognized with no errors - Install device end of same clone cable, USB-478p to Icom Speaker1 - from CHIRP, download Radio (clone) successful - UPLOAD Radio hangs with the progress bar around 95-98% complete - CHIRP UPLOAD errors out (completion code not received from Radio) - Remove the clone cable from Icom and it displays “CLONE ERROR” The process for both download and upload to the IC-2820H works using Windows OS. I have read a few posts, did some searches on this CHIRP website.. as well as a lot of time on the App support sites… there isn’t much if anything about how Apple changes USB and other function… but haven’t figured it out. Thanks for your reply. The MemoryEditorColumns article in Wiki does not provide any info on the DTCS-R and TONE-R choices under the Tone Mode column when opening a NEW under the FILE tab.. Is there an updated version of the MemoryEditorColumns article? I understand the choices are different for each radio I would like to be familiar with all the choices provided when opening a NEW from the FILE tab. I know it's been a while (over 3 months since the Yaesu FT-5D radio has be released and just as long as the info/issue (#9365) about using CHIRP with the FT-5D (https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/9365) dated 09/11/2021. I also do not see the radio listed on the CHIRP site. Since then RT Systems and Yaesu both have applications to program the FT-5D. I've used the Yaesu ADMS14 through my Win10 VM and in my honest opinion it's complete garbage. It's the first Yaesu app that I've used to program a radio. CHIRP is by far THE best that I've used, AND it works on my Mac. Has any progress been made to have CHIRP be able to program the FT-5D? Even if it's just writing to a micro SD card that could be read by the radio it would be great. Thanks & 73. Jeff K3JRZ

Hi All, So I've reinstalled Ubuntu on my machine to 18X, so I can use the older Chirp. I connected the cables to my Kenwood 2000 and successfully downloaded from the radio. I noticed that it operates in live mode, like it does with my Kenwood TH F6 HT. I exported the memories into a CSV file, like with all my radios. I tried to find a settings tab while in Chirp, and was only able to navigate to the memories tab. I am wondering if we can affect the settings of the Kenwood 2000 while in Chirp. Thanks. Glenn

J.J.Ring. Sorry for the delay in response but had chores and duties to perform to bed down things at the homestead before winter. Download from your radio then using the menu, export as a csv file and send the csv file. I believe I did / do have a copy of the cvs, I will check While I have a copy of the .img file I cannot convert it into .cvs. At any rate, the .img file, previously sent to you reflects the cvs. Were you ever able to upload to the Yaesu FT-817ND?Â No, unable to upload to 817ND. Yes, I believe I did upload, but don't know how to check the radio to see if it has done so. I tried uploading but instead of pressing the "A" button I pressed the "C" button, the program stated uploaded for a brief second then disappeared. Therefore I presume it is uploaded. Now if only I can check to see if it is. Any ideas? Do you have a copy of the unmodified img file that you downloaded from your radio before you used any type of software to modify the memories? I believe I do have a copy of the img file, I will check that tomorrow as well. Yes, that is what I previously sent to you. Perhaps your img file got corrupted. That's why CHIRP strongly suggests keeping an unmodified img file of your radio. It is a distinct possibility that it is corrupted. It would seem .img file is intact and not corrupted as per my statement two above. Open your current img file in CHIRP and export it in csv format. I did an export when downloading my HT's in the past. I will now have to remember how I did it. That my not be relevant considering all above. Do NOT use Microsoft Excel to edit that file, it will produce errors. Use libre office or open office instead. No errors with those. I haven't used Microsoft in ages it seems. I now only use LibreOffice exclusively. Yep, gave up Microsoft way back when. Take your unmodified img file from where you saved it and upload it to your radio. OK, will do. Did so and I think it went through, but don't know how to confirm. Does that work without error? Will check and see tomorrow. Many thanks for your several responses and suggestions. Since yesterday, Monday, Dec. 13, 2021 I’ve been trying with small result to get frequencies loaded onto my Yaesu FT-817ND. In the past I’ve had no problems with CHIRP and my various HT’sI’ve tried everything I can think of, as well as, by observing videos; following suggestions from more experienced folks; loading CHIRP first before turning on the radio and after turning on the radio to no avail. I’ve tried in “clone mode” and outside of clone mode. I’ve unplugged both ends of the FTDI FT232 chipset USB to 8 Pin Mini Din Male Serial Adapter CT-62 CAT Cable for Yaesu Radio FT-817, FT-857 and then plugged them in again but nothing helps. Needless to say I’ve read and reread the Owners Manual several times but no luck. Indeed, the manual seems to be outdated in the area of CT-62 CAT. So I;m at my wits end! If anybody can help it will be appreciated. I was able to download the .img files from the radio after trial and error by using the designation of Yaesu FT-817ND (US). That said I’ve been unable to upload the .img file back to the radio after successfully entering all the wanted frequencies for 70cm, 2 meters and 6 meters. One thing I found odd was when the radio downloaded to CHIRP it had some strange entries, (see the attached), perhaps that is the reason for it. At any rate I couldn’t eliminate these oddities from the .img list. Hi, I booted to a copy of Ubuntu Mate that I have on a thumb drive so I can install Chirp. I've done this on Ubuntu in many different versions of Ubuntu, but I get an error when trying to add the repository. Was Chirp removed from the Zenial repository? [chirp_users] Connecting To A Kenwood 2000

Hi Folks, I finally got an antenna outside for my Kenwood that I have in the shack. There are so many buttons on this radio, and I am a Blind Ham, but even with the speech chip on the Kenwood, it is daunting to learn all of its functions. I've have already messed it up so bad that I had to do a full reset. So I thought I'd set it up with Chirp, so I can recover if I mess it up again. I've used Chirp for my HT radios, so I'm a bit familiar with using Chirp. I'm working on trying to get an old computer with serial ports working for the shack, but until then I will need to connect to the Kenwood with a laptop that has no serial ports. I have a USB to serial cable somewhere, but I cannot find it. I did find a serial to Ethernet cable, and I am wondering if the Chirp software will be able to connect to the Kenwood via the laptop's Ethernet port with this cable. Seems like all of the Chirp connection options are all serial and one USB. Thanks for any knowledge. Glenn

Good Day, Using Chirp with RT22 is frustrating for me. Initially I can read and write the radio a few times, but eventually get the dreaded "Radio Identification Failed". Hi, I've got some old Entel HX470 radios that are in perfect condition and seem to work well, so I want to program them (from whatever they were programmed to by the last user) to PMR446 frequencies. The problems I have are; 1. they are so old that Entel don't hold any records of them (e.g. user manuals) (production ceased 15-20 years ago according to Entel) 2. the ENTEL programming software doesn't include them (HX470) 3. CHIRP doesn't include Entel radios at all. Help! If you've got any ideas, I'm all ears as it seems a shame to bin them just because they can't be programmed at the moment. Thanks in advance! Chris

Hello, all. Hoping that all who celebrated Thanksgiving had a restful and relaxing holiday. I'm contemplating buying a Yaesu FTM-400XDR mobile transceiver. See http://systemfusion.yaesu.com/ftm-400dr-xdr/. I'm wondering if I have to buy the RT-SYSTEMS ADMS-M400-U software to program it, or if Chirp can do the job. I searched for FTM-400 in the supported models, but didn't find it. I also searched the last six months of email list archives without success. Does anyone know if this model can be programmed with Chirp? Somewhat related, Yaesu offers this software for free download: ADMS-7 Programming Software at https://www.yaesu.com/downloadFile.cfm?FileID=14972&FileCatID=267&FileName=…. Any idea if this is a full programming software system, or just used to update the firmware of the radio? Thank you for your help and advice. -Kevin KC3KZ

Well according to the VERY Limited documentation the USB is charging and Frequency Download. I also tried them with other FRS radios, and not transmitting on FRS. I will get out the scanner and check with that. I don't see it showing up as a port on windows or a TTY device on linux when I plug it in. I had both these problems in the past. The first time, I came here for advice, and following it, I found that the plug into the radio was not really all the way in, despite my pushing with what I thought was the right amount of force. So I got in a habit of pushing until I felt it fully seated. The next time it happened...different radio and different cable...I found that I had to remove a slight amount of material from the plug so that it would go in all the way. I think I used a nail file to remove small amounts until it fit. A good friend just bought 2 ea of the subject radios and finds that both the FRS and GMRS transmit functions are "locked out". He can receive, but not transmit. Is there an easy way to fix this? I have not yet investigated this on the web, but thought I might ask here first. Ken W7EKB

[chirp_users] Uv5r’s went tx after chirp config

I have 3 uv5r radios Ive configured the way I’d like them, and ordered 4 more to do the same. The original 3 are in perfect Working order. When ever I try to clone the new 4 they do nothing when I try to transmit . The channels all take after cloning but I can’t use the radio. Function restores after a factory reset. Radios were purchased from the same vendor, and my new cable was purchased from the same vendor as well . first one was flawless but misplaced. Any ideas? Sent from my iPhone

Hello, I have a UV-5R and I am not able to transmit any vhf freq above 147.975. I can program in 148.000 but all I get when I try to transmit is "Beep". I am using CHIRP ver daily-20210930 1st time user, don't know if I am doing this correctly. Please advise. Thanks, Jef

[chirp_users] Btech UV-5X3

Power on massage field is grey'd out for Btech UV-5X3 so cannot set message. No error messages. All other features to upload programing to this radio work ! I can activate the power on message via the radio menu but it reverts back to no message after uploading from CHIRP. I tested this same daily build to activate the power on message on a BF-F8HP, BF-F8+III as well as a Yaesu FT2900, all worked without issue? Radio firmware is in the 2nd graphic below Third graphic below, for reference, is BF-F8HP showing active power on message field

Hi, recently found some RT22s that we want to program so I grabbed one of our current ones that is already programmed and went to download from radio on chirp and I continue to get the error ‘radio identification failed’ Any solutions??? Sent from my iPhone
