[chirp_users] BTECH MURS-v1 "Service Settings" squelch thresholds

Hello, New subscriber here with a BTECH MURS-v1 question. My application involves emergency neighborhood communications in a spread-out, semi-rural area. Being able to drop squelch to the bare minimum would be helpful in order to get the best possible range. Unfortunately, the default carrier squelch thresholds on this radio appear to be relatively high, even for Squelch #1. At least that’s my subjective impression. So I tried adjusting them with Chirp's Service Settings dialog. My changes appeared to load onto the radio fine, and I offloaded them back to verify. They came back as I had set them. However, my changes seemed to make no difference to the radio’s actual carrier squelch behavior. Even a threshold of 0, which I would have thought would defeat squelch altogether, made no perceptible change in squelch behavior when the corresponding squelch ID was selected. This behavior is identical to that described in Bug #5333, and that was also a BTECH, though a UV-5X3 rather than a MURS-v1. Thanks a bunch for any thoughts or suggestions! Cheers, —Bill

UV5XP.... However to get CHIRP to see the radio either in the 'Download from radio' or 'Upload to radio' ... with the cable plugged in to my PC or my MAC, the radio must me switched OFF...then as I select 'Download or upload' as I select 'OK' i must immediately switch ON my radio then CHIRP sees it and proceeds. If I try to 'Download or upload' with the radio already switched on I get the message 'The radio did not respond' as CHIRP cannot see it connected. Any suggestions? Thanks VE7ECJ

Gent's...I'm old, and enjoying my "Golden Years", so I only ask that you be gentle with your replies.When I go to use CHIRP on my UV-5R A3, Tri-bander, I get a pop-up advising that Windows is blocking the "unsafe" download. I don't get a choice to download it anyway.We all know that there's nothing wrong with the download.What's the work-around for this?Thanks in advance.Milt.N6MG

I downloaded CHIRP. Plugged my computer cable to a USB port on my computer and got an Error 3 message saying this port is not recognized. No driver. I use this port all the time. I purchased the cable from Amazon as being the one to buy for my Btech 50+1 radio. Help would be appreciated.--*Your pal. Assuming that you're on Windows when you seem to have a port problem it's really necessary to bring up Device Manager to see which port is in use since the port may / can change depending on which USB port you're plugged into. Hopefully this got out on the list this time. Sorry, Jim.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, the images did not come through (see below), but I did poke around in the Device Manager, but did not find anything resembling the programming cable listed anywhere. The only device listed for COM ports is SQL. Should I see the cable listed? Note: COM3 is the only choice presented for the CHIRP clone import process. Newbie Notes: - I managed to find the MIME / Plain Text flag in the User Settings, and updated it, so images should work now. (please resend) - I changed to receive grouped list (not sure what's protocol for replies) [image: image.png] /===========================================================/ Make sure you have selected the correct port. My programming cable is assigned COM3 but my computer has an internal serial port with nothing connected to it that is assigned COM1. If I accidentally choose COM1, I get the same error. Upon Request download there is a brief wait, then the error message is thrown. *Error message* "An error has occurred. Radio did not respond". (debug.log file attached) *Equipment* Baofeng BF-F8HP radio BTECH FTDI cable CHIRP daily 20210724 Windows 10, current with updates *Activities to-date:* Attempted to "Download from Radio" on two different laptops, same result Followed steps (message prompt) from CHIRP app Followed printed steps with the FTDI cable, including installing latest FTDI driver Searched Wiki links Searched Open/Closed support calls. I just made a first attempt at programming the JT-270M, and all went well at first - the radio took the programming, so the cable seems good (and it works fine with two other radios), the programming uploaded to the Jetstream, but now the Jetstream won't power on at all! I looked through the help and couldn't find anything about the problem. This is my first post asking for help, so I hope I am going about it the right way. Thanks for your time and for any help! Unless you are running a very old version of CHIRP (something like from 2014 and before), CHIRP fully supports all 256 possible Windows serial ports from COM1 to COM256. And if I recall, even the very early versions of CHIRP running under Windows supported COM1 to COM16. If you properly configure a higher COM port number in Windows, restart CHIRP and it should be detected. Jim

Hi Team, I just acquired an Icom IC-7000. I’ve reviewed the Chirp literature, looks like I need a OPC-478. This plugs into the CV-I interface correct? At present only the ‘A’ memory bank is supported, correct? Any other insights on using Chirp with the IC-7000? Thanks Carl

Hello there! I represent a group that has been restoring the Cape Decision Lighthouse in southeast Alaska for the past twenty years, and one of our projects this summer is to establish a GMRS radio network on our property. The radios are all getting shipped to Alaska now, but the person who was going to help us program them is no longer available! I am writing to see if anyone here might be willing to help us, potentially by writing and sending us the Chirp files needed to get us up and running. There is no internet or cell coverage where we’re going, but I’ll have a brief opportunity this coming Friday to sit with the radios and a computer and Chirp before we leave for the lighthouse on Saturday. The system includes: (3) Baofeng handhelds (1) Baofeng mobile base (1) Retivis repeater I can send send more details about makes and models and any other information you may require! My hope is that someone on this list can can help ensure that the base station and handhelds and repeater can all communicate with each other with Chirp files I can easily upload into each radio. I would expect the radios to already be programmed to have all of the GMRS frequencies already in them. but, if you want to set them up, to only have some of the frequencies/ctc codes. then you should be able to use Chirp. You can put in Chirp into a computer, then, when you first start, you download an image file of the existing radio's program, modify that to how you want it, and, then upload it back into the radio. You will need to do this procedure for the base unit, repeater, and the portable radios. But, you should only need one image file for the portables, and can use the same programming for all of them, so that they are identical. If you haven't looked at a video, or, read the procedures to use Chirp, you definitely need to. And, of course, you will need to have a programming cable. If your cable is made with a fake prolific chip, which most are, then, you will need to use the v3.3.2.105 driver. Miklor.com, has this information. Note though, that support for the PX-2R is also not working. Reading from or writing to the radio, especially writing to the rig, as it will need a full factory reset afterwards, loosing anything you may have manually entered into the rig. See https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/6389 for details. Bernhard Hailer did look into it, for which I'm grateful, and reported that there seems to be a fundamental data value range limit issue elsewhere in Chirp that causes problems. "Looks like the number of DCS codes reported by the radio exceeds what Chirp expects or can handle." Hello, I’m having trouble with Chirp on my Mac ( 10.13 High Sierra but same problem on Mojave ) and my new Anytone AT-778UV VOX. The radio model is not in the drop down menu. If I launch Chirp from the shell script I get this warning in the terminal; WARNING: python-future package is not available; chirp.drivers.anytone778uv requires it I guess this explains why I don’t see the radio entry in the menu. I tried installing future via pip, everything appeared to work but still no luck. Anybody encounter this problem? Any hints on where to look for a solution? Thanks, Craig

I have a PX-888 radio, a Chirp supported cable, and a Windows 10 computer.The radio is a PX-888, NOT a PX-888K.I am having trouble programming the radio. When I upload or download, the data gets garbled. Data does send both directions, but with errors.The exact model of my radio is not listed in Chirp, it lists a PX-777, and a PX888K.Please help.

Hi all, I have an issue with my new UV-5X. (shocking) The firmware version is P51UV01 and CHIRP will not communicate with the radio. My COM port is 3, the radio is a baofeng and the model is UV-5X The CHIRP message is "Rado did not respond" Tried a bunch of baofeng models and got the same response. Downloaded the baofeng software and it reads the radio fine. I can make changes from the keypad of the radio and they show up in the baofeng software when I redownload from the radio. This also works when I use the software to make changes and write the changes to the radio. It appears CHIRP doesn't work with this firmware update. Please correct me if I am wrong, as I am often wrong. This setup is working for me but I prefer CHIRP.

The CHIRP website says it supports the TH-K2, so that is what I selected when I attempted to program my TH-K20A with my Mac, but it didn’t work. It would not download the data from the radio. I tried with both RT’s USB-K4Y and the FTDI cable, but no joy. Is there anyway to use CHIRP on a Mac to program the TH-K20A? Thanks. Jim
