Hi, and thanks for allowing me to join the group. I have been working on getting my CHIRP installed (and working) for several days now. Tonight, I FINALLY got everything to work, after trudging through many website, emails, and discussions. I created a couple of channels as a test run and everything read from the radio and wrote to the radio with no problem. I then went back into the program to start over and I got errors indicating the Port was no good. I had not removed the cable or changed ports, or done anything differently. When I went into my Devices and Printers folder, there was a yellow warning sign stating there was a problem with the port. But everything worked fine just seconds before that. I'm sure I will have more questions, but after getting this far on my own, I'm at a loss, and hope to get some help. Thank you for your time, Christy KEØCJO

I would be very grateful if you could add my trusty old Alinco DJ-V5 to the radio interface list. RT Systems <https://www.rtsystemsinc.com/alinco-handheld-radio-programming-software-s/1 857.htm> used to have a program for this radio but it has been long since discontinued and they're not interested in discussing it. The radio is robust and feature rich but, as with most handhelds, a nightmare to program manually. Thanks, Jim McLellan K5BAA

So I id install the 3.2.0 driver on my Windows machine at work. After that I was able to access the radio with CHIRP. Thanks for that! When I got home I tried some steps to remove/disable the existing USB driver on my MAC that I found in a thread on a forum I read too. After installing the driver for "counterfeit" Prolific cables I still got the "radio did not ack" error. I then changed the COMP (29) menu setting to ON. That seemed to do the trick! I can now access the HT with CHIRP on my preferred mac machine. Now I need to RTFM to figure out how to use a dual band radio. Never had one before. thanks for your help. Was there ever a resolution this thread? http://intrepid.danplanet.com/pipermail/chirp_users/2014-November/006832.ht… I am having the same issues with a new Pofung(baofeng) UV-B5 on both Windows 7 and MAC OS X Mavericks with CHIRP. The OEM software works fine on Win7 for me though. There is not MAC Version so I can't do much troubleshooting on it. CHIRP does work on the MAC with a Puxing 777 and a Kenwood TH-K2 successfully. Only the UV-B5 gives the error.

Do NOT allow Windows to update the USB driver when you plug in the USB cable and Windows loads the USB driver. Upgrading from CHIRP TO CHIRP-Daily. dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/chirp-daily_20141119~utopic~1_i386.deb (--unpack): trying to overwrite '/usr/share/applications/chirp.desktop', which is also in package chirp 0.4.0-1 dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe) Chirp (regular) was uninstalled first then chirp-daily from the PPA was attempted to be installed. I am helping someone with this, I am just sending this in. Does anyone see any problem with deleting /usr/share/applications/chirp.desktop to get rid of the error or is there a better way? David

[chirp_users] Cannot program Yaesu VX5R - need suggestions on how to debug.

I have a Yaesu VX5R, and I cannot read the radio using CHIRP daily-20141119 under Linux. Symptoms: Set up to read the radio. Start the read, press the VFO button, and the radio shows "CLONE TX" for about a second or two, then CLONE FAIL. I've tried this with 2 cables - one that is just a Yaesu to RS-232 cable (and then using a Prolific USB to RS232 adapter, and also using a native 16550 based RS-232 port), and one that is a Yaesu to USB using a Prolific cable. I have verified my user ID can read the serial device, and have verified that the cable acts as a loop back cable using Minicom. I'd like some suggestions on what to try next to debug what is going on. Are there any flags I can set to try to get more debug information? Does anybody have a Yaesu VX5 radio image I can try to load, to see if loading works?

I still cant program the radio, it is not uploading tot he newer radios from my older img. the older img is the only one that I have, I have tried to read intot he fix but I really think I am in need of some step by step help. I am not as experienced as many of the guys on the forums and such and need a bit more guidance as to if I can flash the new radio with older frimware and the location of it if it exist. I tried using CHIRP 20141119 with a genuine FTDI cable to read from my TH-D7(G) and the only result I could see was a mysterious "PF3" message flashing on the bottom of the THD7's screen. Does anyone know if CHIRP is known to work with the TH-D7(G) ? Or what the PF3 message means? Thanks. --Red

Hello chirp users! My name is Jason Polansky 'Kc3DYC'. I just received my ham radio technician class license and learned about Chirp from my instructor. I am blind and use the JAWS screen reader on a windows 7 computer. After downloading Chirp and opening it, JAWS was not reading anything. Pressing the alt key didn't take me to the menus as it does with most programs. Can anybody help. Thank you Jason Polansky

And I suspect the problem with the OP is that the radio that he is copying from and the radio that he is copying to have two different versions of firmware. You can't do that. You have to download an image from the radio that you are going to program, populate the image, then write it back to the radio. If each radio has the same version of firmware, you can copy from one radio, then upload it to each radio in turn. CHIRP will tell you what firmware version you have after you download the image, but it won't check it when you upload it. (You can find the firmware version in the "Settings" tab.) [chirp_users] Wouxun KG-UV6X, is it possible to unlock menu function?

Hello everyone. I was hoping you could help me out. I just received my Wouxun KG-UV6X. As expected it showed up with the keyboard locked. I have a MAC running on OSX 10.9.2. There were several references on the internet suggesting that Chirp can unlock the keyboard. I am using a USB cable that I have successfully worked with about 15 Wouxun UV3D's as well as a kenwood TH-F6, so I'm pretty darn sure my cable works. I was able to download from radio on my new UV6X and upload to radio a few frequencies that I need for work tomorrow (Safety/Rescue technician for a large exploration project). I am unable to unlock the menu feature on the radio. I was expecting to be able to click on the settings button in Chirp and access that option, and others, from there (similar to the KG-UV3D's I've programmed. John/Jim, Sorry for the delay in responding. Version 0.4.0 works with my 51A under Windows XP. Version 0.4.1 does not. I tried the latest daily build last week and it did not work either. I'll try the daily build that just came out and see if that works. [chirp_users] Ubuntu daily build PPA broken?

I recently upgraded to Xubuntu 14.10. I tried to add the daily build repository "ppa:dansmith/chirp-snapshots" and when I do a sudo apt-get update I get several errors: Err http://ppa.launchpad.net utopic/main amd64 Packages 404 Not Found Err http://ppa.launchpad.net utopic/main i386 Packages 404 Not Found W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/dansmith/chirp-snapshots/ubuntu/dists/utopic/main/… 404 Not Found W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/dansmith/chirp-snapshots/ubuntu/dists/utopic/main/… 404 Not Found E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. It looks like I'm getting 404 errors because the URL is wrong or something. Does anybody know how to fix this?

I can't seem to get this computer with this version of Chirp to communicate with my Icom ID-51A. [chirp_users] Radio did not ack programming mode with UV-B5

When I try to do "Download from radio" on my UV-B5 with chirp, I get a "Radio did not ack programming mode" error. I did some googling, but all the tips did not help. I discovered that using the programming software version 1.09 on Miklor did work, so it probably isn't a driver or cable issue. I have driver version 3.2.0.0. I get the error on both Linux and Windows 7. In Windows, I did some serial port captures to compare the traffic from the stock software and chirp. Below are those files generated by Serial Port Monitor by Eltima. The HTML files are exported versions so someone without the software could read the output. I stored it on the radio, but when I download it and try to edit I get the error. I am trying to program a Yaesu VX5 using Chirp under Ubuntu, and I am not having any luck. I've tried 2 cables - one a USB to Yaesu cable, one a RS-232 to Yaesu cable (the latter both on a USB to RS-232 adapter, and on an honest UART based serial port). In all cases, I cannot download the data from the radio. Steps taken: 1 Verify serial device is readable/writable by my user (minicom, verify I see data looped back). 2 Start CHIRP (daily-20141112) 3 Select correct serial device (/dev/ttyUSB0), Vendor (Yaesu), and radio (VX-5) 4 Turn radio off, connect cable 5 Turn radio on holding Function (Radio shows "CLONE") 6 Radio->Download from radio. 7 Press OK 8 Press VFO key on radio. I am having difficulty getting my laptop to communicate with the IC-208H. It is easy to start the radio such that it displays "CLONE". Pressing the "SET*LOCK" button gives "CL OUT" but quickly clicking on the "download" in Chirp only gives an error message that there is a failure to communicate. John (kc2txv) was kind enough to send me a file that he has used with his Icom IC-208H. I modified the frequencies as applicable for my area and attempted to simply download the image file to the radio without having first accomplished an upload. That gives the message: "An error has occurred Failed to communicate with the radio: Unexpected response from radio." I verified that I have the "Prolific" USB cable set to the correct com port. However, I do not know of a good way to test the cable.

Hello everyone....Thanks to all who provide us less capable with the answers to program our radios. I have successfully programmed my BaoFeng UV-5re and would like to do the same with the Yaesu. I've seen comments that this is possible. Would someone be able to give me step by step instructions so I don't have to reinvent the wheel? I have the programming cable for the BaoFeng and can connect to the necessary pins of the data jack on the 7800 via a homemade adapter. Thanks, Phcyman KØMBB

[chirp_users] UV-82 C Issue with work mode

I have set up eight BAOFENG UV-82 C radios to use in my fire department. I have locked them down in CHIRP using the work mode settings. Here is what I have done: *Advanced Settings* -Dual Watch = Enabled -Dual Watch Priority = A -All menu's = Disabled -Single PTT= Enabled *Work Mode Settings* -Display =A -VFO/MR Mode = Channel -MR A Channel = 2 -MR B Channel =1 The result is that both the "A" channel and "B" channel show on screen as expected. The users can change channel "A" with the up/Down buttons. The users can not tab down and change the "B" channel. They can press the "Tab" button and the indicator arrow will go down to "B" and immediately return to the "A" channel. All this is perfect and what I wanted to happen. The problem/issue that I do not like is this: As radio traffic is being received on the "B" channel, the user can inadvertently press the up/down buttons and change the "B" channel. This is a huge issue because they can not change it back unless traffic is received on whatever channel they accidentally changed "B" to. The "B" channel should not be allowed to change under these circumstances. If this were corrected, it would be a perfect set-up for us. Any ideas or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Got mine in today and did a test download (1st!!) and then a test change and it uploaded perfectly. I’m using the daily build of Chirp and a Mac Mini and the same cable that I use with my UV-82 and UV-82C. No worries…. :) Forrest

[chirp_users] baofeng 82 squelch on uhf

Using chirp, my squelch setting may still read setting 1 but the actual setting moves from .2 micro volts to 1 micro volt making the squelch useless. any one have any ideas why, what I thought was in firmware is changing? When I reset the radio by the menue it resets back to default up load again, the squelch changes. Seems to only affect the UHF side.

I totally agree… Raspberry pi the only way to fly.. works great. Programs all of my radios no problem.. No driver issues at all.. I just installed an IC-208H radio in my vehicle. I would like to use Chirp to program it by computer rather than by hand. It would be most helpful if someone has a prior download from an IC-208H that I could study. Even though I would be making changes to frequencies, etc., the prior download would show how Chirp displays the information from an IC-208H. I learned many years ago that many tasks become much easier the second or third time. It also is a big help to draw upon the experience of another person. I shall look forward to a reply. Thomas

I have an ICOM , ID-RP4000V Dstar repeater. According to the Wiki page both the VHF and UHF repeater is supported. When I check the daily build list it is not shown as supported and I could not locate a *.py file for the repeater. I have been through the archives and found reference that support for the ID-RP400V was added and it was working , but not much other info. When I run Chirp to try detect the repeater/radio I get an error message " An error has occurred Unable to get radio model". I have tried both the most up to date windows version and a USB thumb drive with the Live CD loaded. Both versions operate fine , but with the error message. Any suggestions???? Bob K7MHJ

Hi, I wonder if anybody has tried this and can offer advice: I have chirp running on a laptop in my apt, but an FT8900 is in a boiler room one the roof. The remote control head for the radio is down in the apartment. I can connect to the FT8900 by running a ser2net service up there and socat down here. With this setup and permissions all set OK using /dev/pts/5, I can see the FT8900 send a character when I put it into clone mode. But chirp will not recognise anything and gives me "Failed to communicate with radio: Failed to read header (0)" I am using SuSE linux here and CentOS upstairs. I have tried setting the serial port up there to 1200, 4800, 9600 and 19200. I assume that chirp uses autobauding to communicate with the radio but that is obviously not available over a tcp connection. I'm trying to program a BF UV-82C for a friend. I note that compatibility for this radio is available in daily builds. I'm using Chirp daily - 20141025 which I think is the latest, but the UV-82C does not seem to appear in the list of compatible radios. Using UV-82 I can program the frequencies but not the special settings. I bet I'm missing something obvious but so far it's escaping me so I come to the brain trust for guidance. Greetings, I just wanted to report that I have had great success with the latest daily build and my Wouxun KG-UV8D. I was able import and export configuration to my radio with no issues. I downloaded, as a test, the repeaterbook data for my state, and was able to successfully edit the data and upload it to the radio with no errors. Able to edit power levels, tones, names, etc, with no errors popping up. Thanks for the great work. New list member. I have a new Baofeng UV82L that a friend loaded with his freqs using Chirp on his PC. I have installed Chirp software on my Win 7 PC along with the correct Prolific usb serial to com port driver 7/31/2007 v 3.2.0.0. My pc recognizes the driver as Com 3 and is operating normally. I want to upload my phone freqs into my blank Chirp software but I am getting an error msg after plugging in the usb cable "cannot open port 3 [Error 2]. The system cannot find the file specified" and Chirp will not connect to the phone. Any Suggestions?

The common wisdom with regards to USB-to-serial cables seems to be that one should pick FTDI over Prolific because of all the Prolific counterfeits in circulation. It seems that this is now becoming a problem with FTDI, as well. Up to now it was not a problem for the end-user. FTDI has decided to change that with their latest driver, which changes the configuration of a "fake" FTDI chip so that it is rendered useless (at least without a bit of fiddling with configuration tools and device IDs on Linux or XP). I hadn't realized that FTDI had such an issue with fake chips until I read this article. Some of the comments point out that the end-user of the device has no way of knowing whether the chip is genuine or not. Further, as noted above, many in the radio programming community purchased devices touted as having FTDI chips in good faith as an effort to avoid the counterfeits Prolific chips. Anyway, if you suddenly have issues with your FTDI USB-to-serial adapter, take a look and see if the PID has been changed to 0. If so, then you may have been affected by this new driver. After I import the data from an Icom IC-92AD and I want to save all the config data I'm having an error. I'm using both prolific and FTDI serial adapters. If I try to use auto detect on Icom it crashes the program. I've not tried with other radio brands as I only have the Icom. Looks like prolific isn't the only company with counterfeiting issues, but according to this article, ftdi isn't just making their driver incompatible, they are literally bricking the fake chips: http://hackaday.com/2014/10/22/watch-that-windows-update-ftdi-drivers-are-k… A fix for the damaged hardware is available for now, but who knows how long they will keep it. Hello All, I have a Yaesu FT-7800 radio which I program manually. I also have a Baofeng UV-5RE plus with programming cable. I run Windows 7. I have successfully programmed the Baofeng and would like to know if anyone has used CHIRP and the UV-5RE programming cable to program the Yaesu FT-7800. The FT-7800 uses a PS2 type connector at the rear of the radio so I would have to make a custom cable interface which is no problem, I'm just puzzled over the connections / pinout. Needless to say I was thrilled that the Wouxun KG-UV8D was listed in your daily build released Oct 15th. I tried to program my 8D this morning. I was able to read the radio just fine. I am not able to change or enter new channels at all. When I try a popup says 'Invalid value for this field 'skip''. No matter how I try I cannot make changes. The Settings menu screen is blank??? I am truly grateful for CHIRP and all the work your team puts into this work. I have used CHIRP successfully on several versions of Baofeng, Kenwood, Yeasu, Anytone and ICOM radios. Thanks! The new ID-51 LE Plus model does not appear compatible with the normal ID-51 profile choice. Has anyone developed a working beta ? If someone has had experience connecting the FT-8800R to a computer, I would appreciate learning the correct procedure order for download and upload. The Yaesu manual reads: To clone from one transceiver to another, use the following procedure: 1. Insert the Cloning Cable into the DATA jack of each transceiver. 2. Turn both transceivers off, then press and hold in the "left" [V/M] key on each radio while turning the power on again. 3. Rotate the "right" DIAL knob on each radio to select (CLONE START), then press the [SET] key. The display will disappear for a moment, then the "CLONE" notation will appear on the display. 4. On the "destination" radio, press the "left" [LOW] key. The "CLONE -RX-" indicator will appear on the display. 5. Now, on the "source" radio, press the "left" [V/M] key. The "CLONE -TX-" indicator will appear on the display, and the cloning data transfer will immediately begin. Since the computer running Chirp will be the "TX" during download, and then "RX" during upload, there may be some question as to whether to initiate the download first in Chirp, or transmit from the radio first. I have just received this radio. I realize that it isn't on the list of supported radios. The Baofeng Tech site recommends Chirp for programming the radio. Since it is an upgrade to the uv-5r I was hoping that the interface was the same as that radio. In fact, I connected the radio and downloaded the configuration and Chirp labeled the file as a uv-5r. I imported an .img file that I had for a Wouxun radio but when I tried to upload the image back to the radio it gave me an error saying that the radio was not responding. The cable is one that i had for the Wouxun and has worked with Chirp for that radio and I thought it was compatible with the Baofeng radios. When i power up the radio with the 3 held down it gives me BF5297 So I am trying to figure out where my problem is. Has anyone used Chirp with this radio successfully. If so what did it take to make it work. Is the cable possibly the problem.. Any help is appreciated. Don

[chirp_users] Scripting CHIRP or manipulating Duplex settings

If this ends up being a duplicate post, I apologize: I never got a copy back from the list server. I would like to programatically combine multiple stock configs, potentially manipulating them as I go. Failing that, I need to be able to at least modify duplex settings across an entire config at one go rather than having to toggle the settings for each channel entry. Here is what I am trying to do: I have a number of .csv files defining different zones for channel settings. For example, I have, a zone for regional interoperability, a zone for local law enforcement, local fire, etc., a zone for NIFOG Interoperability channels, a zone for GMRS, a zone for regional ARES/Skywarn channels, one for channels used by CERT and other local groups, etc. I store those zone files as stock configs for building a laydown for a specific radio and specific user. Specific users will need some zones in their laydown and not others. More problematically, different users may be *licensed* for some services and not others. Generally it is not a problem to monitor the channels they are not licensed for, but I have to lock out transmit. For example, a user is licensed for local Part 90 public service but not amateur radio or vice-versa. So, when I build their laydown, I bring in the zones they need from stock configs but I either need to build two files for each zone (and worry that they will lose sync over time) or I have to manually toggle Duplex=off in each channel in every service they do not have access to. This gets to be a bit of a pain. I also need to make some individualized settings for each user (e.g. call-sign to come up at startup). As Chirp is written in Python, is there an internal API available to do this kind of manipulation? Is that API at all documented or stable? Ideally, I would like to write a script which will do something like (pseudocode): newWouxunLaydown.import("ZoneA.csv", 0); newWouxunLaydown.import("ZoneB.csv", 30, monitor); newWouxunLaydown.import("ZoneF.csv", 100, monitor); newWouxunLaydown.import("ZoneN.csv", 190, monitor); newWouxunLaydown.set("startup_message", callsign); newWouxunLaydown.set("lock_pin", pin); newWouxunLaydown.set("primary_channel", primaryChannel); # ...etc... newWouxunLaydown.write(outputFile); I can then create a script for each common configuration and when, for instance, ZoneB gets updated, just run the scripts to rebuild the laydowns. In theory I could even version control the .csv s for the zones and the scripts, stick them on a server, and then reuse them between local agencies (the end goal). Is this a fantasy? Somehow going from there to pretty-printing quick-reference cards for each user would be nice, too... :-)

Hi Todd, How’s fishing up there in Tomah? I grew up in No. Ill. and all the best fishermen talked about going up to Tomah in the summer to fish (muskies, I think?). I have the complete TH-9800 pkg with cable driver software, but I’ve misplaced my cable. I’ve another on order, but it isn’t here yet. I’m closing my station and going to Florida for the winter ASAP, and think I packed the programming cable in my Florida station box (sealed up and in storage). So I can send the complete package except the programming cable right away, the programming cable must come later, perhaps as late as November. I have the following questions: 1. Who is the developer who will receive the radio, and where is said developer located? If multiple developers, I would prefer to send to someone in Florida or New England. 2. Can the developer start doing his/her ‘thing’ without a cable (as in, “does the developer already have a cable that fits?")? 3. The mike has a number of user programmable functions; therefore, should I assume the mike needs to be shipped with the radio? Is the mounting bracket/pkg needed? 4. By the time the developer is finished with the radio, I’ll probably be enjoying the warm Florida sunshine, instead of this crappy Rhode Island fall chill and rain. Is it OK for the developer to ship it to Florida, instead of my home here in the frozen wastelands of the north? I’d like to mount said radio on my motorcycle, which I‘ll be riding all winter in shorts and T-shirt. Let’s do this and add the TH09800 to the Chirp list! 73 Terry de wd4aon(a)gmail.com

Hello everyone. I need to program about 12 Icom-3021T commercial Hand held radios. This model is not listen on the Chirp site as being supported. There are a lot of ICOM's listed, but not this one. Any chance one of the radios in the chirp drop down list would work to program these radios? Unfortunately, the last person who programmed our radios inadvertently rendered them not field programmable. I need to add 1 frequency, of which we would be communicating with flight for life should we have an emergency. (not an AM aviation frequency btw). 151.5050 Thanks in advance. Rob

Yes you need a ground reference connection. Join the Data TX and RX together onto the data pin and it works. I made my own cable for the VX-5 and it works. [chirp_users] Homebrew cable for Baofeng UV-5R/Yaesu VX-7R based on CP2102 UART

Hi I have programming cables for the Baofeng UV-5R and a Yaesu VX-7R which I suspect are based on cloned Prolific chips and give me no end of trouble with Chirp (and VX Commander for the Yaesu) I spotted the Miklor website that gives information about building a cable for the Baofeng using a CP2102 USB/TTL UART. http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Technical.php#progcable I was thinking that rather than soldering the cable for the Baofeng directly to the UART board I could put the board in a small box with a USB extension lead one side and with a 3.5mm stereo jack on the other. I would then terminate the programming lead for each radio with a 3.5mm plug wired appropriately. The Baofeng connections I can take from the Miklor website above but what would I need for the VX-7R? I found this pin out for the VX-7R http://www.kc8unj.com/pinout.jpg This seems to be similar to the Baofeng UV-3R (as shown on the Miklor page) but is a Ground connection required? 73 Mark GW7KDU Cardiff, UK

Good Folk, Went to site, saved all items there as .jpg but 150% unsure how to use to programme my UV-5R HT. El Spouse said I had to do this myself, he declines to AbetAid&Assist. I haven't had HT that worked since my IC2AT & advent of PL tones everywhere (we both had those, El Spouse just bought another) -- never used to drive nails with, but could've. Bought a Yaesu from local club mbr, but may not use it cuz El Spouse does. Ahh the pitfalls of using an archaic mailing list instead of a forum, no ability to search old posts effectively. I'm having an issue with CSV import. It seems that Chirp is using it's own interpretation. 1. Open Office and Excel both save CSV in formats that can not be imported which is not Chirps fault but I still have to deal with it. So, is there a list of settings and character encoding that actually work when saving from Open Office Calc? 2. Chirp seems to break the RFC 4180 ( http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4180 ) for CSV in that if you quote the header fields it breaks. Does that need to be reported as a bug? This is what I'm doing that I cannot seem to get to work. I have a Calc document with the repeaters for the state of Indiana. I export a chirp file to csv and open that in calc as explained here: http://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/1251 Then I just copy and paste the fields into the chirp csv file and save. I get the no channels found error. I use sed to strip out any excess hidden characters and then try again and still I get the no channels error. I previously used CHIRP on my Windows 8.1 machine with my Baofeng UV-82. I uninstalled it for awhile. I recently reloaded the chirp-daily-20140921-installer-exe from the web site on my hard drive. I am unable to get the application to open with the latest install. Are there any suggestions for getting the program to open. Sent from Windows Mail

Need some info on downloading and programming the raspberry pi model B+.. got and old program from pi site and it works great on two of my handhelds but does not have provisions for the UV5.. Interesting problem -- I had one of those older USB to serial cables that had the old Prolific chip in it and it was blocked by the newest drivers that are in Microsoft, so I purchased a Plugable USB to serial converter which is supposed to have the later version of the Prolific chip in it. I tried it using the RS92 software from Icom and it works just fine, but using it with chirp, it appears not to be communicating with the radio because if I disconnect the radio, I get the same information back as I do if the radio is connected -- all invalid. I don't suspect that the problem is in the cable, but it could be the issue and maybe I need to go out and buy a third cable with the acceptable chip in it to get chirp to work. Does anyone know what the voltage of the signals are coming from an IC92AD? Are they "true" RS232 signals (ie +12 to -12 volts) or are they TTL voltages 0 to +5 volts? Is there a way to tell the Prolific chip that these are TTL voltages and not RS-232 voltages? Maybe that would help some people. de WD6FIE Richard Ravich

Not enough information to be 100% sure what is wrong, but the most common problem with CSV files is an incorrect number of commas, especially the trailing commas at the end of each line. Opened that with Excel Opened the RT file as a CSV in Excel Took columns from the RT CSV file and place them into the F8HP file image only inserting into the compatible columns.
