Is there any place I can upload... say a "serial dump" file of communication between it and some propriety software (named SV83) ? I managed to create a serial sniffer cable, so if I have a place to upload it, then you guys could inspect and add support for it. Heck I think having a dedicated place to upload serial dumps would be great for reverse engineering efforts.

[chirp_users] Wouxun KG-UV6X, is it possible to unlock menu function?

Hello everyone. I was hoping you could help me out. I just received my Wouxun KG-UV6X. As expected it showed up with the keyboard locked. I have a MAC running on OSX 10.9.2. There were several references on the internet suggesting that Chirp can unlock the keyboard. I am using a USB cable that I have successfully worked with about 15 Wouxun UV3D's as well as a kenwood TH-F6, so I'm pretty darn sure my cable works. I was able to download from radio on my new UV6X and upload to radio a few frequencies that I need for work tomorrow (Safety/Rescue technician for a large exploration project). I am unable to unlock the menu feature on the radio. I was expecting to be able to click on the settings button in Chirp and access that option, and others, from there (similar to the KG-UV3D's I've programmed. However, when I click on the Settings button I get nothing but a blank screen. I tried to download the free software from the Wouxun site, but of course my OS does not support it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. rob

Got mine in today and did a test download (1st!!) and then a test change and it uploaded perfectly. I’m using the daily build of Chirp and a Mac Mini and the same cable that I use with my UV-82 and UV-82C. No worries…. :) Forrest

Greetings, I just wanted to report that I have had great success with the latest daily build and my Wouxun KG-UV8D. I was able import and export configuration to my radio with no issues. I downloaded, as a test, the repeaterbook data for my state, and was able to successfully edit the data and upload it to the radio with no errors. Able to edit power levels, tones, names, etc, with no errors popping up. Thanks for the great work. Looking foward to being able to edit the radio settings...... hopefully in the next build.... :) -- Mark D. Fenley

New list member. I have a new Baofeng UV82L that a friend loaded with his freqs using Chirp on his PC. I have installed Chirp software on my Win 7 PC along with the correct Prolific usb serial to com port driver 7/31/2007 v 3.2.0.0. My pc recognizes the driver as Com 3 and is operating normally. I want to upload my phone freqs into my blank Chirp software but I am getting an error msg after plugging in the usb cable "cannot open port 3 [Error 2]. The system cannot find the file specified" and Chirp will not connect to the phone. Any Suggestions?

[chirp_users] FTDI Chipset driver bricking fake FTDI chips

The common wisdom with regards to USB-to-serial cables seems to be that one should pick FTDI over Prolific because of all the Prolific counterfeits in circulation. It seems that this is now becoming a problem with FTDI, as well. Up to now it was not a problem for the end-user. FTDI has decided to change that with their latest driver, which changes the configuration of a "fake" FTDI chip so that it is rendered useless (at least without a bit of fiddling with configuration tools and device IDs on Linux or XP). I hadn't realized that FTDI had such an issue with fake chips until I read this article. Some of the comments point out that the end-user of the device has no way of knowing whether the chip is genuine or not. Further, as noted above, many in the radio programming community purchased devices touted as having FTDI chips in good faith as an effort to avoid the counterfeits Prolific chips. Anyway, if you suddenly have issues with your FTDI USB-to-serial adapter, take a look and see if the PID has been changed to 0. If so, then you may have been affected by this new driver.
