Is there any place I can upload... say a "serial dump" file of communication between it and some propriety software (named SV83) ? I managed to create a serial sniffer cable, so if I have a place to upload it, then you guys could inspect and add support for it. Heck I think having a dedicated place to upload serial dumps would be great for reverse engineering efforts.

It depends on which radio but on most it is turn the radio, with cable attached, on and you're in programming mode. [chirp_users] Step setting on radios

The step is the channel spacing amount. You can set this on many radios from 25 to 2.5 MHz. When you turn a tuning know in VFO mode, this is the amount the radio changes frequency by. If the radio's step is too high, it will not allow entry of some frequencies and will do something (variable by radio) to go to the next higher or lower frequency which complies with the step value you have set. Ø Your package index files are stale. Always run "apt-get update" before "apt-get upgrade". Trouble is, as was in the original (ornate) message, this was an AUTOMATIC update. I did not run anything. I am not sure what to run to do an update yet. I have not gotten to that part of the book yet. This window came up and I let it run and thats what it said (http://ppa.launchpad.net/dansmith/chirp-snapshots/ubuntu/pool/main/c/chirp- daily/chirp-daily_20130822~precise~1_amd64.deb 404 Not Found) I did try the two command (with the required SUDO added in front) and they did stuff. What I was trying to report that the automatic update failed. Thanks for the manual entries. I can fall back on these when the automatic fails again. Mike

Then the updating was allowed to proceed and anon, the great Ubuntu said: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/dansmith/chirp-snapshots/ubuntu/pool/main/c/chirp-… 404 Not Found And the faithful asked: "What doth this mean in our lives?" I need some help here please. I have LinuxMint 14 installed on my laptop. Mint sees my USB cable as ttyUSB0. However, all Chirp sees is tty0 and above, no USB anything, thus I can't begin to connect to anything until I can get Chirp to recognize my USB ports.
