[chirp_users] CHIRP and IC-7000

Has anyone had any success programming an IC-7000 with CHIRP? My CHIRP sees the radio and tells me it programs only in "live" mode and that it can't download or upload anything. When I try to enter data directly CHIRP goes through something but then the screen comes back and reloads the channels again. All of which are blank, by the way. 73 Dick

[chirp_users] Baofang/wouxon in Chirp LIVE and MAC issue

Good early morning to everyone! I have with a Wouxon and a Baofang uv-5r that I can successfully program with chirp in my Mac after downloading the generic cable drivers. The wouxon worked just fine with the live Cd (which I made a bootable USB out of with the instructions from the site). However when I go to clone my Baofang it reads the radio restarts the radio then the chirp live just goes blank like I never attempted to clone it at all. I have tried two cables bought more than a year apart from different vendors and I can get the Baofang to clone just fun in the Mac version. Any ideas on how to fix the issue with the live USB? I love this idea as I just have a bootable USB thumb drive zip tied to the cable and can be programmed on the fly from anywhere... Thanks in advance, Richard Sent from my iPhone

Gents, new to the list and honestly don't know how to search and see if this topic has been discussed before. I modified my 817nd so it would work on cap freqs. After the mood I lost 60m. When I use chirp I can't seem to load all memories, as a master of fact I cannot download ft817nd(US)... It fails loading the last memory block. Any way to get 60 meters back? [chirp_users] Chirp vs. Win8.1

I was trying to help a friend work through some problems with Chirp on Win8.1 the other night. (We were actually swapping info back and forth at the bottom of a shared g-doc we were using for logging net check-ins, so not the best medium to convey meanings.) She indicated she'd used Chirp in the past but that it was broken after the switch. My first thought was that the 2.3.0.0 (counterfit-tolerant) driver wouldn't work under 8.1 but a found a short thread in the Chirp archives that suggested it does work and that shouldn't be an issue. Also, she said the Baofeng SW that came with the radio/cable does work, so presumably that installed a driver that works with the cheap cables. I asked her if she'd trying running Chrip *after* getting the Baofeng utility working, but that's where we ran out of time. I'll pursue it further with her, but thought I'd ask here in the interim for any gotcha's that might crop up with Chirp and Win8.1. Benton 29may14 -- KF7QLP benton(a)siletzbay.com

[chirp_users] UV-82 question....

Hi….new to the list, with a question. Using CHIRP 0.4.0 with a UV-82 that I recently purchased. In the .img file there are two tabs on the left, Memories and Settings. I found a wiki that pretty well describes the various columns along with how to set things up in Memories. However, there are quite a few things under ‘Settings’ and I have not found a wiki or other reference to those. Does one exist? I realize that many of these settings are not things that would be in need of change, but others I’d like to know more about. A simple example would be under ‘Advanced Settings’ is ‘Scan Resume’ with the options of CO, TO and SE??? There are other things as well, but that’s an example. Commercial radios I’ve used before have scan resume setting in number of seconds. BTW, I have no intention of screwing up the radio by randomly changing things which aren’t well defined or explained. I am new to this list and probably am making mistakes that are already well known! I bought a cheap cable running the 2303 chip, which I found later is not so good. The drivers on the supplied CD seem to work OK, but when I go to use CHIRP, I get an "Error Occurred" message saying "could not open port COM3: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified." Is there anything I can try here, or should I just shop for a better cable? Richard

When entering my one and only repeater frequency, offset, TX, RX, etc., the language changed from English to Chinese. How do I change it back to English? Thanks for the feedback. My thoughts are that by putting the entire application in Java, then there would be no platform dependencies at all. ( wishful thinking ) . I will be working "in the dark" so to speak as where I am spending my summer will have no real internet, just occasional email. Thus I will be bashing code without exterior support. I am presently using Win7hp, Chirp and FTDI cable and everything works great. However, I am learning to use Linux 16 / Mint with the Cinnamon Desktop. I have downloaded the FTDI Linux 0.4.16 driver and some instructions I don't understand. The problem is, I have not a clue of where to go from there. Is there anyone out there that can help me get this driver installed and etc.?

Hello, I am trying to load 18 Baofeng Radios and I am having a very hard time. Currently, I have tried both the Live disk and the program on the pc hard drive. I am getting the message that the “radio is not responding”. Also, the drop down options under the “Radio” tab, the option to write to the radio is grayed out...so even if I could connect to the radio, it does not allow me to write. Hello, I just discovered Chirp yesterday and I downloaded it to check it out. I read the entire FAQ at http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/FAQ, but there is nothing there about the application not starting up. I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro 17 with 16GB RAM, running Mac OS X 10.9 with all software up-to-date. After downloading the ZIP, I dragged Chirp over to the Applications folder. I then opened Chirp and went down into .../Applications/chirp-4.0.0/Contents/MacOS and ran "chirp" from there in a Terminal window. On all three units, the last version I tried (a while ago) was v0.3.1. It was terribly slow, and I had issues with tasks like.. resizing the window. I basically shelved it, and ended up using RT systems software inside a VirtualBox Windows 7 instance, which proved faster. By like, a lot. I recently tried Chirp again (to read a chirp file for import to a website that lists area repeaters that I maintain) and was notified that 0.4.0 was available. I downloaded and installed it. I've tried it an all three platforms mentioned above. 1st issue: still very slow once you have a file with any data in it. 2nd issue: tasks like changing the size of the window are .. glitchy. 3rd issue: it crashes (repeatably) when I attempt to open a file. Not the opening-a-file part, the "browsing to where the file is located" part, usually before finding the file to even bother trying to open it. I guess my query is this: If this is multi-platform software, are there test users / power-users using this under OSX with any success? I have two problems. When I do "Download from Radio" I see the clone bars work and see the light on the radio, but nothing is loaded in the sheet. When I look at the "Upload to Radio" it is grey out, so I am unable to create a sheet and load the radio. What am I missing? The radio is a UV-5R. Hi everybody, I’d like to know, if anybody managed to program the UV-82 using chirp (or the daily build 20140428) on osx 10.9.2. I read that one might or might not have to disable apple’s own driver for FTDI chipset. I’ve been googleing the topic for a few days now and have not found a way to make it work on my mbp. The system report will tell me that a USB-Serial Controller is there: USB-Serial Controller: Product ID: 0x2303 Vendor ID: 0x067b (Prolific Technology, Inc.) Version: 3.00 Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc. Location ID: 0xfa130000 / 6 Current Available (mA): 500 Current Required (mA): 100 When I try to "download from radio” I have four choices in a dropdown menu, each of which will give me an error message: - /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port error: An error has occurred - Radio did not respond - /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem error: An error has occurred - could not open port /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem: [Errno 16] Resource busy: '/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem' - /dev/cu.NoZAP-PL2303-000013FA error: Radio did not respond - /dev/cu.usbserial error: Radio did not respond Any ideas? HOW you reply to a mailing list message depends slightly on what kind of email system you are using. With the vast majority of email client software and most webmail systems, all you need to do is click on the REPLY button. Most email systems will automatically insert the correct mail list reply address, which is chirp_users(a)intrepid.danplanet.com -- if your email system doesn't insert the correct address, then most likely it will use the individual email address of the person who sent the message you are replying to. You can easily check to see what address your email system put on the reply message. If it put chirp_users(a)intrepid.danplanet.com as the TO address, you are fine. If it put some other address, you have a choice of how to fix the problem: 1) You can delete the incorrect address then manually type or copy&paste the correct address chirp_users(a)intrepid.danplanet.com into the TO address block or 2) You could try using REPLY ALL instead of just REPLY. In this case the email system _should_ insert both the mail list address _and_ the individual address; then you just delete the individual address (If REPLY ALL doesn't work, you are back with just Option 1) The other thing that most email systems will do when you click REPLY (or REPLY ALL) is to automatically quote the entire message you are replying to. It is always polite to trim any unnecessary text from the quoted text in your reply. This is especially important is you are subscribed to the mail list in Digest mode -- NEVER quote an entire digest message in your reply! If you are subscribed to receive individual messages, you should still delete the extraneous header and footer lines that are automatically added by the mail list and the email system; you should usually also delete any lengthy portions of the original message that are not related to your reply. For example, in this reply, I deleted header information such as the date of your message and the repeated copy of the subject line, I deleted the footer lines that tell the reader which mail list this message was posted to (the mail list is going to add those footer lines back in, and there is no need to have them twice); and I trimmed your introduction and signature, leaving only the questions you asked, because this is what I was replying to. Your original message was short enough that I didn't really need to trim those three lines, but I did that as part of the example of trimming the original text to just the significant part for a reply. Whether or not you will see your own message back from the list depends entirely on your email system -- the list is definitely going to send you a copy of your own message -- the vast majority of email client software and most webmail systems will include that message in your inbox. The one significant exception to this behavior is GMAIL (which apparently is what you are using). I have a Kenwood TM-271A that has been MARS/CAP modified to handle frequencies that are outside the Amateur Bands The frequency is 15x.5625. and the Kenwood MCP-1A is able to resolve and program correctly however chirp template for this radio complains about the band and steps being in error :( Is there a workaround to disable the test and enter the frequency as needed or is a update to the python required to address this ? Jim, Thanks for the clarification and the procedure. I am sure you are right that most of the time people don't need to change that setting. In my case,many of the radios I have programmed were for our local high school amateur radio club and they are being used by students. We didn't want to give them the option to accidentally be transmitting out of band. So being able to set the band limits is an important feature. Hello everyone, I am still having issues programming my IC-91A with Chirp 0.4.0. I’ve also tried chirp-daily-20140428 with no success. On a whim, I found an old version of Chirp: chirp-0.2.2 and it worked! I was able to download my frequency list, and modify the IC-91A memory. I submitted a post the other day looking for some help but it didn’t get posted so I am trying again. I think I sent it from the wrong email address! I had a problem trying to updoad a file to a new UV-5RE+ that a friend just bought. I had previously used this file to program 14 other units of the same radio. Another complication is that I had done it on an XP computer buy am now using a Windows 7 machine. I got an error message that the “Settings” had not been transferred because the image number didn’t match the firmware number. I looked in the file and found where those numbers were listed but could not change them. I did eventually figure out that if I downloaded the data from the new radio to a new file, the firmware number came with it. Then I could populate the rest of the new file with data and it uploaded with no problem. Now, if this item gets posted, I will be a happy camper. Best Regards, Dennis

Hello and thank you to all who have given their experience here. The issue I am having is that on my CHIRP I have the OFFSET at .600, and the DUPLEX either a + or -. However when I upload this to my radio it does not take the settings. My radio reads OFFSET 00.000 and DUPLEX "none". I just finished uninstalling, and reinstalling, CHIRP. When I did my initial upload from the radio the settings in CHIRP show the correct OFFSET and DUPLEX in the radio. I tried to find this already reported, but did not. Adam T. I have kenwood ™-241 that is able to handle frequencies that are able to be resolved correctly in the Kenwood MCP-1A programmer however chirp complains about the band and steps the frequency is 15x.5625. Mageia Linux is an community based system, using RPM packages similar to Fedora Quite a bit more user friendly & good long term stability I was having trouble installing chirp the methods described weren't working, I posted a thread https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7508&p=47820#p47820 probably the wiki could be updated?

while reprograming a group of 15 units. one would not read/write-communication error. only variable was radio-cord in same position. tried usual messing with plug-twisting/push/pull etc. no luck. put small squirt of electronic contact cleaner followed by brief air burst, into socket holes. unit now read/write with no problem suspect possibe corrosion. unit had been in use for about 6 months 73, jimstuder kf8sj

Okay. I've Tried the IC-2200H with and without the cloning mode and from VFO. I get these messages: Right after powere up VFO mode Failed to communicate with the radio: I can't talk to this model From Clone mode Failed to communicate with the radio: Out of sync with radio Clone or not Clone mode "Icom Detect" Unable to get radio model I am using the RT Systems USB-29A cable marked as Maxton IV8 which is, according to RT Systems, ompatible with the IC-2200 and the IC-2300 (no 'H'). I can program my Baofeng just fine with its cable. So. Just what are the instructions for Chirp with the IC-2200H? Thanks! 73 Gary W8RGB

I'd appreciate suggestions from Baofeng users about mag-mount dual-band 2m / 70cm antennas that are working well. Of course a perfect antenna will be a great find, but if I have to prioritize, these will do: * One choice >$60, one choice $60-$120 * Zero or minimal scratching * Perfect retention at air speeds <80 mph * 2m probably slightly higher priority * Receiving probably slightly higher priority for now * At least good transmitting My unit is a UV-5RE Plus. Hi All I am using Chirp on Puppy Linux Slacko (Slackware) I am using the source code of Chirp. In Slacko I have the full Python development system. The only other thing I had to install to get Chirp to work was Python Serial. I started up Chirp by typing into the terminal window chirpw. I was able to down load the image of my IcomV82 into Chirp. I noticed on the Repeater2 column that the callsign was W2DNY C. Is this normal? Shouldn't the C be a G? I clicked on the WD2NY C in the Repeater2 column and a drop down list opened which only contained WD2NY C and the other repeater callsigns that I have programed into my radio. All the callsigns had a C at the end none with a G at the end. These Callsigns are in my Repeater1 column which a C makes sense. Again shouldn't the Repeater2 callsings have a G for gateway. The memories in the radio for Repeater2 all have a G in them. It looks like Chirp did not read the repeater2 memories of the radio correctly. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
