This violates the style rule that all module-level imports must be at the top of the file, so I added it as an exception for this file. [Zach Welch <zach(a)mandolincreekfarm.com>] Allow cpep8.py script to make exceptions (#2355) This patch enhances the cpep8.py script with the ability to ignore a list of style rules on per-file basis. There are cases where it may be too disruptive to eliminate all style issues, so this mechanism allows the style checker to enforce the remainder of the style rules. The new --strict option will cause the script to ignore the exception list. As a bonus, this change improves interactivity, so --verbose will cause the name of the file to be printed as it is checked (rather than printing one long list before it started). The downside: the pep8 module catches KeyboardInterrpt, so it's hard impossible to stop once it gets started. You are correct to use UV-B5. Sadly the new Firmware versions of UV-B5/UV-B6 are not supported by Chirp. There is a patch that remedies this, but as far as I know it has not been added to any official Chirp build. You can use the official Boafeng SW to download the image, and then rename it to the name used by Chirp, import it to chirp, make the changes, save, rename back and upload via Boafeng SW. I hope that Chirp will soon add support for those newer UV-B5/B6 Firmware versions. It seems that the Radio changed its identity marker, and is no longer correctly identified by Chirp. The one line patch floating around seems to remedy the situation. (At least the newer UV-B5 is recognized and fully programmable) CU, Ricsi

Related to #2347 [K. Arvanitis <kosta(a)alumni.uvic.ca>] Attempting to speed up memory editor load times It appears that the memory editor is unecessarily attempting to simulatanesuoly prefetch all memories from the radio twice at startup. This is causing a somewhat signifigant performance hit as the tree view is performing a linear search of its store attempting to prevent duplicate entries (see while loop in set_memory) As a result the duplicate call to prefill was having no effect other than forcing a lookup of the treestore and did not appear to have any other bearing on the application. Another seperate, but related, improvement would be to increase the overall performance of the linear search of the treestore. Bug #2369 [Zach Welch <zach(a)mandolincreekfarm.com>] Add chirp.logger module (#2347) This patch adds the chirp.logger module, using it in chirpc and chirpw. It adds a handful of optional command line arguments to control the new logging features. In addition, CHIRP_DEBUG, CHIRP_LOG, and CHIRP_LOG_LEVEL can be used to control the logging features from the environment. It also makes the version string reusable between the GUI and CLI, and it prints that string at the start of the log file (if in use). [K. Arvanitis <kosta(a)alumni.uvic.ca>] Fixing issues with memory property editor. This patch attempts to address a couple issues with the layout of the property page. Mainly the issues relating to the layout of the table containing the widgets was skewed (on windows at least) where some entries appeared much big than others. The other issue was that the multiple property editor was showing blank entries for no apparent reason. It addresses an issue with the multiple memory editor where the selector of elements which were intnded to be hidden was still being displayed. It adds basic tooltip support to all widgets and not just the extra settings. It also groups elements into two groups (tabs) "general" and "other"; the former signifies the basic radio settings which appear in the memory editor while the later is the set of "extra" radio settings. Is there any place I can upload... say a "serial dump" file of communication between it and some propriety software (named SV83) ? I managed to create a serial sniffer cable, so if I have a place to upload it, then you guys could inspect and add support for it. Heck I think having a dedicated place to upload serial dumps would be great for reverse engineering efforts.

Hello to all. I’m very new to Chirp. I’ve installed the Python package and the daily build that supports my radio the Baofeng BF-F8HP. I’m using the BaoFeng FTDI Programming cable. A USB to serial port appears when I plug it in. When I try to download the radio’s memory, I get the error “Radio did not respond”. Chirp seems to run fine. Could anyone tell me of any procedure I’ve missed or has experience using OS X Yosemite with Baofeng HT’s? David Kickbusch

I'm using a few UV 5 R's on a commercial UHF repeater. The frequency is a bit congested. Here's the problem - The UV 5R seems to hold the squelch open for about 2 seconds after the repeater (and thus the tone) drops. Is there a timer that anyone has found that determines the time that the squelch is held open after the tone drops? This is most annoying to hear snippets of other companies transmissions - especially one digital repeater. Thanks for any input.

Thanks for the ad. Have been a CHIRP user (and donar) for a while now and no issues. Then had my desktop computer die and replaced it with a Win7 64 bit unit. Installed CHIRP and I thought everything went fine but when I tried to upload the new frequency list to the radio (a UV-5RA thats about a year old) it keeps telling me that "an error has occured. Radio did not respond" I have used this same cable and radio in the past with CHIRP with no issues so am guessing that its the computer or OS. Have tried both 0.4.1 and "chirp daily-20150218" found on the BaoFeng site, both with the same results. Ideas? Am volunteering in a ham event tonight and would love to have the radio as a backup for my older Kenwood "just in case".... Thx, Joe A KG7FDX Phoenix

Hi all, I am new in this so not an expert at all. Help will be greatly appreciated. I have two Baofeng BF-F8HP and was successful in modifying the operational range of them. I have extended the frequency range using the following parameters: VHF: 108.000 to 177.000 UHF: 385.000 to 570.000 I have successfully tested both radios to transmit and receive on the following range: VHF: 128.450 to 177.9975 UHF: 385.3725 to 570.4775 I still have to use my scanner to confirm that they are transmitting on that whole range, but the radios do communicate on it. I have used the 108.00 lower range on VHF to try receiving Air Band, but still have to confirm if I can receive on that range. One problem I have with CHIRP is that it does not allow me to add channels on that range which would be very useful to identify by name those frequencies (GROUND, ATIS, APPROACH, CLEARANCE etc.) CHIRP says those frequencies are beyond operational range. I can save those frequencies in memory on the radio interface but I cannot add a name to them. Is there a way to make CHIRP do this, or does it need this added as a new feature? Thanks! When trying to download I get the message: An error has occurred Could not configure port: (5, 'Input/output error') The environment is Ubuntu 14.04, Chirp daily -20150210, cable SCU-18 with power light on, HT in CLONE mode. The Radio box presents port choices /dev/ttyS0 thru /dev/ttyS31 and I have tried many of these but not all, and always received the same exact message. There were no USB possibilities presented. The message said nothing of permissions. I did check anyway and saw: n4lbl@eel:~$ groups n4lbl n4lbl : n4lbl adm dialout fax cdrom floppy tape audio dip video plugdev fuse scanner lpadmin netdev sambashare so that seems OK. The HT's internal code is ancient: from when I bought it in Nov. or Dec. '13. My intention was to back it up before upgrading the code. Hi all, Yesterday we merged a change to clean up the settings interface a bit. It's a relatively minor visual change, but it affected a lot of code, including every driver that has a settings interface. We expect it to all be fine, but given how many things were touched, it would be good to do some extra checking. Below is the list of drivers that were affected. Hi Joe, Richard, List @Jim Many thanx for the workaround. It works. But it would be great to get the new firmware also supported in Chirp for up/downloading from/to radio. Would it be possible to have a checkmark to accept any identity if the radio type is set to UV-B5/B6? Eg. do not care what radio sends, and just go on? Also it would be great to check when a NACK comes back if it is the first byte of the test data. If yes, then the propability is very high, that everything is OK, and that the firmware simply does not accept test data! I will gladly test beta builds. PS: As mentioned earlier, in the mailinglist welcome message a beta download link is referenced, that gives a 404. @Richard I will gladly test compiled code. Did not receive anything to test yet. Hello group. i would like to ask who does the trouble shooting when a bug is reported with chirp. is the bug trouble shooting done mostly by volunteers to find and fix bugs when they are reported here on this reflector. i reported a bug may 29 2014 and have not seen where anyone has worked on finding a fix for my bug. my bug issue is 1665. i have a kenwood tm d-700 A for which i am not able to store pl tones. i can change the frequency, as mentioned cannot store a pl tone. thank you leonard

Hello, I'm using CHIRP with a couple Baofeng UV-B5 radios and both give the same error when uploading: RadioError: Radio NAK'd block at address 0x0f10 ------ Clone failed: Radio NAK'd block at address 0x0f10 Clone thread ended --- Exception Dialog: Radio NAK'd block at address 0x0f10 --- None The radios seem to program OK though, haven't noticed any functional issues. Didn't see any bugs like this listed, nor any way to file a new one, is this the appropriate place ? Running chirp daily from the PPA for Ubuntu 12.04, any other info needed ? ... Niall

Trying to use CHIRP 0.4.1 to program an Icom IC-2200H. All I can get is an error message- "Failed to communicate with the radio: Unexpected response from radio." I don't think it's a driver problem. FTDI cable is recognized by the computer as COM5. A similar cable on COM4 works fine with a UV5B. Should the radio be on any special settings? I tried the Clone mode; that didn't seem to make any difference. Could there be an issue with the speaker port? (Probably outside the scope of this list.) Hi list I have a Boafeng BF-F8+ und a UV-B5. The latter can't be programmed with chirp. It gives me the error "radio did not ack programming mode". The BF-F8+ works with the same cable on the same computer. The UV-B5 works with the Baofeng SW. So I read that the UV-B5 seems to "change identity" according to the menu settings. But I cannot get it running. (tried to set everything to frequency mode) Tried to reset the UV-B5. Changing compander is not possible, as this option was removed from my UV-B5 firmware ... Tried to download the beta from the list welcome message, but only get a 404: http://chirp.danplanet.com/download/beta/ Tried with the last stable Chirp and with a daily from early february. Would it be possible to either try to remotely debug what my UV-B5 is sending and include it into chitp or maybe give an option to ignore the return value from the handset if UV-B5 is chosen? I am quit sure the actual communication would work, if Chirp would not give up on the unknown ACK signal from the handset. I would be very glad if I could use chirp to import the BF-F8+ settings into my UV-B5. I hope that we can work this out together! CU, Ricsi

I'm using the current daily build for OSX and the memory of the 92AD is reading fine but it's not reading any of the DSTAR information in the DSTAR tab. It looks to me like it's hanging on the getting bank information as that is the status message "[0] Getting Bank Information". Both band A and Band B memories are loading fine. It's everything else that is failing. I'm using the PL chip because when I use the FTDI chip, chirp is unable to read anything it just gets errors for every location.
