I've an Baofeng UV82L and have been using chirp to program it without problem. As I've found different repeater / agency frequencies I've been adding them to the end of the table. I can sort them by frequency or name to eliminate duplicate entries but would like to be able to save to the radio in the order that I'm viewing them (probably only by frequency). Is it possible to do this and, if I may ask, how could it be done? //al

Just got this thing and followed directions exactly. Drivers loaded ok from the web. Tried to do the initial READ function under 'RADIO' and I got a error message several times. Volume was set up high. I am considering sending this back because Baofeng seems to be to 'FINIKY' which leaves me to think it may be a source of ongoing frustration. Any thoughts please.

Hi Folks, I've been trying to program my two new radios. I have hit a couple of snags, even though I've tried to read all the FAQs and other info I can find. I will list a few questions below. If anyone has time to respond to any or all, I would be grateful! 1) How do I save complete repeater data to the memory file without having it over-write the previous download each time? I will add data for repeaters from one county, and one band, and it gives 64, total. Then I will try another county, etc., and it saves the second download, and no trace of the first one, listing the new data as channels 1-64! I need to add data for two counties on each of two bands, for each radio, so that I could then, presumably, upload the files to the radio(s). And again, to summarize, each time I do this, it wipes out the earlier one. 2) How do I save the memory file for each radio (before or after I upload it to the radio)? I went to the SAVE or SAVE AS tab in the menu, but nothing happens when I click. Thanks in advance for your help! Jim

A friend just got a new Baofeng UV-5R. When I tried to download from the radio to get the initial parameters prior to programming the radio, I got an error message, "Radio refused to send block 0x0000" I tried using other models of the Baofeng (I had another UV-5R that I had to program as an F-11 in order to work) but it still wouldn't program. I then tried to clone it from my radio and it programmed only 21 of the 128 channels. I've programmed probably 50-75 Baofeng's and Wouxun's with no trouble but this one stumps me. I'm trying to install CHIRP the "Latest Daily Builds" into the CHIRP 0.4.1, and I keep getting the following error message "Error opening file for writing", which keeps happening. I'm having problems programming a Baofeng UV-5R, and I found solutions that required the Latest Daily Builds, but I can't seem to get it to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good day everyone! As fas as I know the famous radio programming tool CHIRP doesn't support this radio, yet. I have managed to read my FT-270 with CHIRP by selecting VX-170 from the dropdown menu. Hello all! I’ve just successfully uploaded a set of channels and other settings to my Yaesu VX-3. Those work perfectly. I then used Chirp to name three banks and select which channels I wanted to populate those banks. When I uploaded again, the radio doesn’t seem to recognize them – when I use the FW and/or BAND key to access them, I get a “NO BNK” message. I downloaded my image back from the radio, just to see if it had properly uploaded – all looked correct. Any hints on how to make the radio recognize the banks I’ve set up. Thanks! Folks, Chirp 0.4 and 20141215 version both seem to have an issue with PL tone setting. When I use the drop down to select a PL for Tone and then a different one for ToneSQL, one of the two PLs is either set to the default 88.5 or incorrect. I’m using a Baofeng UV-5R however find this behavior occurs even when working with CSV files. For instance, I have the following CSV file: Location,Name,Frequency,Duplex,Offset,Tone,rToneFreq,cToneFreq,DtcsCode,DtcsPolarity,Mode,TStep,Skip,Comment,URCALL,RPT1CALL,RPT2CALL 4,N2JDW,147.150000,-,0.600000,TSQL,136.5,123.0,023,NN,FM,5.00,,,,,, I then import it and results in the following: 4,N2JDW,147.150000,-,0.600000,TSQL,123.0,123.0,023,NN,FM,5.00,,,,,, As you can see, the first Tone value was overridden after the import. It should be 136.5, however is 123.0. I find similar behavior when saving a Chirp image files and loading it back it. Therefore this impacts more then just CSV import. Hey guys, I just wanted to say thanks for this terrific program. I haven't used it in over a year, but downloaded the last stable release and without any fuss, it reprogrammed all the radios I needed it to. (I'm trying to standardize the channels on a bunch of different radios/brands..) Does it do everything I want? No, but neither do my kids or wife. J It certainly does more than enough. I also had that problem with the Baofeng UV-5RE plus.I read some of the past listing and found the driver site, downloaded and installed the newer driver (my old driver was several years old and Windows 7 has had some major updates since then).Then I also noticed that a correction had been made on a daily update concerning block NK for 0.001 or 0.100 so I used that daily version. Everything worked fine. It did take me several hours researching the comments to find the suggestions but that is life with computers sometimes. Updates to operating systems can cause significant problems. Anyway, the result is that everything works fine now. George P. Geran

It appears that some models (UV-B5, UV-82, TERMN-8R) refer to Narrow FM as "NFM" and Wide FM as "FM", while others (Yaesu VX-8) appear to refer to Narrow FM as "FM" and Wide as "WFM". When one attempts to copy channels between radio drivers that use different names chirp is unhappy and gives an error for every channel with a non-compatible mode. Should these names be made uniform across drivers? Or am I just misinterpreting the "Mode" meaning (entirely possible). Thanks

I've seen some other postings about higher addresses failing, but none about block 0 failing. This is a "27 menu" model of the uv-b5. Downloading works fine. All fail with the same "Radio NAK'd block at address 0x0000" error.

I received this new radio today. I tried to use my old (August last year NewOld version) and had the same 'could not connect with radio'. It did nothing, but the new Daily download version not only does the same, but it also keys up the transmitter when attempting to clone, and still fails.

Am getting this error message "Upload finished, but the 'Other Settings' could not be sent because the firmware version of the image ( Ver B82S26 ) does not match that of the radio ( Ver B82S28 )." Am trying to upload info to a Baofeng UV-82X and getting this message. It's possible my CHIRP version may not be new enough. Seems to still transfer the frequencies and labels. Not sure what is NOT being transferred because of this. Does anyone know what needs to be done to get rid of the error message? Or what is not getting transferred? Anything to worry about? So I tried to setup a UHF simplex channel with CTCSS/DCS on one of my UV-82’s (well frankly any “privacy” type code/tone). No matter what combination I tried, my BF8-HP (listening to the same frequency but no codes programmed) picked up every transmission. Also, the UV-82 would receive anything I sent with the BF8. The most I could accomplish was the the UV-82 would receive only the carrier and wouldn’t produce any of the audio. Downloading the daily build changed nothing and I even copied the settings from a working repeater channel and just removed the offset and still nothing. Is there a bug? Am I an idiot? I was able to program all my repeaters just fine and the tones are obviously working or the repeaters wouldn’t! Does the software ignore tone settings if there is no repeater offsets? Im doubtful as the LCD displayed the changes? Surely someone besides me wants some simplex “privacy”?

As a new user chirp is still a learning experience. The data that is used in the download sites is old and outdated on the ones that it would let me access. It would not let me look at all of the sites so I can't comment on all of them. The one that I was able to access still has repeaters listed in my area thy have been off the air for at least five years. I realize this is something chirp can not control to a certain extent but they could get a site that is more up to date and dump the sites that are still in the dark ages with their lists. I had some problems trying to down load data but I think it's due to not being use to using chirp so I need more time with the program to comment there. One site I have found that is reasonably correct on their data is Artsi but even they have a few lists that are not accurate but they seem to have more accurate data than most others.radio reference is pretty close on some stuff but has old data on others. The data that comes up when you download chirp and look at what is there is not accurate at all. It doesn't even show the repeater offset on some and on the vhf marine channels some of the channels are not even in the marine service they are public safety frequencies. All in all chirp is a good idea but it really needs some data updating and corrections by someone that is familiar with FCC band plans and repeater inputs and outputs and what frequencies are assigned to what radio services. This would make chirp a really great and very useful program. As the saying goes junk in junk out. Sent from my iPhone

Since I was only working with my radio and the img file was a result of reading from that radio, I started out by naming the columns as they appear in the image file. Needless to say, all of the effort I put into entering that data was wasted, as CHIRP could not read it. So then I did the image file export to CSV and was surprised to see different column headings, different column order, and even new columns that aren't explained anywhere (URCALL, RPT1CALL, RPT2CALL). Once more, I moved my data into this format but in all of the copying/pasting, I managed to get some lines misaligned, so now I don't trust it. I had originally configured my chirp email address as pctek(a)pacbell.net <mailto:pctek@pacbell.net> , but that kept bouncing back, so I created a new Gmail account and thought I set CHIRP to use that address. I receive the following message: "There was an error during import no attribute power in struct" Anyone have any idea what I might need to do? I have a problem with programming a Baofeng UV-5R radio with the CHIRP program. I get the following error message: Radio refused to send block 0x1ec0 I am a lowly accountant and do not understand a lot of the jargon and abbreviations commonly used by radio enthusiasts. I previously programmed 7 Baofeng UV05R radios in the past few months without any problem. So . . . is there a solution to the error message? Thank you very much! HMC KK6GGH

[chirp_users] Yaesu FT60 connection problem

I am using the cable from RT Systems to attach my FT60R to the system. When the cable is connected, Port /dev/ttyUSB0 is displayed. If the cable is not connected, no port is displayed in the radio box. However, using the method for which the RT System windows program uses, I get a time out on the Download procedure. The method used is turn the FT60R on holding the [Moni/TCall] key. The dial is rotated to CLONE. The [FW] key is pressed so CLONE blinks and comes back. The OK button is selected and the transfer should take place. Any ideas? Jim

I suggest that the file for the latest stable be replaced by a Daily Build that was an excellent one. Better yet would be to ELIMINATE a stable build and just have a link to Today's latest Daily Build. It would eliminate 99% of people's problems with CHIRP. Because of the problem with the stable build existing, people get frustrated and eventually get fed up with CHIRP. They have a point, the stable version should at least be changed to a version after the Baofeng firmware change that introduced incompatibility. CHIRP is an excellent program, it deserves much better. Eliminate the stable build and just have a Daily Build. Those builds are stable enough. 73 David N1EA

When using the graduated squelch settings under Service Settings, what is the correct setting for Carrier Squelch Setting under Basic Settings? As an alternate to setting Menu 32 to SITE, what effect would setting ANI-ID to OFF have? Or are there different, quieter alarm sounds besides 119 (32 still set to SITE, but surrounding folks wouldn't know you just pressed Alarm)? Work Mode Settings is confusing to me since I don't see all of the CHIRP settings reflected in my radio. MR A and MR B show 51 and 41 respectively, yet my radio loads 27, 20, even after battery swap. The VFO A & B: similarly display last used freqs and not what CHIRP has. Display A or B:is set to B, but I don't what that means since A & B: are always visible.
