[chirp_users] UV82 firmware incompatible

I have successfully programmed UV82 in the past, seven in fact with the same .img file. I just bought 3 more and tried to upload to the radio but got error message that the Firmware version doesn't match that of the radio. I could Download from that radio and saved that file. Maybe upgrading CHIRP to the latest version 0.4.1 would help but didn't, so also ran Daily Build install hoping but no luck. I still get the same error message when trying to Upload and if I now try to Download, I get a message that it's the wrong model! I can still download from my older UV82. I see in Settings>Other Settings it shows the Firmware Message 1&2 which is different for the old and new radios but they are greyed out so can't change it. Older radios Firmware Message 1> ver Older radios Firmware Message 2> B82525 New radios Firmware Message 1> N822411 New radios Firmware Message 2> N822411 What do I do? Please help. John

Hello, Would anyone be able to offer help with the Yaesu FT-60 and Chirp? For some reason I am getting an error message about communication between the radio and software. I tried programming my Icw32a with a variety of memory channels, but when testing I found that only the vhf channels took. There are no Uhf frequencies in memory. Am I missing a specific step ?

Hi Everybody, I just want to let you know that CHIRP does not work with the ICOM IC-W32E (european version)! This is due to the different model-ID. The W32A uses the hex id 18 82 00 01 while the W32E uses 18 82 00 02! So no response from a W32E appears... I found this after using chirp for a while with no problems with my W32A but getting no connection with a friends W32E. Even the direct cloning with the icom cable was not possible, but gave us the hint to the different modell-id. After changing the line with _model = "\x18\x82\x00\x01" in the ICW32A.PY-file to _model = "\x18\x82\x00\x02" everything runs smooth now! So as this is easy done, but just a quick workaround it would be nice to see a proper definition-file and the IC-W32E added to the list of compatible gear... This was also subject of issue #280 on http://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/280 but I don't want to go to much inside development as I allready have a long list of things to do! So maybe somebody else has the capacity to put things together.... Regards, David

Wondering if I am the only one having trouble getting Chirp to work with my new laptop. It is an i7 running win 7 pro and using USB-3 rather than USB-2. Device mgr tells me the correct driver is there and its ready to go. When I try to read from the radio, it always tells me there is an error and cant read/find the files. When I fire up the older Vista machine the programming works fine using the same cable and radio. So in short I am starting to think there is a compatibility issue when using USB-3. Anyone else with this issue??? *Jim S*

Hi list, Using Chirp Daily 20150513: Just finished programming a batch of Baofeng UV5R N5R2401, N5R2405 and N5R2407. All of these units working fine. Also using Chirp Daily 20150513: download UV5R radio image from HN5RV01 deleted existing frequencies imported same .csv freq list used on above batch no errors at all reported all seemed OK with import and upload HN5RV01 Unit transmits ok; transmitted audio ok, RX indicator blue background light works ok when there is carrier received or when hitting the monitor switch, just no receive audio. Tried set of headphones in rec jack -- still no audio. No "Channel Mode" voice with power-on-self-test, either. Tried the same with Daily 20150530, no errors, no problems indicated; no change - no rx audio. did keyboard (menu/40) reset, then did reload with Daily 20150530, no errors, no problems indicated; no change - still no rx audio. Just purchased the Lexien / Luiton LT-898UV which I have told is also known as a Jetstream 270. I have attempted to program using Chirp and the factory software and it comes back with a response of. "Failed to Download from Radio- Radio Refused Program mode" I have uninstalled the Prolific drivers installed the older and newer versions and tried both. I have tried the latest build of Chirp, have tried the factory software, have tried as a Lexien, and as a Jetstream and nothing. I know the software works since I have programmed Baeofeng radios in the past. Does anyone have any ideas ?

Hi all, I am confused about a couple of things when programming this radio via CHIRP. 1) Is there a way to globally set it so that the channel ALPHA name that I create will display on each channel? Right now, the only way I’ve found to do that is from the radio itself and I have to do each channel one at a time to get them all to display the text instead of the frequency. 2) Are there any plans to make it so we can change the function of the A, B, C, and D keys on the microphone keypad? Hi all. This has been my experience with a UV5R. Maybe a little help????? When I plug in my cable and turn on the radio (UV5R), _it comes on in transmit mode_, and stays key-down. As soon as I _send the updated data_ to the radio, it will fail, but the _radio will come out of transmit mode . . . USUALLY_ . . . BUT sometimes I have to send the data 2 or 3 times before it comes out of transmit mode. Then, _after it's come out of transmit mode_, it will accept the data OK. So, I try to tune to a frequency that most likely will not be in use when I turn the radio on, that way, when it starts up in transmit mode it won't interfere with someone else's QSO. Also, and I'm not sure what chipset is in my cheap cable, I had to just roll the driver back to the previous driver BEFORE it would work. The next update made it fail again, so I rolled it back again and stopped it from updating the driver again and it has worked OK ever since. I'm curious whether anyone has yet tested Chirp with Windows 10? Or determined if anything about Windows 10 such as its security systems would get in the way of the common practice of using an old version of the Prolific software driver.Or, for that matter, any other specific compatibility issues with common Ham computer applications. As many of you are likely aware, Microsoft is taking the unusual step (for them) of providing a FREE upgrade from Windows 7sp1 or Win8.1 computers (for consumers anyway) to Win10. Indeed, by now you may have already seen a new icon show-up in the lower right corner of your computer encouraging you to make a "reservation" for this upgrade when it becomes generally available on July 29. That free upgrade is only available for a year. If you haven't upgraded by then, your out-of-luck unless you wish to pay. The rub, of course, is what gets "broken" by this upgrade. For the average user, I'm guessing not much. But us hams tend to have some esoteric needs... Dave

Folks, I’m having a similar issue as below and filed the following bug: http://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/2605 I have tested both Genuine FTDI and Prolific USB->Serial cables with no success. The USB->Serial chips are detected by both Windows 7 and Mac OS, however when Chirp sends out the 0xE0 detection frame, there is always a 0 byte response back when I would have suspected at least a byte for the Model ID according to the code. I have tested Chirp all the way back to v1.1 when the code log says T70A support was first added. My assumption is that it must have worked back then, however this is not confirmed yet. It’s odd that both cables resulted in 0 byte reads and now I’m suspecting either the T70A has a different protocol or newer manufactured firmware that changed the control codes. Has anyone validated the IC-T70A *ever* worked with Chirp? If so, can you share your experience and possibly the serial number and purchase date of the radio? I have tried this with the radio just turned on. I have tried this with hreadio in the CLONE mode. I have tried this with the radio in the CLONE OUT mode. I never get any response. I think perhaps I have a bad cable - sigh! One other clue is that the cable makes the radio SCAN whenevr I plug it in normally I have to fiddle with it and reinsert it numerous times before it will stop scanning and sit at a fixed frequency. The supplier assures me these are not the fake chips but genuine FTDI chips he is using, and charged a premium price for it. The cable came from Mark Dunkle, KJ6ZWL. I will relay all of this information and see if he can send me another cable that works. Hello to the Group, Like several other users have posted, I too have a Kenwood TH-D72 portable and just recently started using Chirp. In addition, I also have had problems sending an image to the radio in Clone mode. I see where issues 2455 and 1611 address this problem. After playing with the radio and seeing what is in it after the upload, I'd like to add several pieces of information. 1. Both issues 2455 and 1611 appear to me to be the same issue. Yes, the newly progammed 2m channels don't transmit (same as non-functional). However, when I look at the memories in the radio by band, the newly programmed 2m channels show up on the UHF side of the radio, not the VHF side. Apparently, when you try to transmit on these channels, the radio thinks these channels are out-of-band and will not transmit. Otherwise, the channels appear to receive OK. 2. Before programming these new channels, I completely read all the memories in the radio, both VHF and UHF channels and saved the image. I then added several new VHF channels to the image and then programmed everything back to the radio. When everything was finished, the new channels were added in the correct memory position but on the UHF side of the radio (as described above). However, the original channels were in their original positions and worked normally. There were no problems with transmitting on the original VHF channels. 3. If I didn't know anything about the inner workings of Chirp, I'd probably conclude that: - The write (clone) process works OK (the original channels went back to where they were and work OK). - The process of taking the image and putting the contents on the wire to the radio works OK. - Something in Chirp is classifying VHF frequencies as UHF channels at data entry time. Upon upload to the radio, the radio is instructed somehow to place these entries in the UHF side where they will fail instead of the VHF side where they belong.- The process of taking the image and putting the contents on the wire to the radio works OK. Software in use: Chirp 0.4.1 and nightly build 20150513. PC is running slackware 14.1 (64-bit). Hope this helps the developers fix the bug. 73, Mark, N2MH

I downloaded a cloned copy of the radios program from the radio,copied the program I wish to install into the downloaded copy,but when I tried to upload it back to the radio,got an error report that stated "unsupported firmware version:NR-323F8HP-1". Hi Folks, Has anyone heard reports of an Icom IC-T70A or IC-T70E working with Chirp? I'm having difficulty programming this radio, however can program my Baofeng. I have a Genuine FTDI USB cable. Unfortunately, I keep getting an error downloading from the radio. "Failed to communicate with the radio: Unexpected response from radio". As device manager says the COM port is ok, I'm suspecting something else is going on. The USB serial cable is properly detected by my Mac OSX v10.10.3 as a USB serial device. The device properly appears in the OS as /dev/cu.usbserial-A9030T4G. I tried a couple versions of Chirp and used this device path. In my tests I tried downloading from the radio both by specifying Icom / IC-T70 and then Icom / Autodetect. Both setting resulted in failure to communicate with the radio. The radio then begins to cycle memory channels after the download fails. I have tried placing radio into clone mode by pressing V/M/C and Power button at the same time, then pressing the PTT button both before and after clicking Chirp Download from Radio button. I have tried without placing radio into clone mode. I have attached the Chirp debug log from a recent daily build 2015-05-02. I tried an older build from a year ago from 2014-12-15 with the same results. I have also noticed a few bugs around this radio and wondering if perhaps an older Chirp build works correctly. This HT was sold at the Dayton Hamvention as a 7 watt HT with a 3800MAH battery, In trying to program it as a UV5R I could read from the radio but could not install a new image on the radio as I was getting a Unsupported Firmware Version N5R3407BFP3-23XX error. This radio's drivers are experamental. I had found out the chip version of the Baofeng programming cable was needing the Prolific 2303 TA drivers which I got from the Prolific web page and these worked ok. I then discovered you must download the radio as a Baofeng BF-F8HP image and this solved all the problems. Hello For whatever reason, sometimes when building a memory list to upload to my UV-82c, items such as TSQL and others will change on their own. There are several columns that do not pertain to values I want to add to my radio. MY question is: If I hide a column, can values be changed without my knowledge in a hidden column? Regards, Don

Morning All, I downloaded the daily build that was made available this morning. No luck - the Import from stock config option is still nowhere to be found. Here are all of the choices under the Menu options: CHIRP: Get Help Online / About / Services / Hide / Hide others / Show All / Quit File: New / Open / Recent / Save / Save As / Import / Export / Close Edit: Cut / Copy /Paste / Delete / Select All / Move Up /Move Down / Exchange / Properties / Start dictation / Emoji & Symbols View: Columns / Hide Unused Fields / Smart tone modes / Change language Radio: Download from Radio / Upload to Radio / Import from Data Source / Query from Data Source / Channel defaults / Stop Help: Report Statistics / Enable developer functions The only greyed out choice is Stop (under Radio). KK7DS Python Runtime R10 is installed. I was able to successfully download info from RepeaterBook, so Chirp is partially working. Just no sign of stock config anywhere. Using Yosemite on iMac. Had the SiLabs and Yaesu FT-1D with SCU-19 cable working ok. Took a long time and should have written the procedure. I installed the Prolific drive for Baofeng radio. I got that working OK. Then the SiLABS UART stopped ’talking’ to Yaesu. Using latest daily build of Chirp. Looking at info on mac, I see the drivers for both Prolific and UART under USB selection Anyone have any ideas - I have re-installed the UART driver. I can see various selection when I connect CHIRP under Ports. Both the SLAB_USB-UART and USB-Prolific show up. I have also used the command under terminal: sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1” I am not very savvy on Mac but need help suggestions??? 73, Dennis

Hello, I downloaded and installed the software. I am able to access the radio but I need help with all the column headings. What is Tone mode, TSQL, DTCS, none and cross? Tone ToneSqu DTCS Code DTCS RX Code DTCS Pol MN, RR, RN, NR Cross Mode, tone->Tone, Tone->DTCS, DTCS->Tone, ->Tone, DTCS->, DTCS->DTCS Duplex none, -, +, split, off Offset Mode FM, NFM Skip If I just want to listen to a channel and not talk on it want should the above setting be set to? If I want to use it for my RR job what do I set the above too? I know the frequencys. What is type "BM" and mode "FMN" on radio reference mean? Thanks for your help. David

Evening, I'm trying to find the "Import from stock config" functionality in CHIRP and I don't see it anywhere. The only 4 choices I have are: Radioreference.comRepeaterBookprzemienniki.netRFinder The CHIRP FAQ page indicates "These are canned frequency plans, some of which are built into chirp." Where do I find this "Import from stock config" functionality? Please advise.

Hi Folks, Has anyone had success with the IC-T70A and Chirp? I tried downloading from the radio today using Chirp daily, however received the "Failed to communicate: unexpected response from radio" message. I have a Prolific 2303 cable. I believe this is an authentic cable because the Windows default drivers are auto detected it and are installed properly. I also tried down reving the driver to the 3.2.0 version (which is been said to support counterfeit chipset) and I keep getting an error downloading from the radio. Windows 7 device manager says the COM port and Prolific driver is ok, I'm suspecting something else is going on. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks, Nick KB1GZN

My problem, and I understand it's a pretty common one, is when i plug the radio in and try to load into Chirp from the radio, my computer doesn't see the radio. I've tried with the cable that came with the radio, cables I've purchased on line with some sort of little CD that's completely useless, and even with the cable from RT Systems. I have two of those, by the way, and neither of them works. I've tried this on a PC laptop running Windows XP and an iMac running OSX. Nothing works. Downloaded the latest version of Chirp, got the trick utility that's supposed to make it all work on mac... nothing. Is there any hope here at all? Stan Rarden KK4LLR

I spent two weeks trying to find a driver for my Baofeng BF-F9 V2+. I determined that I had to use one for BF-F8hp. I was lucky enough to find one. Chirp worked great. My Computer crashed and I have not been able to find a working driver since. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Any help will be appreciated. Carl Payne payneconsultant(a)bellsouth.net
