I fixed my problem with CHIRP and the BAOFENG UV82L. I found that CHIRP would work using either of the UV82 models. Cause was probably finger problems more than anything. I am trying to program a Baofeng UV82L. I compiled a csv file with all the necessary parameters but if I try to import it I get a "UNKNOWN FORMAT" error message. If I open OPEN the file from within CHIRP and I select either UV82HP or UV82 format, none of the information is there. There are some new columns in the Img file but those columns do not get generated in CSV. In general the IMG columns, the memory Properties column list, the CSV columns and the WiKi column definitions are not in sync. I especially would like to use the Power column. 1. In the config file, if I change the column_order_rmemoryeditor column list to the values in the column_order_dstarmemoryeditor list, or add the missing columns to each so they are all inclusive on both, would that make the IMG and CSV identical? And also make the Generic csv the same? 2. And how will I be able to edit the Power (no values) and Skip (skip options are blank and S, no P) Thanks Walt N6STM

Filippi Marco worked on issue 3281 (Copying Special Channels), and I was under the impression it would be in this build. So I installed the 20160209 build. But my FT857D is no longer able to download to Chirp. I checked communications with another freeware product, and COM3 is working by directional. Attached is the Chirp log. 1. Is 3281 issue fixed in this build? 2. What is my current issue with the inability to download? As an FYI, I previously attempted to load a Boafeng software program for the GT-3TP, which did not work. But I did the full install of Chirp afterwards. Thanks for you help again. Walt N6STM

[chirp_users] Connectivity issues with Puxing PX-A6

Hello, I’ve got a Puxing PX-A6 and a cheap USB cable from China. Now I’m trying to make this setup work, but I’ve faced some issues, so I’m looking for help. The cable seems to have a PL-2303 inside, at least that’s what its USB IDs tell and it got picked up by pl2303 kernel module. Now, it _almost_ works. I use Puxing PX-2R driver with CHIRP. When I tell CHIRP to download data, it fails with `Failed to communicate with radio: Radio is not responding`. If I immediately try again, then it downloads successfully. I also noticed that when I connect the radio to my laptop, it starts transmitting (as in transmitting radio signal), likely because the cable plugs into the headset port. But it stops as soon as I open the tty using `socat` (`socat -x /dev/ttyUSB0 -`). When I exit `socat` it starts transmitting again after around 4 seconds. I believe this 4-second interval is the key to CHIRP succeeding, as it always succeeds when I hit “download” while the radio is not transmitting either immediately after the first attempt or immediately after exiting `socat`. I also tried setting up a pty using, again, `socat` to sniff the protocol. In this case the radio stops transmitting as soon as `socat` is started and, of course, using the pty, CHIRP successfully downloads channels from the first try. Well, my ultimate goal is to make their own programming software work (at least once, as I need to adjust some settings and after that I’ll happily stick to CHIRP), but it doesn’t. I thought, that understanding of what’s going on with CHIRP might help me figure out what to do next, so any ideas are welcome. Thanks. -- Кирилл Елагин

[chirp_users] Can't upload to Leixen VV-898

I was able to download the settings from the radio and edit them, but when I try to upload the list back to the radio, the Vendor and Model fields (but not the Port) are greyed out and nothing happens if I click on OK. This is with chirp-daily-20160201 on my MacBook (I had to install the Prolific driver--amazingly the cable appears to have a genuine chip). I was able to successfully read and write using the vendor's software (from miklor.com) on a Windows computer. Am I missing something here? Bob, N7XY

When I export to CSV, it does not export the Special Channnels. 1. Is there a way of doing this? 2. If I created a line item in CSV with a LOC of "HOME HF" (as an example), will it import into my IMG file and hence Upload to my radio (Yaesu FT857D)? Thanks for your help. Walt

Does anyone have good instructions for programing a Kenwood TK-260G, including needed cable and/or Driver. I tried and only got an error that the radio will not go into program mode. Any help or phone number of someone that has a Kenwood TK-260G that I can call would be much appreciated. I am a volunteer fire fighter and am trying to reuse these radios for a new fire district. As has been noted on here before, FTDI has updates that make non FTDI usb to serial adapters found in many programming cables inoperative by rewriting the device ID so moving it to a new computer won't help. I guess FTDI is at it again as mentioned in this TechRepublic article: http://www.techrepublic.com/article/ftdi-abuses-windows-update-pushing-driv… By sending out updated Windows drivers during automatic updates breaks counterfeit cables. I'm trying to program a Jetsresm JT270M. I have two main issues: 1. If I remove a memory from my list it remains a lighter color and I can't find a way of re-using that line. 2. This radio has what is supposed to be a unique number to call it back over the air. It works. The problem, all radios come out of the factory with number 1000. [chirp_users] How to set CIV address for Icom Radios

In trying to use the new bank memory support in Chirp on my IC-7000, at first I was unable to get Chirp to work. I found that Chirp seems to be using a fixed address of 0x70 for the radio. My radio is set to 0x58 due to my screwdriver controller, and so Chirp didn't want to talk to the radio until I temporarily changed the CIV address on the radio. It would be nice if Chirp would allow changing the address it assumes the radio is on. I cannot find a bug report for that; should I try to submit one?

New to CHIRP, haven't used it yet. Also new to my radio (Yaesu FT857D) and a new General. So forgive me if I'm not asking any intelligent questions. I have two 1. Can a power setting be set for an individual frequency via the image file? As an example, if I wanted to use a MURS frequency, it has the 2 watt limit. Is this an option that can be added? 2. I have a CAT/Bluetooth cable which I would like to use to connect to my radio through CHIRP, is that possible? If so, how do I accomplish that? Thanks for your help Walt

Hi, I've been finding that if I click all the tabs I can get them all populated with data. Although the terminal reports: ERROR: Unable to find selected: iter must be a GtkTreeIter Curious. It still finishes with the status bar showing that it is still fetching the last memory and locks up. Only way to continue is to force quit I did notice the last memory displayed is 797 although the count in the status bar goes up to 849. hmm. [chirp_users] inexpensive Dual Band Mobile radios?

[This is sort of off-topic, but hinges on CHIRP support for the radio] Howdy, I'd like to get a recommendation for a dual band mobile radio for a new ham that will (probably) not use it a whole lot. But it needs to work reliably enough, even if not a lot of features. Actually less features is fine, that is just less stuff to not understand & less to forget between uses! :-) Mounting a UV5R in a car doesn't seem like a good idea. Can anyone offer anything good or bad about any "inexpensive" mobile dual band ham radio, including the Leixen VV-898 or Jetstream JT270M (apparently the same radio). It is one of the few cheap Mobile units I see on the list of CHIRP supported radios. http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home Amazon reviews seem fairly ok, especially for $99. I'm interested in a CHIRP-supported radio. This is intended for an 1997 Jeep Cherokee, and a small radio is probably a better match. It does need to be a dual bander. If the cost gets anywhere even near $200, I'd just recommend the Yaesu 7900 or Yaseu 8800. But for this situation, I'm open to hearing about cheaper alternatives that I might be able to recommend until this new ham grows into the "sport". Just a follow-up to my previous message on the above. Today's upgrade to 20160128~wily~1, as offered through Ubuntu's Software Updater, was installed as expected and the correct version (CHIRP daily-20160128) was displayed in the About CHIRP pane. It seems that the exercise of searching the computer for any remaining Chirp files and deleting them before re-installing the latest version (via the Synaptic Package Manager) did the trick. Jim; I have had a VV-898 for a little over a year. Great little radio, I have a little Mirage B-34 amplifier for it. Mine developed a display problem a few months back, I can still use it, just can't see the frequency. I'm hoping I will run across another used one. I like it, I would by another one. I have a Leixen 898, and It seems to have a not very selective receive front end. I used it as an in-home local repeater monitor and I received some out of band land mobile radio stations, including a busy local ambulance service, while tuned to my local ham repeaters. I replaced the Leixen with the 25W KT-8900 and the problem went away. Granted I live in an RF rich environment (Southern, CA area(), but for this reason, I advocate purchasing one of the KT-8900 variants for under $100 on Amazon. it's approximately the same size, seems better built, is equally portable, and less susceptible to interference. Wonder why the data I upload to my radio is changed when it downloads. Specially: When I upload the tone of 100 MHz, when downloaded from the radio, the 100 MHZ is changes to 88.5 MHz. Thanks for the advice. I removed the existing installation of chirp-daily using the Synaptic Package Manager (despite the fact that it was reporting the installed version as the latest 20160116~wily~1). I then searched for any files on the computer that had a name including chirp using the Files app and deleted them using terminal and sudo rm (-r) in the folder where they were found. (Some seemed to belong to previous installations of chirp.) I then did a fresh installation of chirp-daily listed under Amateur Radio in the Synaptic Package Manager. Chirp-daily now reports the correct (and latest) version in its About window. It remains to be seen what happens when the Software Updater offers the next version. (I have the chirp-snapshots ppa listed in Other Software in the Software & Updates panel.) Hopefully it will now report the version installed. Hi, I was trying to get to /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/chirp/drivers/ic9x.py in terminal but the chirp folder did not appear to be in the python2.7 folder. I tried ls -a but there were no folders listed in the output. ls -ad should have shown it but again nothing. As long as I can find it in synaptic I can have a look at the code.
