Though I have not tried it, I believe that following the instructions in the post below --- To unsubscribe --- and using the email that you wish to unsub as the sending email --- should do the trick. You can do it yourself in a few keystrokes. Hi, I am new to this and trying to program my Yaesu FT60R. I have an iMac running OS 10.12.2 (Sierra). I purchased a 6 in 1 programming cable for the FT60R (among many other models) from Yihao Weiye Electronics Co. LTD, via Amazon. I have installed KK7DS Python Runtime R10 on my Mac. I have tried downloading a few FTDI drivers. I can install and open Chirp-daily 2016-12-20, but not chirp-daily-20170126. When I connect the programming cable to my powered USB hub, System Information recognizes it as: USB Serial Controller product ID: 0x2303 vendor ID: 0x067b (Prolific Tech. Inc) version 3.00 plus other info… I connect radio to computer via cable, power up radio into clone mode, select “download from radio” (both with and without opening new file), then select Yaesu and FT60 from the popup menu, which lists the port as: /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART. I push the PTT key for a second until my radio shows “tx” then release. After a few seconds chirp gives me the message: “An error has occurred, Failed to communicate with radio: Radio is not responding. I've tried this multiple times. Any suggestions or assistance would be much appreciated! Thanks Rick Rottman

[chirp_users] Any tricks to programming Kenwood TM-D700 with Chirp?

Hi Everyone, What does it take to get the DM-700 to cooperate? I have a new USB-63 cable from RT Systems, downloaded the driver first and successfully, but I cannot download any data from the DM-700. Com port is 8. When downloading from radio, when I click 'OK', nothing happens at all. I don't know if this is a clue, but the second time I try to download, I get an error message "could not open port COM8: [Error 5] Access is denied." I have previously used Chirp on a Kenwood TM-V71A, and for a couple of Baofengs. Thanks, Rich Holtman

I have a TYT TH-9800 which does quad band (10, 6, 2, 440) FM that also has AM RX on 118-136 and 27 (but TX FM). It is mobile sized. Hi all, I am new to the radio stuff. I would like to search the messages for an answer. I Bought a Baofeng GT-3TP for my own personal radio to use on a licensed frequency that I use for volunteer work. I am trying to program it with chirp latest nightly on Debian Linux using the BF-F8HP like it says in the wiki but no luck, I get a radio didn't respond error with a Prolific cable and an incorrect Model selected error with a ftdi cable. Is there any suggestions to fix this? It does work using the UV-5R driver but then I only have 2 power modes. My friend bough the same Gt-3TP radio and had a UV-5R previously and he is having the same problem. Thanks in advance. Jason

Have both Baofeng UV-82 and UV-82X. Chirp unable to connect to either. Older driver, 3.2.0. installed. and shows up as working in the device manager. When trying to read from the handhelds I get error message "Could not open port Com 3. [Error 2]. The system cannot find the file specified." Interestingly, the Baofeng supplied software, UV-82 Series Program Software (VIP version), can connect via Com 3, though it usually takes multiple attempts (repetitive communication failures) and will read and write the memories but will not allow me to save any data. Any hints as how to get Chirp to work would be much appreciated. Thank you, Steve WB2KXC

I have a gt3tp, and my cable would not plug in deeply enough and hence I got the same problem. So I took a razor blade to the inside corner of my cable. When I plugged in afterwards there was a distinctive snap. Worked like a charm afterwards. Try starting chirp from a terminal with the command chirpw -v and see what the errors are? The live CHIRP CD makes things easy. Also this cable ends the Prolific problem, but since you're using Linux that's not the problem. The problem I was having programming a Baofeng BF-888s on a Mac was resolved with the help of this group. I finally gave up and returned it to Amazon. I took the advice from a member of the group and ordered the Baofeng BF-888 Plus which worked fine. I had no trouble programming it; it downloaded and uploaded as it should on the first try. I assume the first Baofeng BF-888s was defective. One good thing about Amazon is how easy it is to return items. They even paid postage to return it so there was no cost to me to try it out the first one. A downside is that many people have reported getting returned items rather than new when ordering. I suspect the first one, which I used to start my thread, was a returned defective unit. It came with the battery fully charged, the battery and radio were not in little plastic bags like my new one, and there were a couple of minor scratches on it. I wish to thank all who answered my original questions. They helped me track down the problem. I also appreciate those who develop Chirp. As a Mac user, I don’t have many (any?) other choices for programming my radios. Thank you. Ed KV4MI

[chirp_users] transfering from one Baofeng to another problem

Hi, I have done this before, but now I don't know what I'm doing different. I have a Baofeng UV-5R and a Baofeng BF -F9 UV2. I started with the UV5R and someone gave me a CSV file, and I imported that to my UV5R. Then I actually imported that same file into a Baofeng BF 8HP for my son. And I believe that I imported the same file to the BF-F9UV2, but I have to select the BF8HP for that radio. All three have been programmed, so I did it somehow. But now I am trying to export the BF-9UV2 and import it into a UV5R, actually same radio, I had just updated my 9, and wanted both radios to have the same channels. But I either get errors that the files are not compatible, or it hangs, like there is a conflict. I'm doing this in Ubuntu. Thanks, and I hope that this is not as clear as mud. Glenn

I gave up trying to program the Baofeng BF-888s and returned it. I notice Amazon is selling a Baofeng BF-888S Plus which is claimed to be an ”upgrade version” but probably uses the same electronics. The first Amazon review that came up on my browser dated December 28, 2016 stated “It was a breeze to program using CHIRP.” However a search of the chip issues page shows Bug #3651 stating “So basically CHIRP does not support the BF-888s Plus.” It has not been updated in 8 months so I assume that is still the case. Does anyone know if the BF-888s Plus is supported by Chirp on a Mac? Thank you for your responses to my earlier question. Ed KV4MI

I recently purchased a Boafeng UV-5RA. I was able to get the NOAA weather stations programmed for the areas I travel too. But I am having a problem getting the local Emergency Response stations programmed. I have the frequencies but cant seem to pick up the transmissions. I have tried to run CHIRP (old & new ) on my MAC OS Sierra 10.12.2. on a Macbook Pro Retina Intel Core I.5. I disabled the SIP as per instructions in your Mac os tips: (cut & Paste below) but CHIRP still does not run. When I double click on the CHIRP Icon (after unzipping) It flashes like it its about to start but nothing happens. To whitelist a single application (like an unzipped chirp-daily.app): 1. unzip chirp.zip 2. control click on the unzipped application and select New Terminal at Folder. (Don't see that menu item? I have a problem getting chirp to download from a Baofeng BF-888s. I wanted a UHF only HT and who could resist one for $13. However when I try to download from the radio, instantly I get the message “An error has occurred” There is no delay as the computer tries to connect to the radio. I have used Chirp successfully to program a Kenwood TH-F6A and a Baofeng UV5R and am sure the cable is seated securely. I am using the same program, drivers, and cable and selecting the BF 888 radio from the dropdown menu. I tried putting the radio on channel 16 per bug #1441. It didn’t help. Before I send the radio back to Amazon, I wonder if there is something I’m doing wrong. Some specifics: Desktop is iMac running OS Sierra 10.12.2 Using Chirp daily build 20170111 Wouxon cable Radios - Kenwood TH-F6a and Baofeng UV5R work fine. Any help would be appreciated. Ed KV4MI

This is not a complaint but maybe a bug. I program radios for our SAR unit and we have some Baofeng UV5R radios. Using Chirp I programed my 4 with out any problem and saves the data. when i went to program some others they would not program no matter what i did , the popup said a bunch of stuff to include something about firmware? I think i am using the latest Version or chirp. this did this on two different computers. After trying different ways i change to the UV5 vip program and downloaded the data from a programmed radio , and uploaded to the 4 radios that would not program with chirp with out a problem? Hello Jim, Yes, I also have a single cable unlike the Baofeng double variety, and I still get the same message... I have also tried with the manufacturers software that I downloaded from their website, in-fact they have 2 versions..and no luck with either. I have just ordered ANOTHER cable that is specified as THE ONE for this radio...has not arrived yet... lets see what happens with this one! Greetings CHIRPers, I am having problem with a ZASTONE MP-300. I have tried all versions of CHIRP....old and latest version. I have the proper 'Prolific' cable and it works with all other Chinese radios..Baofeng, TYT, Wouxon, etc. but noe the MP-300 When I try to program the MP-300 even when CHIRP suggests trying to use other makes as they are clones of the MP-300, it still cannot communicate with the radio. Hello Tom, Thank you for the procedure, though I am a bit reluctant to disable the SIP installed in the OS....I am not suggesting that there is some malware in CHIRP nonetheless the possibility will always be there. Lets assume I disable the csrutil to allow CHIRP to work, if I re-enable csrutil after I have run CHIRP, will this action prevent me using CHIRP again or will the OS remember that csrutil allowed CHIRP earlier on? Looking forward to suggestion 73's

Hi all! Last night I installed chirp (yesterday's daily, 20170111) on Ubuntu 16.04. I tried by adding the respiratory and running sudo apt-get install... from the command line and also by downloading the tarbal. Both ways gave me a 'locale not supported by C library...' message when I opened it. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone help me with with this? Thanks,

Hi to all, I'm working remotely with a willing user to get a serial log one of this radio (TK-280) and start the development of a basic Chirp's driver. My goal is to make at least a successful download/upload script and parse the general channel data for this model (TK-280), my experience points that making support for one member of the family will make trivial to extend it to the rest of the family; by looking to the OEM software the whole family could be: TK-780/880/280/380/980/981/480/481 Further development (beyond upload/download and simple channel data) will be very unlikely from my side as I don't have a radio at reach to test and hack at this time. *Side note:* I live in Cuba island, sending me a radio is not an option (yet), I must work remotely and some users must cooperate with me in the testing of this driver; I have done that before is hard work but works, the BTECH and brothers radios support for chirp was made this way with the great help of Jim Unroe. [chirp_users] Tone frequencies disappearing

Hello to the group, I searched the FAQ site but could not find this question..I am programming the uv-82hp. When I put in the receive freq, name, tone squelch, both tone frequencies, and so onthey remain in their respective spots. But when I start to input the tones in the next line down, the tone or tones from the previous line disappear. I have to re put them in but the same thing happens with the current column. Greetings, I am running MAC Os SIERRA and have just downloaded the latest CHIRP. After decompressing the file and clicking on the CHIRP app. i get the usual security warning that MAC will flag. After I acknowledge the flag and accept the software download, when I click on the CHIRP icon nothing happens....no CHIRP ! SIERRA already has the RUNTIME installed so that would not appear to be the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks 73's

I really, really am not trying to be rude. Sorry, but blaming OS X is very unhelpful. CHIRP worked fine and now it doesn¹t and this is an OS issue? Rhetorical. Unless someone can assist me, actually, assist, I would just as soon have no response. The idea was to just report a bug seen in OS X. I believe this to be a program (CHIRP) issue. I see no point in changing the functioning of my system for the one ³odd ball² issue. But I thank you for your response. I would be curious to find out if there are any other Mac(PC?) users out there with the same problem. I did not have this issue on earlier editions of CHIRP. Hello Support, I am having trouble downloading the frequencies from my VX-7R to create an image file. I have purchased the programming cable and I also had another cable neither will work. The radio will tell me clone error and the Chirp software will tell me "Failed to communicate with the radio". I have tried different Comm ports and I have tried different USB ports on my laptop. Thank you for your help on this matter.

For each of the problems described below. - Perhaps, it's a bug. - Perhaps, it's not a bug it's a feature. - Perhaps, it's the result of a prior operator error. At this time, nearly all of my channels are either imported from a stock configuration: US Calling Frequencies and NOAA Weather Alerts, or are the results of querying the RepeaterBook database. Each of these channel sets is saved in a .csv file. I create a .img file by: - downloading a .img file from the phone. - deleting all channels creating any empty .img file with appropriate driver information - importing appropriate .csv files into the empty .img - weeding unwanted channels - adding a couple channels - saving or exporting the result to a .img or .csv file One problem is the power column only appears in the .img file. It's missing in the .csv files. Unfortunately, it defaults to high power instead of low power. So, I have to change the setting for each channel from high to low power. Another problem is when I create a new .img using the above procedure. Many menu settings that apply to all channels are reset to their defaults. Then, I have to set them all to the desired configuration. By trial and error, I discovered that I can sort by comment, prefixing each comment with one or more asterisks. This groups the channels by the number of asterisks in the prefix and alphabetizes within the group. Unfortunately, the result of the is that adjusting the channels chosen for the configuration, or changing the comments results in having to change the power and change all the menu settings for settings that apply to all channels. There are a few channels from .csv files that are grayed out and will not import into the .img file. I have tried some experiments, gotten unexpected results, and am confused. Setup: Kenwood D710GA Lenovo ThinkPad circa 2013 Recent (about a month old) Ubuntu install CHIRP daily-20161220 Best Buy Insignia USB to Serial Adapter Cable PG-5H kit (w/PG-5G cable) Issues: 1) I need to connect the radio and start chirp in a very specific order, or chirp won't recognize the radio. That order is: a. Reboot computer b. Turn radio on c. connect radio to computer via PG-5G cable d. wait a few seconds (I assume so the operating system can recognize the serial adapter) e. start chirp At this point - Chirp allows me to "download form radio", and gives me the standard "live" warning. If I do not follow the above order, when I select port/kenwood/d710G and "ok", I just get a blank chirp screen. Now, before I get into the second issue - I should note that Chirp now takes forever as it downloads the data for all 1000 memory channels - when I only currently have about 20 programmed channels. Not a huge deal, but somewhat annoying. 2) I can edit the channels and import csv files no problem, but there doesn't seem to be any "live" updating of my radio! And being that the "upload to radio" option is not available, I have no way of forcing the update. Any ideas?

[chirp_users] programming cable problems

I use the latest version of Chirp downloaded about 10 days ago. It worked well and did all the programming I need for the Beofeng uv5r, (different cable) Btech UV 2501-220. I had a small computer problem and after correcting the computer problem I could program the Btech UV 2501 but the programming cables for the UV5R have a problem. The one that I used over and over now puts my UV5R in a transmit as soon as i plug it into the computer. The other cable gives me an error message that says the Commport (1-8 ) wont work. What do I do. Thanks for any ideas Dave KD0TUN

They now sell a 7 inch display for the raspberry pi 3 that lets you bolt the pi to the back of the display. It’s a touch screen. Load Chirp and away you go. I take mine in my car on long trips.. get a 12 volt to 5 volts converter and you have a great portable programmer.. I'd love to build a raspberry pi powered chirp programmer with a 2 line LCD and a few buttons. I can Do the hardware build and a Menu system easy enough. I just need to be able to run chirp and read / write images using the command line.
