This has been preventing proper console output when running in the build system, making it harder to debug failures. This adds a CHIRP_TESTENV override environment variable, and always sets it from the test runner since we should always have interactive output from it. Related to #5237 [Dan Smith <dsmith(a)danplanet.com>] Remove unnecessary test tools After #5237 these are no longer necessary and duplicative. [Dan Smith <dsmith(a)danplanet.com>] Add tox.ini for running tests Tox handles venv creation and management of setup install for running tests. Since we have a venv required already, this just makes sense. Now, instead of: ./run_all_tests.sh You can just run: tox Assuming you have tox installed (pip install tox). You can run individual test groups like this: tox -e unit tox -e driver and still pass arguments to the driver tests per usual with: tox -e driver -- -d Icom_IC-2200H I'll be working to make the build system use tox for running tests with better isolation and hopefully more repeatability. #5237 [Dan Smith <dsmith(a)danplanet.com>] Some fixes to run_tests First, in r2787 we made the BruteForce test do RadioFeatures validation on a memory, avoiding a failure if the memory did not validate. For some reason we still required that radio.validate_memory() pass for any of those tests, which doesn't allow for the radio to ban quirks in the tests. This makes us not fail if the radio rightly fails to validate. Second, we were modifying the memory in do_mode() so that once we passed FM in the mode sequence we were always trying freq+100Mhz. Depending on how we ran the tests (i.e. which order we hit the modes) this would sometimes fail. This makes us copy the original memory so we're stable throughout the modes. Related to #5237 [Dan Smith <dsmith(a)danplanet.com>] [icq7] Add validate_memory() for sub-30MHz AM requirement This driver has a requirement that anything under 30MHz be AM. Validate that in validate_memory() so we can properly handle cases where that won't work. Found in the pursuit of #5237 [Dan Smith <dsmith(a)danplanet.com>] Remove dedicated silly rptbuild setup handler This just makes setup.py more complicated and there's no reason to build this as a separate package. Just build it as an additional script on the main default build. I imagine other Baofeng radios do also, so this provides an easy means to specify supported characters for different models.

[chirp_users] programming issues

9-19-2017 I am using Chirp and a TYT USB cable to program a TYT-9000D 2 meter ham radio. Software and USB cable work without any issues. I have tried MULTIPLE times to use same version of CHIRP and same USB cable to program a QTY-7900D and a QTY-8900D. I have NOT ever been able to read the QYT radio's. Neither model. The software will appear to start to read the radio and then drop out. Screen shows either comm. Error or says radio would not go into clone mode. By the software and cable working on the TYT-9000D, in my mind that clears the software and cable. IF there were any issues with the software or the cable, I don't believe I could use the combo on the TYT-9000D. I am open to any suggestions as what to do. [chirp_users] TS-2000 SUB BAND EXPORT

1. Does CHIRP support the export of the memories on the SUB band or only the MAIN band? 2. Will there be further development on the TS-2000 in the future? I see that it us a"Live" radio, but being visually challenged CHIRP makes modifying setting on y various radios MUCH eaier. I can't speak for all, CHIRP beat the tar out of a flashlight and handheld magnifier. Thanks to all the developers that have worked to make this such a great tool!

Could not get Debian packages to install on Lubuntu. Installed Debian 9.1 Some kind of nannyware protection layer would not allow sudo. Back to Linux Mint 18.2 AMD64chirp-daily Still looking for a way to ID which USB port I am plugged into.I ran "download from radio" for ttys0 - ttyS10 and got the same message.No USB at the bottom of the menu, ends at ttyS31.

I know it is something I'm doing wrong but I can't get the Btech UV-25X4 to program. I can read the radio, update the templete and upload to the radio but it doesn't overwrite the display so my new channels only show up in position 4 on the display. The default channels remain in position 1-3. If someone has experience with this radio, please contact me offline or share a working file that I can compare. Thanking you in advance. Greg

Got a stable Linux system running. Nice and crisp and smooth, no molasseses or foot dragging. It takes only 25 seconds to boot up! Lubuntu - give it a try... https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/GetLubuntu Anyway I got past the permissions error, but now still have an error message. Error shows after turning on radio and clicking OK. See attached screen shot. Could not configure port:(5,'input/output error') I still have not found a way to ID which ttyS* I am plugged into. Rick

Problems sending as Yahoo mail is pegging my CPU usage in Firefox on Mint 18.2. So I switched machines. The platform is an AMD 64 dual core running Mint 18.2 (all software updated) The system is not stable it seems and still having troubles even after updating yesterday. I think it has a nasty, CPU and network never quiet down. I think I found my mistake dialup is not dialout. Anyway I need a stable system first

[chirp_users] Changing R-CTCS and T-CTCS for a memory channel

I have multiply Baofeng radios( UV-5RV2, UV-5RE, UV-F9V2+). I am looking for a way to change these values from the keypad only. I have tried but it always reverts back. Any help is appreciated thanks -- Arnaud Protin

Got to the UV5 “Menu” and use arrow to go to menu 22 “MDF-B.” Hit the “menu” button again and arrow to “NAME.” Hit mane to confirm and “EXIT.” Now you have FREQuency display on “A” with a name of its channel on. Just did it on mine…kind of nice. Just remember whatever is displayed on A channel is probably different than what is selected on B. (Unless same channels are selected.) I've tried setting it using the keypad as well as changing it in CHIRP. Does it need to be the same in both (radio and software) before I start? Also, if it's uploading the names, why do the names not come back into CHIRP on a subsequent download from the radio? One more question, I have the 97 firmware on the radio so would it possibly not load / display any names if some are 7 characters? CHIRP supports 7 but as I understand it the newer firmware only allows 6. Thanks. Did you happen to set the Memory Display Format using the keypad. It would seem to me CHIRP is not set to the same values and is therefor changing the values (as it should). Look at these CHIRP settings... I added names to the previously saved channels and added a ton of channels from the included files. When I uploaded the configuration to the radio, the channel names do not display. When I download the new configuration from the radio, the channel names were not present. So it's definitely not sending the channel names to the radio. I have channel A set to display names and I have tried with B set to names or frequency but it doesn't change the outcome. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Most radios don't support this in their internal format, so within Chirp you can only enter comments on Chirp CSV files. [chirp_users] Cannot connect UV-5RA with Mac

Total N00B here - well not really, I was WA2HEP back in the 1960’s. Everything has changed! My son gave me a Boafeng UV5-RA transceiver and I’m trying to connect it with chirp using the Baofeng USB cable that came with the radio. I’ve installed several driver files recommended on different forums, the latest being the one recommended by Baofeng, the Prolific Technology driver. Here is an excerpt from the Mac System Report: USB-Serial Controller: Product ID: 0x2303 Vendor ID: 0x067b (Prolific Technology, Inc.) Version: 3.00 Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc. Location ID: 0x14200000 / 9 Current Available (mA): 500 Current Required (mA): 100 Extra Operating Current (mA): 0 chirp does not recognize this driver, in fact it only sees the Bluetooth driver. I do a lot of work with Arduino, and I know the USB ports work properly. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling chirp, but no joy, it just isn’t seeing the USB port. I’m using chirp-daily-20170714.app which seems to be the newest version on the website. I’m running OS X 11.3 (High Sierra). Any help would be welcome. Walt

Or just use Windows 10. The BF-F8HP is quickly recognized and programs easily. Reading some reviews before I bought it mentioned that the CHIRP/App and Programming cable wasn't working yet. So I held off on buying the Programming cable. Then after researching a bit more I found this: Application Security in 10.12+ As of 10.12 (Sierra) the UI for disabling app security was removed. The functionality is still there, but must be enabled from the command line. To whitelist a single application (like an unzipped chirp-daily.app): 1. unzip chirp.zip 2. control click on the unzipped application and select New Terminal at Folder. (Don't see that menu item? Instructions to enable it <https://lifehacker.com/launch-an-os-x-terminal-window-from-a-specific-folde…> ) 3. run this command in the newly opened terminal window: spctl --add $PWD Alternately, you can disable them for your entire system, although this has security implications that should not be ignored. Run this command in a terminal: sudo spctl --master-enable If I do the above will it work? If so... then I'll buy the Programming cable. Again... I'm new at this. Any tips on running the CHIRP App/CD and Programming cable with my above listed Mac OS?

I now have a couple Kenwood TK-880H's that I'm using for 70cm Ham and GMRS (I'm licensed for both). What does it take to get the TK-880H added as a supported radio? Not specofic enough What operating system? Is the cable driver installed without an issue. If you are using windows usualy down grading the driver to ver 3.2.0.0 solves many problems. I have successfully programmed several hundred memory channels on my Yaesu FT-7900 using CHIRP. Each memory channel is displayed as “memory address and LABEL". I want each memory channel to display as “memory address and FREQUENCY" instead. Is it possible to select / control this behavior through CHIRP ? Do I need to edit my file to clear all labels and re-upload? Thanks for anyone’s experience here. Jerry AB3SX

Thanks Aubrey, you are right. Has to be BTECH not Baofeng. I finally tumbled to that but my forehead was dented and hurting by then. After that change the UV-25X2 showed up. Thanks!

Have a new Baofeng UV-25X2. When I open Chirp, check USB Com port, get com 4 but when I go to Radio/Download from Radio - and tab to Model it only lists about 12 models and none of the Series X or UV-25X2. I went to Chirp web site Faq's and tells me to update to latest Daily build (we get 07/14/17), which I have and #2 says go to bottom of download page and get development/daily build BUT I cannot find that spot at all, on any page. Help please! If this is the radio I think it is, you should look under the BTech brand rather than Baofeng. The UV-25x2 is listed as a BTech on the Chirp Wiki. Hello Chirp, I recently attempted to install the driver for OS X. It installed correctly to the best of my knowledge. I then installed Python Runtime, then Chirp. I can launch Chirp, but when I try to download an image, I receive an error report. I speculate that it is due to the cable driver. The error reads: Radio did not respond. If interested in having a radio model included in CHIRP, a radio needs to be provided to a developer interested in working on the project. The official CHIRP website is: http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home Here's the procedure for requesting a new radio... If you would like to open a request, you would need to - Go to the CHIRP website. (link above) - Register to the website (upper right corner) - Select the Issues Tab and verify that the request for the new radio hasn't already been submitted. - If it's not found, select the New Issue tab and submit your request. - Check back periodically to review the status of your request. Will CHIRP support the Alinco DJ-X10 Wide Band Receiver some day? If not, is there another program and cable (DB9 or USB) available for it. I have Win-98, Win-XP and Win-7 systems for programming that radio.

OK Chirpers, ran into a wall. I have an FT897 that has had the extended transmit, so I am using the NON US setting on the drop down. I can download fine. I downloaded the memories from the radio and saved that file, modified it and attempting to upload. Followed the onscreen instruction when attempting to upload.Tried all variations of clicking OK and pressing the A (RCV) bottom on the radio. Attempting all the above results in "An Error has occurred could not open comport 17,Error 5 Access is denied on screen And ERROR flashes on the radio. Something I have missed? Randy W4RTT

Hello group, Just downloaded Chirp on Fedora 26 for the first time. Tried to run it from the command line and received the message below: [fred@m5a97r2 chirp-daily-20170714]$ ./chirpw Traceback (most recent call last): File "./chirpw", line 23, in <module> from chirp.drivers import * File "/home/fred/Downloads/chirp-test/chirp-daily-20170714/chirp/drivers/idrp.py", line 16, in <module> import serial ImportError: No module named serial I have had no problems with older versions of Fedora and my internet search hasn't provided any answers. Hi All,I hope this is not a stupid question but should my Icom 7400 (746 pro) work with chirp? The generic Icom 746 seems to be supported but I cannot get it to read my 7400. Do I need to use a work round? Any advice gratefully received. John.
