Re: Canadian Postal Codes (Gord) Use the standard USA/CDN download page. For other countries there are different repeater offsets and transmit rules. In the UK/EU all repeaters & simplex 6m/2m/70cm/23cm are in Narrow Band FM mode only. Different band allocations as well. Re: 2m & 70 cm UK frequency lists for initial programming (Sarvapala Colin Locock) Colin M7CFL Visit the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) website. All Repeater lists and details are fully up to date. Simplex frequencies and are also listed. The RAYNET (in North America we call it ARES) simplex, repeaters & usage rules/allocations are there also and widely in use for emergency traffic and training. Remember the UK/EU Band allocations are very different to North America. Also ALL transmissions 6m/2m/70cm/23cm are in Narrow FM mode only. All repeaters use Tone Squelch. This avoids any interference with the EU repeaters which by the way operate in the reverse repeater offsets to the UK to avoid cross border/country channel interference issues. North American operators visiting the UK/EU when overseas should note their radio allocations. Our radios as built have a wider band Tx range which is not allowed there. One good example is our 6m FM calling channel 52.525 MHz. In the UK/EU it is 51.510 MHz FM narrow mode. No transmissions over 52.000 MHz are allowed as it is allocated for the lower TV band. Same for Asia/Australia/New Zealand. When travelling always check local Clubs for each countries rules. Some countries in the Caribbean (for example) require a temporary call sign issued well in advance and import documents (and fees) for your radio(s). A side note: You can use your North American call sign(s) freely for up to 3 months in the UK/EU. Carry a copy of your license. Hello, I'm new to both Amaeur Rdio nd CHIRP! I see that under the file menu CHIRP list some 'stock frequencies' as well as giving access to external data sources for repeaters etc. Is there a 'stock' frequency list for the UK 2m Band that I can get hold of for the initial setup of my Baofeng GT-5 please? I just received my data cable today and was able to download the memory of my Vertex VX-150 using FTB1050, so I know the cable/USB adapter is good. I tried using VX-170 setting in Chirp to download the memory ... no good. Chirp was reading the memory and the green status line went almost to the end then I received an error dialog box "ord() expected a character, but string length of 0 found" Wondering if it's worth the effort to request the VX-150 be added to Chirp? I have a new Leixen VV-898SP backpack radio and it works OK with the factory software. The problem I am having is the latest version of Chirp won't allow me to input frequencies over 470 MHz. The radio transmits to 470 MHz and receives up to 520MHz. I need to use it to monitor public safety on 470-490 MHz as a receive only radio. I have no need or desire to transmit above 470 MHz. [chirp_users] How to analyse the memory map for a new radio type?

I am a new Ham, and I foolishly selected a radio that is not supported by CHIRP. (Yaesu FT-4XR). I wish to add support for it and its recent Yaesu siblings. I have successfully analysed the serial protocol and I can read and write the memory, but I don't know what to do next. Is there a HOWTO somewhere? If not, I can attempt to create one, but some guidance would be appreciated.

[chirp_users] Mobile/web GUI?

I wish to run CHIRP on a Raspberry Pi Zero W in the field, where I may not have a laptop. I wish to connect to the Pi from a smartphone via WiFi and run CHIRP in a web page. Clearly, I could do this using VNC, but the CHIRP UI appears to be oriented toward a real screen of at least 1024x768 or so. SO: is there a UI that will fit better on a smartphone screen? Another alternative might be to run CHIRP on Android and connect a programming cable to the smartphone's USB port, but my Android skills are weak. I will have the Pi in the field anyway, since it will be running Direwolf. Incidentally, CHIRP is really impressive, and it appears to just work when I run it on my Gentoo desktop.

Hi All I am having difficulties getting CHIRP 20181214 to communicate with *a couple* of Kenwood TH-G71 hand-helds. I am using a brand new BlueMax49ers supplied (FTDI) USB cable. When connected to my Windows 7 Professional (64 bit machine) the driver seems to install fine. (No negative messages etc.) However when I try to use CHIRP (version 20181214) to download from *a couple* of Kenwood TH-G71 hand-helds nothing happens. (no indications of download progress after over 10 minutes waiting). I believe I read somewhere in the CHIRP documentation that there is *no need* to put Kenwood radios into 'clone' or similar mode. I have also tried the same cable on another computer (also with the latest version of CHIRP) and also with 64 bit Windows 7 (Ultimate). I've tried running CHIRP both as a User and as the Administrator. but get the *same result* regardless. Can you please help me to figure out what may be the issue? Hello, I noticed the settings in Chirp for most, if not all the menu settings for this radio. I'm having trouble setting it up, even though I uploaded some channels into it with Chirp. The thing is, I need to set one side for 6 & 10 meter and the other for UHF. Reading the manual only tells me that these things need to be done, but without someone making a video or manual that is like describing the radio over the phone, or on paper with only text, there is no way for me to know which controls do what. Youtube videos say things like this button or that dial, and the manual have graphics depicting which symbol to look for. I have fiddled around with it, but to no avail. Windows 7 and later, have an option when you (right)click on a .iso file, of "Burn image to CD/DVD) (or similar) That is what you need to do to make a bootable CD/DVD from a .iso file.. Obviously, you need to have a writable CD/DVD in the drive to do that. (And the drive is capable of WRITING to that media.) Only after that, you need to address how to access that disk to boot from. 73. Hi, I am a relatively a new HAM. I need some assistance getting over the learning curve in programming my radio. I am using chirp-daily 20181205. I have created a CSV file with repeater information that I pulled from repeaterbook.com. When opening the CSV file in chirp several errors during open occurs. I know these errors are due to my lack of knowledge and understanding what all the columns information that are required. While the total error number is 36, there are basically 4 errors. I have attached my CSV file for review. 1. Line [#] [rtone] could not convert sting to float: D265 2. Line [#] [tuning_step] could not convert string to float: 3. Line [#] [ctone] could not convert sting to float: 4. Line [#] [tmode] ‘TONE’ is not a valid list; [,’Tone’,’TSQL’,DTCS’,’DTSC-R’,TSQL-R’,’Cross’] I would like to learn how to interrupt these errors so I can fix them. What is rtone? What is tuning step? What is ctone? What is tmode? To fix these errors I go to the line number (row) and then to the column label to the corresponding error type. I just don’t know the correct information that is required to fix each cell. Little back ground. My radio is a Baofang GT3 (Baofang UV5). The first step I did in programming my radio was to download the radio image and save it as a CSV file so I would know what format and type of information that is needed to program my radio. I added the information for NOAA Weather into the CSV file and uploaded the CSV file to my radio this went great. I then added about 5 more local repeaters to the CSV file and upload to my radio. This went well too. I repeated this process to program of program my radio and successfully upload about 30 repeater into my radio. So I decided to take the big leap and added another 100 repeater on my state. It at this point of open the CSV file with about 150 repeater that the error message start to display. I have attached the CSV file for your review as it might help in trouble shooting. I would also like to add more repeater in the Orlando area. My goal is to program as many repeaters my state as possible and to have my radio organize the frequency by geographical area with my home area repeaters listed as the lower channel numbers. My CSV is layout as: Column A is Location which is the channel number for the memory Column B is the name for the channel number, while my radio display only seven character, I know only the first seven character are display. I been using location of the repeater as the name. Column C is frequency. I understand this, this information is pulled from repeaterbook.com Column D is duplex, this is either a “+” sign or “-“ sign or blank, this information is pulled from repeaterbook.com Column E is offset, is mainly a 5 or 0.6 base on the offset, this information is pulled from repeaterbook.com Column F is Tone, I do not understand, but it always seems to be “Tone” or blank Column G is rToneFreq, I do not understand, but I pull this from repeaterbook.com Column H is cTomeFreq, I do not understand, but I pull this from repeaterbook.com Column I is DtscCode, I do not understand, but it always seems to 23 Column J is DtscPolarity, I do not understand, but it always seems to be NN Column K is Mode, I do not understand, but it always seems to be FM Column L is TStep, I do not understand, but is always seems to be 5 Thank You in advance for your help with in getting my radio program by correcting these error so I can upload this file into my radio. Hi, I imported the frequencies for the CB channels, which apparently the TYT TH 9800 will receive RX only AFAIK, into a CVS file for later import. Since CB is AM, would it be right to put AM in the column that usually has FM in it? Thanks. Sent From My Tabletop

Problem solved. After a bit for framing about I was able to uninstall Chirp. I had to use several different methods but I "got her done" Then I reloaded and using the file tab I opened a "new" file. Then the radio would download to the program, I modified and uploaded. Later that same day I was able to upload to another FT-60. While I certainly do appreciate all the interest and advice I am led to note that those responding to a request should thoroughly read and understand the original post. For example, I specified all the test and trials I had done only to have about half a dozen "helpful" replies ask or suggest that exact procedure. Once or twice it was an effort to stay polite. Hi, I suppose anyone here could do this, but I think another Blind HAM would be more enthusiastic regarding my request. The manuals for technology typically do not describe the buttons and plugs, and even though I have watched some YouTube videos on it, there too, they rely on the viewer seeing the controls while they use them. I'm hoping someone here with this radio can either type out the controls and a description of its location on the radio, or even do a podcast on this radio, because I'll be getting one from Santa. Hello,I will be getting the TYT 9800 with a programming cable.I have programmed my Baofengs with Chirp, so I know how to use the program in general.I'm wondering if I can import the .CSV file for any of my Baofengs into Chirp when I have downloaded from the TYT, or if the Baofeng radios have settings that won't sit well in the TYT.Also, this radio has 6-meter and 10-meter, and I can look at Radio Reference, but does anyone know if generally, there are any local frequencies that are in these bands?Thanks.

Radio: QYT KT8900 (no "D" - just the KT8900) CHIRP Version: daily-20181018 (latest I believe) OS: macOS 10.13.6 (but shouldn't matter in this case) In CHIRP, under Settings > Work Mode Settings you are able to specify "MR A channel" and "MR B channel" as the default channels your radio starts on (assuming the VFO/MR mode is set to Channel). This has worked for me previously - but a while ago something changed. I don't have an exact timeline - in the last 6 months or less I believe. Screenshot for reference: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mt458zbn8t8zx74/Screenshot%202018-11-13%2010.34.1… MR A channel setting is still "respected", but no matter what I put in MR B channel the radio starts up on channel 1. I tried changing it to other channels (and saving then uploading) multiple times but there is no change. When I change MR A it gets applied, but not MR B. Any ideas? I went back and grabbed the oldest .img file I had (from May) and it is still happening, so I don't think it's an issue with the image file. Anyone with a QYT KT8900 that can test this as well? Bottom Line: Frequency off just enough to be annoying. I programmed my NEW FT-70D using chirp and had issues with the frequency being slightly off. Hi Phillip, Chris here. I don't know anything about Apples so I might be wrong... If you've only got Bluetooth in a Connect menu then doesn't that mean that no hardware (wired) ports are currently available for data Tx/Rx? Assuming that a USB connector is available for data Tx/Rx (and not just for charging) then it might need enabling via a setting before it will appear on the Connect menu. Alternatively, the Connect menu might be specific to Bluetooth only. not exactly a chirp issue: i have few uv-5r's one of them can only receive while transmitting the others receive only the bip but not the voice~ what might be the reason besides a defective mic (while checking i found out i cannot manualy change menu 5 from wide to narrow . it remais as programmed - this IS a chirp issue( -- Amnon

[chirp_users] Communication Issues with new UV-5R EX

I just purchased a UV-5R EX off of Amazon and am having trouble getting it to communicate with CHIRP. The same hardware/software config works just fine with my BF-F8HP. I get the problem whether I select Raddiodity/UV-5R EX or Baofeng/UV-5R. This is on linux, and I have the problem with the latest Mercurial commit as well as 20180906 and 20181018. I've also reproduced the problem on Windows, which also communicates just fine with the BF-F8HP just fine. I just unplug the one radio from the mic connection and plug in the other and it starts/stops working, so I'm pretty certain it isn't a driver/permissions/etc issue. This is with an FTDI-based USB cable. The radio reports its firmware version (when holding down 3) as BFS001. I couldn't tell you whether this is correct as it isn't communicating with CHIRP so I'm not getting more than that. I also tried fiddling with the baud settings on the serial device in linux and it didn't make any difference. Has anybody run into issues with newer radios? Is it possible there was a firmware change not handled by the software? I'm happy to debug or test patches/etc if helpful. The radio is just in factory config so I don't really care about losing any settings as long as it isn't bricked. -- Rich

Now I have the MacBook Pro 2018 with USB-C. -I have the Apple supplied FTDI drive & no others. -Only bluetooth shows up in the connect menu -I also am using a new Baofeng. I used to have the UV-5R but now I’m using a BF-F9HP which I understand is supposed to be a UV-5R variant. Do I select UV-5R or BF-F8 in the menu? Can anyone provide a starting point? A few of questions on the above subject when using Chirp:- Can you confirm when setting the ctcss codes for transmit and receive you use the columns 'tone' and 'tonesql' ? I have tried to set these columns to 67.0 but when uploaded to the radio they get set to 118.8. How do I fix this? I am trying to set up my radios to to talk to a friends Motorola T80 using a PMR a channel with a ctcss sub code. The Motorola uses a step of 12.5 on ctcss against an average of 2.5 on the Baofeng. Is there any way to alter the step sequence on the Baofeng? Cheers Calum

Hi all! New member of the list, new user of Chirp and new user of the QYT KT-7900D. Before i received my KT-7900D i read "somewhere" on the internet that a user of this radio had the issue that he can only hear what is happening on the air when he uses the Monitor. Scanning stops whenever there is a signal, but the squelch doesn't open. I thought it had something to do with the radio expecting a receive tone as well to get open the squelch, but i'm not sure what exactly he did to fix this. Was that on this list? I have the same issue. Ton.

I recently acquired a KG-UV8D radio. It has v1.05 firmware. It seems to read the info on the "Settings" tab OK... but changes I make there don't stick. If I edit them, save the file, and then re-open the file, it has reverted to the previous settings. I haven't tested all of those settings, but that is true specifically for the Display Message and ANI code in Key Settings, as well the channel in the VFO x Settings. I have a KG-UV6D radio and I haven't run into this issue with it, so I presume this is specific to CHIRP's support for this particular model. When I first tried this, I was running the 20180614 release, but I installed the latest 20181018 release with same result. Ideas? Dave
