[chirp_users] Repeaterbook _ Unknown File Format

Greetings, First time Chirp user here.. was looking to program local repeaters into my BF-F8HP and made it all the way to the Repeaterbook Query. After exceuting the query I get an "Unknown file format" error. I tried to research this under the issues and found it is an new issue with Repeaterbook changing to cloudfare. It looked like there may be some suggested work arounds, but they were way over my head. Is there something I can do to fix, or is this an issue to get fixed/patched in the future? List members, Let us refocus back into reality and remember why this is happening instead of whining like a bunch of kindergartners (or millennials). First, it is instructive that the official annunciation of the forthcoming deprecation of Python 2 (2.7) in 2020 came on 03 NOV 2008, as instantiated by the link provided as follows hereupon. Moreover, this was an EXTENSION of the previously expected deprecation target of 2015. https://legacy.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0373/ The foregoing notwithstanding, large swaths of developers have either chosen a strategy of ignoring this issue at the peril of themselves and ostensibly the users of their code, or intend to substantiate one of the following alternatives: a) Pay someone to maintain Python 2 for them (it is open source) b) Download and self maintain Python 2 (again it is open source code) c) Do nothing and hope nothing breaks Of course the wisdom of moving to Python 3 is the solution which is expected by the developers of Python and the impeller for Apple Corp to no longer make Python 2 a part of their operating system's default software amalgam. Apple is merely dropping support for Python 2 because the developers of Python are dropping support for Python 2. However, we are wise to again remember that the annunciation of a dropping of support for Python 2 by the Python project was made long, long, ago and should have surely been the cause of migration to Python 3 by developers using Python 2, but alas, that has not occurred in many cases (not just in the instant case of Chirp). Whilst I have great respect for Dan and appreciate and think very highly of Chirp and its capabilities, a development plan for migrating it to Python 3 (in my opinion granted, which you are welcome to ignore or discount) should have occurred many, many, many moons ago. For now, my suggested solution is to install VirtualBox on macOS (VirtualBox is free in cost and is open source, hence also free as in freedom) and install a distribution of Linux that is inclusive of Python 2.7 there within. You could choose to not update Python 2.7 (or uninstall it), and use Chirp in such an environment indefinitely. This solution has no monetary cost and would allow those interested parties to persistently use Chirp on a Macintosh via this virtualized environment. Moreover, I own a Macbook Pro that has VirtualBox already installed thereupon and will likely test this myself in the near future (I am thinking a CentOS minimum install with Python 2.7 and its requisite moving parts to make the current Chirp variant work). [chirp_users] Leixen programming banks

Having seen a few post about the 898, i have downloaded the latest version just. i have a 898s. reading the radio, the memory orders are still wrong and each entry is duplicated. and there is no bank one or bank 2 either. early last year i had a py module to load first, this does give me the banks but its bit unreliable. one issue there is when i save the read data to chirp img, when i reopen it, its for a diferent radio header. any update on this pls.

Hello - please help, I try to use CHIRP to program a new Baofeng BF-F8HP and I receive this warning: "This radio's driver is experimental. Do you want to proceed?" "Due to the fact that the manufacturer continues to release new versions of the firmware with obscure and hard-to-track changes, this driver may not work with your device. Thus far and to the best knowledge of the author, no UV-5R radios have been harmed by using CHIRP. However, proceed at your own risk!" [chirp_users] CHIRP not saving and CHIRP Installation not functioning with upgrade

Hi CHIRP was Installed and functioned ok when programming a Baofeng BF-888S, i.e. frequencies were uploaded from the radio, and then saved as .img and .csv files. Recently, when installing the recommended upgrade, the CHIRP files would not install. A new Baofeng UV-9R Plus was successfully connected to CHIRP using the Baofeng UV-82WP listing, and the frequencies from the radio uploaded to CHIRP ok, but files wouldn’t save in CHIRP (the SAVE Screen wouldn’t appear). Having issue connecting to radio to download and upload frequencies. Sent radio back to rugged and they programed for me. Using Windows 10, Chirp version 20190304. Selected QTY KT8900 and Wacxom mini 8900. Thanks in advance for some advise.

[chirp_users] Icom IC-V82 - Cannot Read Data

Just downloaded the latest version of CHRIP. An error has occurred. "Unable to probe radio band." It works with the official ICOM program. I saw in the archives from 18 days ago that possible patch was being added to the software. However, I have tried the latest version and still get the error message above. The radio works fine with the Icom control software but not CHRIP.

For windows 10. Prior version downloaded fine. This one copied, but could not write. It says error writing the file. It copies, but won't write. This happened before, yet the last build worked, this one didn't. Any ideas why?

Full programming data is displayed Select Write>all Popup asks "Do you want to write the data to the transceiver?" Select Yes Writing the data to the transceiver, and radio is programmed with contents of "test" mcp file So the problem does not seem to be with the cable or the radio, since MCP-1A can talk to the radio. So it appears that Steve and I have exactly the same problem with CHIRP. Thank you! Got it working. I used an earlier version also reset the radio. The strange thing is -on one of the radios, after downloading from radio, the "settings" tab is completely blank. When I try to "import from stock config" the FRS and GMRS channels, the first 14 (all FRS) of them are greyed out With a message "Cannot be imported because tuning step 12.5khz not supported. Frequency requires 12.5khz step" I've also tried copy/paste and import as well as manually entering them in chirp always getting the same message. Any thoughts?

I have a FT-8800 which I have programmed with Chirp. Work mostly fine. I recently purchased an FT-8900 and downloaded the settings from the radio and found that there are no Banks tab, or right memory tab, or Settings tab, which are also missing from the FT-8800 page. Are there plans to complete the FT-8900 file layout to where the banks can be programmed? What would it take to contribute to the effort? I have many years of programming experience, but have no clue as to what is involved with the different rig definition files. Thanks, Doug - W7DRM

Hi Team that's my first email on this mailling list , and nearly my first email on a mailling list :) , i hope i will not do mistakes . My radio is a Baofeng UV-6R I've recently installed CHIRP on a WIN7 Virtual-machine , and on my Mac . In both system i can read and right in Memory tab ( frequency , channel and so on) , no problem. but i see a "Setting tab" , this one is completely blank . i've checked on internet and in all mods ( ie. for UV-5xx) guys are using setting to change freq. range or other stuff .. please find in attache a screenshot any advice? So I got a D-Star, YSF, and am looking to purchase a DMR. None of the two radios in those modes that I have are supported under Chirp. Just wondering if the same is true of any DMR before I buy one this time? From all I am reading, DMR pretty much requires software to program it because it's so complex. TIA, Emilio

Hi, I tried importing a CSV file from my Baofeng into my new radio, the TYT, and after importing it, I read that all the power levels are on low. I noticed that I could use the properties to change it, but that is a lot of fields to do that to. When I open that CSV file in Excel, it shows that field as a 5 if I'm reading the correct field. If that is not the field, then the field with the power is not showing up in Excel. Also, while importing it, it encountered an error on line 160, but that is just one of the CB frequencies I put in, but it is not the first field, it is about half-way through the CB frequencies, I don't know what that is about. Realized it was doing something stupid while trying to run it against the CSV driver (which supports DC->daylight). Some radios were claiming to support steps they don't support because they were taking the full list in chirp_common as a default, which is clearly wrong. This patch changes the default to a very conservative set, which may cause some drivers to no longer accept some frequencies that may be valid because they were not declaring their real supported list. This also uncovered at least one buggy driver that can't support anything other than 5kHz step frequencies (ic2730). Found in the pursuit of #495

I've been happily using CHIRP to program BF-888S radios but today I ran into a problem with the language and frequency step entries (I'm using CHIRP daily-20190217). o When using my stored .img file for the BF-888S the frequencies upload correctly but the voice announcements are in Chinese even though English is selected in Settings. o When trying to manually enter a frequency ending in, for example, .5875, into an .img file, an error message appears stating "Error setting memory: Tuning step 12.50 not supported, Frequency requires 12.50kHz step". Yes, it is a Prolific cable. I have not been able to change the driver. Using a Windows 10 computer. I will search the Internet for how to change the driver. When the driver has been changed, I will report the results about programming my FT-60. Thanks!
