Hi all, I am a little out of my depth with my Chirp connection to my Yaesu FT7800 on my MacBook (OS 10.14)....('had no issues earlier with a Win 7 machine and this cable). Chirp is returning "could not open port /dev/cu.monic-SerialPortService: [Errno 16] Resource busy: '/dev/cu.monic-SerialPortService'" Mac OS Sys info returns: *USB-Serial Controller:* Product ID: 0x2303 Vendor ID: 0x067b (Prolific Technology, Inc.) Version: 3.00 Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc. Location ID: 0x14200000 / 7 Current Available (mA): 500 Current Required (mA): 100 Extra Operating Current (mA): 0 Hopefully a Mac expert can point me in the right direction to debug?? I just received the above radio and am having a bit of trouble with the way CHIRP (or the radio) is handling the channels after programming. The radio seems to work fine, the programming cable connected right away without any driver drama, and the factory software even loaded up and will upload and download to and from the radio, but it's otherwise mostly useless**. Chirp seems to work fine as well as far as reading and writing to the radio, and I was able to import UV-5R files without any problem. The problem I'm having is the order of the channels is scrambled when uploading or downloading. I THINK it has something to do with the separate A and B memory banks. I made sure I selected the "A" bank on the Settings screen, but it still seems to scramble the channels. Earlier today I manually entered twelve local repeaters and numbered them channels 1 through 12, all in Bank A, but when I downloaded the radio to CHIRP, the #1 channel was now #4. I also deliberately didn't give any of the manually entered channels names, but there were channels with names scattered in with the other unnamed channels, apparently from Bank B. If anyone has any ideas I'd like to hear them. ** The factory software has two separate screens for Bank A and B, and seems to work fine moving files to and from the radio. The problem is I can't see any way to enter repeater offset frequencies or -/+ values; if anyone has made the factory software work please let me know. thanks Dave

I have a Baofeng UV-82 and I need to download programming data from this radio. I have the correct cable and the radio is fully operational but when I try to read the radio data all I get is garbage. I know CHIRP works so I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone help me? Hi Chirp says it will work with the IC-T70, but I’m not able to make it work. My symptoms are that I am able to download from the radio without any problem. When I try to send to the radio, it hangs up and does a reset back to factory settings. I have posted a bug, but after a month no one seems to be looking at it. Is there anyone who HAS made Chirp work with IC-T70? Could you tell me the name of the cable you use? Is your IC-T70 an A model or a E model (US OR Europe, I think). What version of Chirp are you using (I’m trying with the latest). Using Mac or PC? Version of Windows? Is there anything special you do to make it work? Thank you in advance. Ken - K4EES

Hi, You guys probably get this all the time, but now it’s my turn. I have been using CHIRP with my Baofeng radios for the past couple of years with no problem. I recently had to upgrade my Mac OS to 10.11. Now I can’t get CHIRP to talk to my radios. I assume it is because the drivers are wrong or something. I have tried downloading the Prolific drivers. No luck so far. There used to be a pl2303 option on the drop down menu when I was uploading/ downloading. It isn’t there anymore. I’m not sure what to do at this point. Please help, I’m begging. Hello Chirp list, Picked up a Baofeng A58S tri-band 144/220/430. There seem to a be a few variations of these tri-banders for sale in UK at present. Using CHIRP daily-20190829 which works with my other Baofeng radios. I am unable to get any of the Baofeng models to read the radio, I either get "Error reading data from radio: not the amount of data we want." or "Error reading data from radio". Are these models new and currently unsupported or is there something else I should be looking at? Thanks, Nick.

I am able to download from the VX-170 but not upload. I take it that the same "clone" mode is used for download and upload. I note that the data for Rx and Tx go through the same pin on the 4 pin yaesu connector. I assume that the Rx and Tx data alternate on the same line because it is shared. Question: When uploading to the radio , does the software need to Tx and Rx to/from the PC to the radio or does it just Tx from PC to radio ? ie is there handshaking involved or just a steady transmit stream from the PC to the radio? tnx Mike VE7SML

[chirp_users] Problems with PMR446 frequencies

At first many thanks for the good work the delevopers have done programming that chirp'y thing. It works fine till today. I just wanted to move a block of PMR446 fequencies, which I have sucessfully entered in my YAESU VX6 and then uploaded it from the radio to chirp. But chirp refuses to cut (that works) and paste (that doesn't work) these frequencies from one to another location: It says, this frequencies requires a 6,25 kHz step which is not supported by the radio. That's correct though, because the step really is 12,5 kHz and supported. But the first channel ist shifted by 6,25 kHz as if there seemes to be a 6,25 kHz frequency grid: 446,00625 MHz 446,01875 MHz 446,03125 MHz … and so on Obviously that plays a trick on chirp, so it won't write such frequencies. Do I have a chance other than program these 16 channels anew at another location in the radio and upload them again? As I'm german and my english isn't quite good, excuse my bad english and answer in simply english too, please. Regards, Ulrich

I download the CHIRP freeware to my Mac and started entering repeater locations. I saved the file on my computer. I have the programming cord attached from my Mac to radio. However, I can't download to my radio because that option is not available (shaded). Is CHIRP available as a website, so I can download my lists from there to my radio? Thanks for your help. Trying I'm trying to get my Baofeng UV5R to talk to my Motorola TalkAbout FRS radio. Initially trying on Channel 5 and security code 5, Frequency 462.6625 and CTCSS 79.7. The light on the Baofeng lights up indicating incoming signal when the Talkabout is keyed. The Talkabout gets a loud noise when the Baofeng is keyed. However, no talk is heard on either. When using CHIRP on a Yaesu VX-170, is it necessary to have the radio connected to the computer in order to modify the programming? I have a VX-170 that I field programmed. I downloaded the radio to CHIRP> I disconnected the radio then tried to modify the programming. Specifically, tried deleting a channel with the "move memory up" option. When I did that a message came up "searching for memory"... ( or something close to that). Then the program got hung up. Is this true for other radios as well ? Tnx Mike VE7SML

Downloaded current version of Chirp today, 8/31/2019. Made a few revisions and uploaded to radio. Memory channels uploaded okay but no longer have access to memory banks. Memory bank names still in radio but unable to access banks or assign a memory channel to a bank. Files saved earlier this year gave access to memory banks. Thanks, Don Cutler KI7IOM

Throwing it out there to see if anyone have experienced something this strange, and specific before I submit an official bug report. Chirp will hang in MacOs upon successfully uploading its settings to these radios. The system will behave as if if the serial device (/dev/cu.serial) isn't being closed properly. Killing the Chirp task will yield zombie Python processes that cannot be killed. A hard reboot is required to restore functionality, and graceful shutdown is not possible. I’m pretty convinced it is an interaction between MacOS and the Wounux CHIRP drivers as I have throughly try to reproduce this issue with a number of different radios, and the hanging only happens with the KG-UV8* radios. I was able to reproduce this issue on two other MacOS system as well. One running High Sierra and the other Mojave. So that rule out it is a fluke of a single machine being quirky. Reinstalling KK7DS R10 runtime did not help Updating Prolific USB serial drives did not help Other platforms tested without issues: Windows 10 Windows 7 in a VM under MacOs High Sierra Raspbian on a Raspberry Pi 3B Radios tested without issues using the same systems listed above: Baofeng UV82HP BTech UV25X4 Yaesu FT-817 Since the Wouxun KG-UV8D+ and KG-UV8E / KG-UV8T, are based on the same parent driver codes, its likely that it is another bug Inherited. What I really haven’t figured out is why all of a sudden this had become an issue, as I didn’t have the hanging problem in the past. It almost seems like it’s something similar to a time counter related Y2K type bug. I’ve BCCed Mr Panye since he’s probably the most knowledgeable person on this driver. Regards, Lynda W5EGL

I'm using Ubuntu Mate on my laptop to run chirp. I keep getting an error: “Errno could not open serial port /dev/ttyUSB0. Errno permission denied /dev/ttyUSB0” I can open a terminal and type in "sudo chmod 777 /dev/ttyUSB0" and it solves the issues for that session. But, the next time I boot up the laptop, I have to plug in the cable, then go to the terminal and re-do the chmod command. Is there a way to get that to stick permanently? Thanks! Monte

Hi I am having problems downloading from radio .I have arcshell5 and an rt cable .They said it would work with a Mac. I have Sierra operating system.I get an error message saying an error has occurred no response from radio. Hi I have been trying to program some new frequencies into Arcshell r5 from 10.13 Sierra and am having some issues with error messages when I select download from radio.I am no techie .See no step by step directions on how to do this.was triumphant that I got my Mac to accept apps from anywhere. So if you have some advice I could use it. I downloaded python and chirp I get error message when I select download from radio.Have RT cable.The salesman said it was compatible with Mac.Do you know?Thank you help would be appreciated.

New to this list and having a problem programming my UV-5RIII - Tri-band BaoFeng, 2m/1.25cm/70cm. I downloaded the latest version of Chirp and did a download from the radio for a template. When entering a 1.25cm frequency I receive a pop-up. (Error setting memory: Frequency 224.820000 is out of supported range, Tx freq 223.220000 is out of supported range.) The radio had a few 220MHz frequencies preprogrammed in memory. Chirp will not let me change one of them to my desired frequencies. When using a new, default template I receive the same error. I've tried importing the desired frequencies from a .csv file to an .img file and get the same error. It's possible Chirp is not recognizing the radio. The UV-5RIII is not listed as a UV5R variant. Although, the Chirp software settings downloaded from the radio indicate the "VHF Lower limit: 136Mhz" and the "VHF Upper limit: 260MHz" Never had an issue with other UV-5R or the UV-82X Any help is appreciated. [chirp_users] DPL data from Motorola into Baofeng UV5R

I have 10 channels from a Motorola SP50 I would like to program into my UV5r (and other radios) using CHIRP I don't see where to input DPL other than perhaps DTCS as it has the 205 number I'm looking for in the pull down menu. In which case, what do I choose for the DTCS Pol field? NN shows up by default. In the Motorola, 205 was the DPL for both transmit and receive. Hi all, Have any of you managed to run chirp on macOS Catalina (currently 10.15 Beta (19A526h)) ? On top of not managing to run the app by simply double-clicking on the app file nor doing "open /Applications/chirp-daily-20190718.app" which spits out : > LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10810 for the file /Applications/chirp-daily-20190718.app. Running /Applications/chirp-daily-20190718.app/Contents/MacOS/chirp also fails : > /Applications/chirp-daily-20190718.app/Contents/MacOS/chirp: line 19: /Applications/chirp-daily-20190718.app/Contents/MacOS/../CHIRP: Bad CPU type in executable > /Applications/chirp-daily-20190718.app/Contents/MacOS/chirp: line 19: /Applications/chirp-daily-20190718.app/Contents/MacOS/../CHIRP: Undefined error: 0 I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that macOS Catalina is killing support for 32bit apps. [chirp_users] Help with linux

I need some help! I recently switched a laptop to Xubuntu. I've downloaded chirp and ran the command to update and to add the daily build. However, when I open Chirp under the linux OS, there are a bunch of radios that don't show up. For example, it doesn't list Radioddity as a manufacturer, the Wouxun KG-UV8D plus isn't available, nor is the TYT UV8000. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks! Monte

The same can be done from the keyboard using Ctrl+up or Ctrl+down, for several rows at a time, and you can use shift to select several rows. Often if you use Excel and try to sort based on one value, it will ask if you want to extend the selection, but it doesn't always sort the entire row.

Well, actually, CSV *DOES* stand for Comma Separated Variables. If anybody uses a different character to separate the variables, e.g. semi-colon, then the data file is not CSV, it is something else. CSV stands for "Comma Separated Variable". So, the data fields /will/be separated by a comma ',' However, the nature of the field contents, and the order they are in, are not part of the CSV format, that IS application specific. Line ends can be whatever the native system expects/can handle, but again, that can cause things to fall over too. CHIRP (and many other similar CSV aware data munchers) are a bit fragile in this respect, but to harden CHIRP against unexpected stuff, would be a major undertaking. I cannot figure out how to get my radio to download to chirp. I have CHIRP daily-20190703 installed and the usb cable going to the mic input on the radio. I just got a new mobile, a YAESU FTM-7250. Since CHIRP doesn't support this radio yet, also I bought a programming cable and software from RT Systems. This afternoon I built a big (100 plus lines) file with a lot of local and regional repeaters and simplex channels and successfully downloaded it to the new radio, and it all works fine. I then saved the file as a .CSV file so I could import it into CHIRP and load it into my other radios. Unfortunately, when I try to import the .CSV file into CHIRP it tells me the file isn't recognized. I saved the file in .CSV format both from the RT Systems software and from an Open Office spreadsheet and neither will load. I haven't had any trouble loading other .CSV files into CHIRP in the past so I'm mystified as to why this one won't work. Any help would be appreciated. thanks Dave KG7HBQ

Greetings, Currently doing the Catalina beta program, and have discovered after installing it, CHIRP will no longer run. Did reinstall the Python Runtime as I have had to do with other updates, but this time CHIRP will only pop up in the Dock for a second or two and then quit. No error messages thrown. Anyone here doing the beta and have managed to get CHIRP to work? — Coyote

I appreciate the answers to my query. The discussion suggests that the cable should work with Chirp, and my findings suggest that it does, to some extent. If someone has figured out how I can either avoid or circumvent the error message and unwillingness of Chirp to work with the data, I would appreciate that. Regarding programming the Yaesu FTM-3200D, I use the RT Systems ADMS-M3200/3207 software & USB-29F cable. The radio cannot communicate with CHIRP directly, nor can it read the CSV file I created from their software using all the correct settings. Tried every method(s) and did not work. Your cable is probably not seated correctly in the radio. You may need to shave some of the plastic around the connector to get it. Common with some cables.
