Once again the old Icom IC-W32E

Hello, please help. I have an Icom IC-W32E radio and the python file icw32.py works great. https://chirpmyradio.com/issues/280 But it does not support 12.5kHz tuning step. Would it be possible to add support for tuning step 12.5 kHz to the PY file?? Thank you Libor

UV-17 Pro, etc.

I recently bought a Baofeng UV-17 Pro and it appears to be more or less completely functional. However, I can not seem to pursuade it to be programmed from my computer. I am running the Linux version of Chirp, latest, and using an FTDI programming cable. It has two lights on the USB end of the cable, and plugs in to the headphone and mike jacks on the radio. When I get everything plugged in properly, a green light shows up on the cable. I start Chirp, tell it I want to download from the radio and give it the correct port. ( The radio is on. ) I click the "Start" button, and the screen on the radio lights up, and then shows a picture of a "computer" along with the word "Program." However, shortly afterwards, that display goes away, and Chirp complains that it didn't get as much data as it expected. Any suggestions? Do I have the wrong cable, something else? Thanks, Brian

This is what I have done. I bought a few sets of 2.5 and 3.5 mm TRS extensions, so now I can connect to anything. I found that the mainstream radios had good, repeatable quality control, but the off brands, such as BTECH and BaoFeng had a lot of manufacturing slop. Seems funny, given that the idea of "mass production" is so old. Errors with CHIRP

I'm using chirp-20240926-py3-none-any.whl on an Ubunto 24.04.1 laptop. CHIRP regards both radios as Baofeng UV5Rs, but the download from one can't be uploaded to the other. Is it possible to have them detected / treated differently? I'm happy to provide any uploads that might help.

Greetings. Tried running the th8600.py file and I keep receiving this message. "th8600.py", line 21, in <module> from chirp import chirp_common, directory, memmap ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'chirp'" I'm not very familiar with the python world, but I have chirp 3 installed and I'm running macOS Sonoma 14.5. Hi All. Firstly good news, the 20240827 version of Chirp previously downloaded, has now installed with pipx without issue. (happy dance!) I took the advice bellow, and eventually (after first renaming/moving suspect folders etc "out of the way", and making sure nothing else broke.) Swamped out any remains of the older Python 3.9.x folders and data hiding in ~/.local I then removed the remnants of those experiments, again checking nothing else breaks. I next got "diverted" by other life needs, so it got forgotten about. The PC earlier today did a big OS (LMDE6) update, lots of lib's and files, and the kernel, after which of course I rebooted as it requested, no issues... I then noticed and read Jeffrey's mail below, so went and tried the pipx install again. Firstly, I'd forgotten I had uninstalled pipx earlier, so had to 'sudo apt install pipx' again, that completed, and appeared to be a clean install of pipx 1.1.0 That took "an age", from what I could tell of all the "stuff" flying up the terminal session, it did a prety good job of refreshing a lot of Python3 as well. (I have the archive of that output if anyone wants to examine it. A little over 11k of plain text.) I then did... (as a user, not using sudo) * * *dave@hp-compaq-sfdt*:*~*$ pipx install --system-site-packages ~/Downloads/chirp-20240827-py3-none-any.whl installed package*chirp* *20240827*, installed using Python 3.11.2 These apps are now globally available - chirp - chirpc - experttune done! ✨ 🌟 ✨ *dave@hp-compaq-sfdt*:*~*$ chirp And it all seems to work again. Chirp reports (using help | about) that it is :- CHIRP next-20240827 on Python 3.11.2 wxPython 4.2.0 gtk3 (phoenix) wxWidgets 3.2.2 MANY Thanks to all who contributed to the investigation. If it was something I did bad, I'd like to know please, If so, it might also be worth updating the chirp install instructions warning others not to do what I did wrong, if that was the case. (The most informative site I found is at:- https://pipx.pypa.io/stable/troubleshooting/ But I've not yet found a way to locate, let alone to reach out to the Pipx crew.) Anyway, after reading through that page, and also several other similar sites. I uninstalled/purged the antique distro version of Chirp. Then removed/purged python3-venv and python3-pip That also removed pipx. System restart, no issues. I then :- sudo apt install python3-venv python3-pip Completed with no error. Pipx still didn't exist, so... sudo apt install pipx Also completed with no errors. pipx list now returns :*~*$ pipx list nothing has been installed with pipx 😴 System restart again, no issues. Then retried... $ pipx install --system-site-packages ./Downloads/chirp-20240827-py3-none-any.whl The install still fails in the same way as before. :-( Looking at the structure of the .whl file, it "seems" to be a simple compressed archive of a folder structure that contains the application. Evening... OK, I've had the time to upgrade from LMDE5 to LMDE6, after uninstalling the earlier resident Chirp, and some other tools that were said to conflict with the upgrade process. (Virtualbox for one...) Overall, the upgrade went well. The system is stable and has been reliably working well for the last week, so time to re-install what was removed prior to the upgrade. So far so good, with other software... Some of it my own Python ramblings, that works just as it did on LMDE5. ("LMDE", is Linux Mint Debian Edition. Mint without any Ubuntu code, just Debian as it's basis, plus the Mint parts.) Anyway... Chirp chirp-20240827-py3-none-any.whl Fresh download an hour ago.... Ubuntu install fails

So after realising my earlier mistake with directories I am facing the following when trying to install on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Fatal error from pip prevented installation. Full pip output in file: /home/jonh/.local/pipx/logs/cmd_2024-08-21_14.10.06_pip_errors.log pip seemed to fail to build package: yattag Some possibly relevant errors from pip install: error: subprocess-exited-with-error TypeError: canonicalize_version() got an unexpected keyword argument 'strip_trailing_zero' error: metadata-generation-failed Error installing chirp from spec '/home/jonh/Downloads/chirp-20240821-py3-none-any.whl'. Not sure if this is related to the other thread that is running but I didn't see anything relevant in there so posting a fresh thread. Attempting to install Chirp Next on an Ubuntu 22.04lts laptop. Python 3 installs fine but when trying to install I get the following "Unable to parse package spec: ./chirp-20240821-py3-none-any.whl" Have re-downloaded the file but no difference. Any guidance much appreciated for a Linux noob. Thanks all.

Retevis cable issue

Hello I just brought a Retevis RA89 with the 2 Pin Cable from retevis too I use Arch Linux / Debian. Repeater programming with CHIRP

Hi all, just a quick question or two: I'm using the latest build of CHIRP, and when I populate a list of repeaters, the program enters *every freaking repeater in Florida*, which is like a gazillion. I only want repeaters within 100 miles (or less) of me here in the greater Tampa Bay area. I tried to remove some of the entries but that doesn't work. How can I tell CHIRP that I only want repeaters within a certain set of parameters? There doesn't appear to be a way to be more selective with the program. ANY assistance appreciated! Thanks.... Program Memory Banks in Yeas VX170

I have two Yeasu FT 7800R and VX170. After downloading from the FT7800R I can see the MEMORY, BANK, And SETTIN tabs at the top of the file. However when downloading there VX170 I have only the memory tab at the top of the file and it does nothing. In the FT7800R I can move and load memory banks. in the VX170 cannot load or move memory. any Idea ??? Thanks Bob

FRS Channel Won't Go Into TD H3

Hi, I have a TID TD H3. I used Chirp to pull in the FRS channels that is an option under "file". One channel went in, but the ones before this one and after it did go in. So, my radio jumps from channel 26 to 28 as I have them programmed in. I think it would be channel #17 if I had started at #1 with these. Here's the channel inputs from the CSV file: 27 FRS 17 462.6 5 88.5 88.5 23 NN 23 Tone->Tone NFM 12.5 5.0w * Can anyone suggest what I can do to make this channel available? Hello, could someone please send me a direct link to the Chirp download page? I need to try to update my chirp because I'm not able to paste more than the first line into the memories of my TD H3. I'm hoping an update of chirp will fix this. I go to: https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download# and every instance of download takes me to a page with some freeware crap. I've gotten four or five different freeware pages trying a couple download links on this page. I'm trying to get the chirp next for windows. Thanks. Memories Import behavior questions

I would like to get confirmation that the "Import" of "Memories" actually works the way I think it does and that my limited testing seems to confirm. If I have a CSV file that contains more "Memories" than the radio supports, it appears that the "Import" function imports the number of entries from the file that the radios supports, where the "channel number" is valid for that radio. For example: Using a CSV file that contains entries for 999 channels (including blank channels) 1. A radio that supports 127 memory channels will import the entries from the CSV file with "channel numbers" 0-127 and ignore the entries with "channel numbers" greater than 127 2. A radio that supports 250 memory channels will import the entries from the CSV file with "channel numbers" 0-250 and ignore the entries with "channel numbers" greater than 250 3. A radio that supports 999 memory channels will import all of the channels in the CSV file. This seems to be the behavior on the radios I have tried, but I only have 4 different models of radios to test with, so I want to confirm this. Is this correct? Hello All, This used to work in the old Chirp, that is, I'd open a CSV file, and copy and paste into the memories page and write to the radio. I have a TIDradio TD H3, and I exported to CSV, and pasted in stuff from other CSV files from other Chirp radios, and only two channels go into the radio. I tried to open a chirp in an old windows 7, because this still works in that Chirp, but this model is not in that version of Chirp. I'll attach the file, in case someone thinks there is a problem with the file. I have higher bands in this file, because this radio can RX these lower frequencies. Thanks for any assistance. Bulk Radio Configuration

Howdy folks! I was wondering if anybody had worked out a way to script the creation of files for various radios based on a single master Excel CVS File. I realize this may be a complex problem given different radio capabilities, but I am hoping somebody might have a solution. I am trying to make Ham Radio easier for new users, and to keep EmComm operators up to date. I would like to edit few "Master" channel lineups, then have config files automatically generated for a pile of radios. I need to update the maps whenever changes are made to the County Emergency Communications Map, and to provide the updates to support a pile of radios. I also plan to make those files available for download for local Hams, and to offer Radio Programming for new hams at local events.

I've got four brand X UHF radios, and five or six Baofeng radios in my collection. Because I use CHIRP, I can easily make sure that all of my radios are configured the same way, which makes it much easier when you hand one to a family member and tell them "go to Channel 15". I don't have to share a bunch of info to them, CHIRP has done all of the hard work. I think these are 3 or 4 different programs to set these radios up, but I can cut and paste the channel set ups between each of the radios and they are all set to the same basic set up. I couldn't do that without CHIRP. Once you get the connection through the driver set up (I'm on a Microsoft program), it works really well. Sometimes I have to try and connect to them once or twice, but I've had very limited issues. I'm a confirmed CHIRP user. Thanks to all that do the hard work to keep it working so well.
