This morning I used Chirp for the first time with this radio. CHIRP daily-20191110. I downloaded from the radio and saved an .img file. Then I started putting in the repeaters, and looking around at the settings. When done I uploaded to radio and all is fine. Until tonight. I wanted to make some changes so on a different computer in my shack I download from the radio and made a new image. Played around with some of the settings. I uploaded and downloaded a few times. Then I noticed that the settings screen is now blank. There is nothing there to edit. Radio still works. I came back in the house and opened the first image I made and the settings page is there. So at least I have one image with the settings intact. What could have happened? Dennis M. Downloaded Nov 10 update but problem remains; it starts and quits immediately. I am trying to make a home brew cable for chirp for the Yeasu ft2900. I have an old prolific uv5r that's already been cut in half. Inside are a red, white and black wire. If any one knows what the red, black and white wires in a prolific uv59 cable are for email me off list please. The 2900 only needs data and ground, and I know which pins of the rj12 they go to. Geoff, I have the KG-UV3D, an older radio probably than yours. I often get this same error message. It’s annoying because it seems to show up randomly. I fond that if I unplug the programming cable and turn the radio off, then plug it all in again it will usually work the next time. Or the one after that! I am trying to log in to chirp.danplanet.com to report a bug. I created an account but I always get the 'invalid user or password' when logging in. I've changed passwords 3 x . Somewhere in the past month or two it appears that a bug was introduced into Chirp for the Wouxun KG-UV6X. It is no longer accepting 2.50kHz step frequency programming. When importing frequencies into a downloaded image the 2.50kHz are dropped. Attempting to manual enter a frequency gives the error: Error setting memory: Tuning step 2.5 not support Frequency requires 2.50kHz step I have confirmed that the VFO A/B Frequency Steps are set to 2.5. This occurs when importing or manually entering into downloaded images from the newest shipped versions of the KG-UV6X as well as older previously programmed radios. This behavior is still present in the most recent daily. Has anybody else run into this, or can anybody else confirm the behavior. Cheers, Jim K2SON

[chirp_users] Latest CHIRP shows wrong radio on old .img file

Today I was looking at an old factory default CHIRP .img image file from a UV-82 (dual band, two power levels, B82S25 firmware) that I downloaded from the radio on 10 Dec 2013 when it was new and probably with the latest version of CHIRP at that time. When I opened the file with the latest version of CHIRP (CHIRP daily-20191022) it shows the radio model as a Radioddity UV-82X3. That should be impossible. I haven't looked at the file for several years so I don't know when CHIRP started doing this. I can send the file to one of the devs if they want it. Tom ND5Y

I purchased the BTECH- Baofeng Tech.com programming cable, #PC03 FTDI Cable Dual Pin, UPC # 7 0174807090409; along with the new BF-F8HP and UV-5R radios. When I attach the programming cable to the radio and connect the USB end of the programming cable to USB port on the computer; I receive a warning message, telling me this radio's driver is experimental, and asking if I want to proceed? I do have the CHIRP software installed on this computer. I have attached an image of the warning message. I am not sure if I should proceed or not. Can you offer some guidance with this? Thank you,

Hi Jeff, Chris here. I had the same problem some time ago, it was never resolved because like yourself I could no longer log in to the site. I'm using windoze ten on an Intel-alike PC. I'd try logging-in on a Raspberry Pi but I can't remember either the new or the old password now... I'm not even sure that this reply will work. Hi chirp_users. I am having trouble understanding Chirp. I have no problem programming my Baofeng UV-5RA HT direct from the ht's onboard keyboard. I don't understand some of the columns on the Chirp display after uploading the ht's memory. The memory in the ht should be clean after the factory reset. In the attached picture memory channels 1 to 10 are the way all of the memory channels are after the memory up load to Chirp after the ht factory reset. Now to the collumns, I know the column (tone) is for the tx ctcs and I assume that the (tonesql) is the rx ctcs. Why do the ctcs columns have 88.5hz in both columns. Those columns should be empty or 00.0 like in ch 11 in the attached picture. And what are the columns DTCS code,DTCS rx code DTCS pol. Why is there numbers and letters in the DTCS columns? Cross Mode I know, Duplex I know, offset I know, mode and power I know. Somewhere in Chirp is the setup to program the displays MDF (A) and MDF (B). I have seen a lot of chats saying it is there but no direct info to find it. I could use some help please. Hi chirp_users. I have a Baofeng UV-5RA HT. I am trying to reset up the HT the way it was after #40 (factory reset) in the HT's menu was hit. I remember most of the layout of the HT's memory when I looked at it via Chirp, but I never saved it. The layout as I remember starts at memory ch 1. From ch 1 to about ch 30 was filled with ham repeater frequencys and simples ch's. all on the (A, top display). Then there was about 20 blank ch's. The 21st ch had FRS1 on the 21st memory ch and so on. I don;t know how to setup the 21st memory ch to on the (B) lower display FRS1 and to rx/tx to the other FRS ht's that I have. Found a really weird bug on my UV5R today by accident. If you have one, try it and see if yours does the same thing. Press and hold PTT. While holding PTT push 1 on the keypad and hold for 5 seconds. This of course sends DTMF #1. If you release the PTT while still holding the 1 button, the radio stays in transmit mode with the microphone on even though the display says it's back in receive mode. I found no way to stop the transmission except to turn off the radio. Dennis M. Hi everyone, I wanted to program a new frequency in my transceiver but I now get an error message when I look at COM4 in device manager...it reads...PL2303HXA PHASED OUT SINCE 2012 PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER. I have re installed Prolific USB to serial Adaptor driver version 3.3.2.102 which show up correctly in Device Manager until I connect my cable to the pc USB port. I have used the programming software and generic cable successfully prior to the latest version of CHIRP. Can anyone advise me for a fix. Thanking you in advance. Tony Argentino

There is no password for CHIRP. I'm not sure why they ask for one but there is no such animal. Just contact their support team and ask you questions. I am trying to use the py3 branch of chirpw, because Fedora Linux is in the process of deprecating python 2. Mostly it is going well, but when I try to export to a CSV file, I get this error message: There was an error during export: 'gi.repository.Gtk' object has no attribute 'Tooltips' The error appears to originate in chirp/ui/importdialog.py around line 302: tips = gtk.Tooltips() Unfortunately, I don't know enough python to understand why this error is happening. Does anyone have a suggestion about how to use chirpw with python 3? Steve

I'm using the same cable that I use with my 5R but the radio fails to respond to Chirp no matter what radio model I use in the Baofeng and BTECH listings. Is there a preferred for this radio.
