Hi. In their defence, if the person concerned is using a phone or similar mobile device, their email clients editing facilities are "painful" in the extreme, even if they let you see what is left attached to what you are sending in reply, it is often difficult to impossible to edit or trim it. Even if it can be done, it is less than easy on a small mobile screen.. Some mailing lists, automatically limit the amount of included text, I don't know of this system has that facility. (But then sometimes you loose the message that is being replied to.) But yes, this (and the Elecraft list in particular) often suffers such issues with the digest mode. 73. Dave G8KBV. I have successfully been able to use Chirp to upload .csv files etc. All communications between the software and radio seem to work. However, when manually loading HAM repeater information, the upload info seems to not take correctly. For example, I used the software to put in a 2m frequency, no tone, “-“ offset at 0.60 and low transmit power. After the upload, the radio shows the correct frequency and memory name but that’s it. The transmit power shows Medium (which isn’t even an option in the software) and also shows both “+” and “-“ on the radio screen. When keying the mike, it shows CT as if there is a tone being transmitted. Something is not syncing right but I am not getting any error messages. Any help here is appreciated.

(Probably needs a login, begin at https://chirp.danplanet.com/login ) It seems from what one of the dev's has said:- Looks like the number of DCS codes reported by the radio exceeds what Chirp expects or can handle. Guess we have to look into this. That was 8 months ago, and as I was the only one reporting a problem, I guess it's a low priority. If you could login and add your voice to the report, maybe, something might happen. But, I suspect most of the dev's are working to get CHIRP working on Python3.x rather than fixing low profile bugs like this. (NOT a flame, just how it goes, and I understand why that is hopefully a priority.) I can do a little Python programming, but CHIRP is a huge codebase, and trying to understand one model of radio's back end, in isolation of the rest, is nigh on impossible for me. Else I'd have a go, but from Bernhard's comment, the problem could be deeper within CHIRP, rather than the radio's driver/backend code. 73 All. Dave G0WBX. Hello and thanks for what you do! Last week, I was successfully able to import frequencies from Radio Reference.com through my subscription. However, today, I was unable to do so. I have researched the FAQs regarding this topic. The only references I found were: CHIRP-Bug #4961 and Bug #4963. I downloaded and installed the latest version, "chirp-daily-20201221.flatpak". When I start chirp, it recommends that I visit the website and install the latest, which I thought I just did. "About" reports the version as "20201121", and /usr/bin/chirpw is dated 11-21-2020. Which version do I really have? PL2303 Serial Port When I connect the radio to the computer with this cable and switch it on, an orange LED lights above the active display. i looked thru faqs and lists didnt find info. i have 2 Baofeng uv-82hp radios and they will not switch to channel mode. i hold down menu button and switch off/on power. powers up everytime in frequency mode. i uploaded info to radios using chirp and can download from radios.

I recently purchased a set of radios on Amazon. The info says the radio is programmable so I purchased a Baofeng cable (also recommended). The radio is not listed on the Chirp site as compatible. There is very little documentation with the radio and even less anywhere else. Any help is appreciated. ~Dee

Hi. In Windows, after connecting the cable (no radio needed on the other end, nor Chirp running.) Go into the Device Manager, and look for the COM/Serial port device lists. If there are no Yellow Triangle signs, and you only see one COM port, that is the one you tell Chirp about. If you see more than one, with that display on screen, unplug the cable, wait, and re-plug it, and you'll see the list update so you can identify which COM port to use. If however, the one for your cable has a Yellow triangle, with a ! in the middle, then Windows as no driver for it, because it's recognised as either a counterfeit USB/Serial chip, or it's an old version of a Genuine chip (not uncommon sadly with Prolific chipsets) or a chipset that Windows does not know about (SiLab's and others typically, if so go to their website and pull the driver you need, for your version of Windows, and install it.) You can either rollback the driver, and install an earlier one. Under Win7 as you no longer receive updates, that should stick, but in effect your are then part of the problem stealing someone else's intellectual property by proxy. (Prolific's design and firmware.) On Win10, you will probably have to block updates else it will update to the current version that will again reject old/counterfeit devices, but in these troubled times, it is not a good idea to skip security updates. Just get a genuine FTDI or whoever's chipset based cable. OK, it costs more, but you don't need to block security updates and compromise your PC to keep using it. In Linux, the Kernel has all the drivers built in, and (usually, but for how long no one seems to say) they still work with the fake and old version chips too. (And very well too, it has to be said.) But... Your username must (On Debian based systems such as Ubuntu, Mint, Raspian and so on) be a member of the "dialout" group, or you will never get to use it. (Fedora bases systems I think have a similar requirement, but I don't know the incantation for them.) Open a command line window (Ctrl + Alt + T) and enter this:- sudo aduser $USER dialout You will be asked for your password (the same one you logged in with. '$USER' is a system variable containing your present login name.) After that you *MUST* Logout, and Log back In again (or reboot, if that is easier) for the change to take effect. Then you can use serial I/O devices. To find out what /dev/ttyUSB* number it has been assigned. Immediately after connecting the cable (again, no radio needed) in a command line window, use the command ls /dev/ttyUSB* That will show you all the USB/Serial devices it knows are connected. If you have several, compare the list without the programming cable, and with it connected, so you can identify which device name you tell Chirp to use. Note! In the presence of multiple USB/Serial devices, it is common for them to be "enumerated" (discovered) in a different order* when the machine is next restarted, so it is usually best to confirm what you have before starting the software! (* There are ways to make things consistent and stable, but that is beyond the scope of this email for now. If you are curious, look up 'udev rules' ) You may be able to "test" the cable, by connecting the apropriate pins of the radio end of the cable together, forming a serial loop-back, then you can use a terminal program (CuteCom for example, will need to install that if not already present) to type to yourself. See your radio's manual to identify which pins or terminals of the cable end to link.. I have completed these settings on my HAM radios just fine. On the two GMRS-V1 and the GMRS 50X1 radios that I have, I was informed by those who have done it, to set the "Tone Mode" to "TSQL", the "Tone" to 141.3 (example), the "ToneSql" to 141.3, and the "Cross Mode" to "Tone->Tone." The issue is, whenever I do this, the "Tone Mode" switches from "TSQL" now to "Cross" and the "Tone" is removed along with the "Tone->Tone". Can anyone tell me am I setting this up incorrectly? When uploading it with only the "Tone Mode" to "TSQL" and only the "ToneSql" tone number, leaving the "Cross Mode" blank, the radios will not open the repeaters. -- *Thanks, John KF7MUE* *GMRS-WRKD607*

I can download from my Yaesu FT-897D successfully using CHIRP daily-20201221 on Linux - Debian GNU/Linux 10 (Python 2.7.16) but I cannot upload. I tried the steps in the previously closed solution of downloading the file and using the Settings tab, then change the setting for VFO. However, I don't have anything under the "settings" tab. I do find VFOA and VFOB under the "browse"r tab on the left, which is under the blank "Settings" tab, but I don't have any info on what to put in Hex, Dec, Bin cells or which ones to use or not use. Any assistance would be appreciated Kevin

Hi, When importing a database into CHIRP from Radioreference.com, it asks for: - Username - ok - Password - ok - Zip Code - I'm from Canada & the database is also. Which zip code should I use? I didn't enter an address on Radioreference & I don't see one associated with the database... ? - It is giving an error code: server raised fault: Invalid Country ID I have also tried to import via a CSV file, but so far I'm getting an error message, as it doesn't like the CSV formatting. Greetings all, Using version Daily - 20201014. Linux Ubuntu Mate V 20.04. CAT - USB lead. Cat speed to 9600. Image file of radio saved if required. With FT817ND download and upload OK. With FT857D download OK. Carried out widebanding by solder jumper method. Memory image file upload fails, reports 'radio did not ack block 0'. Connections and lead seem good, FLRig controls the 857 OK. Original Yaesu CAT62 lead tried with serial to USB adapter, no change. Chirp bug 3081 of 2015 similar case but resolved by sender, no details. Any help appreciated. John G4BLJ

Good morning, I bought a set of Baofeng UV-82hp radios a few weeks ago since than I have not been able to program them. I tried two different cables so far the one that came with the radios and one that I bought from Amazon, the Amazon cable says it’s FTDI, it does flash and recognize my radios but I get an error message while trying to clone says that the radio can’t be Recognized by com port 6. I’ve tried to update, install, reinstall the ports abound twenty times. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. I’m going to try another cable any Sunday would be great! Respectively,

I recently bought a CTF-29 after reading it was the cable to buy based on Youtube videos. I cannot get it to work on windows 10 Pro. On doing a little research on the internet I see that most programming software for the radio come with a USB-29F cable. I am skeptical that there is a difference between the two.
