Dan, I am happy using the laptop to update the 2800 -- its working. Tweaking to get the Athlon to work is not needed from my perspective. However, I am willing to run trials if sometime you want to tweak the code for the 2800. I run Ubuntu Oneric for most of my ham stuff, but also have Windows 7/XP and Mac(Lion) machines. 73, Jack (W0FNQ)

Hi all, As you just saw from the build system, I froze 0.2.0. I have decided to change the version numbering just a bit. Every big formal release that includes new features will increment the middle number (the next one with feature change will be 0.3.0). I plan to make a couple of smaller releases where the last number increments, which will include only fixes on top of the last release. These would be things like fixes against specific drivers to address bugs, etc. This will let me post 0.2.1 sooner than later and incorporate things that are breaking "normal" users each day. Dan/Mike, Thanks for the replies. Out of curiosity, I pulled out an old Inspiron 600m laptop and it works. at least for polling the rig. I haven't tried an upload yet. Perhaps this suggest a serial timing issue? The other computer that didn't work is and Athlon quad on a Asus m/b. I do regularly use the serial port on the Asus machine without any issue. Later this morning I will try uploading. I have been attempting to use Chirp (both W7 and Ubuntu platforms) and am unable to achieve any transfer. I open Chirp and the download menu, set Com1, Yaesu, and 2800 >> then set the 2800 by pressing the 3 clone buttons >> when I press the MHz button, the 2800 responds with "error" Trying to engage Chirp first results in s "no header" error. I know the com1 port is working as I use it regularly for other programs and I have used the cable and the trial version of g4hfq prog. Any thoughts would be appreciated. 73, Jack (W0FNQ)

I added a few new repeaters to my Kenwood TM-D710 and wanted to copy them to my Yaesu VX5. Here's my process: 1. Download from radio TM-D710 2. Export to CSV 1. Download from radio VX5 2. Import CSV So far things worked fine. I successfully imported memories 501-516 from the D710 into memories 201-216 of the VX5 tab in Chirp. 3. Upload to radio VX5. Now I put the VX5 in memory recall mode and look for memories 201-216. They're not there! However, if I try to create a new memory with the VX5, the VX5 shows those slots are taken. 4. Download from radio VX5 I cloned VX->chirp again to see if the new memories had at least been stored, even if they could not be recalled. They are there. Apparently the VX5's memory recall function just doesn't like something about the bits. 5. Change mode of memory 201 from NFM to FM 6. Upload to radio VX5 Thinking maybe the narrow option was confusing the VX5 (I don't believe it's a narrowband-capable radio), I tried changing NFM->FM to see if it would be able to recall the memory. This time I got CLONE ERROR on the display and the radio appears to be in factory reset condition. I figure I can just restore it to an image I created last week... 7. Open vx5.img 8. Upload to radio VX5 No luck. I got CLONE ERROR on the display, and this in the terminal: "Clone failed: Radio did not ack block 1" Maybe the VX5 has failed? Let's try something simple... 9. Download from radio VX5 10. Add memory 1: 146.52 11. Upload to radio VX5 I am able to recall memory 1 as 146.52 in the VX5. I'm not sure what to try next. I can provide img files if needed. My first time at using this application. I just downloaded Version 0.1.12. It came up just fine. When I tried to download the memory from my Kenwood TH-F6a, I get the error message stating the the radio is not supported. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need a later release? Hi all, Although it may not seem like it from the recent thread on Windows GTK weirdness, I think chirp is stabilizing enough for another release. There have been a huge number of changes, improvements, and bug fixes since 0.1.12 was released in September. All of the bugs that have been opened on the website that are targed for 0.1.13 have been fixed, so I feel like we're getting pretty close to that point. If you have anything else that you think needs to be addressed before 0.1.13 please speak up, otherwise I'll tag and post the release in a couple of days. I'm using a cable from Kawa on Ebay on Mac OS X Lion with the Open Source driver from http://sourceforge.net/projects/osx-pl2303/. I can download from the radio, but when I try and upload it errors out. I'm using the daily build from Feb 27th. The log should show a successful download, followed by two upload attempts.

I understand that the GPS has to be turned off to use Chirp. However I can not figure out if it is on or off or how to turn it off. Anyone here have the ICOM 92AD? I have looked through the User Manual and it does not say anything about turning the GPS on or off. Good Morning, I tried the windows XP box and there is no selection for the Yaesu 857D so I picked several other models and got instant errors, I use linux ubuntu of this laptop and installed the latest build on here and get the exact same error on this machine as on the desktop running the same os. The menories in the radio were set using the windows Yaesu software by a friend, maybe there is a problem with the one memory block on the radio, the download is almost complete when the error shows. here id a screensot. With Linux, open in home directory: gzip -cd chirp-daily-XXX | tar xfv - I then move my old saved rig files to the new directory or one could just save the rig files in a separate file and always save to that separate file. When happy with the new build, delete the old one. Will CHIRP have the ability to program the somewhat new Baofeng UV-3R HT? The reason I ask is that the software that you download is not all that great. I use it for my ICOM IC92AD and love it. So I am hoping to find out that CHIRP will be able to program this made in CHINA. Hi, I'm brand new to radio, just bought a Wouxun Dual band 2M/440 or 2M/220, and need help programming it. I have a Mac, but no cable. Wouxun says they don't know about Macs, but their cable requires a driver. They suggested I find a prolific USB driver somewhere, or ask CHIRP for help. I had found you through the downloadable programming tool on the Oro Valley Amateur Radio club. But you say my radio can be programmed with a little extra effort. What kind of extra effort? And should I buy the Wouxun cable that needs a driver? Does your CHIRP programming tool contain a driver for an iMac? Or is there someone who has this who would be willing to help me through his/her PC or mac? Thanks a whole lot. Judy 742-0911

I installed Chirp from a tar.gz file and it didn't show the Yaesu 857d, so I removed it. Then reinstalled it by adding ubuntu ppa, but do not see the 857d in the Yaesu selection. Did I do something wrong or isn't in the uuntu build?? Ed -- Stop organized crime. Re-elect no one.

An updated python environment 2. GTK built with native Quartz support (X11 is no longer needed!) 3. I've never seen it before, but I'm not a Windows person (like, at all). You shouldn't need to install any dependencies to run chirp, but there are basic things on the system that are expected to be there and working, like the C/C++ runtimes. If those are broken on your system, then you'll have issues. The runtimes are used by the python environment, which is bundled with chirp, but not authored by me, so I don't really have visibility into what the connections are. In looking around, I see very few instances (relative to the rest of them) related to Python. However, this one may be relevant if the system is 64-bit: http://bugs.python.org/issue4284 You might try installing the 32-bit MSVC++ 2008 redistributable package linked in that bug to see if that resolves the issue. I have been using Chirp with a Wouun KG-UV3D and USB cable for a couple months with no problems. Thanks for the useful utility. Today I finished up a mobile install of a Kenwood TV-V71A radio. I tried the stable version of Chirp (0.1.12) and also the daily build from Feb 9. When the program attempts to identify the radio it tells me that it is unable to probe the radio model. The odd thing is that it is printing the "V71" string which seems to indicate that there was some successful communication taking place. I am running this with a laptop running Ubuntu 11.04 and using he Kenwood USB to serial cable KPG-46U. I also have available a laptop running RHEL 6.2 but have not tried that yet. Any hints appreciated. Terminal trace info follows. A radio driver should implement BankModel and return it from Radio.get_bank_model(). This encapsulates all bank-related transactions. Radios with user-nameable banks should also implement NamedBank and plumb name changes accordingly.
