The exact error message is "An error has occurred Failed to communicate with the radio: Unexpected response from the radio" I am currently using Chirp Daily 20130129 on a WIN XP Home (SP3+) ASUS netbook with the USB (Prolific) cable that came with my BAOFENG UV-5RA. I am trying to use the latest daily build of CHIRP and my USB cable for my BAOFENG UV-5R (which works beautifully with CHIRP) to download the programming from an ICOM W32A HT. Is there any special configuration at the radio that CHIRP is expecting (aside from just turning it on) as I keep getting CHIRP telling me that there was no response from the radio. I have tried putting the W32A into the clone mode .. and it seems to transmit data .. but CHIRP is not getting it. Thanks in advance.. -- John 73's de K9RSQ

I've installed Chirp (chirp-daily-20130301) on my iMac OX10 (Lion 10.7.5), but I cannot get it to read from my radio. When selecting "Radio" > "Download from Radio", my two port options are /dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem Since I'm not using Bluetooth, I'm at a loss for what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Radio is a Baofeng UV-5RA

You`re doing a great job, really amazing. But I am still missing the possibility to add "out of range" into memo sheet, since chirp can "unlock", I mean, CHIRP can allow me to set up my Baofeng range from 1mhz to 1000mhz! I know many of you Are going to ask? Why? Well, I could tune, as previsouly said, some frequences low then 136mhz and I am still able to tune 4 freqeuncies around 980mhz loud and clear. Even if it is a "harmonic" interference, I couldn`nt find the original "tone". So, only in 983Mhz I can hear what is int this freq. as I posted one video. To add this memo I have to launch windows (in my mac), run the VIP software (that is not "unlocking" my device, I mean, VIp is not allowing me to set up out of original range frequences, as it used to do with some models, but...) that reconizes my "unlocked baofeng" ant let me add those memos! tks

Hi folks, I'm new to chirp, but not to HAM. I've used EVE, VX<something>Commander, and a few other SW programming tools. I've run into an odd problem on VX5Commander with a radio, so I turned to Chirp to see if I could figure out why it's not working right. So, I loaded up Chirp and am trying to read from my VX7 to put that file into the VX5. However, when I click "Download from Radio" absolutely nothing happens. I'm "perfuzzled". The USB->serial cables I have are known to work with appropriate drivers. I'm running Win7 Pro-64 bit. Am I missing a step to get the pop-up to come up so I can download (and, eventually upload) to the radio? Y'alls help (yep, I'm in Texas) is greatly appreciated. josef

Anyone can set a radio to display a frequency. That is all it does...display. At best, you will not get the pll to go there. at worst...you will permanently brick your radio. I advise any reputable software author to Not write anything to take a radio past design limits, lest someone accuse them of software that destroyed their radio. Hello, I have a Baofeng uv5r. I use chirp to add channels freqüência, and to unlock it. But the channel painel doesn't allowed me to input freqüentes that are out of. IIRC, we chose the limit upper boundary to be the highest useful frequency it can be used for. If it is really capable of locking that high on receive, then we should probably make it honor the limits set by the user instead of the arbitrary ones we chose. LOL certainly not ready for primetime. I advise not to use this software with your AT5888UV. Works maybe 20% the way you would want. Big trouble with data written to radio that in no way matches what's entered. Made my radio inoperable until I restored factory defaults. Platform, Windows 7, 32 bit professional. Software, CHIRP daily-20130224.

I tried to read a FT8800 radio; I just get an error about not being able to read the header. I followed the 8800 process to put it in clone mode. I used the latest production version of Chirp. As you may be able to tell, this is my first time to try chirp, so if you can direct me on what information I may provide to aid in directing me that would be most welcome. I did a read from my Icom IC-2100 using Chirp. All the memories that were in the radio were loaded into chirp successfully, but there was one additional column called ToneSql that was set for all channels to 88.5. I do not use a Receive tone squelch on any of the channels, so not sure why this column is showing up after the read from the radio. Also, there does not seem to be a way to set the ToneSql to not be active. The drop down menu for each channel does not have a "n/a" or "none" option, just more tone frequencies. How do I make the tone squelch inactive for the receive so I can add some frequencies to the current list and then write back to the radio? I am trying to run Chirp on an ASUS Eee PC with Windows XP. The OS is a stripped down version to fit the limited storage on the PC. I get the error message "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." [chirp_users] Baofeng UV-5R+Upload Error

Model: Baofeng UV-5R+ Firmware: BFB297 Driver: Prolilfic 3.2.0.0 Operating System: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Chirp: Daily Build 20121222 I just purchased the UV-5R+ and tried to connect it up to Chirp. Got through the driver installation and Chirp software install thanks to the documentation provided on MIKLOR. I am able to Download the radio parameters into Chirp fine - the "Cloning" window pops up and everything appears to show fine. However after making a frequency change to one channel and trying to Upload the changes back to the radio, I get the message: "Unsupported Firmware Version BFB301 BFB297". This happens right after the "Cloning" window pops up. Since there are so many variables to analyze for potential problems, I downloaded the Baofeng VIP software version: V120725 and tried the same scenario - everything seems to work fine there - Download/Upload. Is Firmware Version BFB297 supported yet by CHIRP? Thanks, Doug

Hi I am having trouble with Chirp. I have chirp running a windows XP home desk top and it works great. I have it running on windows 7 Laptop and it works great. My son windows Vista Laptop and we are having trouble openning a file or saving it. When I have a file download from the UV5R I can enter anything that I want to. but I can not save that file. When I click "save as" it does nothing at all. If I close the program it opens a little window open and asks if I want to save, delete or cancel, I select save and nothing happens. I can also click open from the file drop down and nothing opens or happens. I think this Vista machine is the problem, what do you think Thanks Dave Barber

So your having problem saving the chirp file that you created. Question is can you save in other applications? For example can you save somthing in notepad? NO same error ? then its something with your operating system. If yes then its not the OS but its pointing towards the software. Remember its BETA.. which means it may be something that does not like your hardware or something like that. Make sure you have the current version of CHIRP. Try removing and reinstalling.. make a small file so as not to waste time adding a lot of information in. Can the software read the information in your radio ? Are the drivers installed correctly? Check your MSCONFIG file for anything that might be a problem with your system. Temporally, pause your virus program.. Try these tips one at a time to find out if any of them work. Have you tried the software that comes from the manufactor of your radio? You have to try determine if the problem is with your OS or with the program. Hope this helps.

[chirp_users] Chirp latest daily with Baofeng UV-5R

Hi all, I am using a Baofeng UV-5R with BFB297 firmware and CHIRP daily (today's build). I have used Chirp successfully with the Wouxun KG-UVD1P, Baofeng UV-3R and Yaesu FT-857D, however, when I use the USB cable I got for my Wouxun to try and download the img from the UV-5R the radio does not communicate with the software. Chirp sends two magic numbers to the rig, but the rig doesn't reply. I have tested Chirp with the Wouxun and the UV-3R, and it works fine. Many thanks Matt M0ZAI

You might wander by the Chirp website and let them know that. They have the UV-5RC on their list for future development because ONE user has repeatedly reported that Chirp crashes on this computer ever time he tries to read the data from his UV-5RC. I also noted an entry in that New Model list for be BaoFeng UV-5RC with some further discussion about the history of the request but ending up with the same effect, blocked until some developer has one. I found this rather odd since the BaoFeng UV-5RC is the same radio as the rest of the BaoFeng UV-5R family with just a different case on the outside but the same hardware and firmware inside. From the data listed in the entry, it appears that there is ONE user complaining repeatedly that Chirp crashes when reading data from his radio. i am kevin, i have both a ham radio callsign n0ukm and a public safety callsign for part 90 operations. i am using a baofeng uv-5r radio that has bfb297 firmware. version of chirp that i am using is: chirp daily-20130216 what i am needing to do is this: program only a transmit tone and it does not matter if it is ctcss or dcs. the agencies i work with do not require a receive tone. only a transmit tone is needed. what do i need to do with the chirp programming software that allows me to do that. this is the first time for me programming this radio with the chirp software with both public safety simplex and repeater/ham radio simplex and repeater. can someone please help and if i need to clarify something let me know thanks -- Doc
