[chirp_users] New Install with OSX Lion

I have installed the KK7DS_Python_Runtime_R5, Chirp 0.1.12, KawaMall USBSerial cable with Prolific PL2303 drivers, and am trying to program a Yaesu FT8800R. When I can verify that that my usbserial devices in connected through system profiler. When I connect the radio and open Chirp I select the usbserial device and start a download. The radio immediately quits with an error and Chirp reports 'An error occurred' 'ord() expected a character, but string of length 0 found'. How can I start to debug this error?

See this link for building a custom VX-8 cable: http://users.tpg.com.au/vk4go1/vx8-2.htm Note: you can buy just the connector with a cable on it for the VX-8 from RT Systems for $8. You still need something to get 0-3.3V. If you have multiple radios I would get one FTDI serial adapter and wire different ends. You could use the 6 pin FTDI cable. See TTL-232R-3V3 or TTL-232R-5V depending on whether you need 3.3V or 5V. http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/Cables/USBTTLSerial.htm http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documents/DataSheets/Cables/DS_TTL-232R_CAB… You can get that cable as well as some other good FTDI usb serial breakout boards from some of the electronics DIY places like Adafruit, Sparkfun, Seeedstudio, etc. https://www.adafruit.com/products/70 Or https://www.adafruit.com/products/284 Or http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9873 If you are doing other things with micro-controllers, wireless router hacking, you will probably wind up with a few of these in your toolbox anyway as many embedded devices have a 3.3V or 5V serial console buried in there somewhere.

To add the repository as a software source, please follow these instructions: http://www.d-rats.com/component/content/article/30-d-rats-yum-repository/ I know it says d-rats, the chirp files are in the same repository After setting up the repository, open the "Add/Remove Software" tool and go to "software sources" under the system menu. Make sure the "KK7DS Ham Apps Beta Software" line is checked (enabled). For some reason, the Fedora package manager likes the beta versions better that the daily builds, so you may not see the daily release in the list the first time you update. If you don't see it, open a terminal window and enter: yum update chirp-daily_10312011 Or, If you are running Fedora fc13 or earlier, enter: yum update chirp-daily_10312011-1.fc13 That should install the latest daily build. Daily build 10262011 for Mac OS. Using a USB-Serial adapter on my Kenwood TH-K2. Chirp says "unable to probe radio model." Works great with my Puxing-777 though.

That means that my mapping of the bit that controls whether the name is used or not is not correct. The code is *attempting* to always enable the display of the name. [chirp_users] latest build trouble on MacOS

I downloaded the .1.1.12 .zip file for MacOS. After Extraction when I run the .App it prompts about being first time run and do I want to download. Immediately after clicking 'OK' it gives an error saying "unable to fetch CHIRP 0.1.12". Is there a way to manually download the full App?
