I have 3 models of Baofeng Radios. I was abel to use Chirp on all three ( UV82L, BF-F8+ & BF-F8HP) in past. I updated the latest tonight and do not see the BF-F8 or F8+ as a choice. I tried the selecting each one on the list (I the hope it might see it as BF-F8HP) and as I am sure you know, it did not work.

Hi All I have had Chirp for quite a few years but don't let that fool you, I know nothing about it. I purchased two Baofeng UV-5R+Plus radios a while ago and a friend used Chirp to clone his radio and then to set my two up. I have used it a few times as I have recommended the Baofeng radios to others and then I have used Chirp to clone mine and set theirs up. I am not sure what has happened but I have updated to a Toshiba laptop, I've just updated that to Windows 10, and I downloaded the latest Chirp today. It's been a while since I last used Chirp and a friend has just purchased two Baofeng UV-5RTP radios and asked me to set them up. When I opened Chirp I opened my radio image file and connected the new radio. I get a COM 5 port error and that's it. I tried hooking my radio up but get the same error. Not sure whether it's relevant but I used the same original data cable as I did for my, and others, radios. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Mick.

I just got a Baofeng UV-5R5 radio and Baofeng UV-5R Programming Cable. I installed CHIRP 20150814 and Prolific v3.2.0.0 drivers. When I try to "Download From Radio", I get "An error has occurred - Radio did not respond". I hope CHIRP supports the UV-5R5 because the Baofeng software appears to be in Chinese. Every character displays as a "?" so I don't know if there's a way to switch it to English. Rachel Carr KG5HUX

Subject: ICOM IC-T8A programming bug #1899 To: chirp_users(a)intrepid.danplanet.com After some research on the Chirp website, it appears that I am having the same issues with programming my two ICOM radios as was described a year ago in Bug #1899. It doesn't appear that this bug has been addressed yet. Specifically, if a frequency such as 146.7250 Mhz is entered into the Chirp frequency list and uploaded to the radio, it appears as 146.7225. In other words, the Chirp frequency list doesn't match the actual programmed frequency. It is offset 2.5 Khz. Another frequency, such as 447.440, will program correctly, so the problem seems to be related to having a number in the 3rd digit to the right of the decimal point. It doesn't matter whether VHF or UHF. Both radios have the MARS/CAP mod, and both behave the same. If I then download the incorrect radio frequencies from the radio back to the Chirp frequency list, all of the incorrect frequencies come back corrected to their proper values, just as if the upload worked perfectly. If a GMRS frequency with 4 digits to the right of the decimal point is entered, it will also upload correctly. The same software is used to program a Baofeng UV-5RA with the same frequency list and it works perfectly. I have tried both the older 0.4.0 and the newer 0.4.1 software versions. Any chance this bug can be fixed or that someone has found a workaround? Thanks for your help! Walt

I had one follow up question/clarification to this. I thought my UV5-R+ 'design flaw' of automatically changing the transmit channel was the most irritating issue with the radio, anyway glad to hear Baofeng resolved it in later firmware and my new BF-F8HP works as I thought my UV5R originally should. My question is can the firmware be updated on the UV5-R to a more current revision to resolve this issue? From looking at the following link on miklor.com, the answer appears to be no, but I thought I'd confirm: *Note: The firmware chip is fixed and cannot be re-flashed <http://www.miklor.com/uv5r/UV5R-Firmware.php>*. * BTW, appreciate the email discussion as I've learned quite a bit about the software, programming, drivers, operating system compatibility issues, radios, cables, etc... just by following along here. [chirp_users] Com Port Access Denied

I recently purchased a new Baofeng BF-F8HP radio, and an FTDI cable from AnyTone. No matter what software or drivers I use, and no matter which Com Ports I use, I get the same warning [ "An error has occurred, could not open port Com XXX: [Error 5] Access is denied."] and am unable to connect to the radio. I have tried this on both my Win 7 Pro and my Win 10 machines with exactly the same results. I also have noticed that no matter what Com Port I choose, I get a message that some other application is already using it [I have tried ports all the way from 14 into the low 100's], which of course, I can hardly believe. Any help would be much appreciated. Mark

My wife and I are both long time Hams and First Responders. We have permission to use radios on both county and city police and fire departments in a limited way. However we must provide our own radios. It reads like the UV 5R could possibly do this on VHF analog repeaters. I think their is more programming steps that must be done in order to make it possible. An example freq as xmitted by my county repeater is 155.655. There are several others. [chirp_users] MacOS USB connection problems with Yosemite (10.10.5) and a Wouxun KG-UVD1P

Hello, Everyone. I am a brand new chirp user. As it is described in the Subject line, I am trying to connect to a Wouxun KG-UVD1P using chirp. When I attempt to download from the radio, I only have access to two Bluetooth ports. I am unable to access either of the two USB ports on this MacBook Pro. I am using what appears to be the official Wouxun USB cable I ordered for Amazon. I checked the relevant chirp pages and all I see are solutions for MacOS versions 10.9 and earlier. I am using MacOS 10.10.5 Any ideas about how I can access the USB port or current driver that will enable me to access my radio? Thanks in advance. Ed Lomax (e_lomax(a)yahoo.com)

I recently purchased a TYT TH-9000D. My understanding is that this is the Dual Band version (VHF/UHF) I've tried using the recent daily build to communicate with the radio, but every time I do I receive an "unsupported device" error. There are 3 types of TH-9000 listed and I believe these are for the single band models. Is there specific support for the D model? It's mentioned on the website but I think it may just be the regular TH-9000. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. -SP

I need some ideas here. I have a Baofeng UV82L that I program with Chirp and have no problem cloning this for the various UV5? radios that people have around here. I'm comfortable with Chirp. Recently purchased a TYT 9800; I have no problem programming that from the front panel, but I'm a computer junky and it's normally easier to enter / fix radio data programmatically. Running Windows 10, updated; have a cable that claims to be a TYT (the label on the cable); when plugged in device manager reports "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" The Prolific 3.2.0.0 driver announces itself as being available on com 4 when the Baofeng cable is plugged in; however I see no com ports available for the TYT - I have not been able to get either the driver that came with the disk or the one available fro Grapevine (retailer in Dallas) to install. Any comments / suggestions would be appreciated. I'm at a loss. //al
