TYT TH9000D Plus support?

Will one of the TYT supported radios (TH9000_144, TH9000_220, TH9000_440) work with the TH9000D Plus? Apparently my friends have bad taste in radios and like to purchase units not supported in CHIRP :( In a related subject: Another popular TYT model (the TH8600, which is the only IP65 waterproof rated radio I know of) was being worked on about a year ago, but seems to have gone dead. Is there any plans to support that radio? It's a very popular model among those who use Ham comms in off-road vehicles that are exposed to the elements. I would be willing to send mine to anyone with the know-how to develop support for it. The factory programming software for it sucks!

Whine on trx Low Power in new batch of GT-3TP Baofengs

I bought several new GT-3TP and so far those tested have a whine on trx when running Low power. Audio quality is also inferior to numerous older GT-3TPs we run on the ranch. In the past I'd noticed this whine on a batch of new UV-5Rs I programmed for a friend. The advice back then was that the newer HTs had some differences, and to turn off Battery Saver in CHIRP Setting/Basic Settings to reduce that whine. I never tested that theory. But setting Battery Saver to Off doesn't remove my Low Power whine (recall that the GT-3TP is FCC type UV-5R, CHIRP Model BF-F8HP). So I have a couple of questions for the group: 1) Any other ideas on how to remove that whine on trx? 2) Is Battery Saver worth using at all? Some on RadioReference say it's of no use. For now my workaround is to run M Power (4w) if the whine is too annoying. But I prefer to run Low unless more is needed. Reno K7CRL -- //CRL Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

UV-18 Pro Max GPS firmware

The current version of this radio's firmware is 1.03 as from the factory. The radio has alot of advantages but what I am looking for is a way to A) download the firmware image from the radio B) Locate a site where there might be an updated firmware revision Has anybody got leads on these items? --Hal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

cannot program my baofeng get error message "error reading data from radio: not amount of data we want. can program my uv-5r just fine. my5rm shows uv-5rm on the bottom front. Tom wd0gvh

Power-On messages inop in new GT3-TP?

I got a few new GT3-TP spares, and programmed them with CHIRP as usual. Something's changed in the startup display at boot. I use two parameters under "Setting/Other Settings" to display my CHIRP version level and my call sign on boot: Power-On Message 1 used to display on the 1st line Power-On Message 2 used to display on the 2nd line (both briefly on boot) Now, neither works. "GT-3" displays on the 1st line "MARK III" displays on the 2nd line And the 6+Power-On Message settings seem to also be ignored. They are also greyed out in CHIRP, cannot be changed. Anybody BTDT? Got a remedy? I already jailbroke the new units with a hard factory reset. -- //CRL Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

John: A very logical question. No only do I have the NWS 6 or 7 broadcast channels, I also have the two Skywarn channels for my home area, as well as some Fire and EMS dispatch channels in my home area. This 'odd' group allows me to move around the state (in Florida) and not have to specifically program or dial to the specific channel. It's something I want to try now that I know what the TO/CO/SE designations mean. Thanks for your help on this. Generally, there is only one that covers your geographical area and the others are out of range. Also, because they never stop transmitting, your radio will stop on it every scan cycle. Actually, Jim responded. I use the 5R, so I followed his instructions just to see the result. I stumbled a bit, because "scroll down to the Detailed Menu Reference" is really "Menu Definitions - Detailed", and my brain was programmed to skim for "Detailed". Persistence helped ;-) But sure enough, the answer is there. Thanks to you both. I updated my notes to "UV-5R scan options: TO=pause on channel; resume after preset time. CO=stop on carrier detect; resume when carrier drops. SE=stop on carrier detect; resumed by user." ...but it has been a while since I used scan on either of my 5R models, so I don't recall what happens with SE. I'll have to read the manual and test. Does it: 1. When SE is active and stopped on a channel, and the user presses SCAN, radios will pick up the scan at the channel point following, and resume scanning. 2. Go back to the beginning of the scan programmed list, and begin again. 3. Start the scan with the current channel, which may still be active. In this case, the user must manually step ahead, then press SCAN.
