Does the UV-6R display the "name" ? I uploaded a stock configuration that included name info but the radio isn't showing it, unlike the UV-5R that does. None of the reviews I found mentioned it. Ive got the final release of OSX Sierra (10.12) and the latest version CHIRP (chirp-daily-20160911) and get an error every time I try to “download from radio”. Hi to all, main Btech Chirp's driver developer here, Recently working with a Chirp's user about this problem, he spot the possible cause of the driver not working on Linux OS as it should be: Linux is to fast! So, we have crafted a dev version with this patch and need some of the users out there with a Linux Operating System that has problems in the past with the BTECH/QYT/Waccom radios to test it. None of the beofeng radios are legal to use on the frs or grms . They can only be used by a licensed ham operator. The only exception is the part 90 Radios that can be used on business band with an FCC license. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Hello everyone...I am new to programming radios via CHIRP; I have succesfully programmed frequecies, CTCSS and offset freqs and etc...and everything works fine. I have programmed freqs into memories and it all works great, yet, I'd like to ID radios with DTMF tone bursts at the beggining of the transmission, yet I can only "send" the tones while in Frequency mode and NOT in channel/memory mode..is there a way to do this via CHIRP...I cannot even manually 'force' the radio to do it...as soon as I exit the MENU mode, the radios reset the PTT-ID to 'OFF'...any ideas? all the best and thank you for your kind advice. enrique

Hello List members, This is my first post to the list. I have a couple of questions about the use of the chirp software. I just acquired a Beofeng UV 5x3 and am learning the Chirp software. 1. I notice that the program seems to default to "cross" in the tone mode column. I was trying to figure out if one cane change several lines at once to "tone". I cannot find if this is possible so I programed each separately. 2. In the cross mode column, the program seems to keep defaulting to tone->tone despite that I saved it as tone only, Any ideas on why it does this? Is there a way to get to tone only? If one has tone selected in the tone mode column is it not putting the radio in tone squelch mode even if the cross mode column is saying tone->tone? I have not been able to find instructions on how this works. 3. I attempted to put in some skipped channels for scanning. I cannot get the program to show which ones I labeled as the skipped channels. Also when I attempted to put in skipped channels the program seems to change the tone mode and cross mode w/o my doing anything to those columns. Is there an easier way to put in skipped channels rather than each one separately? Any help on these issues and if there is a place I can find some instructions would be greatly appreciated. I haven't downloaded from my UV-5r for quite some time but today I downloaded the latest version of Chirp, plugged in the cable and I get the following error thrown up by Chirp - "could not open port COM3: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified." .. and this error for the port in Device Manager of Windows 10 .. "This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Not Enough Quota} Not enough virtual memory or paging file quota is available to complete the specified operation." Previously I've had no problems. I rebooted hoping to free up any previously locked memory and got the same result. My computer is an HP Probook 4540s with 8gb ram. The paging file is set at 1905mb which is windows recommended size. What do I do now? Ken G.

Hi, I searched on RadioReference.com for some local frequencies by zip code, and it gave me a list. I am planning on trying to enter them into a CSV file that I had previously exported. I am trying to test these frequencies on my Baofeng 5R and it does not allow me to enter the frequency, and based on the numbers, I'm thinking that that the 5R does not go to this frequency range. example: 39.820000 I thought that there is a way to force this type of radio to scan in those areas. I live in California , Barstow in San Bernardino County to be exact. Most of the county has gone to 800 my trunking radios. The California Hiway Patrol is in low band 6 meters 42 - 48 mhz.
