[chirp_users] CHIRP with Linux Mint / Linux Zorin

I am new to Linux (Linux Mint 17.2 and Zorin 9.0). I have installed CHIRP on both computers. But I am unable to download from my Baofeng UV-3R or Baofeng UV-5R. In each case it appears it does not find, or allow me access to, the Com Port ttyS0, or any port for that matter. Probably something simple I do not know about being new to Linux. Can anyone please give me some advice? Thanks Richard AG5M

Jim, Dave and others who responded. I did what you said, but when I go to add dialout it asks for a Group name to be inserted. What exactly is a "Group name"? It's asking for some combination of lower case letters and numbers. Not sure what to put in there for a Group name. I also tried using terminal without success. I typed in sudo usermod -a -G dialout USERNAME. Are there spaces between usermod and -a-G username? I tried with and without spaces, then ran id USERNAME but still could not find dia on the list. Something basic here I'm still not in tune with. More advice please??? [chirp_users] Request for assistance -- Ubuntu and daily build

Folks: I'm a bit puzzled. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I followed instructions for adding the repositories and pulling and installing CHIRP (which is a very nice bit of work). But I am unable to install the daily builds. Here are the errors I receive: sudo apt-get install chirp-daily Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following NEW packages will be installed: chirp-daily 0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 0 B/329 kB of archives. Reason for the question: Wouxun KG-UV2D is supported on the "home" page, but not listed in the radios of the version of CHIRP (0.4.1) I currently have. I would like to fix this. I spent most of the last two days finding out what is and is not supported for the Baofeng (Pofung) UV-3R, which I know is an older model. I was working from *.csv files. Once you have uploaded from the radio (or loaded a saved image from the model you are using) you can disable transmit by: 1 - click "Settings" on the extreme left (There is a column that says "Memories" and "Settings" - click on Settings) 2 - click on "Other Settings" in the second menu column 3 - Change the VHF and UHF frequency limits as desired (e.g. 144-148 and 420-450) You can disable transmit all together by unchecking the boxes next to VHF and UHF "TX Enable" KW9WR Bill

Hello: I recently repaired my KG-UV3D by replacing the memory chip using the procedure described at http://tim-yvonne.com/ham/wouxun-memory/index.htm I am having the problem that the radio apparently has reset itself to the other band as when I attempt to use the Wouxon software I am now getting a Channel Message 1 Out of Range message. Is there a rescue image that I can use to reset this radio back to factory defaults? The web page listed above list 2 image files but they are for a KG-UVD1P. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Bob Morningstar

[chirp_users] Clean BF-F9+TP Image Required

Hi all I have a Pofung BF-F9+TP which I am having problems with. I can't access the local repeater even though the rig seems to be set up correctly. It's transmitting on the correct input frequency, but it won't open the repeater, even though it's on the same settings as my UV-5R which works just fine. I suspect I may have got something wrong during programming and, like an idiot, I forgot to get a nice clean copy of the software when it first arrived. Does anyone have a known-good image for firmware N5R3401 - BFP3-25, preferably one that is known to work with a repeater? Douglas Yates
