Just added the repo to my Ubuntu MATE 20.04 install, updated apt, but when I run apt-get install chirp-daily I get Unable to locate package chirp-daily.

[chirp_users] Mac OS X (Mojave and Catalina) CHIRP, Baofeng UV-82 High Power and Baofeng USB cable

CHIRP (as of daily-202000603) is having errors “cloning” a new Baofeng UV-82 High Power using a Baofeng USB cable (both purchased through Amazon). The errors occur on both a 2012 Mac Pro running Mojave 10.14.6 and 2012 MacBook Pro running Catalina 10.15.. On the Mac Pro, I always get the error “Radio did not respond”. I tried with the built-in driver as well as the driver on the FTDI Chip website (v2.4.2) but same error. On the MacBook Pro, CHIRP was able to initiate the cloning process but then error’ed out with “Radio refused to send second block” or something to that effect. I then installed the FTDI Chip v2.4.2 driver and now always get the “Radio did not respond” error. I booted the MacBook Pro to Windows 10, and without installing any drivers (I believe I already had appropriate FTDI drivers for my OBDII cable), CHIRP successfully cloned the UV-82 High Power, so this validates that both the Baofeng UV-82 High Power and the Baofeng USB cable are operating correctly. The Mac OS X tips have not provided any solution. So this comes down to, IMO, the CHIRP software. As there appears to be reports of success with using OS X CHIRP, I can only assume it’s specific to the UV-82 (the newer “High Power” version, which seems to be distinct to the original UV-82HP) and/or my 2012 Mac computers (doubtful its a problem with the computers are they are different hardware-wise and OS version-wise). Can anyone provide any insight, guidance, suggestions that may work for the hardware mentioned?

[chirp_users] Kenwood TH-F6 Upload

Hi, I know that the Kenwood TH-F6 in Chirp is operating under "live mode", but I'm not sure of what that means in terms of programming it. I went throughout the settings, and put in my call sign and initials instead of the HELLO !! that was in there, and when I connected it to the Kenwood software, I saw that it was saved on the Kenwood, from the Chirp software. I tried importing a CSV file, and Chirp messes it up, and that is a CSV file that I used on Chirp with my Tyt and my Baofengs. By messing it up, it puts the entries in an odd order. I'm hoping for some advice on this, while using Chirp in Linux. Thanks Glenn

[chirp_users] Fw: No USB Port Error

Well, I made a little progress with the USB problem, in Ubuntu. I installed a new live Ubuntu, on a thumb drive for a friend, and I installed Chirp for him, and plugged in my Kenwood and tried to download from radio, and first it did nothing. So I tried again, and I got the same error: error no 2 cannot find ttyUSB0 No such file or directory. And this was on a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.43 with updates installed. Just like on my other computer that had the same issue. So in doing a web search on the problem, I found a YouTube where the guy suggested using lsusb and he found the device in his case, on USB1. So I went to terminal and found the prolific on USB1 So then I found that in Chirp, it wasn't there before, I am fairly sure. So now I no longer get that error, but it still does not download from the radio, it just goes to the blank Chirp screen. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. So there is a problem with it finding usb0. Could it be that a different radio's cable might be using a serial assignment? Note, the cable I'm stuck with for now is a USB cable that should go with a digital radio, the Radioddity GD77-S, so I don't know if it has something different to the cable. Either run CHIRP as root or as your Linus user to the dialout group. I also have a Kenwood TH-F6a. CHIRP programs it in "live" mode. [chirp_users] BF-F8TD confirmation with chirp

I ordered the kid from Amazon that included the TIDRADIO "version" of what I believe is the BF-F8HP because it's 8 watt high, 4watt medium, and 1 watt low.I can confirm that the cable in the kits labeled it had FTDI chip worked with chirp, and my Linux machine running Linux mint 19.3. I did have to run chmod command before chirp had access to the USB0. Without the command it says access denied in chirp when I try to clone from radio.I followed protocol of how to plug in and in what order and it was able to download from radio with no issue. Max volume on radio.Also, I was able to select BF-F8HP as the device and was able to set power levels for each freq in low/Med/high. I was able to successfully download program to radio. I have no way to measure transmit power to know if it's actually 8 watt or actually has 3 power levels, since I haven't gotten my license yet and am just listening while I study. I also have no device to measure.I have heard that some shady companies are marketing these radios as 3 power levels and 8 watts on high and some hacking firmware to show 3 levels but only transmitting 4 watt on medium and high. But it does seem legit.TIDRADIO told me this was their OEM version of the BF-F8HP. BF-F8HP seems to be the BTech oem version. But I wanted to confirm that, at least with my Linux distro Linux mint 19.3 and chmod command, I was able to download to chirp and select the BF-F8HP as the model to set 3 power levels on frequencies. I will try on my windows machine but the way I see it, if it works on my Linux machine then it'll easily work on windows.

[chirp_users] Connecting TTo The Kenwood TH-F6

Hi All, I thought I'd try connecting the cable and radio to my windows computer with the Kenwood software. I was able to enable three different USB ports of the available 20 listed, without an error on selection. But on all of them, I get the error that the port timed out. In researching this on-line, one thing I found, that I don't know if it is right, is that someone said that in the Kenwood menus I need to switch the speaker out from speaker to data. I would think that if that is an option, that it would be the default option. Does anyone with a Kenwood know if this is the case in the menus? Since I cannot read the display, I can't look myself. I'm just trouble shooting before going back to the Chirp software. Glenn

Hello,I just received this radio and it's a collab version of the BF-F8HP between baofeng and TIDRADIO. My question is, when programming it, do I select the BF-F8HP so I can program low, medium, and hi or will I have to choose UV5R since the exact model isn't listed in the list? If uv5r will I be able to program all 3 power levels?Thanks :-)

Hi All, I've been chomping at the bit waiting for my cable for programming this radio, looks like it will come today. As some of you know, this radio can RX most all frequencies. So I was planning on putting in the 11-meter channels, as I have a list of all their frequencies. I'm wondering about programming the SSB for 11-meter, both LSB and USB. My question is, when putting in the frequencies into Chirp, do I just enter LSB or USB instead of AM in the band field with all the same frequencies as I used in AM? Or would I just switch bands on the radio while on a particular channel? Thanks. Glenn

I have a project in mind that needs a USB interface lead and since I have several Baofeng programming leads I thought I might cut the radio end off and be left with a TTL compatible lead. Is that the way these leads work or are they specific to the Baofeng radio? -- Regards, Phil
