[I figured I'd ask here first before opening a feature request in the issue tracker. If the answer is "no way", I'll pursue other programing methods.] There has been a lot of excited talk on the Baofeng Owner's Club Facebook group about the UV-17 Pro GPS. A number of people have received these radios and they're very interesting / nice, with a number of new features. CPS software 1.2.4 is available from: https://www.miklor.com/RadioSoftware/Baofeng%20UV-PROs%20v124.zip and is apparently generic for the UV-17/18/19/20/21/22 Pro. I believe some earlier investigation of other newer Baofeng models resulted in a determination that the memory format was un- like any other Baofeng / clone previously seen. But this does seem to be a [mostly] common format across a whole new series of radios. If needed, I can provide one UV-17 Pro GPS on loan for develop- ment and can contribute another to the lab for ongoing release testing.

Hello, I've come into possession of a Yaesu FT-90r dual-band 'micro' mobile radio, and I'd like to program it with my computer. I see several people offering cables for prices varying from $20-30, and I wondered if anyone here has advice on which cable to get/use? I like Blue Max 49ers ( https://bluemax49ers.com/product-explorer/yaesu-ft-90-ftdi-ct-29c-6-ft-radi… ), and their cable is right at about the mid-point of the price range ($26.95 w/ free shipping), but I thought I'd ask here first. Removing the old package and installing the new one worked, but there should be a more "efficient" method... Hello, First, I'd like to thank the team that created and maintains this great program. Such a useful tool. I'd like to report an issue with the program where the row height in the memory display is not sticky when the font size is changed to large font. "Once chirp is properly installed, upgrades to newer versions are done with two simple steps: 1. Download the newer .tar.gz file. 2. Run pip install --upgrade ./chirp-<version>.whl (use pipx if you used it above)" Since I'm running Ubuntu 23.04, I used "pipx" to install the latest CHIRP. Today, a new version came out so I downloaded the latest .whl version and ran "pipx install --upgrade ./chirp-20230601-py3-none-any.whl" But pipx doesn't have a "--upgrade" option to the install verb. If I try pipx without the "--upgrade" option, it tells me: 'chirp' already seems to be installed. Not modifying existing installation in '/home/jon/.local/pipx/venvs/chirp'. Pass '--force' to force installation. Should I "install --force" it? "pipx reinstall" doesn't work, since the new version isn't installed yet. Radio won't xmit. Just gets a beep like it is locked out of xmit. Uhf tx enabled (checked) in chirp. Busy channel lockout disabled. Same problem in vfo and mr modes. Ideas??

Hi All, I have a Tytera 9800, which is a clone of a Yaesu 8900. I set up some memories that I put in with Chirp, from a CSV file, and only one of the memories below seems to work. When I key up on the others, it makes a sound like it is breaking the squelch, if I turn up the squelch, it beeps when I key up on all of the below channels, other than #198 in the below list. #198 is for a 10 meter repeater I am hoping to get into at some point. But can anyone suggest why the other below memories aren't working? Thanks. Howdy All, I opened an edited CSV file, which originally came from Chirp. This is on a Tytera 9800. Using windows 10. So I downloaded from the radio, selected all memories and deleted them, and then opened an old Chirp CSV file, and I made some edits to it. It has around 227 channels in it. But it is really slow to populate the fields, and I can't get to the settings tab while it's working on the memories. Upload isn't available yet. It's been almost a half hour. Does this mean there is something amiss with my CSV file? I get no errors. I'm using chirp-next-20230515-installer.exe Thanks. Glenn

I've used Chirp for my HTs now for many years (thanks, developers!), and recently bought a Yaesu FTM6000 dual-band mobile. Its primary deficiency from my point of view is that it isn't supported by Chirp, for which reason I bought a third-party programming program and serial cable made by RT Systems. I'm not a fan of their business model of "Spend another $60 for a different (but actually near-identical) programming utility for every one of your different radios," so I view this as a one-time thing, and a way to give back by achieving Chirp support for this model. I would be delighted to use this equipment and my embedded hardware/software development skills to bring about Chirp support for this radio, but I would need some help from someone familiar with Chirp internals. In particular, my Python skills are rudimentary; I can write Python, but it's not my best language. Implementing this support on my own seems rather daunting. Here's what I can do well: - Run test cases for reading/writing configurations from and to the radio with the third-party software - Intercept the serial data streams at either the USB driver level or the RS-232 serial link level (it's my understanding that this radio does indeed use RS-232 levels and async serial communications). Wireshark and logic analyzers are my friends! - Analyze the serial data streams for this radio and compare them to samples of known Yaesu programming protocols for other models (I believe they tend to re-use the same protocol for many models) - Compile and run test builds of a modified Chirp build from a Git repo and test them Here's what I would need help with: - Someone familiar with Python, the Chirp drivers, and ideally Yaesu's programming protocols, to work on the Python code to adapt an existing Chirp driver for the FTM6000. Is there someone on the list who would be interested in working with me on adding support for this radio to Chirp? [chirp_users] Problems with Tenway UV 82 Pro

Newbie here. I am trying to get some radios working for our VFD. It is a very small area, so we don't have a lot of money for radios. I have all the frequencies from a neighboring VFD. Their radios are kenwood TK-5220. My problem is that the RX and TX are different frequencies. I have used the split to put in the TX frequency. After sending to the Tenway UV 82 Pro, I can receive voice, but I can not send voice. The Kenwood file shows a QT/DQT Dec and a QT/DQT Enc value. I do not know where to put this info. in the chirp software. Hi, I am working on fixing a couple fields in my CSV file for the Tytera 9800, and I noticed only about half of the cells under "tone" has the word tone in it, the rest are blank. Should I put the word tone in all of them? Will Chirp error if some are missing? And, on this, using Libre Office, is there a way to fill in missing cells with that value in all missing cells, using a keyboard, or would it be easier to fill down a blank column and paste it in over the column with the missing cell values? I think Anytone has a clone of this radio, or vice versa, but none of the Anytone choices in Chirp read this radio. Greetings, To my knowledge, the Baofeng UV-5R+PLUS is just a UV-5R with a metal plate holding the display on instead of the ultrasonically welded plastic piece. For the UV-5R+PLUS I saw that the main page of CHIRP recommends the use of Baofeng BF-F8HP which I noticed includes hi-med-lo power settings instead of hi-lo on the UV-5R+PLUS. I previously used UV-5R just fine and wonder why you don't recommend it instead? Or should your description on the main page say UV-5R+PLUS. Am I just misinterpreting your annotation of my radio should be UV-5R++? Jim

Just a note about the ic v80, I just noticed it's supported in the new version of Chirp. I've had one of these for a long time. I asked about support and was told they needed a Radio to test it. I offered my radio but no taker. I don't know it its been tested but I'll give a shot I installed the new Chirp and looked for my cable. Took a while, but I found it.. Guess what IT Works Thanks Gang I really like it...... John KE4EGC !!!!

I have a D710G I’m trying to upalcate using chirp. I have a baseline image taken with kenwood software as a backup that I’ve been rolling back to as I troubleshoot. I initially take a read from the radio (plugged into the radio, not the display) add new simplex and repeaters to memory, write to the radio and when it comes back up I have channels on the display(instead of frequencies it displays CH followed by the memory number) and no VFO mode or access to the menus. Any ideas where I’ve gone astray? Thanks Chris N2CDV

am new to this group, so don't beat me up to bad. i can not find the answer to this question, but I am sure it has been answered before. When trying to program in live mode, Swl, Aircraft, and other freq. not in the ham bands it stops and reports out of band. In clone mode it asks me to click on special channels toggle button of the memory editor. No toggle button to be found. Is their a way to program Rx freq. only with this software. Or... Buy a proper "Genuine" FTDI based cable. No more problems after that. If your supplier/seller cannot guarantee a genuine FTDI based product, look elsewhere. (Or build the cable assembly yourself.) If you use out of date hardware and drivers, & then have to stop Windows from updating, you are leaving yourself wide open to all sorts of other possible problems. If your PC then gets hit with something nasty, then others on the same network might be liable to getting bad stuff too. Just how much domestic trouble can you survive? You buy cheap, you often get poor quality. End of. (Why do some Ham's pay top$£€ etc for some rig's, then penny pinch on accessories?) 73. Hi, I downloaded the windows installer, but I am wondering how to install Chirp on Ubuntu now. On the chirp page, I entered on repository, and was taken to a github page. Does this mean we have to install Chirp through github, or is there still a repository we can add to Ubuntu? Thanks. Glenn

I just noticed that CHIRP accesses Repeater Book and when I try to download local repeaters around Marshfield misses W1ATD because it's listed only as DV. It only downloads when I check of DV. If you select FM only it doesn't download the information about W1ATD.. If you select DV only it downloads the info about W1ATD. Can this be fixed and can you have it fixed for everyone? AJ1L says: It doesn’t show if you just select FM only. It did come up if I didn’t limit certain modes though. Maybe you might want to drop them a note to let them know. 73 DAVID N1EA

Hi! I recently purchased this radio and there's no software that I can find for it. It seems to have a quite different way of programming than all the baofengs, SenHaix and others I've had. I've programmed the PMR channels by hand, but it was very time consuming and I don't know if there are some options I haven't accessed yet. If the model would be added, that'd be great. Thanks!

For Archie Miller and Jim Unroe Windows 11 Home does not show ports by default. However, if you open Device Manager and look at the top ribbon; there is a tab called view. Click on view and you will get a dropdown menu. If you click the option "Show hidden devices" a check mark will appear next to it. Now, look at the list of devices and you will have a tab for Ports (COM & LPT) displayed in the list. This should cure most of your problems.

Stumped. Windows 11 apparently doesn't have the [ports which were in W-10, and it's not intuitive to add new ports. I had been using CHIRP with a Yeasu FT-60R and a Baofeng. Hello all, I am not new to CHIRP but I'm setting up a new laptop and trying to manage memories on a (new to me) IC-7000. I am using a DigiRig radio interface which has a built in sound card, CI-V port and uses RTS of the same COM port to key PTT. When CHIRP Next 20230409 reads the radio it asserts RTS on the serial port which keys the transmitter. RTS nor DTR are needed for CI-V so CHIRP should not assume that the port requires flow control. This should be the default for all CI-V based radios but a pair of checkboxes on the initial READ RADIO dialog to disable either RTS or DTR or both would also solve this issue. I don't see a configuration dialog where port parameters can be changed. In the meantime I can disconnect the 13 pin accessory connector on the back of the radio to prevent it from keying. 73 Danny K5CG

No. The device manager already says "Flow Control: None". The radio doesn't key until I start reading data from the radio. CHIRP is setting RTS high when it opens the port. The chirp download site and the linux instructions have all been updated in the last few days. https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download and https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/ChirpOnLinux Dan and I worked together to iron those out for both the Ubuntu/debian versions and the fedora based versions, so those instructions should work on almost all current linux systems using python 3. Hi to all list members, I am Zvonimir stanecic from Croatia, 9a5dsz. I am using Crt mikron radio and i am trying to program mit, but i am facing the problem which is called inaccessible interface of the chirp daily. No matter the platform which i am using, Linux or Windows, i have the problem with NVDA screen reader to interact with the program controls via the keyboard. When i am arrowing with the arrow keys, screen reader doesn't read the content of the table in the memory tab, plus i cannot change settings on the settings tab of the chirp interface for the radio itself, because the interface is not accessible to the screen reader. What it should work in the case, is that all actions should be spoken by the screen reader. As i know, the accessibility adaptation can be done, because wx is used here to construct the dialog. Note that i can use the menu, plus select the radio and download from radio, plus upload to it, but for other options i need sighted assistance, which is not the option. Hi, first off I want to say thank you for this excellent software! I'd like to report some issues with the KG-UV9D Mate support. I have debugged some channel memory loading issues and would like to report my findings and suggested changes. I can report what works for my scenario but of course you may have more information about previously reported issues with this radio so my proposed changes are only suggestions on how to deal with the issues. My testing and debug has all been done with CHIRP-next from github.com/kk7ds/chirp, commit 60f989ccb337ad4a36a24bcc964948ae453c47cf and using the "KG-UV9D Plus" driver as recommended on a table I found on the website. There are 2 separate but related issues I've seen while using CHIRP-next. Issue #1: There are some valid channels in my radio that CHIRP doesn't see as valid. Example channels shown below that should be valid but aren't interpreted as valid by CHIRP: 1, 3, 4 The "valid" or "state" information for each of those channels is found in the second to last column of rows 1, 3, and 4 of the following: DEBUG: Config read (0xa00): 0x0a00: 00 dd d1 28 00 dc e6 c8 04 0b 04 0b 03 d0 01 00 ...(............ 0x0a10: 02 a6 71 a4 02 ae 12 c4 03 e8 03 e8 03 d0 02 00 ..q............. 0x0a30: 02 a1 d4 00 02 a9 75 20 03 e8 03 e8 03 d0 01 00 ......u ........ 0x0a60: 02 a1 63 b2 02 a9 04 d2 04 30 04 30 03 d0 80 00 ..c......0.0.... In other words, this dump shows that "state" values of 0x01 and 0x80 can be considered valid. In chirp/drivers/kguv9dplus.py I see the following related code starting at line 1423: if (_valid != MEM_VALID and _valid != 0 and _valid != 2 and _valid != 0x40): # In Issue #6995 we can find _valid values of 0 and 2 in the IMG # so these values should be treated like MEM_VALID. # state value of 0x40 found in deleted memory - still shows in CPS mem.empty = True return mem For context, MEM_VALID and MEM_INVALID definitions are: MEM_VALID = 0xfc MEM_INVALID = 0xff So it seems that CHIRP already has some exceptions to the idea that only a "state" value of 0xFC means a valid memory channel. Values 0, 2, and 0x40 were previously made exceptions and counted as valid memory channels. My memory dump shows that 0x1 and 0x80 should also be added to that list. Issue #2: I also encountered what is essentially the opposite problem. In my radio I don't have any valid channels after channel 314. However, CHIRP is interpreting the download from the radio as having channels 998 and 999 valid. This results in errors because the rest of the data for those channels is invalid. Channels 998 and 999 correspond to rows 2 and 3 of the below output (again, the "state" byte is the second to last column): DEBUG: Config read (0x4840): 0x4840: ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff fd ff ff ................ 0x4850: ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 00 00 00 00 0f 5d 00 00 .............].. 0x4870: ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff 00 00 00 00 0f 5d 00 00 .............].. 0x48a0: ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ................ So now we have an example of "state" value of 0 being used for an invalid channel memory. This is in contradiction to the existing code shown above that makes "state" value of 0 be interpreted as a valid channel. What I would propose here is that the exception for "state" values of 0, 2, 0x40 (and now 0x1 and 0x80) only be applied if the receive frequency is valid (i.e. not 0xFFFFFFFF) and the channel memory name is not blank. Hi All To run the python 2 version of chirp I would download the .tar.gz file and extract it to a directory. I would then open a terminal window in that directory. Then run Chirp with the following command Python Chirpw.py I am trying to run the python 3 version of chirp using the same method. My first problem is there is not any chirps.py file to run so I have no idea which file is the one I should run. My question is how do I run the latest version of chirp running the source code? Hello, Many years back, I remember there being a massive FTP server that had the motherload of default chirp images for many radios, mainly Baofeng/BTech, but other brands as well. The images were cleanly and carefully catalogued not only by brand and model, but by firmware versions. While I don’t need any of them at the moment, I was hoping to relocate this sever and just download (clone) the entire site. While I always do first download from new radios and save their default image, over time my files have become less organized, plus I had a recent drive failure. I’m looking to just make an entirely new index of default factory images and store them in several locations (including clouds). I just started putting a new archive together with what I still have, but if this site still exists it would make for a much easier starting point. The example terminal command under "Serial port permissions" should be.... *$ sudo adduser $USER dialout* Note: Just $USER and no quotes! The system of couse, will ask for the users password. Hi, I just downloaded the most recent CHIRP-next MacOS version chirp-next-20230311.app.zip on MacOS Ventura 13.2.1 on M1 processor. I was able to download from my radio and upload. I did find 2 possible issues that I did not find a bug report for. 1 - when I selected the download from radio, I selected the wrong port. After it could not connect, all options on all menu items were greyed out, I could not even quit Chirp. I had to kill it. Is this expected behavior? 2 - I had selected query source -> RepeaterBook. Selected state of Colorado, filter of a county, and Limit bands to 2 meter and 70 centimeter and ran ok. It came up with a list of repeaters. I then selected RepeaterBook again, selected another county, limit bands was not selected but when I clicked on it, it showed what I had selected before. Then had to click OK each time. Is this expected behavior? Would have been nice to already have it selected. Onrepeaterbook.com website you can filter by state and highway. Is this something you might be able to do in the future with chirp-next? Could be useful traveling cross country. I can write a bug report if needed. I have a new baofeng that was just given to me. The radio is UV-82L and was purchased by my ARC 2 or 3 years ago and programmed using chirp at that time. I wanted to update the programming but have not been able to do so with either chirp-next or the legacy chirp that is on the download site. The individual that originally programmed it does not remember which type of radio he used for the original programming. So far I have tried every supported baofeng model and the radioddity models as well but none are able to download the existing programming so it could be modified and updated. Does anyone have a clue if chirp is even able to communicate with this radio today? and if so then what brand/model should be used to do so? The club still has several of these that are used as door prizes and for club use. Jeff KI7GJG

[chirp_users] installing CHIRP-next problems

I run Fedpra Linux version 37 which has python 3.11 I have previously used CHIRP and am upgrading to the newer python3 version but am encountering several issues. Each time I try to launch the new version I get an error, and have been working through them one at a time (which mostly requires installing a python package not previously installed). I have, however, hit one that I cannot find the proper fix for. ---- File "/home/USERNAME/.local/lib/python3.11/site-packages/attrdict/mapping.py", line 4, in <module> from collections import Mapping ImportError: cannot import name 'Mapping' from 'collections' (/usr/lib64/python3.11/collections/__init__.py) [end of output] ---- Looking at the collections module installed for the system it does not seem to have the Mapping module as the error states and I cannot figure out how to fix that issue. Does someone with python experience have any suggestions? Jeff KI7GJG

Hi guys, I have a pair of BF888, I wanted to do some changes in their config after a long time. I run into the problem that my old cable with PL2023TA is not compatible with w11, the chirp next does not open any window on ubuntu 22.04 if I click download from radio, and if I install here the old chirp version, that downloads crap (loads my saved files also with bad data). Chirp next loads the saved config files correctly. I would like to focus on chirp next on u22.04 and make that work. Hello all, just a question before I post a feature request: in CHIRP next is there a way in UI to change the interface language? (at the moment it detects Windows locale and there is no way to change it other than deleting locale and po files) Thanks

[chirp_users] Need Help with Yaesu VX-3 and CHIRP

I have tried everything in the instructions and cannot get Chirp to communicate with the radio. As per the instructions, you turn the radio off, connect the USB cable, then turn on the radio while holding down the F/W key which puts the radio in CLONE mode which shows on the display. Then, you hit the band key and it tries to communicate with the radio. At first, it looks like it will work but after about 20 seconds ERROR appears in the display. I followed the instructions just as shown when you start the process, but always get the ERROR message. Just wondering if anyone has had success with the VX-3? WHat am I doing wrong?
