[chirp_users] Trouble down loading from VX-7R

Hello Support, I am having trouble downloading the frequencies from my VX-7R to create an image file. I have purchased the programming cable and I also had another cable neither will work. The radio will tell me clone error and the Chirp software will tell me "Failed to communicate with the radio". I have tried different Comm ports and I have tried different USB ports on my laptop. Thank you for your help on this matter.

For each of the problems described below. - Perhaps, it's a bug. - Perhaps, it's not a bug it's a feature. - Perhaps, it's the result of a prior operator error. At this time, nearly all of my channels are either imported from a stock configuration: US Calling Frequencies and NOAA Weather Alerts, or are the results of querying the RepeaterBook database. Each of these channel sets is saved in a .csv file. I create a .img file by: - downloading a .img file from the phone. - deleting all channels creating any empty .img file with appropriate driver information - importing appropriate .csv files into the empty .img - weeding unwanted channels - adding a couple channels - saving or exporting the result to a .img or .csv file One problem is the power column only appears in the .img file. It's missing in the .csv files. Unfortunately, it defaults to high power instead of low power. So, I have to change the setting for each channel from high to low power. Another problem is when I create a new .img using the above procedure. Many menu settings that apply to all channels are reset to their defaults. Then, I have to set them all to the desired configuration. By trial and error, I discovered that I can sort by comment, prefixing each comment with one or more asterisks. This groups the channels by the number of asterisks in the prefix and alphabetizes within the group. Unfortunately, the result of the is that adjusting the channels chosen for the configuration, or changing the comments results in having to change the power and change all the menu settings for settings that apply to all channels. There are a few channels from .csv files that are grayed out and will not import into the .img file. I have tried some experiments, gotten unexpected results, and am confused. [chirp_users] trouble with TM-D710G

Setup: Kenwood D710GA Lenovo ThinkPad circa 2013 Recent (about a month old) Ubuntu install CHIRP daily-20161220 Best Buy Insignia USB to Serial Adapter Cable PG-5H kit (w/PG-5G cable) Issues: 1) I need to connect the radio and start chirp in a very specific order, or chirp won't recognize the radio. That order is: a. Reboot computer b. Turn radio on c. connect radio to computer via PG-5G cable d. wait a few seconds (I assume so the operating system can recognize the serial adapter) e. start chirp At this point - Chirp allows me to "download form radio", and gives me the standard "live" warning. If I do not follow the above order, when I select port/kenwood/d710G and "ok", I just get a blank chirp screen. Now, before I get into the second issue - I should note that Chirp now takes forever as it downloads the data for all 1000 memory channels - when I only currently have about 20 programmed channels. Not a huge deal, but somewhat annoying. 2) I can edit the channels and import csv files no problem, but there doesn't seem to be any "live" updating of my radio! And being that the "upload to radio" option is not available, I have no way of forcing the update. Any ideas?

[chirp_users] programming cable problems

I use the latest version of Chirp downloaded about 10 days ago. It worked well and did all the programming I need for the Beofeng uv5r, (different cable) Btech UV 2501-220. I had a small computer problem and after correcting the computer problem I could program the Btech UV 2501 but the programming cables for the UV5R have a problem. The one that I used over and over now puts my UV5R in a transmit as soon as i plug it into the computer. The other cable gives me an error message that says the Commport (1-8 ) wont work. What do I do. Thanks for any ideas Dave KD0TUN

They now sell a 7 inch display for the raspberry pi 3 that lets you bolt the pi to the back of the display. It’s a touch screen. Load Chirp and away you go. I take mine in my car on long trips.. get a 12 volt to 5 volts converter and you have a great portable programmer.. Finding some older info via Google but not sure what current status is. I program a lot of radios with Chirp. Sometimes dozens in a day. I'd love to build a raspberry pi powered chirp programmer with a 2 line LCD and a few buttons. I can Do the hardware build and a Menu system easy enough. I just need to be able to run chirp and read / write images using the command line. Hello Michael, If I turn off bluetooth on my Mac, I will not be able to use my mouse or keyboard. Is there another way to get CHIRP to default to the correct USB port that my radio is connected to? I own a Baofeng BF-F8HP and the high end programming cable, but still cannot program my radio using my new MAC with OS X Sierra. When I try to link the radio to my computer, the CHIRP software defaults to my bluetooth port, not the FTDI Cable. I checked in System Information, USB ports, and my computer is seeing the cable, but CHIRP does not. How do I get CHIRP to see the correct cable and not my bluetooth port path? Hi! Elliott, KL4JC here; I've got a few things: - I've installed the KK7DS Python Runtime as required; it'd be really nice if some more information about this were included on CHIRP's pages. If nothing else, a link to an informational page about this package itself is an absolute minimum. (Having me install a `.pkg` with no explanation as to why? Please, no!) ... especially as Google yields effectively nothing (except my own query to the Homebrew issue-tracker from years ago, hah!) - I want to note that the (surprisingly up-to-date!) “macOS tips page” is, unfortunately, suddenly out-of-date again: there is a new GUI for *properly* authorizing unsigned apps, as of macOS Sierra 10.12.1: 1. Attempt to run the app, accept the denial; 2. open the “Security & Privacy > General” System Preferences pane; 3. and there will be a new, temporary modal specifically providing the opportunity to whitelist the most-recently-denied unsigned app (i.e. CHIRP): ![System Preferences prompting CIRP](http://ell.io/icpTv+) That should be a little more user-friendly, not to mention more secure, than having users undertake fragile command-line whitelisting of the entire directory! I got Yaesu FT2800M and was eager to use Chirp to program it. It failed reading data from this rig. It ends up with message: > An error has occurred > Failed to communicate with radio: Failed to read header I use CHIRP daily-20161123 but older versions did not work too. I tried reading with G4HFQ FTB2800 and it reads rig properly so I am sure my serial adapter works fine. I see I am not the only one with this issue. There are few reports on this issue on Chirp site but none got response. Hello, This is my first foray into China radios and Chirp. Yesterday I get a two-pack Baofeng UV5-RTP radios. I downloaded the latest build of Chirp (20161123). When I select "BF-F8HP" as per the FAQ, I get an "Incorrect Model" error. After downloading with the UV5-R model selection, firmware version reported is HN5RV01 1FB297 debug.log after testing with BF-F8HP and then UV5-R models attached. Hello, I have a Wouxun UV8D which I had programmed last year with an OEM cable with success. Yesterday I have attempted to add some new channels. Everything seemed normal at a first glance but then I have realized that the radio has no reception at all. The frequency, the channel name and all other parameters can be seen on the screen and as far as I can see it transmits on both VHF and UHF (checked with a scope) but no reception, anywhere. I have seen on the net that other people had similar problems, their radios becoming deaf after programming. Does anyone know what is the cause? And the cure? Another problem I have noticed (which didn't happen last year during programming) is that my Mac (a Macbook air) tend to freeze while using Chirp. Can it be something related to the latest build? 73, Caglar TA2UH

Many times it is caused by trying to put a program from an older radio into a newer radio with different firmware.. It bricks the squelch circuit.. You can go to MIKLOR.com to reinsert the proper firmware and make a new program..I have also experienced that problem.. It wasn't programming which caused the problem, it was plugging the programming cable in which caused it. The audio goes through the headphone jack socket so the internal speaker can be muted when a plug is inserted. If the contact hasn't sprung back properly then the internal speaker will stay muted. Does the RX light turn on when it receives a signal? You could try plugging a speaker/headphones into the socket and see if you hear the audio through that. Although I believe it's a 2.5mm jack plug you'll need! -- Andrew.

First time posting on this subscription list. I'm fairly new to radio stuff, just got a handful of ATR-22s off of Amazon by Amcrest. I am trying to program them through the CHIRP software but to no avail. Greetings, Just bought one of these units (Zastone MP300) and tried to program it with CHIRP without success. When I attempt to download from the radio I get a message 'Receiver did not respond' or sometimes using one of the other suggested radio models from the dropdown menu it say's: 'Radio did not go into clone mode' These responses are from various versions of CHIRP....older or latest I am using Windows XP PRO. [chirp_users] Trouble with programming ICOM IC-2200H

Was hoping I could find some help getting my IC-2200H programmed. I've tried downloading from the radio using a generic brand cable I bought off Amazon. The procedures I've tried: Example 1: 1) Put my Icom in cloning mode. 2) Select "Download from Radio" from the Radio menu in the Chirp application. 3) Verified the Port. Selected "Icom" as the vendor. And "IC-2200H" as the Model. 4) Click "OK" Result: Before I can even hit the button on my Icom that starts sending the data, Chirp briefly flashes the "Cloning" progress bar and then throws an error of "Unexpected response from Radio". Example 2: If I repeat the above steps, but instead select "Detect" as the Model, I immediately get an error saying it can't detect the radio. I didn't expect it to work, but I wanted to rule it out. Example 3: 1) Put my Icom in cloning mode. 2) Select "Download from Radio" from the Radio menu in the Chirp application. 3) Again Verified the Port, Vendor, and Model as stated above. 4) Before clicking "OK", I pressed the button on my Icom to start sending data. 5) Then I clicked "OK" in the Chirp application. Result: I tried this pressing the start button on the Icom before clicking "OK" in Chirp, and I've tried pressing them simultaneously. This method returns an error saying "Out of sync with radio". I've search through the archive and see the same errors I'm seeing, but on posts that are several years old. The responses usually recommend checking for a driver issue, but I've done that. The cable itself seems to be functional to some degree, at least to me. I wouldn't get the "Out of sync with radio" error if the application didn't receive anything at all, right? While I don't have another device to test this particular cable with, I do have another cable that I use to program my Baofeng UV-82 with. The alternate cable uses the same chip (PL2303) and therefor the same driver/module, and that works just fine. I am able to download and program my Baofeng without any issues. So to the best of my troubleshooting abilities, the cable doesn't seem likely. Additionally, the previous posts also reference Windows machines, but I am running Linux and I do not have a Windows computer at my disposal. I am also using the chirp-daily package on my system and made sure it was updated. Currently on "CHIRP daily-20161123" at the time of this writing. Any further suggestions would be appreciated. Hello all I have a 2 channel TK-863 mobile. I have the USB cable that should work with it. It comes up fine as a COM 5 but everytime I try to read the radio it errors out on CHIRP. It does change the radio display to light up both channel indicators when it starts to read. I'm guessing this is an indication it is trying to read. Does anyone have an idea on this or maybe have a file I could write into it first? Thanks! Ronny K4RJJ

[chirp_users] Baofeng 888s cable issue

I have a couple of 888s UHF radios and the cable I have for them is coming up on COM 3 Problem is the radio goes into transmit when connected to the cable and turned on. The cable has worked on my UV-5R radios before but now also puts them into transmit. The only thing that has changed is i have gone to a laptop (Windows 10) to a desktop machine (Also Windows 10). Regarding the LYT Q-18 Radio, check inside the Radio and on the Battery for where it was manufactured (probably China) and it should say which Company made it (it will not be LYT, that is just a Brand name), then research that Company on the Internet. If you find the Company email their Customer Service all the details including Serial # and Photos of it. More than likely it was made under contract and re-labelled for a Customer. This happened to me once and some Korean Company contracted 1,000s of HTs and re-labelled them. Not the original Model # at all. A little bit of Detective work for you. And they even found the original programming software for me too. Does anyone have the Factory Original Flash memory File for the Wouxun D901 DMR HT? My friends HT is still locked up. I cannot emphasize more to when buying any radio to reset it, save that File labelled Factory Original Settings, and work then using that File after saving it. He did not (along with many others). Interesting comments on the Baofeng BF 888s 16-Channel UHF HTs. I owned one briefly, did not have a programming issue with it using their Factory software. Also I used the RT Systems USB-K4Y Cable which works flawlessly. Those Generic Fake Prolific Cables seem to be hit or miss. You must make sure Windows does not automatically search its Database for the real Prolific Chip Driver. So have your supplied CD disk handy and install it ONLY. Also, be careful Windows during its daily Windows Update does not automatically reinstall the real Prolific driver while you are not looking. Happened to me once, very annoying. I installed them one by one from the most recent to the oldest to find out exactly which driver was the absolute latest that would work with a counterfeit Prolific chip. The answer was v3.3.2.105. But although this driver works great with CHIRP, it is incompatible with most programming software written for Chinese radios. So my testing continued. It wasn't until I got to the Prolific v3.2.0.0 driver that it would work with all of my programming software. And it works with the latest Prolific chips as well. As you can see from the attached screen capture, I have 4 Prolific drivers installed in my Windows 7 64-bit computer. I can switch between these driver versions at will to determine if a Prolific type chip is genuine. So if you have a programming cable with a Prolfic type chip, there is no need to test if it is genuine or not. Genuine Prolific chips are rare. Out of some 20+ Prolific type chip based cables that I have here, I only have 2 that know are genuine. One came from a now out of business dealer. The description stated that it contained a genuine Prolfic chip. It cost $10 more than the non-genuine version that they also sold. The second came with (but was purchased separately) a Wouxun KG-UV6D V2 radio that I purchased from a USA dealer. So if you run Windows XP or above, the non-destructive test to determine if the Prolific type chip in your programming cable is genuine is pretty simple. Plug it into the USB port and wait for the latest Prolific driver to install. Then try it out. then if it works (not likely) it has a genuine Prolific chip. If it doesn't work (very likely) it has a counterfeit chip. But if you already have the programming cable, it is too late to worry about which type of Prolific chip is in it (genuine or counterfeit). Just download, install and select the older Prolific driver (it works for both). v2.0.2.1 Windows XP v3.2.0.0 Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 If the idea is to avoid the hassle of dealing with counterfeit Prolific type chips, then note the following. A genuine Baofeng (the radio manufacturer based in China) programming cable is virtually guaranteed to have a counterfeit Prolific chip. If the listing states that the programming cable only works with older versions of Windows or states that it does not work with the latest versions of Windows, it is a good bet that is will have a counterfeit Prolific chip. The same goes for listings where there is no mention of the chip the programming cable contains. So the best thing to do to avoid the driver hassle is to look for a cable with an FTDI type chip. Even FTDI chips can be counterfeit, but even the counterfeit chips currently work with the latest available device drivers. Although I mostly use Prolific type chips here, I do have some with genuine FTDI chips. My source for the last few has been Baofeng Tech (the radio dealer based in the USA). I was intending to make some programming changes but find that some of the radios will enter programming mode and some will not. Wondering if you have heard of this before? Greetings CHIRP users. When i program my UV-5 or my GT-3TP and upload the new frequencies to the radio, both VFO (A & B) end up with the same frequencies list...in essence a copy of each other. How do I program A with one set and B with a different set? Thanks Eric VE7ECJ (Canada)

[chirp_users] Baofeng UV -6R programming?

I picked up a Baofeng UV-6R I finally got it programmed, only problems I had was the error message sayng 0.0000 was out of limits for my receive only frequencies. but got by that. Now I would like to change my Welcome message but I can't get it to change. settings are set in my files but when I got to load the radio it goes back to the default. Anyone have a fix for this ?

I don't know what setting it is, but you have to tell the radio what to display on power on. Check your menu settings for such an option. Partially addresses #699 This patch adds basic support for the DJ-G7EG. The patch was tested on Linux and Windows 7 and can reliably download memories from, and upload memories to the radio. Other flavours of the DJ-G7 are not supported yet because I don't know whether they use the same memory map or not. The patch introduces a new class to the alinco.py driver. This is some- what unfortunate because the radios supported by alinco.py so far are all quite similar. The DJ-G7EG is considerably more different from the others, yet still sufficiently similar to re-use some of the methods implemented in AlincoStyleRadio. I'll leave it up to the reviewers to comment on that. Code that might be of particular interest to reviewers is marked with "FIXME" comments. The patch does not support changing bank assignments, groups, and/or radio settings. I am planning to add dynamic bank assignements as soon as I have figured out how to do this best with Chirp. I have a FT1D and had similar problem. Cable would not work with RT systems software.. had to use a micro sd card with RT program. When the cable is inserted, the kernel doesn't load the serial USB module. "modinfo pl2303" doesn't list this Yeasu cable's PID/VID. Does anyone have a copy on file of the original Flash memory for the Baofeng D901 DMR HT? A friend bought one and somehow locked up the new HT. A VFO reset would not work. Any suggestions? Other than another D901 Clone-to-Clone Data transfer perhaps. Had a similar problem with another new UV-5R although I managed to reset it okay. This is why I emphasize when buying any radio, new or used to get a VFO image file of that single radio on disk in case this happens. Kenneth Strom VA3KRS

I picked up my general license this year due to an incident I was involved in -- remote accident with no communications. Just sucked. Should have studied for the extra license too and gotten them all over on the same day. Anyway, I picked up a new Yaesu FT2D yesterday. I'm trying to get over the programming hump. In the box with the FT2D was a USB programming cable. Win7: Yeasu in-the-box supplied Prolific cable and driver from Yeasu's web site won't run. v1.8 driver fails to install. I downloaded and the latest v1.16 driver from Prolific's web site, still no love. Ubutnu 14.04 LTS: Now it gets interesting. lsubb reports PID/VID for this cable: Bus 005 Device 016: ID 26aa:0001 The pl2303 kernel module doesn't recognize this PID/VID as a serial device. When the cable is inserted, the kernel doesn't load the serial USB module. "modinfo pl2303" doesn't list this Yeasu cable's PID/VID. Last month I bought a Liexen vv-898s. It has taken me a good while to figure out how to use the software that came with it. I can work repeaters, however I have to set the squelch at zero in order to receive. Even with a 7db antenna at 30 at the base. The version I have is 1.05. I understand that the chirp software at the moment does not work with this version. What can I do? This TXCVR fits perfectly in my 2016 Nissan Frontier. I really want to keep it. Hi, Initially, I had a friend load in my Baofeng UV5R from his database, with some other program, not Chirp. That worked fine, and then I started using Chirp on my Ubuntu, and with great accessibility, I subscribed to Radio Reference and downloaded some local stuff into my database, and all was good. Then I noticed that I lost all my weather radio stations, they were in the 80s. I can go back to an old Chirp database and find them there, but I am wondering if there is a way to import selected rows from the old database and moving them into the new one, over-writing the ones in the new database, in the same row numbers. I would like to learn to do this without re-writing them by hand. Thanks. Glenn

I have used Chirp with Baofeng and BTech radios. I may have the occasion to program some retevis rt-5rv radios. They look quite similar to the retevis rt-5r (with just the addition of a chrome screen over the speaker), and appear to be like the Baofeng UV-5r radios. I assume that they are part of the same family as the Baofeng 5 series radios. Chirp does have an entry for the retevis rt-5r, but not for the retevis rt-5rV variant. I expect that they are functionally the same (for programming basic functionality e.g. channels, channel names etc.), but can anybody confirm that they can be programmed with the 5R selected? -- Tom Simonson, Alameda CA (tom(a)tsimonson.com)

I have made changes to the file and tried to save it to my computer which I am running windows 10 but the save, save as, and open tab didn't work. By clicking on any of the three tab dose nothing. Before I opened up a bug ticket, I wanted to reach out to the mailing list to see if anyone else can direct me to a solution. I'm attempting to program a Wouxon KG-UV8D transmitter for someone else. I'm using the Chirp Daily Build (20161018) with a true serial cable connection. This cable works fine on my Kenwood and Baofeng radios, so I'm hoping this is the same cable. I've used this cable in the past on older Wouxon Radios without issues. The radio will not talk to the Wouxon software, and when I attempt to read the radio via Chirp, I receive an error. I'm thinking that this is a new radio and that the firmware has changed slightly, and now Chirp won't handshake. The error I receive when attempting to read the radio is "Failed to communicate with radio: ord() expected a character, but string of length 0 found" Any help would be appreciated. I know this is a common problem but I have tried all the "usual" things with no success. I am on my second programming cable after the first one just didn't get recognised as a USB device, and first attempt I was able to download the contents of my radio. Since then however it's not worked again. The cable works OK and the drivers are loaded, as confirmed by opening a serial terminal, linking the TX and RX pins and observing loopback. The radio goes into TX when powered on with the cable attached and some vicious connector trimming doesn't help - I am sure it is going all the way in. Following the order in the Chirp pop-up instructions (cable is already connected to PC and correct serial port selected, radio off, connect cable, radio on with volume right up, check no activity, click OK) doesn't help. The radio goes into TX as soon as it's booted and after a few seconds I get "Radio did not respond". The radio does *not* go into TX if I have that port open in a serial terminal when I turn the radio on, and presumably if Chirp opened the port when the instructional message is displayed (before the radio is turned on) but still waited for the user to click OK before trying to communicate all would work? I think that the one time it did work it might have been TX-ing and I just got lucky that it didn't interfere with communications - I do remember some interference on my monitor which I now know happens when the radio transmits. Anyone got any good ideas? Given that the radio doesn't go into transmit mode when the serial port is open I can't see how it can be bad cable / poor connections. This is on Linux Mate 1.12.1, with the current daily Chirp build. My user is in the dialout group and has serial port access. Thanks Richard

I bought a cheap one from ebay... windows keeps throwing it's toys out of the pram with drivers, but I have worked out what I need to do with that now. Hi all, I am currently working on a project to build an enhanced Fox Hunt set with a few features, most notably the ability to change broadcast frequency on a BOAFENG GT-3 and send a message by reading text from a CSV and putting this through Text to Speak. I currently have everything working except for the ability to make frequency changes through the command line. Can anyone point me in the direction of the correct documentation or give me a quick rundown of the console commands needed to either change the frequency or replace the pre programmed frequency list on the fly via the Linux console? Fully aware I may be going about this an arse about backwards way, so if there is a better way of achieving this I am all ears. Regards, Randie

Hi, The discussion of the iCom made me wonder if I would be able to dig out my old HTX 202 that I got from Radio Shack about 25 years ago. It was based on some iCom model, and my old radio has the same microphone plug on the top as the one on my current radio. The antenna and squelch and volume buttons might get in the way though. I see your point, John, but disagree. This list is advertised as a list of thousands of experts. I showed up locally to help someone who asked for it, and brought along CHIRP on my laptop because I use it for my BAOFENG radios. I also use RT, but for other radios. And yet another for my Kenwood. Personal choices, all. The person I am helping doesn't have my level of tech, so he needs some support. Same goes for me, wrt BAOFENG.. I don't know what the "radio type" is, and I didn't see it in CHIRP. I posted here in the hopes that someone could shed light on the question. I'll be following up on Fred's behalf with the radio vendor, RT Systems, and, now, here. I know ;-) this is a chirp list. Well, a ham asked for my help. He had recently purchased 2 UV-5R from the same vendor. He uses RTS, and wanted to be able to help some new hams, so he figured that he'd make their radios (those UV-5R) just like his UV-5RA. One of the radios worked OK, the other not. I went over and tried CHIRP. It read and wrote to both the 5RA and the 5R. Then we tried with RTS. RTS would download from the UV-5R, but when it tried to upload, we got an error. BAOFENG UV-5R type 5831FFFFFFFFF BAOFENG UV-5R type 5804010000000 Didn't say what it expected, but I am guessing the first type code. Tomorrow (2016-10-24), I intend to contact RTS and the radio vendor, but I figured that I'd drop a note here in case this is familiar to any of you. BAOFENG UV-5R Version BFB297 Firmware HN5RV01 1 141006N 3+ON gives bfb297 6+ON gives 150304N ?? Not sure Thanks, ~R~

I have run into problems trying to CLONE from a saved file a couple different Baeofeng UV 5 R radios and I get the message that they have different firmware and could not accomplish the CLOANING but I was able to do it without any problems using RT SYSTEMS UV5R program ? I’ve seen this sort of thing posted before on the list but I haven’t noticed a fix or workaround. I’m running OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) on a Macbook Pro. Last weekend I bought a brand new Icom ID-880H after checking to make sure that it’s supported according to the Chirp wiki. This afternoon I got a FTDI-based USB cable from BlueMax49 and figured I’d clone my radio, then upload the results back. I was able to successfully clone the memory, so it looks like the drivers and cable are working, and I noticed that Chirp includes D-STAR information - something I’d never had call to notice before as this is my first D-STAR capable radio! Well done! Unfortunately, when I changed one tone setting and gave the channels labels, then went to upload the information back to the radio, the Chirp progress bar went all the way to the right, but then I got an error message: “Failed to communicate with radio: Did not get clone result from radio” That’s not the worst part, though. After Chirp errors out the radio is stuck at “CL IN”. When I shut the radio off and turn it back on again the display says CLEAR, then the ICOM banner and finally the radio is back to a factory restored state. All of the memories I programmed in over the weekend are gone. Happily, they are stored in a .img file on the Mac; unhappily, I can’t seem to get the file to load into the radio. For what it’s worth, I get the same error when I try to upload an image with only one memory slot filled in. Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround? What can I do to get Chirp working? I’ve been using the software for years and this is the first problem I’ve had with it. I can send a copy of the .img file if you need me to. Thanks. -- Creede Lambard Sent with Airmail

Trying to download radio image fails with the following error: “An error has occurred Error reading data from radio: not the amount of data we want” Radio is a BTECH UV-5X3. Using latest Chirp build (downloaded this morning). Running on Mac, 10.10.5 (Yosemite). Python runtime is installed. I don’t see anything relevant in the FAQ or in recent threads on the list. I tried resetting the radio to its defaults - no change, same error. Any ideas? Jeff

Chirp seems to update correctly under Ubuntu 16.10 provided that the repository used is the same as that for Xenial. For completeness, might it be possible to copy the Xenial PPA as the Yakkety version so that adding the repository under Yakkety does not generate an error when attempting a software update? Greetings from New Zealand. I am trying to Identify a Baofeng radio that I was given some 6 months ago. It is labelled BF-UVB2 PLUS but it does not look like those on web pages . It has the appearance of a UV-82. I have tried all the "chirp" Baofeng models, but none worked. Most common response "Radio did not respond" Any suggestions. Works fine with manual programming. [chirp_users] Can't download from Yaesu FT-817

Hello, I am having a heck of a time trying to start the process of programming my ft817 by doing the initial download. I bought one cable, and after multiple failures using both Mac and PC, I bought another cable, the more expensive one. On the Mac side, I’ve downloaded and installed the ftdi drivers from here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm . Still does not work. The radio just goes into “error”. I’m not getting an error message from Chirp. The Radio screen just starts flashing “Error” a few seconds after I put it into transmit mode. The Drivers appear to be working as the download dialog shows “dev/cu.usbserial-AI04KBP8” as an option. I really don’t have any idea what else to try. On the PC side, (under parallels), under “Devices” I connect the FT232R USB UART to the PC. Same thing happens. I go to download from radio, now “Com6” is what shows up, when I hit transmit it just errors out after a few seconds. No error message from CHIRP. The clone dialog just sits there open. Would sure appreciate any suggestions.
