[chirp_users] Easy Way to Print Baofeng Channel Listing

I am an old guy who just recently got back into Amateur Radio after fifty years and my first purchase was a Baofeng UV-82HP to experiment with on two meters. Kudos to the people who gave Chirp to the World, however, I think I need a Cheat Sheet of sorts so I would like to print the channel listing when I clone my radio. Dan, I cannot delete the chirp daily installation file from Explorer on 10. This has happened to me twice, it's not every time with every file. I have to go to a dos prompt to delete. [chirp_users] More communications problems

My problems continue. I have a Yaesu VX-6R and am using Chirp on a Mac. My prior issue was an incompatibility between my operating system and the USB driver. I can now communicate and download from my radio to my computer. But, I cannot upload from the computer to the radio. When I try to upload, the process starts and I can see the blue progress bar. Then, the radio reports an "Error" and Chirp just sits there doing nothing. I have tried downloading the one programmed frequency and then immediately uploading it, but get the error described above. I have also tried with data I enter directly into Chirp. Any ideas?

[chirp_users] Mac to Vaesu communication problem

I am using a Mac with OS 10.6.8. I want to use Chirp to communicate with a Yaesu VX-6R. I have a USB cable from RT Systems specifically designated for the Yaesu. I installed the driver and my computer says it recognizes the USB cable. I installed a version of Chirp and it does not crash. When I try to download from my radio using Command-D, I get a window for selecting the Port, Vendor, and model. Under the choice for Port, I get two options: "/dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync" and "/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem". When I try with "/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem", it immediately tells me it cannot open the port. When I try with " /dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync", it tries to do something and then errors out, saying: "Failed to communicate with the radio." Any ideas on what is wrong or what I can do to fix it?

[chirp_users] IC-92AD Band edge issues

I am still getting a lot of errors when I try to work with my IC-92AD. Has this radio been abandoned? Wenlock and I both have observed the same sort of errors, but we are not sure what needs to be done. If the radio is abandoned perhaps it should be taken off of the supported list. If someone can give us some guidance as to where to poke we can try to do as much as possible. But at this point I for sure do not know much more than what Wenlock has ob- served it appears to be an issue with the The present machine running Ubuntu Mate 18.04 CPU i7 Memory 16G As I recall this was one of the first radios Chirp was aimed at. Will chirp connect to and program commercial Kenwood TK-805 radios? I have several and always screw up the microphone programming method. Folks, Decided that I would go through my 92AD, remove a few frequencies I do not use, add some and add my hotspot so I can try DStar on a hot spot. See a lot of strange things like reading 849 memories (should only go to 799) and one or other bank screens blank. Looked at the bug reports and see all off what I see (Thank you Winlock) so just out of a whim I look at the date of the code, says 20170714. I see that the latest and greatest 20180623. I have the snapshots ppa enabled but for some reason it is not pulling down the latest and greatest. Any ideas? I am running Ubunut Mate 18.04 -- Chirp + Editcp + MD380Tools on Linux Celestial!!! When I use Chirp to set radio channels, there are many columns I cannot let empty, unless I cannot save it or uploat to radio. Most repeaters here have no subtone and I cannot let tone column empty, or null or zero. In chirp, there is a preseted tone list from 67.0 to 254.1. When I power on the transceiver in frequency mode and ajust to repeater channel, I can hear people talking normally. When I power on in channel mode and choose the respective channel with the same frequency, I cannot hear people talking. Pearhaps, tone values are wrong and in most cases they are unnecessary. How to I solve this? I have a Baofeng UV-82 WITH 8 Watts (HP). Firmware 3 KEY: N822413 6 KEY: 140902N TKS PU4YOU

I am attempting to program a Jetstream JT270M using a Prolific cable. The CHIRP Error message pop-up says An error has occurred could not open com4 (Error 2) The system can not find the file specified. In the WIN10 Device manager listing for COM4 it says Driver provide is prolific Date is 10-17-2017 Version is 3.8.18.0 Device status is This device cannot start. Thanks for all the work you guys do on Dan Planet. I have a Btech UV-50X2 and have cloned the radio file successfully, added frequencies using the "import from stock config" lists, downloaded the freq's to the radio and have used them no problem. I wanted to add about 150 channels using the import function. I read the CSV how to page: https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/CSV_HowTo and watched youtube videos of others creating and importing CSV files. I looked through the 2018 and most of the 2017 archives and couldn't find anything pertinent. I''m experiencing a problem. I exported my radio's channel list and created an initial CSV file to work on. In the file, I don't see any dimmed out channels after the last channel like I see on youtube. When I open the CSV file in Excel, I see the coulumns headers and channel data as expected. I copy pasted frequencies and channel names and inserted sequential channel numbers and saved the new CSV file. When I use CHIRP to upload the channels from the CSV file which has the old channels and the channels, the program gives me an error for every new channel I added in this example channel #35: Line 35: [rtone] could not convert string to float: After hitting OK, I discover none of the new channels imported. Also when I open the CSV file in CHIRP to examine it, I get the same error and only see the original channels. I opened the CSV file using notepad and I didn't see any difference between the original channels and the old channels. I can enter the frequencies manually but who wants to do all that typing. Does anyone know why the new channels can't be imported? If it helps I copy pasted lines of the CSV file below... Thanks. Hello all, This is not stricly Chirp related but I need you help on programming my radios with selective DCS. I use the radios in a car racing team and I need to be abe to talk to this car or that car but also to all the cars at the same time. I have made a setup which runs fine to speak to each car individualy but I can't talk to all of them at the same time, here's what I did. Same frequency for all channels DCS RX specific to each car (X for car 1, Y for car 2, etc.....) No DCS TX on the cars radios so that when the driver speaks everyone car hear it (except the other cars of course) I made several channels on the pit radios with a matching DCS TX for car 1, car 2 and no DCS at all to be able to talk to the other pits radios) I'd like to make a new DCS RX on all cars (200) so that I could talk to ALL cars at the same time but when I program it on the cars radios it does not work, the car does not receive it. I made a dual watch so that the car receiving radio should switch from the "this car only" channel to the "all cars channel" but somehow it does not receive. What did I do wrong ? Hello, It's been over a month that I'm trying to program a BAOFENG UV-8D, I tried multiple cordosn without success, I just found one among four !! To program I put a driver for the BAOFENG UV-8D is "USB-SERIAL CH340 (COM4), the communication is perfect For the program I used UV-8 Serie Sofwarre Program and there it works there is a communication in the BAOFENG UV8D and my PC an ASUS X550L with Windows 8.1. I'm going to try more with other Walkie Talkies !! This cord, by chance only works for the UV-8D 73s Pierre F6CTB

Just replace the damaged cap's (a not an uncommon problem by the way for a system of that age!) Google for "Bad Cap problems" or "capacitor plague" Not confined to computers or motherboards only either. I've replaced several such parts on a few similar aged PC's of my own over time. If you can't physically do it, there are places that can, at a cost. If you have a Windows 7 recovery CD, and the licence numbers, just spin up a VirtualBox VM under Linux, and run Win7 in that. Job done. V-Box on some systems will allow you to use "seamless" mode, where you can have both Windows and Linux app's running on the same desktop (or looking like it at least.) Just put the Windows, or Linux Taskbar at the top of the screen, and the other at the bottom (or sides.) I used to run Linux like that on a Win 7 box, before I got utterly p'd off with Windows. Though convenient when it's working, it's a lot of egg's in one basket, and can be a bit of a task to set-up and get working "just so". It's also trivial to map Linux's /dev/ttyUSBx serial ports, to appear under Windows as COMx as well. Very well documented, and works well. If you stick with Win 10, research and find out how to hog-tie/deactivate much of it's "phone home" functionality. It's seriously leaky (potentially privacy wise) if you just activated it with the default settings it suggests. Also, if you use Cortana, configure her NOT to be active when the computer is "locked". 73. I have 3 UV-5R's All three of them need their own *.img file because they have different firmwares. They are all programmed with same channels and settings and all work fairly well for what I need. However, believe it or not, one of them WILL NOT work with my J-Pole antenna. When I say 'will not work' I mean I can't hit any of the repeaters I normally use. It works perfectly, in fact really well with supplied antenna and with my dual band home made ground plane. With my MFJ power meter it also shows a full watt more output power than the other 2? Hello all, This is not stricly Chirp related but I need you help on programming my radios with selective DCS. I use the radios in a car racing team and I need to be abe to talk to this car or that car but also to all the cars at the same time. I have made a setup which runs fine to speak to each car individualy but I can't talk to all of them at the same time, here's what I did. Same frequency for all channels DCS RX specific to each car (X for car 1, Y for car 2, etc.....) No DCS TX on the cars radios so that when the driver speaks everyone car hear it (except the other cars of course) I made several channels on the pit radios with a matching DCS TX for car 1, car 2 and no DCS at all to be able to talk to the other pits radios) I'd like to make a new DCS RX on all cars (200) so that I could talk to ALL cars at the same time but when I program it on the cars radios it does not work, the car does not receive it. I made a dual watch so that the car receiving radio should switch from the "this car only" channel to the "all cars channel" but somehow it does not receive. What did I do wrong ? Hi. What's up with the "Register" page on the main Chirp site? https://chirp.danplanet.com/account/register I've just tried three times to register, and each time it bombs with unknown user or password when I'm invited to login, after it tell's me I successfuly created an account. There is no mention of needing to wait for any acceptance.. The password reset link (when invoked) comes to me, and shows my as requested login "username" just fine. The new password is accepted OK with no errors, but the resulting new login fails. The requirements for the "password" are listed as:- / Must be at least 4 characters long. /(Is that all?)/ / I tend to use much more than that (12 in this case) so is that the problem? Upper/Lower case letters and numbers. I'm doing this using FireFox from the UK, it's not a GDPR blockage for non US users it is? What else might be wrong? Comments? 73. Dave B. The TYT cable is just a straight through cable. CHIRP would need a lot of functionality added to support dmr. First, the radio is like a "model 3" Motorola in that you need a zone/channel assignment. You'd need to implement this to use analog only. Then, to do dmr, you need timeslot, color code, and contacts. For each channel it will need an individual or group contact set, as well as an optional RX group list. You'll need to have the ability to edit the contacts and group lists. Not by any means saying it's impossible but it would be a big chunk of architecture to add to a package that only implements analog for the time being. Hooked my new quad-band TH-9800 up to my Linux laptop, today. Used the cable supplied with the radio. Was able to download from the radio without a problem. After setting up all the repeaters, etc. I wanted, tried to upload. Received an error message that said: Failed to communicate with the radio. There are ways in Windows to fix a USB/Serial device's identity, so that it always shows up at the same COM number each time, or at known different (but predictable) ones depending on which USB hole you connect it to. For example, see the info here:- http://www.w1hkj.com/doku/doku.php?id=howto:taming_the_wild_comport_in_wind… As well as telling Windows 10 (if that's what you use) to allow applications to access to that port. Take care, ANY USB system re-enumeration (that happens when you plug in / power up an attached device, or unplug / power down a device) can cause a COM port to be re-assigned. Note too, that any USB hub's put in-between the PC and device, makes it a whole new ball game. Under Linux, look up how to use "udev rules", where so long as the USB device has something unique about it's identity (a serial number for example) a similar trick can be done. Note though, many Prolific (and clone) devices do not have any unique identity compared to many of their brethren! FTDI devices usually have a unique per-device serial number string somewhere. I only have one SiLab's device, so can't say about them. This radio was programmed with Chirp over a year ago. It has and is working correctly. However, I would like to change some parameters. Clicked Download from radio,did the ok windows and the cloning window took only seconds to finish. However none of the freqs or other info showed on the spreadsheet columns. The search results for Errno 13 all stated that it wasn't a CHIRP problem, but rather a computer problem. I can't confirm either way, but want to pass along what worked for me. I tried to uninstall CHIRP from the APPS in settings, but it couldn't find CHIRP. I went to the CHIRP folder and ran the uninstall.exe from there. Then I found and deleted every CHIRP file remaining before reinstalling. Do not trust the uninstall to remove leftover files and folders. It seems to require a total purge rather than a normal uninstall, but at least its running again. Thanks to those who offered help! It's been over a year since I used Chirp on my Windows 10 laptop, at which time it worked fine. I installed new daily builds about a week ago and today. Chirp fails to load presenting the following error: The logfile'C:\Program Files(x86)\Chirp\chirpw.exe.log' could not be opened: [Errno 13]Permission denied:'C:\\ Program Files(x86)\\Chirp\\chirpw.exe.log <file:///\\Chirp\chirpw.exe.log> ' After the attempt a week ago, I uninstalled Chirp and reinstalled from the Daily Build. There is no chirpw.exe.log on the computer. Today's Daily Build did not improve the situation. I installed the Daily Build on my Windows 7 laptop and Chirp functions fine. When attempting to program BTech UV-50X3, I am unable to find the option to change the frequency range as it seems to have been limited somehow on my rig. Certain frequencies i.e. any amateur repeaters between 440.***Mhz and 446.*** Mhz can be programmed into CHIRP but the radio does not accept them and when I download the image from it they are zeroed out. Is there an earlier build which had this capability in the settings options that was possible changed by the one from whom I bought the rig, but with updated builds the option was eliminated?

I had found mention linking Errno 13 to anti-virus. I'm running the standard Avira and Malwarebytes Premium. I disabled Avira and individually disabled Web Protection, Exploit Protection, Malware Protection, and Ransomware Protection in Malwarebytes. Still the error. I actually couldn't locate the firewall settings to check that (Win 10 version 1709). I have a Valley Enterprises FTDI cable RPC-Y29C-UF and trying to use with Yaesu-FT90R. I first tried this on my Mac which works for my other Wooxun. I launch Chirp and select Download from Radio. After I selected my model radio and port /dev/cu.usbserial-A105ZGRL I see the message about Putting into clone mode. I did this and it says CLONE on the display, I then plug in and continue. [chirp_users] CHIRP Not Communicating With ComputerS

I have not had to do anything with my Baofeng and Yaesu radios for quite a while but our group has added some new frequencies so it time to update. Neither my Yaesu VX-6Rs nor my Baofeng UV-5Rs will communicate with either my Linux Netbook or my WIndows 10 computers. In the case of the Linux box, I have added my user name to the Dialout group then rebooted. In the case of the Windows machines I have changed the Baofeng cable to the Prolific 3.2.0.0 driver that I downloaded today from the Miklor site. The Yaesu cable is an FTDI cable and was always recognized previously. The cables are fully inserted in each case and the volume is maxed out. Device Manager shows both cables as working. The Baofeng cable reports as COM7 and the Yaesu cable as COM6 I'm never surprised with the Windows machines need some tinkering to work but CHIRP and Linux have always worked will in the past. What am I missing. I suspect it's something simple. Many thanks for reading. Tom

I have a Kenwood 372G (1). The radio shows - PC- and CHIRP seems to indicate everything is going smooth (cloning) until the very end. The radios are for work and I only want to leave commercial frequencies in it. I guess I haven't figured out how to report an issue, so bear with me for posting here. The debug file is attached. The errors above the one in the subject got corrected and can be ignored, I think. Thanks.

IC 7100 downloads info however unable to use chirp to upload the DR DStar repeater csv. unrecognized format is response. File generated by Dstarinfo.com DR file creator. their files work on TH D74 id 5100 etc. Missing fields as well as unable to update dstar mgmt screens. Thanks Keith W5KB

I've picked up a Baofeng DM-5R, V3 as seen here: https://www.fleetwooddp.com/products/pre-order-baofeng-dm-5r-v3-2018-digita… It shows up as BF-5R on the boot screen, but neither that nor DM-5R are listed as supported. I did see though that there are other Baofeng radios under new and unusual names, that might be supported as a variant of one that is known. If there is a way to tell if this is the case, I'm open to suggestions. The Windows software from the manufacturer does detect and read the config from the radio, but the USB device (radio with supplied cable) shows up in settings Win 10 settings as, "MCU MOUSE DEMO", under the "Bluetooth and other Devices" section. When I try to read from the radio in Chirp, there is nothing shown under Ports in the drop down. I can select Baofeng as the vendor, and a number of other models are listed. Similarly, under Linux (current x64 Mint, based on Ubuntu) , there is no known port that the software is looking for. Ideas? Cheers, Tim

If this is a duplicate message, I apologize. Minor email issues. So, I'm new to ham radios and chirp, but I successfully used chirp to populate my Baofeng BF-F8HP with imported repeaters from RepeaterBook. But now it return the error "No Channels Found". Looking at the debug log it shows this link: http://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/downloads/chirp.php?func=default&stat… When using this link in a browser it indicates that I need to be logged in. But I wasn't previously logged in when it initial and repeatedly worked. Can anyone shed some light on why this stopped working? Thanks so much. Hello All, I’m wondering if the TYT UV8000D radio is supported by CHIRP. I found one in a box in the garage, and I have a cable and a disk (small CD) in a bag where the box was. Hi all, I know that satellite communications works best with two radios operating duplex, but I also learned that sat comm can be accomplished using a Yaesu FT-60. Is there a way that Chirp can be used to set up the VHF uplink and UHF downlink? Or can anyone guide me in the right direction for tutorial or instruction? Thanks! Tip N9MVX

I have a Yaesu FT60R that connects perfectly, but when I try to connect FT7900 I get an error message saying the USB file isn’t found, I’m trying to us the same connection that does work on the FT60r only difference is the cable plugged into the radio. Should I be able to use the software with 2 different radio’s? I can’t confirm or reject if it is the cable. I have tried to install a separate instance of Chirp but I get the same error message “could not open port /dev/cu.usbserial-RT0UYFJC: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/dev/cu.usbserial-RT0UYFJC’ yet this is the same connection on the FT60r. I am also using this on a Mac Book high Sierra Thanks, Mary

A recently purchased D710GA is working with the MCP6 software and the USB version of the programming cable on COM 4. When I use the MCP6 to program a few channels, it is not showing up when I use the same configuration with Chirp and tell it to download from the radio. I try to import a CSV with channels from another radio and it never uploads to the D710GA. The baud rate is set for 9600 in everything. How long should it take to upload 128 channels in live mode? [chirp_users] FRS/GMRS CSV file only 4 channels?

I'm trying to program FRS/GMRS frequencies into a radio and keep running into the problem that only the first 4 memory slots in the file will display in CHIRP. If I open the file with a text editor (vi/vim is my editor of choice), I can see every channel. Use CHIRP and nada. Any ideas? -- --John E Kemker III

Ok, but this was the only way I could get a good read. There was a couple other squelch settins were greater than 123 so now that I can read the values I can change them to the correct values. You just made the bad value acceptable in CHIRP. You should change the bad value (208) to something valid (1 to 123) and upload it to your radio. The value it was supposed to be would be 1 higher than the next lower squelch threshold setting or 1 lower than the next higher squelch threshold setting since they usually increment by 1 from the factory. Then you can set line 1662 back to 123. Hi, I have done this many times before, I don't know if the error is coming from the site or if it means something is amiss with my system. I just today installed Ubuntu Mate 16.4.3 onto USB and ran an update. Than in a terminal, I ran: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dansmith/chirp-snapshots and I get the error: input output error and the PPA isn't added. Any thoughts? Well I did this, see below, and it worked. Edit uv5r.py and line 1662 change the 123 to 255. I was able to do a complete read with no errors. The problem was in the UHF squelch settings is was set by default to 208. Email your downloaded image to me and I will email it back with a value that is in range. I have a basic programming question maybe someone knows the answer---As an example--I downloaded from repeater book lets say 10 channels. Several days later I activate Chrip again to add more frequencies via repeater book I did thew\ download and find out that the first ten channels data has disappeared and replaced by the second set of frequencies. I'm trying to program my Vertex VXA-700 with Chirp (daily-20180412, Ubuntu 16.04), but I've only been able to enter "PC CLONE" by: * Turning radio on with PTT held down * Radio sends 0x50 * Replying with 0x20 This brings up the "PC CLONE" menu. * Sending 0x70 enters "SEND" mode without pressing PTT again * I suspect there's a similar way of entering "LOAD" without having to press MON, but I haven't figured it out yet Is there an easier way (ie keypress only) of brining up the clone menu? If not, I'll submit a patch to add this handling in. Perhaps it's firmware dependent, my radio is on 105, but some of the files bundled with CE56 (the official Vertex / Yaesu programming software) have a firmware of 106 (can be checked by turning radio on with MON held down, and pressing MON twice). I am running Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS.
