Jardy -- I was able to load the older Prolific driver. This corrected the problem. I can now download and upload to my FT-60. Thanks for the tip to change the Prolific driver! Bert

Yes, it is a Prolific cable. I have not been able to change the driver. Using a Windows 10 computer. I will search the Internet for how to change the driver. When the driver has been changed, I will report the results about programming my FT-60. Thanks! I can’t seem to get Chirp to load into my Hp Envy laptop running Windows 10. After researching the Internet and this forum, I have found references to the config file that supposed to be located in the debug file. Well, neither of those two are in my Chirp program. Has anybody seen this problem before and if so, how is it fixed?? I hope I am not asking a question that has been addressed already but I haven’t seen it in here. Thanks. [chirp_users] Got Two More Friends Up and Running with CHIRP

My friends just got new Baofeng UV-5Rs. Steve is a Windows 10 guy and Don is a MacBook Pro guy running Mojave. They both managed to get the program installed on their respective computers and get their radios programmed. Steve bought the FTDI cable from Baofeng Tech and Windows 10 automatically installed the drivers when he plugged the cable in. No more trying to fool Windows into thinking an out-of-date driver is OK, because the genuine cable was barely more expensive than the counterfeit cables! I spent about an hour with them running over CHIRP basics, especially that you HAVE to download an image from the radio you want to program, edit it, save it, and then upload it back to the same radio from which it was downloaded. Don got his Mac going after I left, so I don't know if he in fact downloaded the Mac driver from mac-usb-serial.com I suggested or if Mojave likewise automatically installed drivers, as he had the authentic FTDI cable as well. I have a counterfeit Prolific, which works great on my Chromebook with Ubuntu, but I needed the purchased driver to get a serial port on my ancient MacBook Pro with High Sierra (it is too old and lame to run Mohave, so it limps along with High Sierra and a lot of spinning beach balls!). Anyway, two more fans in the CHIRP world!

I'm not getting chirp to communicate with my Yaesu FT-450D and I'm suspecting it's a baud rate issue. My 450D is at the factory default of 4800 baud, and I don't know what chirp uses by default or how to change it's default. I have no problem changing the radio to match what chirp is expecting, but I'd rather not do it by trial-and-error.... So, can anyone tell me what baud rate chirp is using? On Windows and Linux you can just install right over the previous installation. [chirp_users] Trouble loading Chirp on a laptop

Folks, I finally got authorized to send emails here. Well, in my previous email(s), I stated I’m having issues loading Chirp. I’ve tried and tried and, it just won’t load. I followed all the instructions and all I get is the Chirp.exe. file. If I click on that, it (the supposed download) starts all over again. When I click on the part that’s highlighted, “Windows users will need the latest version”, I don’t get on the next screen what youtube instructors are showing what should appear. They get, at the bottom of the screen, a text bar that runs across the bottom saying: Run, save, and if you click on a down arrow, you’ll see “Run AND Save”. I don't get that bar. I also don’t get the small text block in the middle of the screen that wants info on “com port”, radio type etc. Gang, I need help here. Everyone else seems to load Chirp just fine. The UV-B5 and the B6 are basically the same radio. Read from the radio first (tell it it's a B5), open your 5R file, then copy your channel sheet over the B6. You can then set the particular options for this radio with the B5 options. Hello, I just subscribed to this list. Could not find an answer to my question in the FAQ section, so I hope it is OK to ask here. I am using chirpw on an Ubuntu system. It is the newest version, CHIRP daily-20190201. I have been using it for a while for two different Baofeng UV-5Rs and it works fine. I then ordered a Baofeng UV-B6 which arrived last week. Before ordering it, I made sure it is in the list of supported models. So I tried first to download whatever is stored on the radio and I planned to then modify that (this is what I did with the UV-5Rs). However, I found that the UV-B6 is not in the drop-down list of models I can choose. The UV-B5 is listed but when I tried this setting it did not work. Help? Thank you!

Does anyone use Chirp with the Icom 92AD? I have used it for the radio, normally just to program the frequencies I use around my area of travel. But I want to do a bit more, but I see somethings that do not square. Taking into account that the radio has been around I guess for 10 years or more it does not talk over the RS-232 link very fast, so it does take some time for Chirp to pull in every- thing. But after I have allowed it to do it's download from the radio, I am left with a notice at the bottom reading as follows: [0] Getting Bank information for Memory 849. Here is the memory info taken from the manual: The IC-92AD has 850 memory channels in the A band, 450 memory channels in the B band, and 2 call channels in each band. Memory channels in each band include 50 scan edge memory channels (25 pairs) for storage of often-used fre- quencies, respectively. And a total of 26 memory banks, A to Z, are available in each band for storing groups of frequencies, etc. Up to 100 channels can be assigned into a bank. It appears that something it halting at memory 849, and it can proceed no further. If I look at what is loaded into Chirp I see that the following screens are populated Memories (Band A) Banks (Band A) Memories (Band B) These are not populated Bank Names (Band A) Banks (Band B) Bank Names (Band B) D-Star Yet I am using both memory banks (analogue is A and D-Star is on B) I have bank names on with frequencies in them, so not sure what is going on. But it looks like Chirp is not reading past memory 849. Also I used to be able to change channel data (freq, tone etc) and since the IC-92AD is a "live radio" I would see the changes show up in the radio immediately, now I see nothing, also if I try to use the refresh button, the screen in question goes blank. I am running Mate 18.04. Chirp is Rev daily-20190201 The IC-92AD was why I started using Chirp, back in those times I could do anything to the radio made the Icom software for which they charge (still) and outrageous amount looked stupid. Yeah, it had a screen that showed a image of the radio and what was on the radio screen, big deal I could look at the Chirp screen that showed the channels and see EXACTLY what I wanted to see plus what was in above and below that channel. Is the radio pretty much abandoned or is there someone who can look at this? What info can I supply to help fix this. The radio is still in very good shape even though it has traveled all over the planet and see some pretty grungy environments. Has anyone had success programming one of the Yaesu 2900 units using CHIRP if so what cable did you use other than RJ Systems? [chirp_users] Trying to download and run CHIRP on my Dell laptop.

It started OK and I was able to access the UV-82, but when I made a couple changes and uploaded the file to the radio, it stopped in the middle and everything locked up. The Dell locked up. I restarted it, and CHIRP wouldn't run. Uninstalled and then downloaded again and installed. Still will not run.; Getting frustrated. It worked fine on my old machine in Linux. Running Win 7 now, regrettably., (on the Dell.) Old machine has problems, but I may have to resurrect it. I hate Windows! The UV-82 did something weird ..... used it to check into a new last week, and somehow that freq. offest changed ..... now looking at the repeater input frequency, so it is backwards. Aaaaaargh! Thanks All, I think I got it working. I tweaked the CSV file, at one point, Open Office took out all the values in the offset column, so I opened another file in Excel that was about the same, and I selected the column and copied it and switched over to the file in Open Office and pasted it in. Setting it to the defaults helped, because this time when I imported the file, I think, the VHF is on the left and the UHF is on the right. Not much UHF going on around here to be sure. I need to learn the buttons on the mic other than the number pad and I know the top switch locks some of the keys, including the two top ones. It's good to turn those off, as I find myself pressing keys on that thing just by holding it while punching a button. Anyway, thanks all for helping me get this far. Glenn Sent From My Tabletop

I have used Chirp to setup several UV-5R units and it works fantastic! However, I was trying to setup a UV-5R with the keypad. I see in Chirp there is a setting for Duplex, but this doesn't appear to show up anywhere in the UV-5R. I have compared 462.600 simplex and 462.600 duplex and see no differences in the keypad menu system. if I was to setup a duplex channel manually, I am assuming I would have to set the offsets, etc., even though they show no differences on the UV-5R. Is there another trick I am missing? KY

[chirp_users] KT7900D/QB25 driver for macOS 10.13 (Mojave)?

I was recently given a Radioddity QB25, which is also a QYT KT7900D. It came with a programming cable. I got CHIRP up and running on my MacBook Air, and followed the steps to turn off the radio, connect the cable, and turn the radio back on. But there is no USB port in the ports list in CHIRP, and when I try the default Bluetooth port, I get a message that the radio is not in clone mode. I suspect a driver issue. I tried to search the archives of this mailing list and found some information about macOS drivers for various cables (including some built-in Apple drivers), but didn't see anything specifically about the cable that's supplied by Radioddity. Their website only has Windows driver software. (They say the cable itself works with Windows 7 without a driver but you need a driver for Windows 10.) I tried the generic driver linked from the CHIRP MacOS Tips page, but that didn't work. (Was I supposed to have restarted the MacBook? I only quit and relaunched CHIRP.) There are other macOS drivers listed on that page, but without knowing what kind of cable/chip Radioddity supplies, I don't know which driver to look for. Does anyone here happen to know what's in the QB25 cable and which driver works with it? I could try contacting Radioddity, but they appear to know nothing about Macs and might not give me sufficient information. Thanks/73,Patty N6BIS

Glenn, Thanks for the heads up about open office. I have had issues with excel and open office working with csv files. Did a little research trying to find a good csv editor and ran across this article: How to open CSV files safely with Microsoft Excel SupportAbility exports a number of CSV (Comma Separated Value) data files that can be used by other applications for invoicing, NDIS payment requests and other purposes. THE PROBLEM It is quite common for SupportAbility users to open these exported CSV files using programs like Microsoft Excel to check their contents before importing the file into a third party application such as MYOB. However, when Microsoft Excel opens a CSV file, it attempts to interpret the data in that file and starts making changes to it. For example, if Excel sees something in the CSV file that it identifies as a date (often incorrectly), Excel will change the date format in the CSV file to suit the way that it prefers to dates to be formatted. Unfortunately, this generally has the unintended consequence of breaking the CSV file for the third party application that the CSV was specifically designed for. THE SOLUTION If you need to open a CSV file in Excel without breaking it, here's how to do it: 1. Open a new Excel sheet, select the Data tab, then click 'From Text' in the Get External Data group. 2. Browse to the CSV file and select 'Import'. 3. In step 1 of the Import Wizard choose 'Delimited' as the original data type. Click 'Next'. 4. In step 2 of the Import Wizard choose Comma as the delimiter (deselect the Tab check box) and click 'Next'. 5. In step 3 of the Import Wizard, you tell Excel not to change your formats. With the first column in the Data Preview selected, scroll across to the last column and select it while holding the SHIFT key (all columns should now be selected). Then select 'Text' as the Column Data Format and click 'Finish'. 6. Click OK to insert the data into cell A1 You should now have a spreadsheet with the imported data but without Excel breaking the formatting required for the intended third party application. Hi, Before I re-upload my CSV file, that I edited with Open Office, I was wondering if anyone can send me the button steps to reset the radio to its defaults. I had read some reference to this in the manual, but of course it really did not indicate literally which button for the function key, and how many presses. With my poking around, and not knowing the buttons, I may have set some things in a way that I don't want. For example, it seems that all my channels are on the left, and I want them split, I don't know if the radio will do this automatically after I upload my CSV file, but at least I'll be starting with a clean slate. Hi All, Maybe someone can figure out what I did wrong in my CSV file. It was working, and I added a 10 meter repeater and two 6 meter repeaters and a 1.25 meter repeater. It says error on line 169, but it always seems to reference the last line. The lines in question would be between the left most numbers of 127 and 140. The repeaters on repeater.com only gave one tone, and I put in the others, the 6 & 10 m, just to keep the fields full. The one that was given was the 1.25 m repeater, I'll list that one below: 224.7600 -1.6 MHz 146.2 Omaha Thanks for any help. Sent From My Tabletop

I posted a question to the list a while back but didn’t get any responses (content below). Should I submit a bug request? The FAQ didn’t offer anything that could help and I don’t see anything in the documentation related to my radio about whether the bank support is in place so not sure if it’s a user error at this point. “ I am having trouble getting my bank selections to upload to the radio. My frequency memory entries and other settings carry over just fine, however the radio says “No Banks” even though I have entered memory positions into one or more banks in Chirp. Hi there! Sorry to disturb you with a newbie's problem but FAQ doesn't help me at all, so I have first raise a BUG (#6379) on CHIRP website, but perhaps this is not the best option... I'm French, and I recently purchase an Baofeng UV-5R on aliexpress, and would like to use CHIRP to modify options, name and frequency of channels.After some difficulties with the cable's driver (with WINDOWS 7), this is now CHIRP that don't want to download the image from my !Even if I put the correct PORT, Vendor (Baofeng) and Model (UV-5R) result is always: "Incorrect 'Model' selected" (But I have an UV-5R!) I have check some parameters on the Radio if it could help:(Power+3) BF4816N(Power+6) 181016N / B5R0001 CHIRP version is the last one: chirp-daily-20190112 Could you help me understand what is the issue? USB Cables is working with the original Boafeng software (but CHIRP seems to be a best option to edit). Thank you very much for help. Christophe

How do I get extended debugging info from CHIRP. I finally was able to test my USB cable. My cable is fine. My Wouxun KG-UV8E works fine on Wouxun's Windows software, but does not work on CHIRP, either on Windows 10 or Arch Linux. I went back to the January 2018 daily build of CHIRP and used the module that is for the UV8D Plus kguv8dplus.py and it doesn't work. How can I help with this? Regards, David N1EA

Odd. Chirp works very well indeed on Linux, plus even the dodgy/fake USB<>Serial cables all work without issue or needing to install drivers. (But for how long...) Also, LibreOffice has an excellent spreadsheet that handles Chirp's .csv files very well indeed. There are other unrelated non-ham issues, but for running Chirp, it works very well. 73. Dave G0WBX. My friend Google disclosed that Jim Unroe had answered my question about display of frequency rather than name "a few years ago! It is a setting on the radio! It would be NICE however if CHIRP could program the display mode! "This isn't an issue with CHIRP. You have to set the Menu Display Format to "names" to enable them. Settings > Basic Settings -> Display Mode (A) -or Display Mode (B) from within CHIRP Menu 21 (MDF-A) and menu 22 (MDF-B) from the radio's keypad."

[chirp_users] After Upload Radio Shows Programmed Frequencies but not Alphanumeric Name

New BaoFeng UV-5R purchased from Amazon. Latest chirp-daily. " Download from Radio" works fine. "Upload to Radio" appears to work fine, CHIRP shows cloning progress bar and light on radio flashes. But an alphanumeric name was entered in CHIRP for each memory channel. The radio displays the frequency instead of the name. I have another UV-5R that I don't have with (the reason I bought another one) and after uploading to radio it displays the name. Am I missing something? On the radio? In CHIRP? Thanks! Glenn, I will try to help you out. I hope this email gets to you. I have had problems in the past trying to post here. No matter what i try they get rejected... You are correct on the knobs. On page 11 of the user manual there is a diagram of the "knobs" and "keys" which is what they call the buttons. There are numbers with lines pointing to the knobs, and then also to groups of the keys. There is a chart starting under the diagram that continues on page 12 and then on page 13. This describes the knobs and keys and their function. In the diagram the group numbering starts at the top left knob with "1" then goes counter clockwise to the lower left knob as "2" then the first four keys/buttons at bottom left are "3". The bottom center button which is slightly taller than the others is "4", then the four buttons to the bottom right are "5". "6" is the bottom right knob, then up to the top right knob "7". The vertical keys beside the knobs on the left and right are "8". The top left knob is "1" in the diagram and under the heading "NO." in the table/chart. Under heading "KEY" it is listed as "LEFT DIAL". Under the next heading "FUNCTION", there are four different functions listed numbered 1 thru 4. 1. Tuning dial for the "left" band. 2. Short press the knob to set the "left" band as the "Main" band. 3. Enable rapid tuning (in 1 MHz steps) when the "left" band is set to be the "Main" band in VFO mode. 4. Press and hold in this knob for 1/2 second to toggle the operating band on the left side as follows: 144 MHz -> 350 MHz -> 430 MHz -> 850 MHz -> 29 MHz -> 50 MHz... The bottom left knob is "2" in the diagram and "NO." heading. It is listed as "LEFT VOL/SQL" under the "KEY" heading. It has four listings under "FUNCTION" heading. 1. The outer VOL (Volume) control adjusts the "left" receiver speaker audio level. 2. Short press the knob to switch single receive mode "on" and "off". 3. Press and hold this knob for 1/2 second to switch the front panel keys LOCK feature "on" and "off". 4. The inner SQL (Squelch) control adjusts the "left" receiver background noise. Along the bottom of the radio face there are 4 keys in group 3 in the diagram and under the "NO." heading, designated LEFT, labeled from left to right as follows: "LOW", "V/M", "HM", & "SCN". Under the "KEY" heading the first key on bottom left is labeled LEFT [LOW]. In the chart/table it denotes the keys from the knobs by using brackets [ ] for just the key description as marked on the radio. It has 2 listings under the "FUNCTION" heading. 1. Short press the key to switch power output level of the "left" band (LOW, MID2, MID1, HIGH). 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to switch memory display mode between "Frequency" and "Channel Tag" when the "left" band is set to the Memory mode or Home Channel. Under the "KEY" heading the second key from the left on the bottom in group 3 is labeled "LEFT [V/M]". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to switch frequency control for the "left" band between the VFO and Memory mode. 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to shift to the "Memory Tuning" feature when the "left" band is set to the Memory mode. Short press the key to activate the Scanner on the "left" band. 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to set up the Scan Skip List or Preferential Scan List under MR mode. Now we are at group 4, the center key on the bottom. The symbol on the key itself is a small square. The key appears in the diagram to be slightly taller than the other keys. In the chart/table it is labeled "[SET]". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to enter the Menu mode. 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to transfer the contents of the Main band VFO into a Memory system. Next are the 4 bottom right keys in group 5, starting with the one to the right of the center key, or fourth from the right. It is labeled RIGHT [LOW]. Underneath that label under "KEY" in parentheses is "(Default)". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to switch power output level of the "right" band (LOW, MID2, MID1, HIGH). 2. Press and hold in this key for 1/2 second to switch memory display mode between "Frequency" and "Channel Tag" when the "right" band is set to the Memory mode or Home Channel. NOTE: This same key has a second set of functions under (Key Mode 2). The only reference i could find for Key Mode 2 is in the menu programming under "#14 KEY.MOD". You can program those right keys for their (Default) use "KEY1", or for the second set of functions as "KEY2". I will list all the Default descriptions and functions first, then the secondary functions you can program last. The third key from the right in group 5 is labeled "RIGHT [V/M]". It has 2 listings under "FUNCTION". 1. Short press the key to switch frequency control for the "right" band between the VFO and Memory mode. 2. Press and hold in this knob for 1/2 second to toggle the operating band between 144 MHz and 430 MHz on the right side. Now we come to group 8, the 3 vertical buttons beside the left and right knobs. The three on the left starting at the top and going down are labeled "A", "B", and "C". The three on the right starting at the top are labeled "D", "E", and "F". These are called Hyper Memory Keys. The need to look close to the rows above. One of the differences would be that Mode would be AM. The best way to know how it should look is to program a memory in the radio and then export it to a CSV file. Then use that as a template for the rest. I threw only a few minutes at this. I hope this is helpful. Th - 9800 I am hopeful that you have the text of the manual and can read the descriptions (1 through 8) keyed to the diagram. But it's in a table layout so the formatting may be too awkward. upper left knob is identified as [photo key 1] left dial tuning dial for the left band. the entire radio appears to be bilaterally symmetrical, with a left dial, left volume / squelch, and right dial at the top and right volume / squelch at the bottom. [photo keys 1, 2, 7, 6] The display is also split into left and right sections with comparable stuff displayed. Three vertical buttons on the left are labeled downward a b and c, with d e and f labeled downward on the similar three buttons to the right. All six refer to [photo key 8] [Photo key 8] calls these hyper memory Keys a through f Of the nine buttons across the bottom, the center is labeled with a dot [photo key 4]. And is named "set" on the page. it says this enters the menu mode or if you hold for half a second to transfer the contents of the Main band VFO into a memory. Buttons on each side of the set button are in two groups [photo key 3 on the left and 5 on the right] with Legends LOW, V/M, HM, SCN.[LOW] [V/M] [HM] [SCN] [.] [LOW] [V/M] [HM] [SCN] "LOW" changes power modes, cycling low, mid2, mid1, high. Long press on it changes display modes (you probably won't care)"V/M" short press to switch freq control between VFO & memory mode. My frequency memory entries and other settings carry over just fine, however the radio says “No Banks” even though I have entered memory positions into one or more banks in Chirp. Hi, I have a Wouxun red colored cable, suddenly it no longer works. I have the Wouxun Windows programming software: Doesn't communicate with radio. CHIRP on Win10 and Arch Linux: Same problem, radio doesn't respond. It used to work, now suddenly it doesn't work! Is there some way I can check the USB to double jack (1/8 (3.5mm) and 3/32 inch (2.5mm). I have a club member with the same cable, but it's been 20 days since he was going to come over to test my cable by substitution. It's either my transceiver or my cable! Only have one hand held that takes this cable! I only have a 100 MHz dual trace 'scope and a nice RadioShack 22-812 DMM to test with. So I could capture slower pulses. Probably won't be a good test like substitution of working cable. I know it's a fairly dumb question but you never know until you ask! 73 David N1EA

[chirp_users] Problem with CHIRP under Ubuntu Linux

I have CHIRP installed on an Asus C302 Chromebook with Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial) installed with crouton, I live in Washington State but am in Arizona for the winter, and just bought another BaoFeng UV-5R to use here ($24.99 on Amaqzon, how could I not). I had no programming cable, so I borrowed one from a friend here at the RV Park, it is a labelled "TYT." I also have a 2011 MacBook Pro with CHIRP installed which I have used successfully many times before. What is happening is that when I connect the BaoFeng via the cable (turned off), and go toe "Download from Radio," I can put "BaoFeng" and" UV-5R" in the dialog box from the dropdown lists but the in Port dialog, nothing shows up. Naturally, when I turn the radio on and press the button to download, it gives a "Device not found" error. There is a /dev/tty file that I have CHMODed to 777, and I tried typing "/dev/tty" in the box same error. The cable is pushed fully into the radio, so that is not the problem. When I connect to the MacBook, and do the same thing, the only device that shows up is the Bluetooth device. I have deduced it must be the cable. I have several programming cables back home that I know work - and they were cheap generic cables that would make Windows choke (fake Prolific chips). I don't want to buy a cable on Amazon or Cheapham without knowing whether it will work or not.I don't know if Linux cares about the chip. I don't think MacOS cares. What cable would you recommend, or what else could I try in Ubuntu if it is not the cable? Thanks! Pat Anderson KD7OAC

Hi, I have uploaded my CSV file that I made up for my TYT TH-9800, using my Baofeng 5R and 9HP file, with a few additions for 11 meter. I get an error on line 160 when importing it, and I'm wondering if it isn't going into the radio, because when I scan, I can't pick up anything from my hand-held. Admittedly I don't yet know how to use the TYT, because I only know that the fourth button from the left reads scan and the furthest right button reads scan. In the UK/EU all repeaters & simplex 6m/2m/70cm/23cm are in Narrow Band FM mode only. Different band allocations as well. Re: 2m & 70 cm UK frequency lists for initial programming (Sarvapala Colin Locock) Colin M7CFL Visit the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) website. All Repeater lists and details are fully up to date. Simplex frequencies and are also listed. The RAYNET (in North America we call it ARES) simplex, repeaters & usage rules/allocations are there also and widely in use for emergency traffic and training. Remember the UK/EU Band allocations are very different to North America. Also ALL transmissions 6m/2m/70cm/23cm are in Narrow FM mode only. All repeaters use Tone Squelch. This avoids any interference with the EU repeaters which by the way operate in the reverse repeater offsets to the UK to avoid cross border/country channel interference issues. North American operators visiting the UK/EU when overseas should note their radio allocations. Our radios as built have a wider band Tx range which is not allowed there. One good example is our 6m FM calling channel 52.525 MHz. In the UK/EU it is 51.510 MHz FM narrow mode. No transmissions over 52.000 MHz are allowed as it is allocated for the lower TV band. Same for Asia/Australia/New Zealand. When travelling always check local Clubs for each countries rules. Some countries in the Caribbean (for example) require a temporary call sign issued well in advance and import documents (and fees) for your radio(s). A side note: You can use your North American call sign(s) freely for up to 3 months in the UK/EU. Carry a copy of your license. I just received my data cable today and was able to download the memory of my Vertex VX-150 using FTB1050, so I know the cable/USB adapter is good. I tried using VX-170 setting in Chirp to download the memory ... no good. Chirp was reading the memory and the green status line went almost to the end then I received an error dialog box "ord() expected a character, but string length of 0 found" Wondering if it's worth the effort to request the VX-150 be added to Chirp? I have a new Leixen VV-898SP backpack radio and it works OK with the factory software. The problem I am having is the latest version of Chirp won't allow me to input frequencies over 470 MHz. The radio transmits to 470 MHz and receives up to 520MHz. I need to use it to monitor public safety on 470-490 MHz as a receive only radio. I have no need or desire to transmit above 470 MHz. I am a new Ham, and I foolishly selected a radio that is not supported by CHIRP. (Yaesu FT-4XR). I wish to add support for it and its recent Yaesu siblings. I have successfully analysed the serial protocol and I can read and write the memory, but I don't know what to do next. Is there a HOWTO somewhere? If not, I can attempt to create one, but some guidance would be appreciated.

[chirp_users] Mobile/web GUI?

I wish to run CHIRP on a Raspberry Pi Zero W in the field, where I may not have a laptop. I wish to connect to the Pi from a smartphone via WiFi and run CHIRP in a web page. Clearly, I could do this using VNC, but the CHIRP UI appears to be oriented toward a real screen of at least 1024x768 or so. SO: is there a UI that will fit better on a smartphone screen? Another alternative might be to run CHIRP on Android and connect a programming cable to the smartphone's USB port, but my Android skills are weak. I will have the Pi in the field anyway, since it will be running Direwolf. Incidentally, CHIRP is really impressive, and it appears to just work when I run it on my Gentoo desktop.

Hi All I am having difficulties getting CHIRP 20181214 to communicate with *a couple* of Kenwood TH-G71 hand-helds. I am using a brand new BlueMax49ers supplied (FTDI) USB cable. When connected to my Windows 7 Professional (64 bit machine) the driver seems to install fine. (No negative messages etc.) However when I try to use CHIRP (version 20181214) to download from *a couple* of Kenwood TH-G71 hand-helds nothing happens. (no indications of download progress after over 10 minutes waiting). I believe I read somewhere in the CHIRP documentation that there is *no need* to put Kenwood radios into 'clone' or similar mode. I have also tried the same cable on another computer (also with the latest version of CHIRP) and also with 64 bit Windows 7 (Ultimate). I've tried running CHIRP both as a User and as the Administrator. but get the *same result* regardless. Can you please help me to figure out what may be the issue? The thing is, I need to set one side for 6 & 10 meter and the other for UHF. Windows 7 and later, have an option when you (right)click on a .iso file, of "Burn image to CD/DVD) (or similar) That is what you need to do to make a bootable CD/DVD from a .iso file.. Obviously, you need to have a writable CD/DVD in the drive to do that. (And the drive is capable of WRITING to that media.) Only after that, you need to address how to access that disk to boot from. 73. Hi, I am a relatively a new HAM. I need some assistance getting over the learning curve in programming my radio. I am using chirp-daily 20181205. I have created a CSV file with repeater information that I pulled from repeaterbook.com. When opening the CSV file in chirp several errors during open occurs. I know these errors are due to my lack of knowledge and understanding what all the columns information that are required. While the total error number is 36, there are basically 4 errors. I have attached my CSV file for review. 1. Line [#] [rtone] could not convert sting to float: D265 2. Line [#] [tuning_step] could not convert string to float: 3. Line [#] [ctone] could not convert sting to float: 4. Line [#] [tmode] ‘TONE’ is not a valid list; [,’Tone’,’TSQL’,DTCS’,’DTSC-R’,TSQL-R’,’Cross’] I would like to learn how to interrupt these errors so I can fix them. What is rtone? What is tuning step? What is ctone? What is tmode? To fix these errors I go to the line number (row) and then to the column label to the corresponding error type. I just don’t know the correct information that is required to fix each cell. Little back ground. My radio is a Baofang GT3 (Baofang UV5). The first step I did in programming my radio was to download the radio image and save it as a CSV file so I would know what format and type of information that is needed to program my radio. I added the information for NOAA Weather into the CSV file and uploaded the CSV file to my radio this went great. I then added about 5 more local repeaters to the CSV file and upload to my radio. This went well too. I repeated this process to program of program my radio and successfully upload about 30 repeater into my radio. So I decided to take the big leap and added another 100 repeater on my state. It at this point of open the CSV file with about 150 repeater that the error message start to display. I have attached the CSV file for your review as it might help in trouble shooting. I would also like to add more repeater in the Orlando area. My goal is to program as many repeaters my state as possible and to have my radio organize the frequency by geographical area with my home area repeaters listed as the lower channel numbers. My CSV is layout as: Column A is Location which is the channel number for the memory Column B is the name for the channel number, while my radio display only seven character, I know only the first seven character are display. I been using location of the repeater as the name. Column C is frequency. I understand this, this information is pulled from repeaterbook.com Column D is duplex, this is either a “+” sign or “-“ sign or blank, this information is pulled from repeaterbook.com Column E is offset, is mainly a 5 or 0.6 base on the offset, this information is pulled from repeaterbook.com Column F is Tone, I do not understand, but it always seems to be “Tone” or blank Column G is rToneFreq, I do not understand, but I pull this from repeaterbook.com Column H is cTomeFreq, I do not understand, but I pull this from repeaterbook.com Column I is DtscCode, I do not understand, but it always seems to 23 Column J is DtscPolarity, I do not understand, but it always seems to be NN Column K is Mode, I do not understand, but it always seems to be FM Column L is TStep, I do not understand, but is always seems to be 5 Thank You in advance for your help with in getting my radio program by correcting these error so I can upload this file into my radio. Problem solved. After a bit for framing about I was able to uninstall Chirp. I had to use several different methods but I "got her done" Then I reloaded and using the file tab I opened a "new" file. Then the radio would download to the program, I modified and uploaded. Later that same day I was able to upload to another FT-60. While I certainly do appreciate all the interest and advice I am led to note that those responding to a request should thoroughly read and understand the original post. For example, I specified all the test and trials I had done only to have about half a dozen "helpful" replies ask or suggest that exact procedure. Once or twice it was an effort to stay polite. The manuals for technology typically do not describe the buttons and plugs, and even though I have watched some YouTube videos on it, there too, they rely on the viewer seeing the controls while they use them. I'm hoping someone here with this radio can either type out the controls and a description of its location on the radio, or even do a podcast on this radio, because I'll be getting one from Santa. Hello,I will be getting the TYT 9800 with a programming cable.I have programmed my Baofengs with Chirp, so I know how to use the program in general.I'm wondering if I can import the .CSV file for any of my Baofengs into Chirp when I have downloaded from the TYT, or if the Baofeng radios have settings that won't sit well in the TYT.Also, this radio has 6-meter and 10-meter, and I can look at Radio Reference, but does anyone know if generally, there are any local frequencies that are in these bands?Thanks.

Radio: QYT KT8900 (no "D" - just the KT8900) CHIRP Version: daily-20181018 (latest I believe) OS: macOS 10.13.6 (but shouldn't matter in this case) In CHIRP, under Settings > Work Mode Settings you are able to specify "MR A channel" and "MR B channel" as the default channels your radio starts on (assuming the VFO/MR mode is set to Channel). This has worked for me previously - but a while ago something changed. I don't have an exact timeline - in the last 6 months or less I believe. I tried changing it to other channels (and saving then uploading) multiple times but there is no change. When I change MR A it gets applied, but not MR B. Any ideas? I went back and grabbed the oldest .img file I had (from May) and it is still happening, so I don't think it's an issue with the image file. Anyone with a QYT KT8900 that can test this as well? Bottom Line: Frequency off just enough to be annoying. I programmed my NEW FT-70D using chirp and had issues with the frequency being slightly off. More detail to come, I hope that the community has a good/quick solution. Maybe the issue was with my tuning steps. Version 20181018 Daily Version Thanks, Roy

Hi Phillip, Chris here. I don't know anything about Apples so I might be wrong... If you've only got Bluetooth in a Connect menu then doesn't that mean that no hardware (wired) ports are currently available for data Tx/Rx? Assuming that a USB connector is available for data Tx/Rx (and not just for charging) then it might need enabling via a setting before it will appear on the Connect menu. Alternatively, the Connect menu might be specific to Bluetooth only. [chirp_users] problem with baofeng uv-5r

not exactly a chirp issue: i have few uv-5r's one of them can only receive while transmitting the others receive only the bip but not the voice~ what might be the reason besides a defective mic (while checking i found out i cannot manualy change menu 5 from wide to narrow . it remais as programmed - this IS a chirp issue( -- Amnon
