John John,I noticed in my version of chirp (only a week old) I can highlight a row by clicking on the row header, right click and select move up or move down one row at a time. The same can be done from the keyboard using Ctrl+up or Ctrl+down, for several rows at a time, and you can use shift to select several rows. Often if you use Excel and try to sort based on one value, it will ask if you want to extend the selection, but it doesn't always sort the entire row.

Well, actually, CSV *DOES* stand for Comma Separated Variables. If anybody uses a different character to separate the variables, e.g. semi-colon, then the data file is not CSV, it is something else. Re:- .CSV dowsn't mean that the correct fields are included or in the correct order, or that the field headers are there, or that the fields are seperated by commas and not some other character. ~ ~ ~ Er... CSV stands for "Comma Separated Variable". So, the data fields /will/be separated by a comma ',' However, the nature of the field contents, and the order they are in, are not part of the CSV format, that IS application specific. Line ends can be whatever the native system expects/can handle, but again, that can cause things to fall over too. CHIRP (and many other similar CSV aware data munchers) are a bit fragile in this respect, but to harden CHIRP against unexpected stuff, would be a major undertaking. I cannot figure out how to get my radio to download to chirp. I have CHIRP daily-20190703 installed and the usb cable going to the mic input on the radio. [chirp_users] CHIRP won't recognize .csv file

I just got a new mobile, a YAESU FTM-7250. Since CHIRP doesn't support this radio yet, also I bought a programming cable and software from RT Systems. This afternoon I built a big (100 plus lines) file with a lot of local and regional repeaters and simplex channels and successfully downloaded it to the new radio, and it all works fine. I then saved the file as a .CSV file so I could import it into CHIRP and load it into my other radios. Unfortunately, when I try to import the .CSV file into CHIRP it tells me the file isn't recognized. I saved the file in .CSV format both from the RT Systems software and from an Open Office spreadsheet and neither will load. I haven't had any trouble loading other .CSV files into CHIRP in the past so I'm mystified as to why this one won't work. Any help would be appreciated. thanks Dave KG7HBQ

Greetings, Currently doing the Catalina beta program, and have discovered after installing it, CHIRP will no longer run. Did reinstall the Python Runtime as I have had to do with other updates, but this time CHIRP will only pop up in the Dock for a second or two and then quit. No error messages thrown. Anyone here doing the beta and have managed to get CHIRP to work? — Coyote

I appreciate the answers to my query. The discussion suggests that the cable should work with Chirp, and my findings suggest that it does, to some extent. If someone has figured out how I can either avoid or circumvent the error message and unwillingness of Chirp to work with the data, I would appreciate that. Regarding programming the Yaesu FTM-3200D, I use the RT Systems ADMS-M3200/3207 software & USB-29F cable. The radio cannot communicate with CHIRP directly, nor can it read the CSV file I created from their software using all the correct settings. Tried every method(s) and did not work. Your cable is probably not seated correctly in the radio. You may need to shave some of the plastic around the connector to get it. Common with some cables. [chirp_users] Programming Baofeng UV-9

I'm helping a group program their new radios. They have Baofeng UV-9, not 9R, but UV-9. There are no manufacture labels except in the battery compartment. It appears to be a UV-5R variant as it incorporates the Kenwood standard 2-pin plug and a 5R spkr-mic works with the radio. I'm using the same cable that I use with my 5R but the radio fails to respond to Chirp no matter what radio model I use in the Baofeng and BTECH listings. Is there a preferred for this radio. By the way, it doesn't show a firmware version on power-up. 73, William

I am having issues using CHIRP to program my brand new Baofeng UV-82HP. I have an FTDI cable and am using a Mac (MacOS Mojave 10.14.5) and CHIRP 7.13.2019. I have zero problems with downloading from and programming to my BF-F8HP, but the UV-82HP will not work. Every time I connect to the radio and attempt to do the original image download, the radio restarts itself, and then CHIRP then gives me “Radio did not respond” error. Brennan J. [chirp_users] Can't Upload to BTech VV-5X3

I don't know if this is a Chirp issue or a winDOZE 10 issue. Back in March 2019 things worked great. Today 7/21/19 I downloaded the chirp-daily-20190718-installer.exe and attempted to install it. I got several unable to write file errors. So I downloaded it again and tried to install again but with the same problem. So I uninstalled it, and installed the chirp-daily-20190319-installer which had worked just fine last last March. Again no joy. With either version I can download from the radio without issue but just can't upload to it. Next I'm going to uninstall it again, using Revo Uninstaller reboot my machine, and try it again with my Wouxun KG-UVD1P. If anyone has had this problem, please let me know how you solved it. I have a Kenwood TM-V7A connected to a Mac Mini running OS X Mojave 10.14.5. The cable has a FT232R USB UART chip. I downloaded the latest driver from FTDI and the latest Daily Build. The computer sees the cable, but CHIRP does not. Download from radio says no file. All was working fine before the Mojave upgrade. Help? Bill sends. Hi all, I'm new to Chirp and testing it with a Baofeng F8+III (supposedly an update on the UV-5R). I have successfully downloaded all the programmed frequencies (as both BF-F8HP and UV-5R models). I named some of the channels and uploaded them, and now the radio shows the names I entered instead of the frequencies - great! However I am unable to name some of the channels as I get an error when I attempt to do so: Error setting memory: Tx freq 0.000500 is out of supported range When I programmed in this frequency, I wanted to disable transmission so that I didn't accidentally transmit by mistake. I found some instructions online that suggested setting the split such that the transmission frequency ends up in a band that the radio cannot transmit on, and this indeed works - should I try to transmit the radio beeps with an error (if beeps are enabled) and no transmission occurs. I have now successfully downloaded all my programmed channels into Chirp, including those with invalid splits, and I can upload them back to the device as well, with the invalid splits being left unchanged. However it won't let me assign names to the channels having these out of range splits because the above error comes up. Is there any way I can tell Chirp that this isn't an error, and the frequency is intentionally out of range to prevent accidental transmission, and to accept the name of the channel I am trying to set? I've had chirp running previously but that was a couple of years ago and I think I had CentOS 6 then. [chirp_users] UV-5R programming

Hi, I haven’t used my UV-5R or the old PC used for it’s programming in some time. I decided to download CHIRP to my Windows 10 PC and bring the UV-5R back to life. After connection, CHIRP asks you to fill in the empty box with a port number. I thought it would be something like Com3 or Com4. Nope. I get error message 3, saying no such location. I’m sure this is a newbie issue but I can’t find a solution. Anything to do with Windows 10? Thanks, John W6LRM

Colleagues: Our community is interested in three different things, and I feel we need to do a better job of separating them, because different folks have different situations. Rules: we are not all US Hams. Some are not US and some are not Hams. the rules and regulations differ by jurisdiction and depend on both the hardware you are using and the licences you hold. It may (or may not) be useful to comment on the rules, but when you do, please make sure you mention which jurisdiction, licence, and hardware. Radio capabilities: Each radio has its own hardware capabilities. Some of these capabilities interact with the rules in some jurisdictions, and sometimes rules change. There is no reason we cannot discuss hardware capabilities independently of the rules, since those capabilities are still usable in some jurisdictions and/or to some users under some circumstances. CHIRP capabilities: Hey, this is the CHIRP user group! We can and should discuss any CHIRP capabilities that may be usable by some CHIRP users in some situations. It is the responsibility of each user to understand the governing rules. It is not the responsibility of the CHIRP software or the CHIRP user community to attempt to enforce these rules, especially since the rules you are trying to enforce may not be applicable to the users you are addressing. A brief sentence to note that a particular capability may violate a rule in a particular situation may be acceptable if it becomes obvious that the user might need the reminder. The UV5R is illegal on FRS. The reason is because they are not type accepted. Main reason is because the antenna can be removed and replaced with other antennas. FRS radios have fixed antennas. [chirp_users] UV5R "Variant" Programming Question

Bought this UV5R (UV5R7W) at the Hamvention this past May. So, aside from this HT having a receiver front end that's susceptible to harmonics from DC to Daylight (yes have played with the squelch, wish it had a harmonic elimination button.hi hi), programming with Chirp is relatively easy. However, the Chirp programmer only seems to support a High or Low power level setting but this radio has three, High (7w or 8w depending on what document your looking at), Mid (4w or 5w), and Low (1w). In researching the UV5R I find this radio is steeped in a hodge-podge of variations, many un-documented, that seem to make it impossible to determine what I have. So, what I know is this is a UV5R7W, the 7w (or is it 8 ??) with three power levels High, Mid, Low. The firmware (holding #3 while powering on) is BFB298, Chirp Daily in "Other Settings" is returning for Firmware Msg 1, HN5RV01, and 1 for Firmware Msg 2. Don't understand why the two firmware numbers but makes me question which witch is which, especially when I search and find different spec's and documentation for each. So, is the UV5R model in Chirp the one to use ?? I think there is a VP programmer on the CD that came with the radio, is that a better choice, although there are a bunch of programs on that CD that appear to me to have nothing to do with this particular model..again a mystery with the lack of any supporting documentation, not even a readme. Any advice or sharing of knowledge would be appreciated !! Started searching the archives but thought since this radio was relatively new (I assume anyways) that someone else may have already been down this path. I know you get what you pay for, just want to give this a fair shot before repurposing this to be a service band and NWS monitor. Thanks, 73 de Brad, N8GLS

I just updated to the new version of chirp today, 16JUN2019. I download saved from radio, edit saved, upload to radio, as I have done 100 times or more. I have 20 saved. I deleted #1, then all frequencies changed to match my 2nd saved frequency. No matter what my first saved frequency is, it overrides all other frequencies in saved and changes ALL frequencies to match what is in the first saved frequency box. The name label fields don’t change at all, but the frequency field does. What can I do to stop this override so all boxes don’t populate with the same frequency? This is maddening.

I am reprogramming my 5888 after two years. I have been able to use CHIRP in the past, but now the last few versions (6/1 and prior) throws up an error whenever I try to edit a frequency with 4 digits after the decimal. "Error setting memory: Frequency requires 12.50kHz step" I know that a bug report was filed by someone recently, but I would like to know if the issue is being looked at. I can not tell you what version did work as I update as soon as the new one is released. The last time that I programmed the 4 digit frequency was in the summer of 2017. -- Charles J. So I finally found a need to subscribe to the list. Excellent program working fine on most of my radios. Question is now,Is there any way to open Yaesu's FTM-400 .dat file and edit it? (MEMFTM400D.dat) I have copied the file from the SD card to the computer and tried various radios to open file, of course none worked. Any hints here or an I relegated to buying the RT software? I’m getting an "AttributeError: 'Serial' object has no attribute ‘get_payload’” error when I try to read from my Icom IC-80AD. It’s instantaneous to when I start. I’ve looked at drivers and can’t find the alleged Apple FTDI driver. When I look in the directory IOUSBFamily.ktext I only see the following options: AppleLegacyUSBAudio.kext/ IOUSBCompositeDriver.kext/ IOUSBHIDDriverSafeBoot.kext/ AppleUSBLegacyHub.kext/ IOUSBHIDDriver.kext/ IOUSBLib.bundle/ AppleUSBMergeNub.kext/ IOUSBHIDDriverPM.kext/ IOUSBUserClient.kext/ When I do a $ ls /dev/cu* I see: /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port /dev/cu.usbserial-RT3P07W9 I’ve tried both. Bluetooth doesn’t even come close to happiness and the RT3P07W9 one gives me the above error. I do have the KK7DS stuff installed, even tried installing it a second time to be sure. That's not right John. You can hear FAX data if you know where to look, you can hear Packet Radio, and you can hear computer programs if you've still got a home computer from the 80's. They, and others, are all serial data and as you can hear them then they must be in the audio spectrum. Closer to our homes as Radio Amateurs, even Morse Code is a form of serial data. Most of it can be controlled by a volume control as fitted to cassette players, CW receivers, and Packet Radio transmitters and receivers. If the volume control was turned down to zero, you wouldn't hear anything from any of them. Nor would the computer, the TNC or the FAX machine. Which is all very well, but I'm inclined to believe the people who say that the data in/out connectors on hand-helds don't use the audio channels (speaker and microphone) because a) its an obvious way to ensure data coms reliability, and b) its the way I would do it. But... The accountants would argue that the two extra terminals fitted to each of several million radio sets would amount to millions of yen in lost profit. So the early versions might be as designed by the engineers, i.e. two distinct interfaces (audio and data) but the later versions might be made to the lower specification as defined by the accountants. I can therefore see a case where, if you've got a later version, you would need to adjust the volume control when programming the memories. Two solutions: a) make sure your manual applies EXACTLY to the model you've got, especially if bought second-hand, and b) experiment. I'm sure other solutions are available from a variety of sources. Hi Barry, A change in the firmware of the BF-888S has resulted in the contents of the settings tab not being correctly saved to the radio. (It also resulted in the voice prompt language changing to Chinese on the newer radios I programmed.) The work around is to change these settings manually on the radio as follows: * On channel 10, Press and Hold the PTT and MONI buttons while switching ON the transceiver to activate/deactivate Voice Prompts. * On channel 15, Press and Hold the PTT and MONI buttons while switching ON the transceiver to change Voice Prompt Language George M0IAS ------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, Has anyone had an issue with Baofeng 888 items on the settings tab (not memories) not being saved on upload? I am primarily trying to disable voice prompts, however after editing the downloaded image and uploading it, the next time I download it, the setting has reverted (or was never saved).

Jeff, Instead of using the Baofeng software, use Chirp which is the program this list is designed for. Go to: https://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download and choose the version for the operating system used on your computer. Read thru the info on the Chirp website that will help you use the program and also check out http://www.miklor.com/ which supports Chirp use and has lots of good info. I have used Chirp to program the UV-5R, UV-82C, and UV-82HP. In fact just this weekend programmed 15 of the UV-82C's. Had to do some wiggling of the connector on a couple to get them to communicate. It has to be fully seated and make good contact in the sockets. There is an article and picture on the Miklor site about having to trim a little on some programming cables to get that to happen. Hi, Has anyone had an issue with Baofeng 888 items on the settings tab (not memories) not being saved on upload? I am primarily trying to disable voice prompts, however after editing the downloaded image and uploading it, the next time I download it, the setting has reverted (or was never saved). Editing the hex in the browser produces the same result. Does anyone know the significance of the red highlighted values? Chirp version is CHIRP daily-20190412 and I see nothing in the change log since then related to the BF888. One thing I notice is that the progress bar on upload moves very quickly after about half way, whereas the download is at a steady rate, which makes me wonder if it skips part of the upload. Cable is a marked up as Baofeng and is regularly used with the UV5R without problems. OS is Mageia Linux using our official package which is maintained by me. Any ideas welcome. Cheers, Barry

Hi everyone, You guys were incredibly helpful recently in getting me started. I've now successfully uploaded marine VHF, 2m and 70cm simplex channels to my Baofeng UV-5R III, thanks again. I'm now having a few problems in adding repeaters and I hope you can similarly help. I have a CHIRP file for relevant UK repeaters. I'm guessing that they are from an older version of CHIRP as some of the column headings are different. I'm manually entering the info. All ok except these. The (old) file of repeaters shows these columns: Tone. rToneFreq. cToneFreq. DtcsCode. DtcsPolarity. Tstep I'm trying to enter:- Tone, always Tone rToneFreq, either 110.9, 82.5 or 103.5. cToneFreq, always 88.5 DtcsCode, always 23 DtcsPolarity, always NN My version of CHIRP isn't quite the same. Here are my issues. In CHIRP, I populate Tone Mode to Tone. My next 2 columns are Tone and Tone Sql. I seem only able to enter one of these columns as when I enter the second it automatically changes the previous Tone Mode to another preset. Simialrly, the Tone Mode autochanges when I try to populate any of the DTCS Code, DTC Rx Code and Cross Mode. Hopefully, I've explained the issue clearly. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong. I for one have found, and it makes total sense to me, that the volume has absolutely nothing to do with data being transferred to a computer with the data cable. Please confirm or deny. I have 2 of these radios and can't seem to get a good rec signal on them. I get the local sheriff dispatch but do not get the patrol car return. When the bad weather was coming in I tuned to 162.55 which is the weather service for my area. I got a very noisy signal and got in car and drove around to see if it changed. It did come in better in several places but no way acceptable in an emergency. Is their a better antenna available for these? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. DON

I bought $20.00 program cable from Amazon. Had to download driver CDM v2.12.28 WHQL Certified. Downloaded CHIRP UV82S35. When I click on "Read data from radio" a small window opens that says "Read data from radio" with three tabs, "Read", "Cancel" and "Help". When I click on Read I get another small window that says "Operation Prompt" with the message "! Fail connect with transceiver". When I click on Help nothing happens. Cable is firmly plugged into radio to the second click. Tried dampening the pins for a better connection as per the Baofeng instructions. I've also tried the radio on both channel mode and frequency mode. Checked Miklor.com to no avail. I accidently keyed the PPT button and heard a buzz from my computer speakers so I believe I have a connection with the cable. Any advice??????? Steve Prime

I couldn’t get chirp to work on Mac and am now trying to with Linux. I am using the latest version on Ubuntu 18.04-1. When I attempt download from Yaesu vx-5r, the progress bar indicates downloading, but at the end I get “Failed to communicate with the radio: Recieved incomplete image from radio”. There is also a CLONE ERROR on the radio. Your assistance will be much appreciated. If there is output you would like to see, please let me know. Thank you.

I use cables from rt systems. Never had one not work. On your cable bake sure it is seating all the way in . I have seen this problem on a friend's trying to help him get his Baeofeng UV - 5 R programed. Luckily I had my cable out in my vehicle in his driveway. Rather than getting stressed we used my cable and it worked first time we tried. I've just bought a Baofeng UV-5R III and I'd like to use it for marine vhf and 2m and 70cm amateur bands. I've held a ham license since the 1980s but have been inactive for many years. I've succeeded with "Download from radio". I've also opened a new page to "Import from stock config" to open FR marine vhf. I can't seem to be able to "File; save" or "File; save as"? David, I checked out the video and there are a couple of caveats. First when he gets to the part where he is using Chirp the sound level drops drastically. Hope you have some amplified speakers... He is also running on a Mac not Windows. You will see when he goes to choose the connection for the radio it shows a usb device. That doesn't happen on the Windows version of Chirp. You only see the choices for Comm ports. Since you were able to download from the radio you had to have gotten that right. Device Manager will show you it you ever have problems. There may be others but i quit watching after that point because of the poor audio. There may be other videos out there. From my past experiences, you need to make sure you have a fairly new version of Chirp. I could never cut, copy, or paste in the memory areas on my Win 7 laptop until they upgraded the windows install months back. Then finally i could start using it. You will have to play around with it to get the hang of it. Once you get that first one under your belt you will look forward to working with it. Have fun and 73. Be blessed! Hello chirp folk My first time using chirpw - not yet totally working yet. The mission was to program a Baofeg Radio ---------------------------------------------------------- Platform is Linux (Mint - Ubuntu based) chirpw does install OK in /usr/bin It also runs from $HOME/bin if I put a copy there. I check with "lsusb" to see that the USB device is seen OK, and all is well. 1. Firstly, I get a permissions refusal on attempting the communication. "An error has occurred [Errno 13] could not open port /dev/ttyS0" 2. If I run chirpw from a terminal, I get message: (process:5560): Gtk-WARNING **: 10:09:24.416: Locale not supported by C library. Using the fallback 'C' locale. Gtk-Message: 10:09:24.418: Failed to load module "atk-bridge" I check to see libatk-bridge2.0-0 is present - and all is well Also libatk-bridge2.0-dev is there I do not understand why the module is not loaded. The messages seem to come from a process that is named like a LAN network address which keeps changing except for the first number "10". It might some GTK process -------------------------------------------------------------- Have I done something catastrophic? Maybe missed out something essential? Probably so they can load/update the entire firmware via the programming port during production with minimal effort on their part. However... Any "Sensible" designer would have put procedures in place in the final "User Release" firmware (as opposed to Production Test firmware) so that someone has to put the radio in a firmware load mode, perhaps like some other gadgets, by holding particular keys while it is powered up. Otherwise, leave it able to have memory data pulled and pushed, but other areas protected, perhaps flagging a warning on any display, of beeping, if anything tries to push data where it's not supposed to go, but otherwise ignoring it. But, these are products built down to a price, software/firmware development is expensive in time, and time costs money, due to the team of people involved. Plus, they are probably working on a host of other products too, so rightly or wrongly, only the bare minimum is done to meet the project's specified needs, and that's all. At the expense of "sanitisation" code for any remote memory read/write functions over any I/O port. Remember, just one bit flipped in the wrong place could cause mayhem or utterly brick a product. Or cause no issue, if the internal code does not use that location. But, a later updated firmware might use that location for something critical! The RT systems people have probably paid Yaesu for the needed information to do it the right way, or even purchased a software library from them, so they are understandably trying to protect their investment, in this case by (allegedly) perhaps spreading untruths about competing software. It's sadly not uncommon in the professional/industrial world too. Regarding CHIRP. It's good, very good. But by the nature of things that are built as a result of reverse engineering someone else's protocol without sight of any makers documentation, mistakes can be made, or features/methods that are default if not touched are fine on one product, but on another outwardly similar product, is the wrong way to do things. Heck, in my life where I've created code for products and customers, where documentation DOES exist, there are often errors and omission in the doc's that turn out to be a tripping point! And that's for products that cost many times more than any Ikensu radio! Reverse engineering is not trivial either, lots of testing is needed, with access to examples of (in this case) the particular make/model of radio in question, and known working software (all at a cost.) All that takes time, LOTS of time, plus at a guess, I expect the developers working on this are volunteers who as such are unpaid and have lives to get on with too. I have to say, they do a great job all things considered. I myself have a HH radio I'd like to use with CHIRP (A Puxing PX-2R) that CHIRP doesn't understand correctly, at this time. A Bug has been filed, with log files etc (January this year.) But I'm not expecting a rapid fix as other issues affect a lot more people. I have the hardware, some Python knowledge, but I'm not up at the level needed to do much with it, sadly. I also don't get enough of "the right sort of contiguous time" to dive in, learn, and have a go myself, but I might re-visit the code, and see if I can learn what's going on, or not. But as always, that takes time, and I have many many other things I need to be doing in the domestic and work world too. Regards to All. Hi, I'm having a problem with the automatic update of CHIRP since I upgraded Ubuntu from 16.xx to 19.04 64 bit. I get various error messages when entering the three lines of instruction on the dansmith site. I then see: Unable to download updates: failed to refresh cache E:The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/dansmith/ chirp-snapshots/ubuntu <http://ppa.launchpad.net/dansmith/chirp-snapshots/ubuntu?fbclid=IwAR1bQXquR…> disco Release' does not have a release file. Everything worked fine until the upgrade to 19.04. So now I have to manually update CHIRP. Any thoughts for a Linux/Ubuntu novice? Thanks. Mike - G4UPD

Hi Dan, See if this helps. Press the Menu button then press the down arrow or the up arrow until you get the item 21 - MDF-A Channel Display, Hit menu again the the up or down arrow until you see Channel Name then press Menu again then Exit. Do the same thing for item 22 - MDF-B Channel Display only this time select Frequency. Now if you have both A & B set to the same channel the A display will show the name and the B display the frequency. [chirp_users] Programming New BTECH GMRS-50X1

I successfully programmed a new BTECH GMRS-50X1 using my older BTECH GMRS-V1 as a basis. However, it took 4 min and 30 sec to upload to the radio. The first thing I did was read out the 50X1 and write back to it. That upload and all since, with new entries, have taken about the same time, which seems excessively long? I don't see this with other radios. Latest version of CHIRP on Windows 10 running on Parallels on a MacBook Pro using both BTECH and RT Systems cables. Comm port says it's 9600 baud. Dave

I have a UV-82HP, and I would like the top line to say the channel name, and on the bottom line I would like it to show the correct frequency of the channel I am on. Example: If I am on NOAA on the top line I would like it to show 162.525 on the bottom line. Which is the NOAA frequency in our area. I also have a UV-82C, UV-5R and a UV-5RTP I would like to do the same thing to (if possible). Is this possible? I have done so many google searches and read a bunch of articles. One man said he had his radio this way, but did not say how he did it. I have been playing around with the Settings in Chirp and I have the Name on the top line, but can't get the correct frequency on the bottom line. Thank you in advance, Dan Jolley

I know that can be done by setting the display mode as you would prefer in the "A" and the "B" displays. However you must set both displays to the same channel manually. I'm not aware of an automatic sync capability. Howdy List! just got my new Alinco DJ-G7T today. I'm guessing that it's not the same as the DJ-G7EG. Its firmware version is 5.1. Has anyone had a problem programming a Yaesu radio with CHIRP? Someone mentioned that their Yaesu was damaged and had to be sent to the factory because CHIRP had overwritten some code controlling the processor. It also had to be re-flashed. Since I don't fully understand how CHIRP works this doesn't make sense to me, but knowing manufacturing companies, they may share Channel Memory with processor memory and not think much about it. Sorry to be so dense but I need some help. I used to be able to have some fun with chirp but I've not been able to interact with my radios (baofeng UV-5RE Plus and UV-82HP) since getting a new computer. On an older computer and with an older cable I could access my UV-5RE fine but now I can’t get it to recognize anything. So, I’ve got the latest build of chirp (20190511) I’m running on an iMac with OS 10.14.4 Mojave When start up Chirp and try to download from radio (with the cable (newly purchased as I thought that might be the problem), turn the radio on max volume and hit the “OK” button, I immediately get an error message that reads: “An error has occurred could not open port /dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync’” Where am I going wrong? Hey everyone. And hats off to Pavel Milanes, and Bob Wickline . Quite happy that the Wouxun driver came out for the KG-UV8E / KG-UV8T. A much needed driver as those radios are getting quite popular. I have a question regarding the new driver as as well the old one that is based from. Even before this build, I’e seen using the KG-UV9D Plus driver, and have noticed the settings tab exists but empty, I notice this new version does the same for the KG-UV8E as well. Is having an empty settings tab normal or am I doing something weird?

Update May 11, 2019 - I got in touch with Amazon Product Support and they had a new BF-888s PDF Manual to download. I got to the part that said "ON CHANNEL 15, PRESS AND HOLD THE PTT AND MONI BUTTONS WHILE SWITCHING ON THE TRANSEIVER TO CHANGE THE VOICE PROMPT LANGUAGE (CHI / ENG)". I loaded the original Chinese image in English, then I loaded an image that I knew was already in English, but it was in Chinese. After doing the instructions, the image went back to English. So all the things I tried were in vain. I went back and read the BF-888s manual from 2016 and those instructions were there too, but I missed it. But I figured you guys already knew about it. I just thought I'd pass this along to others who did not know about it. Dan Jolley

Well ya'll, I finally got it working. Besides CHIRP, I had a couple of old BF-888s Chinese programs that would normally change it to English, but these would not, and I still don't know why. These radios definitely have a bug in the software! I assume ya'll have enough original factory images from the Baofeng BF-888s so I don't have to supply any and you can reference them. I took care to test for English or Chinese as I ran these tests. Test 1 - I entered all FRS frequencies and removed the Chinese Frequencies. I noticed as I installed the FRS frequencies, all of the characters in the other colums went away and I never lost the English from the radio. (the characters in the original image columns). Test 2 - Removed all Tone Modes. Test 3 - Changed the mode from NM to NFM Test 4 - Removed all skipped channels. So now I have 2 new working BF-888s that Amazon dropped off at lunch. I can't think of anything better to do on this cold wet rainy day... it took me 3 hours to get it to work. I'll leave the technical aspect why they didn't work to the pros & programmers. I could have given you an already working image but I put a lot of work into this. Here's the working image. I know there's more info to add into the lists & columns, so someone may encounter the Chinese again. I didn't fix it, I got the radios so I could program the FRS channels in them, and it started working.

I've tried the Ubuntu instructions and I have got as far as installing the package for apt-add-repository but no joy updating. Make sure Win 10 has not done something (updates?) to block the use of any I/O adapters you use to connect to the radio. Also, that any such adapters "show up" to the system as the same COM port you expect. Check using Device Manager. If not, either tell Chirp the new assigned port, or use Windows own tools within Device Manager, to nail it's feet to the ground, so that the next time you plug it in, to the same USB hole, it'll show up the same (so long as nothing else got there first!) For example, (but not the only method):- http://www.w1hkj.com/doku/doku.php?id=howto:taming_the_wild_comport_in_wind… Just identifying the current COM port the radio is attached to, and using "That" new info, to tell Chirp what to use, should get you going, if it used to work OK with that adapter+radio in the past. If not, then there are other issues, possibly device driver related. 73. Dave G0WBX. PS: Just so it is said, Linux etc can have the same/similar issues, if anyone has experienced this sort of thing. Again one needs to identify what /dev/ttyUSBx device was assigned to the interface. But, in the case of FTDI based interfaces, you can reliably "Fix" the issue using "udev rules". Hello, I am a long time user of Chirp, but I've never had a need for support so I just finally joined this list. I have a Baofeng UV-5R that I downloaded my old memories from successfully, then exported to a csv file. I then put that csv file into excel to edit it and save it back as a csv. I've done my best to preserve the format, but I couldn't import the editied csv successfully. After that, I started removing unused columns and such in an effort to get it to import. No such luck. About four days ago, my Chirp began acting strange. It opened normally, and a profile opened normally. But then, when I used the Alt+U command (and later using the menu options in the menu bar), Chirp went to (Not Responding) for about twenty seconds, after which the program resumed normal function. The only time I experience this issue is when I am asking Chirp to Upload or Download a radio. I was using an older version of Chirp from December, as I loathe updating software. I used the App menu in the Setting App to uninstall Chirp, and installed the latest version to no avail. I then manually deleted the individual program files from its location in File Explorer and reinstalled. I performed these two actions twice with no improvement. Then I used the Disk Cleanup tool in Windows, deleted temporary files, ran a Defrag, used the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, sfc/ scanner, and chkdsk C: /f. The 15 choices listed in the TMR menu of the radio did not match the 15 choices of same setting in the factory programming software. They each had a choice available that the other did not have. The bug was reported. Soon after that a pre-production BTech model was received from Baofeng Tech that corrected the TMR menu to have a complete set of 16 choices. It was assumed that the other Vendor/Model variants would receive the same update to the TMR menu. This 16 choice layout is what the initial CHIRP driver for these radios was then based on. Apparently the bug was not universally fixed in the TMR menu of non-BTech variants so some models continue to ship with the M+A+B+D choice missing from the TMR menu. This patch creates a 15 choice list to be use with color mobile radios that have the M+A+B+D choice missing (such as the QYT KT-7900D and KT-8900D). #5999
