Program ANI or PTT ID?

I'm having a devil of a time figuring out how to do this... I'm looking through all sorts of fields and functions looking for anything that looks relevant. All I can find is length (3, 4, or 5) and PTT-ID that isn't a way to set the code, but just when it's transmitted. I was given a 4 digit code that is now a requirement on one of the repeaters I use, but no info on how to apply it.

Apologies for "shouting", but things could be somewhat easier for us (the less experience Python users out here) than your good self, who only get involved with installs and updates when needed. Just having something on the download page (and in the archive) that states what the minimum Python version (and wxPython perhaps) is needed for any particular version of Chirp, would save "A Lot" of user time (+ cost for those on a $-per-kByte connection) and confusion re Chirp, when they find after waiting (and or paying for) the download, that it won't install. I see you updated the download info page some hours ago now, at least your name is at the bottom of the page, not Jeff's. (Sorry, I don't know who Jeff is in this respect.) As to "needing" to update my distro (LMDE 5 just now) that is still in full support for nearly another 80 days, it keeps telling me. I don't doubt that things move on over time, that's the nature of stuff, but some appreciation for us the users would help us a lot. As for what pipx is telling us when it fails, that's rather cryptic and embedded in a lot of other text, and looks at first, to be something that was spat out as some code crashed and burnt. OK. For now, I've installed one of the 2024 January 11th version, as that still works with Python 3.9.x So I have the use of Chirp again, for now. FYI: There are several LTS versions of Linux, that last a lot longer than the 2 to 2 1/5 years of the mainstream distro's. Many are popular with Radio Amateurs, just because they /*do not*/ keep messing messing with utility version changes and such. "Stability" is preferable to many of us, rather than living on the bleeding edge of development. If a distro (as mine is) still receives security patches, that for the most part, is all we need. However... For those who would like to know if it's viable to try to install a CHIRP update, before doing so. First, in a terminal command line session. (Ctrl + Alt + T will launch a fresh terminal/command line session.) These commands will show you what you are running. (The '$' indicates the command line prompt, you do not need to enter it.) The result is shown on the next line. Find out the currently installed Python version. $ python3 --version Python 3.9.2 (https://devguide.python.org/versions/ is good to view, in relation to what you discover above. 3.9.x doesn't die, until October 2025, nearly a year and a half away, just for info...) To find out the installed version of wxpython... $ python3 -c "import wx;print(wx.__version__)" 4.0.7 Both as discovered on my present system. In a downloaded .whl file, using an archive browser, look for the folder 'chirp-yyymmdd.dist-info' (Where yyyymmdd equals the date part of whatever file you downloaded.) In that folder, look in the file METADATA and you'll find a string (it is a plain text file) like:- 'Requires-Python: >=3.7,<4' That (in this case) indicates that a Python version between 3.7 and 4 is needed. (Greater or equal to v3.7 and less than v4 That example comes from the 20240111 dated .whl file.) If you download the .tar.gz file instead, look for the file 'requirements.txt' Again, that has some minimum version info re wxpython, but not python itself, that can be found in the file PKG-INFO Again, both are plain text files. Sadly, you do have to download an entire file first to discover that info in either case.. Frankly, I'd suggest doing that first, */before/* uninstalling an existing working version of Chirp! Oh, I'd also keep a local copy of the downloaded file, especially when you do install it successfully. You may need it to repair things if something else goes bad, or to revert to a known working state if a future install goes bad. Perhaps without i'net access at that time. FYI: The immediate past day-job (thankfully I'm retired now!) I used to be the customer support and service guru, in-house and on-site, both hardware and software. I learnt very early on, that making as much information available to users, /before/ they commit themselves, saves a lot of time, effort (and cost) and greatly increases a customers likelihood to come back for more of whatever we were doing at the time, and giving us more of their money! That is with hardware, and especially software! Yes, Chirp is largely free to us the users, other than the cost of time and effort to install and learn. For that we are all grateful indeed. But wasting even "free" time does not go down well with many of us. Retired I might be now, but I'm as busy as ever, just working for other "managers". (Domestic and/or feline!) 73. Help uninstalling legacy version of chirp in ubuntu

I installed (CHIRP daily-20220604) a while ago and cannot find it. I'm running Ubuntu 24.04 and can't find the program to delete it. I want to install the new build but the documentation say's uninstall older versions. any help would be appreciated. I have tried searching anywhere I could think of to no avail. I tried grep and searched my complete drive with file explorer. Thanks, Fred

UV25 Programming question

I have a uv25 and am trying to enter frequencies around 240mhz, AM, airband. I can enter the frequency but it won't let me enter the mode as AM. It reports that the frequency must be FM. The frequency is used by aircraft and in the AM mode. I have entered the frequency in other radios and can set them to AM. But not the uv25. Also chirp has uv25 listed under baofeng but it won't accept any airband frequencies. Using uv17pro will let me enter the frequency but only in FM. Does anyone have a work around for this? Thanks. I looked at the release notes for the latest build and saw the new model ticket number (11775) for the H777H_FRS shows an SKU of A9104J for the FRS version. The SKU for the radios I am trying to connect is A9294C. Is this a different H777 model that also needs support developed?

GMRS Programming using CHIRP

i am very new to this, I am trying to program using CHIRP to the Baofeng UV-5R, as I am licensed to use GMRS, CHIRP, when I programmed in the frequency, put in DTSC in the tone mode column, which prevented me from hearing anyone, I changed it to tone, now I can hear other users, the tone is set at 88.5, channels that have a repeater are set to + 5.000000, FM at high power. As I am not sure if any of the settings are correct, as I am not able to contact anyone, is there anyone who can help me with the settings I need in all the columns? I appreciate any assistance you can give me in this!

Hi again. You need to... sudo apt purge brltty If you've not already done so in the past... "brltty" is (I think) a Braile input device, for partially sighted users, often installed and active by default. It would appear the devices probably use a CH340 USB/Serial bridge chipset, hence the confusion. Also, if you've not already made yourself a member of the "dialout group"... sudo adduser $USER dialout. That will add "you" (the logged in user) to the "dialout" group, giving you permission to use serial ports, among other things. ("$USER" is a system variable that holds the logged in username.) Then, at least logout and log back in again for that change to take effect. If you wish, do a full restart just to be sure that brltty has gone. There is also often another background daemon "modem manager" that can cause similar issues. That can be disabled too, plenty on the web about that. Hope the above helps. Dave B.

Hi. With recent Linux's, you can use... dmesg -WH in a command line session... Where nothing appears to happen but if you plug something in, you'll see what the OS does with it. If -WH errors, try -wH.. An initial splurge of info, then silence, untill you change what's plugged in. (Ctrl+C exits the dmesg thing, Ctrl+D will close the terminal session.) If you have a FTDI based adapter, you can create a udev rule, so it always shows up under a more easily recognizable device name, such as... /dev/ttyMyAdapter! Or other creative name, regardless of were you connect it. Lesser chipsets without a unique serial number, you can do similar tricks, but you have to decypher the "path" to the device, and as I've recently found, with some OS/PC Hardware combinations, that can change at each boot! Most application software these days will accept that sort of thing, CHIRP used to, but I've yet to try the latest incarnation. 73. Dave G0WBX.

Disable and remove BRLTTY. It's a not uncommon issue for that to mess with serial ports. Plenty online about that, and other pre-installed software that comes with the OS's these days. It doesn't affect many, but when it does, mayhem ensues! Hope that helps. Dave.

Trouble with Linux USB port

Hi, I'm having trouble with CHIRP not recognizing any USB ports. I'm running LinuxMint 21, Mate. I've installed chirp-20250110-py3-none-any.whl per the instructions at /wiki/ChirpOnLinux. Other than needing to install python3-yattag, it went smoothly. Love how fast chirp loads over the flatpak I used to use a long time ago! When I run chirp, and scroll through the ports, there are no USB ports listed. Tried "Help me" and got "Unable to determine a port for your cable. Check your drivers and connections." Under Mate System Reports/System Information, I see the cable listed under USB hub 1: Device-2: 1-2:40 info: QinHeng CH340 serial converter type: <vendor specific> driver: usbfs rev: 1.1 speed: 12 Mb/s chip-ID: 1a86:7523. I plugged my cable into a different USB port, cable appears under hub 2 in the report. So, my OS is recognizing the cable, on either USB port, but CHIRP does not. Even tho I'm not getting a permission denied error, I tried "sudo usermod -a -G $(stat -c %G /dev/ttyUSB0) $USER" anyway, and got "stat: cannot statx '/dev/ttyUSB0': No such file or directory." Retevis H777 Unable to Connect

Greetings! New CHIRP user here. I ordered (4) Retevis H777 radios and am trying to program them. Two radios are the "newer" version (with usb-c charging) while the other two are an "older" version. I am able to connect, download, and upload to the older version radios, but not the newer version radios. When I try, I get the error message "Error communicating with radio, no response from radio". Tried with all three of the H777 profiles (H777, H777 Plus, H777S). The first two profiles give the same error message already described. The third is a different error message "The radio did not accept program mode after five tries...". Radio is on, tried different computers (Mac and windows) also made sure I was using latest CHIRP build (10-Jan-2025). Nothing works... I am able to program with the Retevis CPS. The "newer" version does have some different features so maybe it needs a new profile/model in CHIRP? Before I submit a bug/new model request, I wanted to check here to see if anyone has advice or experience working with this "newer" H777 model. Thanks!

UV-5R receive issues using CHIRP

I downloaded the CHIRP software I received with the radio, I used updated software to program the radio, it transmits fine, the problem is that I am not receiving anyone, the color on the radio changes as there are people talking, I have a scanner that also confirms that people are talking, but no audio from the radio, with the exception of the National Weather Service that is programmed in. I have some ham radio, FRS, GMRS Freq's programmed in. Since the updated software puts all the information in for us when you enter the frequency, I am not sure what is going on, any solutions?

"Round-trip" processing with Chirp

Hi all: I have used 'chirpc' to connect to my radio and download the memory map. It is my understanding that entries can be added to a .csv file and these can be added to such a memory map file, allowing updating or adding new entries to the memory map. However, I wonder if there is a way to convert the memory map file to a .csv file, allowing the contents to be managed there? This would allow a "round-trip" capability as mentioned in the title: Configuration could be downloaded from a radio, converted into a .csv file, edited as needed, and then inserted into a memory map file and uploaded to the radio. Settings content problem

I'm trying to fix the missing 222 mHz band problem with my Radioddity UV-5rx3, and I've gotten these directions from Chirps' Issues section: Without a copy of an original image (or at least one that wasn't blanked, the best I can offer for you is to do the following... 1. Save the Radioddity_UV-5RX3_20230722(factory).img file that I just attached to a convenient location on your computer 2. Start CHIRP 3. Load the image file that was saved in step 1 into CHIRP 4. Click Settings -> Advanced Settings 5. Click in the field for the bottom Range Override Parameter setting 6. Type CTRL + A to highlight the whole field 7. Type the Delete key to empty the field 8. Manually type in UseAtOwnRisk (do not copy-and-paste from your browser) 9. Upload to your radio 10. Restart CHIRP My problem is that when I go to the Advanced Settings tab, I don't find the indicated Range Override Parameter. The Settings tab itself is at the top of a column on the left side of the screen. I've seen several YouTube videos where the Chriip Settings tab appears about the middle of the screen after some preliminary material. The Settings option on my screen seems to have different content. How do I get to the right version of Settings? Thanks, Charlie

Vertex FTL-1011 on Next

I'm guessing someone already knows this but I tried programming a recently received Vertex FTL-1011 using the latest build of Next and it did not work. I tried on both Linux and Windows to no avail. The initial read crapped out instantly with an error message. Trying it with Legacy worked just fine on both platforms. Should I report this to the developers list? Mark NI2O

Out Of Supported Range Error for BaoFang UV-5RH Pro Max

I'm currently setting up a UK-5RH Pro Max which is able to monitor around 6 frequency bands as well as having the FM Radio function available on many UV-5Rs. I've been trying to set-up a number of additional FM radio frequencies in the range of 88.8 MHz to 107.5 MHz for stations in and around London here in the UK. These frequencies can for the most part be found on the FM radio function, but they can't be named with the built in FM radio scanner - so was seeking to create these as a set of defined channels in my configuration file. I have created these as a CSV and have loaded them into Chirp as a CSV import. However I don't seem to be able to insert them into the configuration file for the handset. Unfortunately, I receive the message "Some memories are incompatible with this radio" and specific errors such as "Frequency 96.400000 is out of supported range" for all 60 that I'm trying to insert. I have added other frequencies from 108 MHz onwards and there are absolutely no problems with these - so am sure that the method I'm using to add these is correct. It seems to just be the question around adding any frequencies below 108 MHz and the Chirp configuration and/or the Radio not accepting them. I've checked the radio and I can scan all of the ranges outlined below, so the radio is capable of receiving on those ranges: - 65-108 MHz FM RX - 108-136 MHz AM RX AM Air Receiving Only - 136-174 MHz FM TX/RX - 220-260 MHz FM TX/RX - 350-390 MHz FM RX - 400-480 MHz FM TX/RX - 480-520 MHz FM RX I have used both the Baofeng UV-5RH and Baofeng 5RM but neither of these allow these frequencies to be added to the listing. I was keen to have FM radio channels with names and direct selection via the channel selection capability, but it seem that this isn't possible. It means that I'd need to scan anywhere where I am and hope to guess what the radio station is. Would anyone know why the software (or Radio/Profile) isn't allowing me to add these frequencies?

No response from radio error

I have searched the archive and could not find an answer. I just purchased a Btech FTDI programming cable. I have been unable to use this cable with the CHRIP programming software, I get a "No response from radio" error message when I try to read any Baofeng radio. I have multiple UV-5R and BF-888s radios, I have tried programming on 3 different computers using Windows 7, 10 and 11 with the same problem! When I look at the device manager, everything looks correct on all 3 computers. If I try using the BF-888 software on the BF-888s radio everything works as it should! Do you have any suggestions to fix this problem?

Yaesu vs. Baofeng/TYT band memories

Greetings, Two amateurs groups need to build up a common group. One has Yaesu FT-4x, the other Baofeng or TYT. Chirp supports both. However, it does not seem possible to past or export-import the band memories from one model to the other - at least I couldn't figure out how to do it. Export to CSV failing when no row selected

I have an Icom-7100. I can download from the radio OK. There are two cases where the export to CSV fails. 1) If no rows are selected. 2) if row 0 and other rows are selected. If I select valid rows, it works. I'm trying to load memories from a .csv file into a TS-480HX that has been modified for MARS use. Frequencies in the ham bands load fine, but none of the MARS frequencies are being accepted. I know it's not the rig because these frequencies have been in the radio memories before. Any ideas? Thanks, John *John C. I found this thread on mygmrs forum about the AR-152 and the effect CHIRP allegedly has on it. It's quite a good thread. I didn't get any hits on RadioReference when I just searched. In a nutshell, it says that once you run CHIRP on your Baofeng AR-152. your power settings are permanently altered such that you no longer have low power or full power anymore. This post is from May and has been relatively quiet since. I wonder if it's still a risk? I have two 152s on the bench right now to program so I saw this post just in time to stop. Both have the firmware rev A152V01 indicated as problematic. AR-5RM - Frequency in this range requires AM mode

When I enter or paste aviation frequencies, ex) 121.500 into memory I get the Warning: Some Memories are incompatible with this radio [700] Frequency in this range requires AM mode [701] Frequency in this range requires AM mode [703] Frequency in this range requires AM mode ... I simply click [OK] on the Warning and everything gets assigned to memory and I can clone into the AR-5RM just fine. The problem is the Warning is not necessary, the AR-5RM does support these frequencies/AM.

TYT TH9000D Plus support?

Will one of the TYT supported radios (TH9000_144, TH9000_220, TH9000_440) work with the TH9000D Plus? Apparently my friends have bad taste in radios and like to purchase units not supported in CHIRP :( In a related subject: Another popular TYT model (the TH8600, which is the only IP65 waterproof rated radio I know of) was being worked on about a year ago, but seems to have gone dead. Is there any plans to support that radio? It's a very popular model among those who use Ham comms in off-road vehicles that are exposed to the elements. I would be willing to send mine to anyone with the know-how to develop support for it. The factory programming software for it sucks!

Whine on trx Low Power in new batch of GT-3TP Baofengs

I bought several new GT-3TP and so far those tested have a whine on trx when running Low power. Audio quality is also inferior to numerous older GT-3TPs we run on the ranch. In the past I'd noticed this whine on a batch of new UV-5Rs I programmed for a friend. The advice back then was that the newer HTs had some differences, and to turn off Battery Saver in CHIRP Setting/Basic Settings to reduce that whine. I never tested that theory. But setting Battery Saver to Off doesn't remove my Low Power whine (recall that the GT-3TP is FCC type UV-5R, CHIRP Model BF-F8HP). So I have a couple of questions for the group: 1) Any other ideas on how to remove that whine on trx? 2) Is Battery Saver worth using at all? Some on RadioReference say it's of no use. For now my workaround is to run M Power (4w) if the whine is too annoying. But I prefer to run Low unless more is needed. Reno K7CRL -- //CRL Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Power-On messages inop in new GT3-TP?

I got a few new GT3-TP spares, and programmed them with CHIRP as usual. Something's changed in the startup display at boot. I use two parameters under "Setting/Other Settings" to display my CHIRP version level and my call sign on boot: Power-On Message 1 used to display on the 1st line Power-On Message 2 used to display on the 2nd line (both briefly on boot) Now, neither works. "GT-3" displays on the 1st line "MARK III" displays on the 2nd line And the 6+Power-On Message settings seem to also be ignored. They are also greyed out in CHIRP, cannot be changed. Anybody BTDT? Got a remedy? I already jailbroke the new units with a hard factory reset. -- //CRL Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

John: A very logical question. No only do I have the NWS 6 or 7 broadcast channels, I also have the two Skywarn channels for my home area, as well as some Fire and EMS dispatch channels in my home area. This 'odd' group allows me to move around the state (in Florida) and not have to specifically program or dial to the specific channel. It's something I want to try now that I know what the TO/CO/SE designations mean. Thanks for your help on this. Actually, Jim responded. I use the 5R, so I followed his instructions just to see the result. I stumbled a bit, because "scroll down to the Detailed Menu Reference" is really "Menu Definitions - Detailed", and my brain was programmed to skim for "Detailed". Persistence helped ;-) But sure enough, the answer is there. Thanks to you both. I updated my notes to "UV-5R scan options: TO=pause on channel; resume after preset time. CO=stop on carrier detect; resume when carrier drops. SE=stop on carrier detect; resumed by user." ...but it has been a while since I used scan on either of my 5R models, so I don't recall what happens with SE. I'll have to read the manual and test. Does it: 1. When SE is active and stopped on a channel, and the user presses SCAN, radios will pick up the scan at the channel point following, and resume scanning. 2. Go back to the beginning of the scan programmed list, and begin again. 3. Start the scan with the current channel, which may still be active. In this case, the user must manually step ahead, then press SCAN. I recently bought a Baofeng UV-17 Pro and it appears to be more or less completely functional. However, I can not seem to pursuade it to be programmed from my computer. I am running the Linux version of Chirp, latest, and using an FTDI programming cable. It has two lights on the USB end of the cable, and plugs in to the headphone and mike jacks on the radio. When I get everything plugged in properly, a green light shows up on the cable. I start Chirp, tell it I want to download from the radio and give it the correct port. ( The radio is on. ) I click the "Start" button, and the screen on the radio lights up, and then shows a picture of a "computer" along with the word "Program." However, shortly afterwards, that display goes away, and Chirp complains that it didn't get as much data as it expected. Any suggestions? Do I have the wrong cable, something else? Thanks, Brian

This is what I have done. I bought a few sets of 2.5 and 3.5 mm TRS extensions, so now I can connect to anything. I found that the mainstream radios had good, repeatable quality control, but the off brands, such as BTECH and BaoFeng had a lot of manufacturing slop. Seems funny, given that the idea of "mass production" is so old. I'm using chirp-20240926-py3-none-any.whl on an Ubunto 24.04.1 laptop. Greetings. Tried running the th8600.py file and I keep receiving this message. "th8600.py", line 21, in <module> from chirp import chirp_common, directory, memmap ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'chirp'" I'm not very familiar with the python world, but I have chirp 3 installed and I'm running macOS Sonoma 14.5. Hi All. Firstly good news, the 20240827 version of Chirp previously downloaded, has now installed with pipx without issue. (happy dance!) I took the advice bellow, and eventually (after first renaming/moving suspect folders etc "out of the way", and making sure nothing else broke.) Swamped out any remains of the older Python 3.9.x folders and data hiding in ~/.local I then removed the remnants of those experiments, again checking nothing else breaks. I next got "diverted" by other life needs, so it got forgotten about. The PC earlier today did a big OS (LMDE6) update, lots of lib's and files, and the kernel, after which of course I rebooted as it requested, no issues... I then noticed and read Jeffrey's mail below, so went and tried the pipx install again. Firstly, I'd forgotten I had uninstalled pipx earlier, so had to 'sudo apt install pipx' again, that completed, and appeared to be a clean install of pipx 1.1.0 That took "an age", from what I could tell of all the "stuff" flying up the terminal session, it did a prety good job of refreshing a lot of Python3 as well. (I have the archive of that output if anyone wants to examine it. A little over 11k of plain text.) I then did... (as a user, not using sudo) * * *dave@hp-compaq-sfdt*:*~*$ pipx install --system-site-packages ~/Downloads/chirp-20240827-py3-none-any.whl installed package*chirp* *20240827*, installed using Python 3.11.2 These apps are now globally available - chirp - chirpc - experttune done! ✨ 🌟 ✨ *dave@hp-compaq-sfdt*:*~*$ chirp And it all seems to work again. Chirp reports (using help | about) that it is :- CHIRP next-20240827 on Python 3.11.2 wxPython 4.2.0 gtk3 (phoenix) wxWidgets 3.2.2 MANY Thanks to all who contributed to the investigation. If it was something I did bad, I'd like to know please, If so, it might also be worth updating the chirp install instructions warning others not to do what I did wrong, if that was the case. Thanks for the replies. Well... After some research. (And still as yet unable to locate "The Pipx people".) (The most informative site I found is at:- https://pipx.pypa.io/stable/troubleshooting/ But I've not yet found a way to locate, let alone to reach out to the Pipx crew.) Anyway, after reading through that page, and also several other similar sites. I uninstalled/purged the antique distro version of Chirp. Then removed/purged python3-venv and python3-pip That also removed pipx. System restart, no issues. I then :- sudo apt install python3-venv python3-pip Completed with no error. Pipx still didn't exist, so... sudo apt install pipx Also completed with no errors. pipx list now returns :*~*$ pipx list nothing has been installed with pipx 😴 System restart again, no issues. Then retried... $ pipx install --system-site-packages ./Downloads/chirp-20240827-py3-none-any.whl The install still fails in the same way as before. :-( Looking at the structure of the .whl file, it "seems" to be a simple compressed archive of a folder structure that contains the application. So, how to install that manually, and invoke it correctly? Or, how to install from sources? Otherwise, I'm stumped. 73. Evening... OK, I've had the time to upgrade from LMDE5 to LMDE6, after uninstalling the earlier resident Chirp, and some other tools that were said to conflict with the upgrade process. (Virtualbox for one...) Overall, the upgrade went well. The system is stable and has been reliably working well for the last week, so time to re-install what was removed prior to the upgrade. So far so good, with other software... Some of it my own Python ramblings, that works just as it did on LMDE5. ("LMDE", is Linux Mint Debian Edition. Mint without any Ubuntu code, just Debian as it's basis, plus the Mint parts.) Anyway... Chirp chirp-20240827-py3-none-any.whl Fresh download an hour ago.... Ubuntu install fails

So after realising my earlier mistake with directories I am facing the following when trying to install on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Fatal error from pip prevented installation. Full pip output in file: /home/jonh/.local/pipx/logs/cmd_2024-08-21_14.10.06_pip_errors.log pip seemed to fail to build package: yattag Some possibly relevant errors from pip install: error: subprocess-exited-with-error TypeError: canonicalize_version() got an unexpected keyword argument 'strip_trailing_zero' error: metadata-generation-failed Error installing chirp from spec '/home/jonh/Downloads/chirp-20240821-py3-none-any.whl'. I can post the full output if that helps, hopefully someone can help me out. Many thanks

Not sure if this is related to the other thread that is running but I didn't see anything relevant in there so posting a fresh thread. Attempting to install Chirp Next on an Ubuntu 22.04lts laptop. Python 3 installs fine but when trying to install I get the following "Unable to parse package spec: ./chirp-20240821-py3-none-any.whl" Have re-downloaded the file but no difference. Any guidance much appreciated for a Linux noob. Thanks all.

Retevis cable issue

Hello I just brought a Retevis RA89 with the 2 Pin Cable from retevis too I use Arch Linux / Debian. Repeater programming with CHIRP

Hi all, just a quick question or two: I'm using the latest build of CHIRP, and when I populate a list of repeaters, the program enters *every freaking repeater in Florida*, which is like a gazillion. I only want repeaters within 100 miles (or less) of me here in the greater Tampa Bay area. I tried to remove some of the entries but that doesn't work. How can I tell CHIRP that I only want repeaters within a certain set of parameters? There doesn't appear to be a way to be more selective with the program. ANY assistance appreciated! Thanks.... Program Memory Banks in Yeas VX170

I have two Yeasu FT 7800R and VX170. After downloading from the FT7800R I can see the MEMORY, BANK, And SETTIN tabs at the top of the file. However when downloading there VX170 I have only the memory tab at the top of the file and it does nothing. In the FT7800R I can move and load memory banks. in the VX170 cannot load or move memory. any Idea ??? Thanks Bob
