[chirp_users] Update a Flatpak?

Good afternoon, all. I have used chirp in the past, but I have a new install of Mint Cinnamon 20.1. I have installed the previous version of Chirp, but just became aware that a new version is available. I cannot remember how I got the flatpak to install initially (must have been easy) and I cannot see how to update it. The built in flatpak manager in mint is not an option when I right click the file in my downloads. Hope I have not muddled my question too much. 73, Steve Sent from ProtonMail for iOS

I have 2 Kenwood TK-760G-1 radios (eBay special, pulls) that are exhibiting the same symptoms. First I tried reading them in Linux - I use this system for programming other, unrelated, radios, so it's my go-to, and it failed. (Details below) It says "Radio Ident Successful", then errors out with "The radio send 28 bytes, we need 258". (Which error I could *swear* I've seen here before and will feel really dumb when someone points me to the already discussed fix.) The radio does go into "PC" mode, per the display. Puzzled, I then obtained a copy of the Kenwood software, KPG-56D v4.22. Installed, plugged in the cable, found the COM port and...it worked like a champ. More puzzled, I grabbed chirp for Windows, installed, and it worked fine. Able to read and write to the radio Tried it again in Ubuntu, no joy. If I have the serial monitor running, Chirp instead gives the error "Error reading data from radio", so I don't have much faith that it's actually giving good data. Using the Kenwood Detect driver returns "No response from radio." I *can* program the radio in Windows, so this isn't *urgent* but...I don't want to. Programmed my NEW Baofeng UV-S9 about an hour ago for the first time, upon completion, upload and restart, I noticed I had no volume. I plugged in the provided earpiece to check if it was the radio and I had sound in the earpiece but not on the radio speaker. Please advise. Thanks

Hello, New to group, searched past 4 months of maillist archives, no obvious discussion about this radio there, so I'm posting here. This new radio is a 'cleaned-up' and TX Freq-limited version of the ever-popular UV-5R - it has as its selling features TX hard-limited to 2m & 70cm US ham bands and claims to have been 'cleaned up' regarding spurious emissions. My issue is, it different from classic UV-5R, so while I can do basic programming I can, for example, set a channel to 'skip' in CHIRP but the GT-5R has no documented skip function, so skip is not transferred to the radio. I also struggle to enter a power-on message, and other minor issues when I pretend it is a UV-5R. Could we create a proper entry for this model? This radio is being targeted for new hams by mfg, and having to jump thru hoops to get it to work with CHIRP is no bueno. I'm happy to test release candidates. Thanks, Ken, N2VIP

I evidently misspoke - it appears I did edit the original files. Attached is the image file I created from the first download, then edited, and a CSV which I just now created via Export. "Radio > Upload to Radio" is available in both files but neither puts the listed freqs into the radio. Microsoft Outlook doesn't seem to like the .img file so I renamed it to .bob. Hopefully you can change it back and have a usable file - please let me know. I have programming software for my various amateur radio equipment as well as specific Motorola software. I was directed here because I need to drop the frequency range on a cdm1550 by 2 MHz all the top of the bottom. From what I have read There is a waris.py file somewhere available for download did enables chirp to work with a Motorola? I am confused on the matter. I've read the offsets that need to be changed with a hex editor and if that's all I need to do then I suppose that will work. On the other hand, I'd love to support chirp financially if it can handle all of my various pieces of equipment from one piece of software. Or am I misunderstanding that I still need my RSS software or CPS software? Thank you in advance.

Pretty safe bet this is all operator error but this thing is eating my lunch! I downloaded and installed the most recent version (20210416) first thing this morning. I tried following the steps in the help documentation - download from radio, export to img file, etc. When I upload the very same image file, with no edits, to the radio it populates both banks with 676.948 Mhz, changes language to Chinese, locks the radio and produces this error: "Edit > Properties" in Chirp does nothing. I've been able to unlock the keyboard and do a reset then change language back to ENG but everything (even FM broadcast if I reset "All") is gone. If I open the exported spreadsheet file I get "Unable to Detect Model" every time so I always choose Radioddity UV-5RX3 as directed by several sources. I edited the spreadsheet, adding a few local repeaters (saved with different filename so still have the original) but, when I open that file I get the attached error plus the "Radio > Upload to Radio" menu option is greyed out. And I never have been able to enter any channels in the 1.25 M band even though the aforementioned upload fills a few memories with channels around 300, 400, 500 & 600 Mhz. I got my first HAM license in the 70's. I was a techy for years (retired now) so this is as embarrassing as it is frustrating but this project is running out of fun!
