[chirp_users] Stable low cost radio with flat audio

I am asking this question here as I believe there is a good collection of folks who are familiar with different radios. Of course whatever is recommended I hope it can be programmed with Chirp. I am looking for a handheld radio that can do 12.5khz bw audio that can be used for data. I would hope it would have a flat audio in/out port but if not mods are part of the game. It needs to be frequency stable (I will be using it for data) and 12.5khz channel widths. and of course programmable with Chirp. The radio cost needs to be low, I would like to keep the whole project under $500. I will need two radios 1 for RX and 1 for TX. There will be a controller involved. If need be I will put each radio in a can for isolation. This is for a solar project so that is also part of the reason to try to use a handheld. -- Chuck -- KP4DJT HamHotline # 11259

Gooday I used this unit to get a a channel from a radio on a repeater is this the transmit or receive channel and the CT tone is positive I think how do I get te other channel end how do I feed it Manuel and with Chirp into my UV5R? Thank you

Hello, I'm trying to reprogram an older Anytone radio but it is not supported by CHIRP. Any advice on how to bypass this? or is there a way to get the radio added? it is an Anytone 3318UV A (with the blue banner on the inside. [chirp_users] Baofeng GM-5RH

I got this GMRS radio on Amazon, and it seems like nobody else bought it. The number of Baofeng variations is silly. It looks exactly like the Baofeng 5RM / AR-5RM (the ham version). I was hoping selecting "5RM" in CHIRP would work, but an error results. Has anybody gotten CHIRP or any other programming software to work with a GM-5RH? Thank you!

Yep, it is a local university that I am going to be working at and found that their security had a freq, i thought I would listen in, listen only, but it looked weird to me. I was able to program a channel in my ht but only get some weird noise, I was wondering if there was some translation required that needed those c12 and type R values to make it audible....if it is at all, maybe it is just digital signal in general and I would not be able to get anything out of it. Where did you get that listing? If we know what you hope to monitor, we may find an alternate source for the information. That C12 tone setting looks vendor-specific, it likely 'maps' to either a standard DCS or CTCSS tone. Unless it is a digital mode Color code, but that feels unlikely... I have a baofeng F8HP that I would like to add a frequency to. The details I have are as follows Frequency: 472.6125 Type R Tone C12 How can I input that Type and Tone value in Chirp? Can I? Thank you Rob

It is a bug in the firmware in the radio. There are a bunch of other known firmware bugs. My modified CPS provides a 50+ page manual which includes a section on firmware bugs - look for the section titled "Known radio firmware issues". You can get my modified CPS from the miklor.com website. Before you ask, there are no public firmware updates. Even the seller (Global Walkie Talkie Store) can't get them, even just to update their inventory. Radios ordered before roughly November 2023 came with firm- ware 1.27, radios ordered since come with Firmware 1.28. The new vers- ion does not fix any known bugs, it just adds a mysterious "Dis ANI" menu option and allows changing the Tx power on-the-fly using the "8" key on the keypad. -- Terri Kennedy

I completed testing and filed a bug report. Summary: Testing indicates that chirp import routine for this radio doesn't handle either empty fields or "spaces" in fields that are otherwise properly csv-delimited. Until this is changed, we must FILL referenced fields, even when not used, and CLEAR otherwise empty fields, such as Duplex. It's the work of a few minutes to do this. Otherwise, Excel files seem to work when exported to csv and imported into chirp, so there is no format flaw introduced by Excel, such as the wrong number of trailing commas, etc., at least in my testing and use. 73 Rich NE1EE
