Unless you are running a very old version of CHIRP (something like from 2014 and before), CHIRP fully supports all 256 possible Windows serial ports from COM1 to COM256. And if I recall, even the very early versions of CHIRP running under Windows supported COM1 to COM16. If you properly configure a higher COM port number in Windows, restart CHIRP and it should be detected. Jim

We are looking for a Ham that has a FTL-7011 (any variant but the 99ch one) and the interface to program it to help us with some tests. Driver is almost done, but need some FTL-7011 to validate the drivers before release. Hi Team, I just acquired an Icom IC-7000. I’ve reviewed the Chirp literature, looks like I need a OPC-478. This plugs into the CV-I interface correct? At present only the ‘A’ memory bank is supported, correct? Any other insights on using Chirp with the IC-7000? Thanks Carl

[chirp_users] Lighthouse Radio Network HELP!

Hello there! I represent a group that has been restoring the Cape Decision Lighthouse in southeast Alaska for the past twenty years, and one of our projects this summer is to establish a GMRS radio network on our property. The radios are all getting shipped to Alaska now, but the person who was going to help us program them is no longer available! I am writing to see if anyone here might be willing to help us, potentially by writing and sending us the Chirp files needed to get us up and running. There is no internet or cell coverage where we’re going, but I’ll have a brief opportunity this coming Friday to sit with the radios and a computer and Chirp before we leave for the lighthouse on Saturday. The system includes: (3) Baofeng handhelds (1) Baofeng mobile base (1) Retivis repeater I can send send more details about makes and models and any other information you may require! My hope is that someone on this list can can help ensure that the base station and handhelds and repeater can all communicate with each other with Chirp files I can easily upload into each radio. I would expect the radios to already be programmed to have all of the GMRS frequencies already in them. but, if you want to set them up, to only have some of the frequencies/ctc codes. then you should be able to use Chirp. You can put in Chirp into a computer, then, when you first start, you download an image file of the existing radio's program, modify that to how you want it, and, then upload it back into the radio. You will need to do this procedure for the base unit, repeater, and the portable radios. But, you should only need one image file for the portables, and can use the same programming for all of them, so that they are identical. If you haven't looked at a video, or, read the procedures to use Chirp, you definitely need to. And, of course, you will need to have a programming cable. If your cable is made with a fake prolific chip, which most are, then, you will need to use the v3.3.2.105 driver. Miklor.com, has this information. Hi Team I’m using Yaesu FT-70D. I can download radio settings fine. Note though, that support for the PX-2R is also not working. Reading from or writing to the radio, especially writing to the rig, as it will need a full factory reset afterwards, loosing anything you may have manually entered into the rig. See https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/6389 for details. Bernhard Hailer did look into it, for which I'm grateful, and reported that there seems to be a fundamental data value range limit issue elsewhere in Chirp that causes problems. "Looks like the number of DCS codes reported by the radio exceeds what Chirp expects or can handle." I just confirmed that CHIRP is running on the leaked Windows 11 Pro 64-bit preview. I am using a generic 6-in-1 programming cable with Prolific USB-to-Serial chip. I have installed the Prolific v3. 2. 0. 0 driver but the Prolific v3. 8. 39. 0 auto installed by W11 is currently selected and working. Jim KC9HI
