[chirp_users] Programming Yaesu Radios using CHIRP

Has anyone had a problem programming a Yaesu radio with CHIRP? Someone mentioned that their Yaesu was damaged and had to be sent to the factory because CHIRP had overwritten some code controlling the processor. It also had to be re-flashed. Since I don't fully understand how CHIRP works this doesn't make sense to me, but knowing manufacturing companies, they may share Channel Memory with processor memory and not think much about it. If you are interested in trying it, grab it from the following location: http://trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp_daily/daily-20190429 A list of the changes included in this build (since the last daily) follows: Changes for Build #578 [Jim Unroe <rock.unroe(a)gmail.com>] [KT-8900D] Support Radios With Missing TMR Choice A bug with the TMR feature was discovered during the initial development of this driver. The 15 choices listed in the TMR menu of the radio did not match the 15 choices of same setting in the factory programming software. They each had a choice available that the other did not have. The bug was reported. Soon after that a pre-production BTech model was received from Baofeng Tech that corrected the TMR menu to have a complete set of 16 choices. It was assumed that the other Vendor/Model variants would receive the same update to the TMR menu. This 16 choice layout is what the initial CHIRP driver for these radios was then based on. Apparently the bug was not universally fixed in the TMR menu of non-BTech variants so some models continue to ship with the M+A+B+D choice missing from the TMR menu. This patch creates a 15 choice list to be use with color mobile radios that have the M+A+B+D choice missing (such as the QYT KT-7900D and KT-8900D). #5999

Why?: Many of us put the name (Alpha tag) of the freq in A Bank and the freq (Numeric Value) in B Bank. How do you get CHIRP to work on a MacBook Pro? I keep getting an error message (“radio not communicating”, or something like that). According to the download site, and also with the cable I have, it’s supposed to be compatible. The sky is not blue. It merely looks that way because blue is the name we have given that color. I am fairly surprised to see technically savvy ham radio operators so inept at using a simple software program like Chirp. I would suggest to new users of Chirp to after install, download and save your original configuration to an image file for later. Then click on everything and go through each and every menu and sub menus. Experiment!! You really can’t break anything. (I hope). Sorry to be critical but it seems some users don’t even try on their own before they come here for help. You can do this!! Off my soap box and back to lurking. -- Dennis M. Scrambling is done in the radio itself. Not all radios have it. Programming software has nothing to do with it except to enable, disable or select the settings that the radio uses. There might not be a menu item in Chirp for it, but there probably is a menu in the radio for it. Possibly the only way to set it is with the manufacturer's programming software.
