Has anyone had a problem programming a Yaesu radio with CHIRP? Someone mentioned that their Yaesu was damaged and had to be sent to the factory because CHIRP had overwritten some code controlling the processor. It also had to be re-flashed. Since I don't fully understand how CHIRP works this doesn't make sense to me, but knowing manufacturing companies, they may share Channel Memory with processor memory and not think much about it. Well there's some truth there, but what truth I'm aware of should not scare anyone off from using chirp with Yaesus. Back in early 2014 I was doing some chirp code development on FT-60s, fixing some bugs and with the eventual goal of adding "Settings" control. Someone else has since done that. Part of that process is mapping the memory by twiddling bits in the image, uploading to the radio, and seeing through the radio's button interface what changed. It went pretty smoothly for a while, then I managed to brick *TWO* FT-60s. One of which was repaired by sending it to the factory to replace an eprom. I'm not going to add any further detail here, my investigation was pretty thoroughly documented in a thread on the chirp_devel mail list with subject "How to brick an FT-60" starting 3/22/14. See also Bug #1547: [FT-60] Chirp should check parity on download. But normal use of chirp to program radios doesn't do this. The user interface only lets you make limited, well understood changes to the radio image bitmap. [chirp_users] Having Receive only on some channels on Baofeng UV-5R + Plus

Hi All, Thanks for Reading. I just programmed up a UV-5R+ Plus for a friend of mine and that worked out good with the Chirp program but there are some Frequencies that I would like to have Receive only on the radio. I went through the program and I didn't see anything listed to do so. Did I overlook it or does this program not have that feature??? Thank you very much in advance for your response back. Thank you, did that, and used the ppa. Regardless, sudo apt-get remove chirp-daily, but left the Python libraries. Used wget to get today’s daily. Under the Help menu, it displays CHIRP daily-20190321 I have enabled the developer functions. I’ve tail -f /var/log/syslog to find any info. It shows what dmesg output when the cable was inserted. Yes, thx. Ubuntu 14 xfce chirpw -v returns version 4.0.0-RELEASE which has a date of 12/21/2013 That’s alarming, so I apt-get update and reinstalled chirp-daily In terminal, it unpacks to 20190319-trusty over the one I installed from last week. Is this the version number? I have searched and tried all the troubleshooting steps I can find online. I’ve made many attempts to get the chirp software to clone my Baofeng UV-82L. This is the latest. I’ve bought a second cable that seemed to be recommended by Miklor. Installed the latest chirp onto Ubuntu xfce. When I connect the cable into USB I see this via dmesg usb 1-2: new full-speed USB deice number 6 using ohci-pci New USB device found, idVendor=la86, idProduct=7523 New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 Product: USB2.0-Serial ch341 1-2:1.0: ch341-uart converter detected usb 1-2: ch341-uart converter now attached to ttyUSB0 That suggests to me that the computer recognizes the cable correctly and is assigned to USB0. Please correct me if I’ve made the wrong assesment. After booting the chirpw program I have connected the other plug into the two ports of the radio, turned on the radio, turned the sound up. Set to the upper band. Selecting USB0 Baofeng UV-82L Terminal reports Clone failed: Radio did not respond. I have done every possible way to wrench that plug into the radio to see if it can possibly connect on each attempt to get it to initially clone. Perhaps there’s something wrong with this three-year-old radio? There is no debug.log in my home .chirp directory, just config files. thx, sam
