[chirp_users] Application Crashes in Mac

After some help from some folks on this users group I was able to get my Mac to recognized the the serial cable. However the problem I am having now is the application crashes after the upload from the radio is complete. I uploaded the latest version of Chirp(20170627) but that did not solved the problem. The Mac is running macOS Sierra version 10.12.5. Thanks for the help. John Laiosa N1BSO

[chirp_users] MacOS 10.13.1 breaks FTDI drivers?

After loading High Sierra (10.13.1) last night, my macbook running the current version of Chirp will no longer communicate with any of my radios. Moving the same radio and cable to another Mac, also running the 20171104 version of Chirp, everything is normal. It appears that although the FTDI cable is recognized in the System Report on the USB bus, Chirp can no longer reach the serial interface on the radio. I reloaded Python runtime module, but no improvement. Also went to FTDI and loaded their v2.4.2 drivers for MacOS. Also no help. Chirp’s debug log keeps saying “Radio did not respond” My FTDI cable has LEDs. When attached to the 10.13.1 machine, no lights are flashing when attempting to download from the radio or upload to the radio. Any suggestions for next steps? Debug log attached. - Charley

I have used chirp on my baofeng and my kenwood with awesome results. I just got a icom 7100 and I am not able to get chirp to talk to it. I have tried different computers (both w10 if that matters) and different usb cables (the one that came with the radio and another I had). I installed the USB driver software from icom and when the radio is plugged in to either computer I see com4 and com5. When I tell chirp to read from radio on com4 and tell it the radio is an icom and to auto detect the model chrip sees that its an ic-7100 but I get 1 memory per second and the name is error. If I try to put something into the memory chirp comes back and says timeout error. I saw a bug report that someone posted about the ic-7100 saying their civ address was set wrong and the fix was to use 88h. Mine is set to 88h and it does not work. Does anyone have any tips/tricks/suggestions to help me get chirp to talk to my new ic-7100? Thanks.

It probably uses a fake Prolific chipset, all too common sadly. Windows will not use those now, unless you roll back the driver, but then Windows will "update" it to the latest again at the next opportunity. If you turn Windows updates off, then you are potentially vulnerable for other troubles as they are found later. They still work OK on most Linux's though, as does Chirp just fine. Solution, use a FTDI based cable (if you can find a seller to guarantee that they are genuine too) or build your own cable with a known genuine USB<>Serial chip. The "Genuine" Prolific chips are OK in Windows. Silicon Lab's chips are OK too, but you'll have to install drivers yourself for them, except on Linux, where they "just work" without issue on most distro's. Note: The "Fake" chips, are actually micro-controllers programmed to emulate Prolific or FTDI chips. The emulations are quite good, but can be detected by the "official" drivers. The current official Prolific drivers will not use the Fakes. Similarly, FTDI drivers will not use the fakes either. Earlier FTDI drivers would "brick" them by resetting the VID/PID values to zero. Caused a lot of bad press that did. (But they can be un-bricked!) The fake FDTI chips can be identified as being unable to re-assign the auxiliary I/O pin functions. Well, the software is happy, but the change doesn’t actually happen. That's how I found one, I needed to invert the TXD line, but no change happened. I have also personally come across a chip that was marked up as FTDI, but identified itself to the PC as Prolific! I suspect there are undocumented ways to "configure" the emulation. Take care. 73. Bought a Hesenate transceiver and cannot get to connect to PC. I also purchased a Baofeng cable & downloaded CHIRP from the Chirp web site for windows. Do I need a special driver for the software to connect or does it come imbedded in the software? The spread sheet shows under file new but cannot save entries made. Ray

As I had an old TM-G707 installed in the car recently tried to use CHIRP for this radio to. Can get the current contents of the memory, and manage to get most of the repeaters loaded into the radio. But it seems to skip the ones with a intermediate 12.5Khz value. 145.600 is ok, 145.6125 is not getting in. Can manually update the skipped ones so it seems it is not the radio by definition blocking these values. Seems an issue with the software. But maybe you all know if there is a pre-requisite in the radio settings that would enable this 12.5Khz raster frequencies to get accepted. Many thanks in advance. PS: Is there a readable overview of all correspondence somewhere. Found some digested by months/thread but not handy to open them one by one for the last years..... Ron - PA3FAT

[chirp_users] UV-25X4 squelch threshold settings

RE: BTECH UV-25X4. I'd like to see a service settings option to adjust the squelch thresholds. This radio has no squelch hysterisis and on simplex, the squelch will close on fading signals. I have submitted a feature request to the chirp tree.
