I have installed the KK7DS_Python_Runtime_R5, Chirp 0.1.12, KawaMall USBSerial cable with Prolific PL2303 drivers, and am trying to program a Yaesu FT8800R. When I can verify that that my usbserial devices in connected through system profiler. When I connect the radio and open Chirp I select the usbserial device and start a download. The radio immediately quits with an error and Chirp reports 'An error occurred' 'ord() expected a character, but string of length 0 found'. How can I start to debug this error?

To add the repository as a software source, please follow these instructions: http://www.d-rats.com/component/content/article/30-d-rats-yum-repository/ I know it says d-rats, the chirp files are in the same repository After setting up the repository, open the "Add/Remove Software" tool and go to "software sources" under the system menu. Make sure the "KK7DS Ham Apps Beta Software" line is checked (enabled). For some reason, the Fedora package manager likes the beta versions better that the daily builds, so you may not see the daily release in the list the first time you update. If you don't see it, open a terminal window and enter: yum update chirp-daily_10312011 Or, If you are running Fedora fc13 or earlier, enter: yum update chirp-daily_10312011-1.fc13 That should install the latest daily build. Daily build 10262011 for Mac OS. Using a USB-Serial adapter on my Kenwood TH-K2. Chirp says "unable to probe radio model." Works great with my Puxing-777 though.

That means that my mapping of the bit that controls whether the name is used or not is not correct. The code is *attempting* to always enable the display of the name. [chirp_users] latest build trouble on MacOS

I downloaded the .1.1.12 .zip file for MacOS. After Extraction when I run the .App it prompts about being first time run and do I want to download. Immediately after clicking 'OK' it gives an error saying "unable to fetch CHIRP 0.1.12". Is there a way to manually download the full App?

Dan I tried to set the FM Narrow option on the FT-8800, the mode only seems to give me options for FM & AM. Using other software I have options of FM, FMN, and AM. We are stating to go NarrowBand FM here in the DFW area to attempt to free up some frequencies for more repeaters. What do you need to add this mode ? Would a set of files similar to the ft-60 files work ? one for FM , one for Am and one for NFM ? Allan R. Batteiger WB5QNG

[chirp_users] SOLVED: Problems under Ubuntu 11.10?

This is my last thread butchery for the day, promise! I found out what the "problem" is, if there really is one. Its more like user error, certainly not a problem with Chirp its self. The "problem" is the Unity interface under Ubuntu. The menu bar is taken away from the app window, and stuck up at the top of the screen but kept invisible until mouseover. When Chirp starts up, it is not full screen and has nothing to display. However, if the user moves the mouse to the top of the screen, the menu bar appears and the app is quite useable. The most intuitive way around this is simply to maximise Chirp - the top of its window then sits below the menu bar and everything feels reasonably good! Chirp seems to be programming my UV-3R very nicely indeed - I'm over the moon that I can have the same memories in my 3R and my VX-6 with ease! Unity is pretty, but it does have its usability problems from time to time, hi! Thanks and 73, Dave M0MYA.
