[chirp_users] Radio Not Communicating With Laptop
I've downloaded the software & installed. I keep getting error message the radio is not connected. What am I doing wrong?
Sent from my iPad
Be sure to push the plug firmly all the way in to the radio . you may see that it's it's a little bit crooked. they seem to mold a little too much rubber on the plug in a little while have to be shaved off on the top side to get it to fit all the way in. I had to do that to mine and then it work properly. On Nov 5, 2015 1:08 PM, "Ray Nelson via chirp_users" < chirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.com> wrote:

How about your serial port ? I just jumped in, so forgive me if I'm redundant. If you do not know which port is being used, unplug your USB-to-radio cable at the computer end. Re-plug it and watch for a small notice specifying the port to which the computer connected it. Verify that CHIRP is looking at the correct port. I just went through this, within the past half hour. Good luck. I'm a newbie, here, too. Dave

Hi Dave, I don't believe there will be a need to be concerned with the port number if the prolific 2303 driver is downloaded and installed. when I did that it immediately recognized the circuitry in the patch cord. On Nov 5, 2015 1:51 PM, "dmdfacp@gmail.com" dmdfacp@gmail.com wrote:

I am having the same problem as Ray, but also with my TH 9800. The TYT software can't see the radio either. So I don't think it is the plug on the Baofeng cable in my case.
Thanks for any help...

Some of resolutions sound cable related, and others driver related.
I hope this helps.

Hmm. My automatic don't-worry-your-little-head default was port 6. In fact, the correct one was #10 on my Dell running XP. Checking the port number is always high in my "Oh, crap" checklist. Indeed, my driver software was installed several years ago; I do not know which it is. Again, I'm new with CHIRP, so I beg your patience !!

No programming software can work if the user doesn't provide a complete and working connection between the radio and computer.
The #1 cause of problems for Windows with Prolific chip based programmings cables is the device driver that is automatically installed by Windows is incompatible with the Prolific type chip in the programming cable. There are basically 2 fixes:
1. downgrade to the older (but compatible) Prolific v3.2.0.0 device driver http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php
2. purchase a programming cable with an FTDI type chip
The #2 cause of problems is the 2-pin plug is not fully inserted into the socket. Most that swear that it is in fully are amazed when they finally get it to go in the remaining distance.

Sometimes, though, you have to do a little whittling on the rubber on the plug to get it to go all the way in. I had to do that on mine but fortunately I caught the mismatch before I ever even tried to program it. But it did work the first time I tried it.
