[chirp_users] Novel solution to Baofeng UV-5R's "Radio did to respond" problem?
Hey folks,
Debugging tonight I managed to get my radio to talk to CHIRP a few times, but very unreliably. I trimmed the connector and made sure it was well plugged in. I even updated to the next -nightly in case that helped. No.
Eventually what I figured out something that works 100% of the time for me: squeezing the radio and programming adapter tightly in my hands while programming.
Thanks for CHIRP, it was very easy to re-join the world of ham radio and get connected to a lot of local repeaters.

Glad you got the combination working, sounds like you determined it was a mechanical issue, not software, so that's good.
I'd encourage you to find someone with a working Baofeng setup and try their cable with your radio and your cable with their radio. Simply comparing the K connectors on the two cables may be instructive, showing you where a bit more shaving may make the connector fit better, work more reliably.
Good luck,
Ken

Another approach is to bevel the four edges with a pocket knife, affectively making the insertion piece a bit smaller, because it may not be the flat surface that is the problem, but the outer diameter of the plug. That is what I wound up doing (I used a Dremel and a rattail file) and it solved the problem nicely.

Marty, nope, I don't think anyone CAN unsubscribe you ... but you can unsubscribe yourself.
At the bottom of each message there's an unsub link, it looks like this: To unsubscribe, send an email to chirp_users-unsubscribe@intrepid.danplanet.com
If you use it you won't get any more messages and you won't be sending messages that ask others what you can do yourself.

You have to unsubscribe yourself. There is a link at the bottom of every message for that purpose.
