[chirp_users] Download & execute
I need help getting chirp to down load, extract in to XP. Have down load to XP desk top , c & my documents, Can't find an execute file to get chip to load up. Have z7 zip on desk top to. Can some on give me a step by step. I don't have a cable or radio yet. Wanted to pick and load my repeats so I'm ready when the hardware arrives. Thanks KB0VOY
To start, go Download the Latest Daily Build to your PC.
http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_CHIRP.php
CHIRP is designed to work with a great number of PCs.
For CHIRP to recognize what radio you have you need to Download Image from Radio to CHIRP to set up the initial image.
Now you can start entering data for your radio.
When finished, then you can upload the new template image to your radio.
Obviously you can't do this part until your cable arrives.
While you are waiting for your cable to arrive, read the Drivers page thoroughly at Miklor.com
The biggest problem most people run into is not running the proper drivers when using a generic programming cable.
If the wrong driver is installed, it will not work. For XP you need Prolific 2.0.2.1

Hope this helps.

A small addition to these comments. A cable and radio are not needed if you can get a CHIRP file for that radio model.
You can then open that file and make any changes desired.
I'm sure someone can send you a sample CHIRP file for your radio, just ask.

This is only half true. The recommended work flow is to enter all of your frequencies into a master CSV that you can import into all your radios. He can get started with this without a radio. Then when he gets his radio and cable, all he has to do is copy and paste the channels over, no retyping.
Save the master CSV in the stock_configs folder to make it easy to find next time.

Go to http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download, then download the installer, it is an exe file. Do not download the zip file. The installer is just above the zip file. Run the installer, and Chip will show up in your menu system.

Chirp shows in programs comes up as a blank page , no lines just file edit radios view help on top. changed view to English restart and still no channel lines on page. Not plugged in to radio but shouldn't the page show channel lines?

Hi
Not until you have a template to view which comes from the radio. Included in the template will be undisclosed rig information. So you must connect your radio and do a download of what is in the memory positions there, then you can save it, edit it, add to it, what ever, then upload it back to the radio. If you have a CSV template for the rig then you can edit that somehow. There is a howto on the web site in many archived emails to show where the web site is.
Good Luck.

That is normal.
No spreadsheet will show until you load one.
normally you download from radio. Spreadsheet appears. You edit, save, then upload new file to radio. Editing can include cutting and pasting from other spreadsheets.
If you want an idea of what it will look like, open one of the "Stock Configs"

Execute CHIRP - Go to top left and click FILE - Then click OPEN STOCK CONFIG - This will at least show you what to expect from CHIRP.

Choose File -> New. You'll see a Generic CSV spreadsheet and can start typing in your frequencies.
When you get your radio, choose Radio -> Download From Radio. Now you'll have two spreadsheets, one specific to your radio and one Generic CSV. Copy and paste from the Generic CSV, use the import feature, or type directly into your radio specific spreadsheet. Now choose Radio -> Upload to Radio and your radio is programmed.
