[chirp_users] Yaesu FT8900R Cloning
Hi everyone,
Windows 10 computer
I am trying to clone the Yaesu FT8900R (this is the first time)
I use CHIRP and I follow the CHIRP instructions (same as in Yaesu manual)
I turn on the radio, go to F6 "clone start", then push "set"
Nothing happens...after a few seconds, I get error message stating it could not find the item location (com port). Tried several times on all four active ports.
Checked "device manager" and the four ports are active and well
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Joe
You have to select the USB port that your radio is connected to.

Use Device Manager to see what comm port you are connected to. Unplug and plug back in your cable, the one you are using will disappear and come back. Next, check the driver and cable model name. If it shows you are using a Prolific cable, roll back your driver to 3.2.0.0.
When you are going thru the clone process, always read the radio first, modify your file, then write to the radio. When the instructions says to push the Set button, it is the fastest push you can do and release, don’t press too long.

Thank you very much quick response. It is very much appreciated
I am using an FTDI chipsets table that I purchased from one of our fellow amateur colleagues.
I will try your suggestion in the morning and let you know how it goes. Assuming it goes well, you win the lottery

Joe,
You don't select a USB port. The radio uses serial communications. The programming cable has a chip inside that when used with the appropriate device driver installed in the Windows operating system, creates a virtual serial port (COM port) for the programming software to connect to. Follow the advice provided by Jardy in an earlier reply.

Morning, I find using the Yaesu software is better than CHIRP.

Yaesu does not have software. Are you referring to RT Systems software?

Sorry, you select the COM port that connects to your USB device.
You have a USB to serial COM port adapter and it connects to your computer. If you unplug it, you can see the COM port disappear when you unplug the USB cable, plug it back in, and make note of the COM port used.
Sorry, I goofed on the answer,

I am using a IMac I am having trouble getting to the page to upload my frequencies to Chirp. I have downloaded Chirp, then I get to a page that says do you wish to donate. Where do I go from there?
