[chirp_users] UV-82 Support for MAC OSX
Hi, I have a Baofeng UV-5R, BF-F8, and a UV-82. The Mac OSX software works great with the UV-5R and the BF-F8, but it won’t work with the UV-82. I’m using the Baofeng USB Programming cable. I’ve noticed that the latest Chirp version for Windows includes support for the UV-82. I’ve tried the Windows version with the UV-82 and it works fine.
I was wondering if there is a new version of Chirp in work for the MAC that would include support for the UV-82? Thanks!
did you try one of the latest daily build? look on the download page for daily builds.

Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPad
Is there a new daily build for Mac OS? I couldn't find one, where is the correct place to look? Thx

When you say it doesn't work, what do you mean? Wont run, read the 82, or load the chirp file on the the 82?

Jeff,
Where are you plugging the USB into? If it's your KB, there may not be enough power to read/write properly.
I'm waiting for my cable to arrive, however, when it does, I'll report my findings, and my configuration(s).
I'm running OS X 10.7.X, and the latest daily build as of Monday .

Dennis, Thanks for your help. I'm not sure what KB is, I'm plugging the USB directly into the port on the MacBook Pro. I use the same USB port when I boot the Macbook pro in OSX or Windows 7. Chirp works on the UV-82 running Windows 7, but not when running OSX.
The UV-5 and the BF-F8 work fine with the same USB port regardless of which OS I'm running.
I'm running OS X 10.8.x

KB = Key Board
Since you're running a dual boot system, I feel I can assume you have a better idea of what's going on then some users.
Have you tried the Linux CD? I think holding down Apple-C during boot will allow you to boot off of a CD.

I dont have UV82, but a few questions to help narrow down the troubleshooting:
1. are you using the same (latest daily) version of chirp for windows and mac? 2. when you are in mac, and the UV5 and BFF8 are working, are they using the exact same cable that is not working for UV82?

Hi Jeff,
The daily versions of chirp for windows and Mac don't track. They are separate downloads, and there really haven't been any updates to the Mac version for quite a while.
Please try to avoid offering incorrect answers to questions if you're not an authority. They all go into the archives and things like this end up confusing people down the road as "something they heard on the mailing list" or "something they found on google".
The packages for each daily build are created automatically by the build system for all the supported platforms. That means that the Windows installer and zip, the Linux tarball, the Linux .deb PPA packages, and the MacOS .app are all generated every time there is a build. They are generated from the exact same commit in the source tree and contain the same functionality, features and fixes.
Thanks!

I'm very sorry Dan, I learned something here. Thanks for setting me straight.
I did download the mac and win versions the same day. I don't remember which day, but it was within the last week.

Thanks for understanding. It's fantastic how many people we have here actually helping other users so that the developers can concentrate on other things. It used to be just me answering questions in the early days. I know your intentions were good, and your effort to help other people out is much appreciated :)

Well success for my new Baofeng UV-82 on the Mac. I just downloaded the latest Mac version from this link: http://trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp_daily/LATEST/chirp-daily-20140102.app....
I have been using this driver for the USB cable all along: http://changux.co/osx-installer-to-pl2303-serial-usb-on-osx-lio/PL2303 Serial-USB on OSX Lion.pkg When you run Chirp and select upload or download here is what shows in the port selection box: /dev/cu.PL2303-0000101
My UV-5, BF-F8 and the UV-82 all upload and download just fine.
For the record, I’m using an early 2008 MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X v10.9.1
Thanks for all the help and for teaching me a thing or two!!!!! Jeff W3MLC

I was getting the Bluetooth as the only data link, once I loaded the PL2303 driver(s) everything works like a charm.
I did "upgrade" to the latest daily build.

I think I understand what you are saying, but I never tried that, can't help right now. But you tweeked my interest.
Are you talking about creating a file in an Excel spreadsheet in the same format as Chirp, saving it to a cvs, and then importing to chirp? Or copy/paste the rows into chirp? Or something else?
I think I'll tinker with that over the weekend. Jeff

Jeff,
Sorry if I wasn't clear - tired and typing on an Android tablet is not my best skill.
In Chirp you can create a file as a CVS, it's one of the formats Chirp lets you save as, I've just found that Chirp wants to see a .IMG file to do an upload to the radio.
Thanks,
Denis

You all do know that Chirp will import an img file from another brand radio? Or between different models of the same manufacturer. I didn't read much of this topic's thread except in this message. The import direct without using a CVS file works well with the need for an additional tweaking of cells in the channel rows. Just wanted to be sure that this was known to all involved. I've shared the img file between 4 different radio manufacturers with a minimal amount of effort. Now have 5 handy talkies and 3 mobiles with the same channels and settings.
