I gave up trying to program the Baofeng BF-888s and returned it.
I notice Amazon is selling a Baofeng BF-888S Plus which is claimed to be an ”upgrade version” but probably uses the same electronics. The first Amazon review that came up on my browser dated December 28, 2016 stated “It was a breeze to program using CHIRP.”
However a search of the chip issues page shows Bug #3651 stating “So basically CHIRP does not support the BF-888s Plus.” It has not been updated in 8 months so I assume that is still the case.
Does anyone know if the BF-888s Plus is supported by Chirp on a Mac?
Thank you for your responses to my earlier question.

Looks like if you send the info they need they will get it working.

Did you download the 888 software from Baofeng web site? That's what I use on mine. It has the scramble option and all. Never could get chirp to work with it either.

Someone sent me one of the BF-888S radios that won't program. It programs just fine for me. The only way I can get it to not program was to intentionally install and select an incompatible device driver for the programming cable.
Also, CHIRP supports the scramble option.

I agree. I have purchased over 20 BF-888s and 777 (same radio). Programmed all of them with chirp...They work great.

Hi Ed, I programmed the UV5R, but I had issues as well. The programming cable I bought wasn't one actually manufactured by Baofeng. As a result, I had a really difficult time getting the correct drivers installed for the USB chipset they used. Have you verified the USB drivers are correct?

If it's this item, I bought a pair of them in October and had no trouble with CHIRP:
