[chirp_users] Cannot program Simplex from Imported CSV
I have a .img file created by reading an Anytone 588UV.
I have another .csv file I want to use to populate the 5888 file.
In my .csv file, all the channels are 'split' in the Duplex Column, and the absolute frequency shows in the offset column.
If I paste the data from the .csv file into my CHIRP .img file:
1. my only choices become '-' or '+' in the Duplex Col of the .img file for the 5888, whereas they were 'split' in the .csv file 2. and in the Offset col the simplex channels are blank in the Offset column, and the repeater channels have been transposed to an offset value rather than an ablsolute value.
Is this because CHIRP will not allow 'split' as an option for duplex because of the radio model number for some reason?
Regards, John

Yes, exactly. If you look at the 5888 in the Model Support page, you'll see it doesn't support Odd Split.
http://chirp.danplanet.com/download/0.4.0/Model_Support.html
I believe this is a limitation of the Chirp implementation, not the radio itself. Chirp developers haven't taken the time to support every feature on every radio. This is just one detail that was skipped, because offset is equally functional.
Chirp is smart enough to convert an odd split to an offset when importing, as you have found.
Tom KD7LXL
If you mean an odd split as something besides the normal .600 or 5.000 mhz shifts, like using 1.000 mhz on VHF yes the radio can do up to 100.000 mhz shifts in increments of 10 khz steps.

Thanks for that. Although I see that Chirp is smart enough to convert an odd split to an offset when importing , what seems to happen is the simplex channels end up as receive only because there is nothing in the offset channel. When I first saw that with some handhelds I had done, I assumed it was just transmitting on the same frequency, then I discovered that there was nothing for a transmit frequency when it is configured that way. Is there a way to import the simplex channels so that they will transmit?

This might be a bug in the logic. I think no offset should be simplex, and "off" should be TX inhibit. Can you send me some samples with instructions on how to reproduce?

It's been a while, but I remember having similar problems after importing channels from a Wouxun 2D.
IIRC, freqs that I didn't want to transmit on (e.g. public service) suddenly had xmit frequencies on the 5R. I don't remember what the process did to simplex, but in any case I just sorted the CHIRP columns by "duplex," bulk-selected the ones that weren't right, then right-clicked into editing mode to change them all at once.
Duplex = "none" is simplex, and "off" for xmit inhibit.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for that Jeff. That is helpful, as I had forgotten about that edit mode being a possibility.
You mention you had the problem with a Wouxun. I noticed the problem when I first programmed a Wouxun KG-816. I had assumed that when the offset was blank it would Tx on the same frequency, then later discovered I was wrong.
My channels are grouped, they are arranged by Tx frequency so that I can color code the appropriate antennas. So my only dilemma would be if I sort on Duplex, getting them back into ascending order based on the Tx frequency seems like it would be problematic because I don't have a Tx frequency to sort on, just the offset. But if I see Duplex = (None), then in fact I do have simplex after all?

No problemo, John. If I get a chance to play with it, I'll see if things still behave the same; it's possible I was using an older daily build at the time.
A bit of a problem sorting by xmit frequency for sure. Maybe sorting by receive frequency would be good enough for keeping track of antennas? Otherwise some sort of back and forth import/export/sorting action in Excel, though that doesn't seem like much fun.
But yes, the simplex channels I have are all "none" for the duplex field.

Thanks Jeff,
I'll upload all those that I imported from CSV into the 5888 as they all say 'none', and then see how it goes, it sounds like I will have simplex which is great, this is for a SAR Group, 12 radios, and there's going to be about 150 channels in there, which I'd prefer not to have to edit by hand.
Thanks again to everyone that has helped with this.

Now uses the info Milton provided iwth the examples here
http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_CHIRP.php
You probably are going to need to find out the CTCSS tones (or DTCS codes) though.
