[chirp_users] UV-82 bricked?
I have a Baofeng UV-82 that was programmed, I downloaded the codeplug, added a frequency then uploaded the new codeplug to the radio. When I went to turn the radio back on, there was only a faint display visible on the top line. It looks like a series of black rectangles. Doesn't go beyond that, no channel, no frequency, none of the keys respond. I tried taking the battery out and turning it back on... no help. Tried downloading front the radio... nothing. Is the radio bricked or is there something else that I can try ? tnx Mike VE7SML
Have you tried the information here: https://www.miklor.com/UV5R/
Good luck.

The Baofeng UV-82 doesn't use "codeplugs" as it is an analog radio, also CHIRP isn't for digital radios, just analog.
Michal are you using the incorrect terminology, or are you talking about a different model which IS digital?

The rather unhelpful term 'codeplug' originates from an EPROM based hardware key which AMTRAK train drivers inserted into a Motorola radio in the cab. This term pre-dates digital radios by decades. It is the source of much confusion, and I much prefer the term 'configuration file' which is much more descriptive and far less obfuscating.

Yep but getting them to change is like pulling hens teeth, or get the metric thing done. On the second one, my car is metric, my radios are metric, my appliances are metric, but go to the hardware store and buy metric hardware... They have it but it is just 3x more than SAE...
So getting rid of the term codeplug falls in that area...

Odd that you have to give them 10 inches before they take the mile in Metric. In Imperial you only have to give them an inch (2.54 mm).

Tom 25.4 mm = 2.54 cm = (aprox) 1 English inch This is also very close to 1 American inch. The main problem in the imperial system besides the very arbitrary unit sizes is the problem of every country using THEIR standard unit. As a Canuck I grew up knowing that precision measurements required specifying the standard.
Can we please drop this hijack and get back to the question.

The best thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from. I'm from London England and it is to me a source of eternal bafflement how many people, even the young, still use feet and inches to this day.

On the second one, my car is metric, my radios are metric, my appliances are metric, but go to the hardware store and buy metric hardware... They have it but it is just 3x more than SAE...
So getting rid of the term codeplug falls in that area...

This term pre-dates digital radios by decades. It is the source of much confusion, and I much prefer the term 'configuration file' which is much more descriptive and far less obfuscating.

Michal are you using the incorrect terminology, or are you talking about a different model which IS digital?
