[chirp_users] Adding a new frequency
How do I add a new frequency? I downloaded what was in my radio - my fumbling around - but I'd like to go ahead and put new frequencies in. I can't figure out how to do that. I'd appreciate some assistance.
Thanks, Mike WA5ZTE
Download what is in your radio, make changes, and then write it back using the same menu that you used to read the radio.
Thanks, Chance AD8CJ

More specifically, after you download, you will see CHIRP's "spreadsheet" populated with your current "memorys". You can now modify that spreadsheet to change the existing memories or fill in "memories" that are currently "empty". You may need to hit the "show empty memories" button to cause the "empty" lines to show up so you can fill one of them in. CHIRP cannot cause your radio to suddenly have additional memory capacity, so if your radio has only 20 memories, CHIRP will display that many only.
After you mess around with the "spreadsheet" display, you can then "upload to radio" to cause the to be put back into the radio.
Hint: After you download and before you make changes, save the image. After you change the image and before you upload, save to another file.

I'm now using my desktop and I see what you mean. All the memory channels were downloaded from the radio and I can make changes/add repeaters now. On my laptop, the only things downloaded were 2 repeaters I'd tried to add without Chirp.
I think I'm off and running, now. I don't know why my laptop wasn't populated like my desktop was.
Thanks to both of you.

I'm guessing that, on your laptop, you would have needed to press the "show empty memories" button at the top of the spreadsheet.

Or, like other spread-sheets, Chirp has a concept of 'tabs' and he's still on the original tab on his laptop and Chirp set up a second one when he d/l'd, whereas, on the desktop, it's on the first/only tab...

You're right, Benton. "Show Empty" showed the whole 'spreadsheet'. Thank you for that.

I just found out about the “Show Empty” tab too. I was wondering why I could not ADD any freqs to an existing list. All better now. Scott

I did, Chance. Now I want to add more repeater frequencies. How do I do that?

you will see what looks like a spreadsheet full of the existing frequencies in your rig. If there are any empty ones they will be at the bottom of that sheet. You would just enter whatever frequencies you want to program below the last one in the list.
You can use Repeaterbook.com to find stuff around you to add.
Am I missing something?

That's interesting. When I download from Radio on my laptop, I only get two entries...ones I was playing with before Chirp.
But now I've tried it on my desktop and all the memory channels are there. Wonder why.
